  1. OMG, I just posted this in the wrong thread.  I've been having a lot of trouble with getting my posts written cause I get kicked out and end up in other threads or in the websites of the ads that keep poping up.  Thank goodness is wasn't a thread related to R88.  Anyway now that my heart is starting to get back to normal, just something I found interesting.

i looked up Lee CHong Ho (the Baduk player Choi Teak is based on) in Wikipedia.  The excerpt I took below sounds like they are describing TK.  If the bolded part is where the writer got some of her inspiration for the show they certainly did an amazing job.  Our opponents think they're winning now.

"Stone Buddha" is one of Lee's many nicknames. It derives from the fact that he always keeps a straight face and never smiles or frowns during a match. The nickname reflects his playing style as well. His reading ability is among the best in the world. If he said "I'm going to win by 1.5 point", then he did so. It gave him a honorable nickname, "God of calculation." He does not attack much and never plays "wild Go". He often wins by making his opponents think they are winning, only to gradually defeat them in the later stages of the game. He rarely kills large groups or makes a single move that decides the match. His endgame skill is one of the strongest in history.

  2. So what's your opinion on how they will get together?  If TK went to see JH before he knows about DS's feelings, then he is planning to confess and wants to get JH's approval first so not to cause a rift in their friendship.  I can't see him going after he talks to DS because if that was me it I would feel extremely uneasy as if I'm backstabbing my friend....unless DS confessed first and he would go to JH before giving her an answer.  Will there be a parallel between SW & BR on how they start dating?  If so, which one is it?  The 1994 one where BR asks SW to get back together first or the 1988 one where SW confessed first? :crazy::crazy:

Guys, can someone explain to me about the chocolate thing? I watched that episode before but confused. Ok, it ended in JB jacket so what's the relation to Taek then? Haha. must be because I watched earlier episodes last year hahaha. Thanks :D

@Yesin LeeIt took me forever to find the original post.  Here is @packmule3's chocolate theory under the spoiler tag.  I only copied the part related to chocolate.  Later, in another post she theorized that it was still meant for TK but somehow it ended up with JB.

    Spoiler

    A chocolate theory…

There are many possible theories -- and conspiracy theories -- as to who the intended recipient of the chocolate was.  The adult DS could have given it to somebody else off-the-screen, and there’d be a flashback to explain it. She could have totally mis-remembered the chocolate and didn’t give it at all.

But if we simply consider the props found at the time, it’s simple.

Jinjjoo was surrounded by four items: 3 schoolbags and 1 coat jacket. There were four boys inside.

DS ignored the two schoolbags which were located right beside her but reached over Jinjjoo to where the schoolbag with the coat jacket on top, was placed on the floor.  People naturally assumed that she was placing something inside the schoolbag.

I think there’s a misdirection there.  DS was actually going for the coat jacket. She was putting the chocolate inside the coat jacket.

The three schoolbags belonged to the three high school boys. Only one kid didn’t have a school bag because he didn’t go to school.

TK however wore a jacket to his baduk school.  She thought that the coat jacket belonged to TK. She didn’t know that the coat jacket belonged to SW because the jacket was folded.

    *****************

Now, it’s possible that I’m wrong, and that we’re still missing a minor subplot to explain the chocolate mystery.  I’m fine with that.

However, script-wise, I thought there was an awful lot of emphasis on jackets. Didn’t you think so? THAT alerted me that things weren’t how they seemed.

That morning started with DS borrowing her sister’s jean jacket. Her mother warned her not to. Then, SW noticed that the jacket belonged to her sister -- we all know now that this was a clue that SW was interested in her sister. But wouldn’t it be funny, too, had DS confused HIS jacket as belonging to TK?

Afterwards, her sister came home early unexpectedly, and she began looking for her precious jean jacket. The mother then bothered the JH’s parents for the use of their phone and she called up the boys’ school. DR’s dad got involved and so did NoEul who was tasked to tell DS about their sister’s enraged hunt.  DS ran back home past JH’s brother who was playing at a videogame store. And his videogame momentarily transformed into a racing game with DS running furiously.

This whole mad 100-yard dash to return her sister’s jacket to its rightful owner was hilarious. But I thought that the scriptwriter had placed too many details in this jacket story MERELY to emphasize that their older sister was tyrannical.  Plus, if I were the director, I wouldn’t be able to justify the cost and time of moving people and equipment to several locations…to do what? To prove that DS was in big trouble? Nope.

I thought this Bora jacket subplot was a big flag to keep an eye on the jacket, instead of the schoolbags.

Additionally, at TK’s party, JH mentioned TK’s jacket. Remove it, he said, you look like an old man. That line was superfluous to the script – that is, unless the scriptwriter meant to have a wedding parody… lol.  For me, anytime the scriptwriter leaves such an insignificant line in, then she probably means it to be important. ~ Chekov’s gun.

Finally, when Bora tattled about the chocolate, I thought it was a fitting revenge for DS’ borrowing her jacket… and it could be an inside joke.  For borrowing Bora’s jacket without permission, she got bad karma, that is, the chocolate she mentioned in her diary didn’t reach the intended recipient.

[Possibly another inside joke: for borrowing TK’s pink sweater without permission, she gets good karma. Really! The girl’s got to stop borrowing things. NoEul was right when he called a thieving btich. lol]

So there you go. I’ve presented to you my chocolate theory. And it’s just one out of many theories out there regarding chocolates so nobody should bust a gut over this one.

    For Fun only :D

I'm starting look about chocolate theory by @packmule3 Somehow.. it's end up with JB.. If it's true.. Wow.. thumbs up packmule3!

Ignore the time of recording.. i bet it's show's flaw. it's production mistake, just like DS's password date of issued.

See Carefully the position of Jacket and the bag when DS put the chocoloate

    Pic deleted

and the posisiton of Jacket and the bag when the boys grab their belongings

    Pic deleted

The position has changed right? It's possible that there are two jackets on top of SW's bag, but DS didn't see them well since Jinjoo blocked her view. Since the topic in ep 2 is about switch jacket and ep. 18 about chocolate.. I feel it makes sense that how the chocolate somehow end up in JB's.

    this is from ep. 18

    Pic deleted

SOMEONE made confession to JB by giving him chocolate. I think it's DS's! I think they still talking about confession thing in the cafe.. WOW @packmule3 *applause*

If the whole "who got the chocolate" thing is correct then DS has liked TK since the beginning (her diary entry was about him) and she must have thought that he didn't like her other than a friend since he never replied/answered her chocolate confession.

It would make sense that even though she liked him she would never flirt with him or act cutesy cause she "knew" he didn't like her.  It would also explain why she would act like nothing happened the day after the kiss.  TK seemed to be sleep walking, I mean sleep kissing and she kissed him back.  How utterly embarrassing it would be to admit to have kissed a friend who you think is not into you that way and at the same time you think he was not even fully aware of what he was doing and then you have to face him. DS asked him if he had a dream as if she was trying to test the waters to see how he felt but his reaction strengthened her belief that she meant no more than a friend to him.

If this is true I can't wait for all the flashbacks!  and how on earth can @packmule3 see this before it's revealed to the viewers. Admit it, you're really Lee Woo Jung hiding in the Soompi forum. ROFL  That's mind blowing.  Now I'm really dying to know about the umbrella in the hair.

    Hello ladies,

Pardon my intrusion, but I don't where to post this. So this place will have to do.

    More chocolate theories (lol)

    Chocolates were intended for Taec.

But they somehow ended up with Jung Bong. That's how Jung Bong knew to write a confession to Mi-Ok using chocolates. :D

@packmule3  I used to read everything in the main thread but it's gotten just plain frustrating to read so to save my sanity I only go to look for your posts.  Love reading your insight but the only thing is I have to rewatch the episodes every time you post something new. LOL.

Thanks for making watching more fun.

Did you forget tk from 'life of irony: part II]? Did you see how cold and unflinching his face was? It was all angst to me ,compared to the zero action..all tension moments from jh-ds.

After reading the recaps again,I found this summary in my mind. All the older couples mostly JH parents with their mad antics, and quirks and beating/bashing have that something, which real life couples have in common.Even after how angry/irked ra mi ran was with sung dad,she still loves him and stays by his side when he misses his mom,or when he got into the accident.I even saw this scene last episode probably when we saw ra mi ran placing a pillow under his head...which parallels that scene of ds and tk..[when she tucks him in with pillow]..

All these couples have something in common,,that is they complete each other. And they 'communicate' well with each other, there is a good level of understanding between them,[like how sw mom came to the hospital ,and opened up the can for tk dad first thing, took him for washing his hair,]or[ how ds mom even after dad has been taking care of his own fish, not sharing any with her lol,he still loves her when she's facing some major chronic disease symptoms].This is the main concept of this show, and this we have seen only in DS-TK,all these scenes somehow have been replayed between them in numerous time in different ways.

-Also,if they say every picture gives the vibe that jh is the husband, then writer is trying to tell here maybe that 'don't judge a book by it's cover'..After all, that's how majority of the audience is perceiving the whole picture.

@nearsea we complete each other.  Hahaha:P Exactly my thoughts.

did anyone already mention that @packmule3 has put up a new post in the MT on the pink gloves vs pink mittens

  7. Sorry to rehash this but I'm behind on your discussions.  From my pov, it seems like the end of ep 18 was a tribute to JH.  This is not a nice analogy but kind of like when a person dies and you have pictures of their wonderful life that is displayed at the funeral so not to feel sad that they are gone.  (of course those closest to the person can't get over the passing that quickly but I digress) To me it represents that their love STORY is over.  They had the last few minutes showing flashbacks of his love for DS since the beginning and the ending credits showing pictures of his popular OTP scenes.  I've never seen this in a drama before and it looks really similar to the ending of the finale of most kdramas with their montage of cast and crew which is like a thank you and goodbye to those who worked on the production.  I think because of what happened in Reply 1994, (which I haven't watched) they wanted to say thank you to the audience for loving this arc and that JH loved DS, that it was not a crush or surging hormones but at the same time from his monologue they can let everyone know he's ready to move on.

    Again to quote dramabeans:

Jung-hwan wipes his tears and continues to narrate, quoting Forrest Gump: “‘Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.’ Even if I’ve picked the bitterest chocolate of them all, it can’t be helped. That’s the fate I chose. There’s no regretting it, crying about it, or being heartbroken about it.

I think they were hoping this would let us know in advance so we can accept that he's not the one for DS and they can show DS & TK getting together without getting a backlash. At first I was hoping that in EP 19 they'll show DS confessing her feelings to TK first before she knows how he has felt all the years because then everyone can accept that he was her choice but now I think it won't matter what they do.  Some people will not be happy with the ending no matter what which is sad.

I will be extremely red in the face if JH turns out to be the husband but even though I'll be disappointed I can accept it.  I am ready to enjoy the last two episodes which will show how they get together and even more I'm looking forward to the scenes showing them openly being able to display their love and being affectionate with each other (something more naughty than a pat on the butt) no matter which guy it is.

  8. After I read @packmule3's post about seeing a man in a suit, I rewatched ep 9.  Everytime DS was in the elevator with TK in his suit in China, she kept looking at him and I felt her looking at him like she was physically attracted to him.  The scene where they focus on her scratching her purse strap emphasized this to me.  People say they can't see her love for TK other than as a sister or mother to him so he can't be her husband.  Some people can only see things based on their personality and life experiences so if they know or meet a person like Taek, he would only be a friend to them but this is a drama based on a writer's imagination and her own experiences so we should all be open to the possibility of a different outcome than our own personal preference.

I definitely think PGM looks good in that suit in ep 18.  I can now understand why DS patted his butt.

I knew there was a reason why I was a silent reader.  Once I get started I can't stop.  Okay its 2:30 AM where I am so need to get some sleep.

  9. Hi Taekies

I generally prefer to be a silent reader than actively participate in the forum but I decided to learn something from JH and just say what I think before the drama is over and I lose my opportunity.  LOL.

First, I want to thank everyone that shared their thoughts, opinions, pictures, gifs, research, evidence, worries, frustrations, etc.  You guys made it possible for me to make it through the wait between episodes.  I've learned so much about the nuances of the writer and director that I don't think I can watch another drama the same way.  The reason I started this was because I was expecting to see more romance but I got so much more out of it with all the family members stories.  I didn't expect to be so invested in these characters lives.  I think this one would be worthy of me purchasing the Director's Cut to find out more about what was going on during filming.

After TK came into the running, my belief that he's the husband became stronger with each passing episode.  I am one of the ones that is confident that he's the endgame.  Going back to ep 17, which seems like ages ago now, I also don't think the kiss was a dream but real.  I think someone mentioned here before (sorry can't remember who) that the scene when DS's tossing and turning in bed at the 1:18 minute mark looks like she's reliving the kiss.  The whole time she has her eyes opened except when she goes upside down and pops back into the screen with her eyes closed as if she's imaging kissing TK again so I'm guessing this is supposed to be one of those subtle clues (or I could be delulu).  She then starts writing in her dairy about her worries about not having a dream so most would dismiss it that she can't sleep for this reason only.

Most of what I think has already been posted by others so I won't repeat and sorry for the long post that doesn't give any incite to the actual plot but I'm looking forward to sharing the excruciating wait and the last two episodes with you all.

  10. @QuynhT I tried using Google Translate on LOU's description but everyone knows that is bad at the best of times.  Thanks for subscribing to my channel.  It's always nice to hear feedback.  I was really upset :((  =(( but I think I'm starting to calm down.   :)
Edit:Then I guess that means my video has been taken and posted by others before LOU.  It's maddening but there is nothing I can do.
