Right - like if she was a queen who supported him and could be civilized with HS and really allow both of them to co-exist I'd totally be okay with her being queen and even be okay with the idea of them having kids after HS is gone!

Here and there we saw that especially when the situation called for it. Like when he choked JM asking for another way for HS out of marriage with the King. As nice as anyone is I think the monster will come out of them when all that nasty stuff is surfacing.
I think I know why/can guess why So is so overly MAD/upset/Disgusted that the man Soo once loved is Wook.
1. Main reason: Wook is the mastermind behind all the evilness and So just recently found that out.
2. Wook is the reason and again the mastermind behind his un-wanted/forced marriage to YH.
3. He never would of guess that of all the people out there it would be Wook. So that took him by surprise. Yes he was aware she had loved someone before and wasn't bother much by it but Wook prob never crossed his mind as a contender. Why because this is the guy that was married to her beloved cousin of all ppl!!! and when she asked So to forsake and not kill Wook, So prob thought of it as he's pretty much family to her. It never crossed So's mind that its b/c Wook was her LOVER and now discovering HOW SLY/EVIL Wook is and how Soo can even LOVE such a person is fueding jealousy and rage in So's heart to the point of disgust but ladies it won't last long since So is already so deeply in LOVE with Soo too. It was a just in the moment I am so effin MAD kind of thing or more like "I don't even want to believe it, and if I have too I rather not see you".
I totally agree. I think he's always been on the rougher side and HS brought out a side we didn't know he had. We're talking about a guy who killed his horse upon coming back into Songak just as an excuse not to return to Shinju and killed a temple full of (murderous) monks to hide the crimes his mother committed. He's not acting any different or being any more cruel than we was - but he is trying to be somewhat more considerate to HS compared to the previous him who didn't care about anyone. And the fact that he has been able to form a bromantic relationship with BA in the process and wants to provide rice to citizens who were hurt during construction shows he's evolved a little but at the end of the day, when he's pissed - he's still true to himself.

Funny, while watching this series I find a lot of similarities between the leads and equally as absurd endings. The male lead is and always has been a bit cruel and honestly, not very skilled in handling situations with grace (while the CITT lead does know how to fake appearances at least). The female lead ends up falling for the male lead trying to understand them but at the end of the day, can't, and it causes them to drift apart. I hated how CITT though, he just randomly left to self-reflect because I doubt that changed a thing but hey, even that had a better ending then SHR ....

BTS is really cute and very happy - I wish it could stay like this! I like how LJG reacts when he's messing up his lines and how cute he is when he laughs.. he's like a little kid. I can't really hear the sound because my son is watching some really loud Halloween cartoons right now before bed but I'll summarize the parts I can understand, which is basically off the subtitles/captions...
While HS is telling him the story (of red riding hood? Can't tell if it's the same because it's too soft but it's where he's laying down on her lap). He yawns and says "Boring/Not very interesting. Tell me a different story!" (with aegyo
) . Then she says something about being covered in blood and he's like "I'm scared!". It's cute when HS is looking at him then he wipes him lip.. he forgot his lines and is like "what was it (my lines)?!". When they're doing that scene where he has to write, he messes up his line and immediately says "don't talk, wait, I'll do it again" but tries to repeat the lines to himself and messes up again. Tries again then messes up and says to HS "Don't look at me alright?" (Is her gaze making you uncomfortable... hehehehe). Tries again, then says "ah why can't I get the lines right? I'm ruined/doomed".. Then the line where he says all he got is rice soup (pronounces rice wrong), he suddenly says "I want to eat rice soup... ahhhh I'm going crazy". In the scene with WS and BA, BA says "If I eat that, I'll die" and WS says "it's fine". WS starts looking for sauce and BA goes hyungnim! I can't really tell what's going in the scene with all 3 of them eating, but the caption says something about them keep laughing during filming?
Twas a beautifully tragic scene. And I loved his "revenge". Kill 'em with kindness - well with his mother anyway!

YEAH I'm guilty I know~ But I think it's more his vulnerable character and his steadfast love for HS that makes me side with him. He has suffered so much and has never been shown love so it's easier for me to forgive his shortcomings and understand that he doesn't know how to deal with situations. He was born in an age of death, where his father went to war to win the throne and you either married or killed to get rid of threats and he's always had to kill to just survive. I can't really hold it against him.
But for HS, she has adjusted in many ways I think to Goryeo (I thought she was going to give him grief about YH honestly) but I don't think she fully understands WS or tried to in the recent episodes. To understand that as king, he can't just let things slide because it's a sign of weakness. That at the end of the day, everything he does is so they can be together and this war between families can stop (which is a little naive on his part), even if it's not the best way to do it, the genuine intention is there. What happened to the HS who watched him throw the prayer stones and when he said "I killed someone" and replied "tell me why" rather than being scared? She just got mad at WS about CR but didn't try to understand why or where he was coming from but she was quick to excuse CR's betrayal "she was born a slave". In that sense, I have to agree with ruizaio. I think her predisposition to KG's history makes her loyalty and love for WS a little less appealing because she has always subconsciously feared him.
It's a little late in the game for WS to get mad at HS for her relationship with Wook but I can understand it too. She had promised herself, her heart, to another man, the same man who recommended he be exiled while WM was King, poisoned his brother, used CR to betray HS, co-erce him into marriage with YH and still threatens his command and seat as king. If it were anyone else, I don't think he'd be this upset (maybe BA). I don't think it's fair to compare this to his marriage with YH.

Not to mention, the more kids you have, the more ability you have to form political alliances through arranged marriages. Interesting thing where marriage and children aren't for love but for politics and power!

Thank you to all the recappers! I got into work later than usual and couldn't stream it til the final minutes and without sound (couldn't find my headphones). Looks like a sad ending is in store for Goryeo couple. BLAH. I should have stopped watching once I found out how the Chinese one ended but I COULDN'T! I don't really like Jung but I guess he's what HS needs. Someone who is constant and consistent and doesn't want the throne. He's always been (inconveniently) there for her but isn't really pushy in his affection for her - he offered her an out but it's not like he's going around badmouthing WS to get her to marry him... he's just waiting for her to decide on her own so I GUESSSSSSSS I can't really hate the guy.
I feel like my life has been shortened by this drama.... LJG owes everyone hugs at the mini fan meeting.

I may have mentioned this in my much earlier posts. Even if HS marries or stays with WS - it will not get any better. Firstly, she is his Achilles' heel - she will be used to weaken him constantly. Secondly, HS is torn between her love for WS and loyalty/friendship to the other princes/CR/WH. There aren't that many left for her to protect. Her loyalty to these people challenges WS's authority. Thirdly, HS's health is also a huge barrier. Would she be able to survive the whole pregnancy given that Yeonhwa is queen? Will the child be able to survive infancy? Lady Oh is a walking example. Even Wang Geon (given his power) couldn't protect her. Lady Oh became a sacrificial lamb - HS would be the same had she stayed on. YH would stop at nothing to break them up and destroy their relationship.
Every step is like a trap for WS and HS. In my opinion, leaving WS is the right thing to do. We can call it self preservation, avoidance..but ultimately, it allows HS to preserve her memory of their love. Love changes over time - and no one can guarantee WS and HS will not hate or resent each other had she stayed on. In BBJX, RX felt that by leaving - she could start loving 4th Prince without any fear or barriers. That was one of her comforting moments - though it made her miss 4th Prince even more - eventually leading to her demise.
I have no issues with the looming tragedy - that's how the story is supposed to be. The only difference is how they will deal with the present day - would HS be back in modern times? Would Wang So appear in the modern day with memory fully intact? Would he have left some clues in history to let Hajin know that she really existed 1000 years ago?
On a separate note, I think Prince Yo did a great job last night. He stepped up in his final scene - and felt sad for his predicament (not easy to feel sad for a vilian!). I just wish we had more episodes to develop the side characters. Scarlet Heart Ryeo could have really been a domestic success if given more time with better editing.
True but someone can just knock the Hwangbo siblings off a cliff and that'll solve it right?
She should have realized her own heart sooner and left the palace with WS. I can't deal with tragedy - even that cancer drama UEE was in left on a happyish open ending! Is it weird that I don't care if HS has a happy ending but that WS does? I mean she wakes up from a coma and goes back to her normal life with the chance of meeting reincarnated WS but Goryeo WS will have to live the remainder of his days lonely. Poor guy - someone send me back to Goryeo to keep him company! UGH I thought I could accept this drama was aiming for "behind every great man was a great woman" theme but now I can't as we near the end lol. I just want a happy ending for WS! BLAH!

I finally got to watch both the international and SBS version and I'm amazed at how different they are! I won't talk about editing cause I know nothing about it and half the time, I'm drooling when LJG is on screen.
A few of things:
Remember that picture Ha Na posted on her IG and everyone was wondering who the girl to her right (our left) was? Well guess it wasn't relevant because she wasn't really 'featured' - she just stood in the back during the coronation so I suppose she was a princess that wasn't relevant to the story line, maybe Won's wife.
I think it's incredibly naive of WS to think he can just marry HS and make her queen. WW made a good point. He needs political alliances and right now has none. It may not be historically accurate, but he was also supposed to be married to YH before he ascended the throne and wasn't a "dog wolf" with a "hideous" scar that made people hate him either. Throughout the entire series, he's just been a loner with a select few who understand and support him so I guess it makes sense. However, his sudden rage to kill off anyone who opposes him was random and felt very rushed and even JM didn't see it coming.
It looks like the mask scene or the backhug scene with the lit lanterns (festival?) is coming up tomorrow - or I hope. In the preview, where WS hugs HS and says she's his only queen, they look to be wearing the same outfit so perhaps this will be our last happy scene before HS marries Jung and leaves the palace. I feel like her death and returning to present time would take the entire final episode and ep 19 is likely to be their time separated prior to her death so ep 18 will probably end with her asking Jung for a way out of the palace, by marriage.
Also looks like CR death was not something WS ordered. I feel as if someone set him up since he seemed to say "I look like a monster to her now. I won't let him get away with this" or something along those lines. Possibly WW or whoever was peeping on CR and Won's conversation. IDK but they should have developed CR character a little more to explain how she could suddenly betray HS so easily for a snake like Won. Really makes no sense.
I honestly think the whole thing can be avoided if HS just marries WS. She may not be queen or a royal consort by title but at least she can spend her remaining days by his side. YH wants prestige and honor and she can be queen all she wants but HS will have his heart and that should be enough. I don't see why they both can't get what they want. It's a different era where polygamy is totally normal and I think HS should understand that. It's not like he's going around impregnating every court lady or something. By wanting to keep him to herself, she's blocking his path as king - YH understands this and doesn't mind HS being the king's woman. I guess I might sound weird, but I think it's a fair deal? I mean it's not like HS wants power or her son to be the crown prince so why should any of that matter if she gets to be with him? I think as long as YH can become queen and raise a crown prince, she'd likely accept WS marrying HS. WW obviously wouldn't and will hold that BS scar excuse over his head but there's not a lot he can do about it especially once YH becomes queen. To betray the king out of pure jealousy would put both his sister and mother in danger.
Also - the picture of her in the blue wedding dress. Beautiful but someone get her a cheesecake or something. The fact that I can still see the gap between her waist and arms in a dress with such baggy sleeves concerns me lol.
Side note - I find it intriguing that King Gwangjong had only 2 wives, one of which he never produced an heir with. Maybe I'm being a romantic, but how much he must have loved his Queen to only have her by his side and how nice it would have been if this was an epic love story between WS and YH (with YH being IU of course!). I want a re-do!

I assume this might have been posted already as this was from 3 weeks ago but thought it was funny! Stumbled upon it on tumblr. JH posted it on his IG "what is this" and LG replied "can you feel my love? i love you guys so much" and JH replied "yes it feels very cozy" (rough translation). Good to know they do see the fan art and are even amused by the funny ones!

I think the photo of SD is from after HS wakes up and looks up each person to see what has changed in history (if it goes similar to the Chinese version).

I'm positive those are SD and Eun's graves. They don't look anything like the prayer rocks for the babies. I just watched this scene at total awe of LJG performance again - the angst her has but when she says she understands how he must feel after killing, how miserable he must be, this is totally when he fell for her!
She also looks like she might be pregnant in that praying photo? The width of her dress seems awfully wide and they did a good job at hiding her actual stomach with angles so not sure if it's that or the dress itself heh.

I feel the same way about what Yeon Hwa's wearing! Even in the preview she caught my eye. It definitely is my favourite costume in the drama. I absolutely hate YH but KHN is looks AMAZING especially in this!
We don't have a lot of choices of women in this drama lol. The only other women in the show are HS, CR, QY, and WS second wife which I doubt has grown that much in the time jump.

This could be the early shots, LJK is not as skinny as today. I remember his fighting scene with the monks in ep 3, he looks way skinnier than this.
Hmm.. why do I feel he looks cuter here with slight - only slight - chubby cheeks.
Being skinny is good to show his cheekbones and all, but hopefully not too skinny otherwise he will look gaunt.
That's it - I'm quitting my day job and becoming a wardrobe assistant. I can't imagine how his staff can be around him all day and not drool.

This book, The Annals of the Goryeo Dynasty, is the only source I've been able to find info about their marriage but seems to suggest they married in 937, when WS was 12. If that's the case, it's already different from history so maybe they'll go in a different direction for the ending - similar to Moon Lovers!

Probably a childhood crush between them. She's probably been the only female around his age growing up and she was probably nice to him considering how everyone else avoided him at the beginning of his return. But the difference between her and HS is YH never once tried to understand WS - she simply wanted to tame him. I don't doubt that she likes WS but not in the same way HS does - she sees his potential and I think she's interested in who he can become not who he genuinely is. HS sees through that and that's why WS has a deeper affection for her.

Incredulity/Denial at what he's done
Disgust at himself
Rapid descent into mania
Deathly Rage
Then, another scene 5 minutes later:

Really, that's more range of emotions than most actors are capable of portraying in THEIR LIFETIME.

Perfect description. I thought this scene was the pinnacle of his acting thus far in the series and perhaps in his career. The range of emotions he goes through in such a sort span and the expressions his eyes had.. extremely rare. I'm not trying to downplay other Korean actors/actresses talent, but I feel many of them were casted based upon looks so talent is usually lacking initially and take time to develop - while some never develop unfortunately. I've never felt that way with LJG - he has always put so much raw emotion into his characters that I forget he is also a pretty face and this scene just proves that he is so much more than the flower boy name bestowed upon him. I've never been into dramas as much as this one and it's really because his acting here just somehow goes beyond the screen and pulls me in and there's no way I can leave feeling unaffected. He is truly a talented actor and as much as I look forward to getting my life back after SHR ends, a small piece of me will be missing due to his absence.

It's cute when HS is looking at him then he wipes him lip.. he forgot his lines and is like "what was it (my lines)?!". When they're doing that scene where he has to write, he messes up his line and immediately says "don't talk, wait, I'll do it again" but tries to repeat the lines to himself and messes up again. Tries again then messes up and says to HS "Don't look at me alright?" (Is her gaze making you uncomfortable... hehehehe). Tries again, then says "ah why can't I get the lines right? I'm ruined/doomed".. Then the line where he says all he got is rice soup (pronounces rice wrong), he suddenly says "I want to eat rice soup... ahhhh I'm going crazy". In the scene with WS and BA, BA says "If I eat that, I'll die" and WS says "it's fine". WS starts looking for sauce and BA goes hyungnim! I can't really tell what's going in the scene with all 3 of them eating, but the caption says something about them keep laughing during filming?
