His recent works may not have high ratings but at least they are decent. They fetch high price n audience overseas so we know Intl demand for LJG is always there. He is one of those rare artists who do not use his looks to his advantage. He is always choosing the 'alternative' type of dramas. He is well rounded *seriously his stage presence, singing, dance moves can put many boy bands to shame*. He performs his own stunts *he's so sexy when he is fighting. Have you seen how flexible he is? WOW* and he loves his fans. He has a heart of gold as from the many charitable acts he has done *there's one where he delivered coal to the needy during winter with his fans (so envious of his SK fans)*.
I just hope he can quickly find someone to share his everyday with.
Sorry for the rant. Just needed to get it out of my system.
Oh I totally get it! Consider me "old school" but LJG has always done well in what he does despite some of his works being flops and I love that he makes an effort to be on screen once a year so that his fans can see him. I'm in my 30's too so I don't see how he's past his prime as he's aged so well and has gotten only better both acting and looks. I also get upset when people say the same thing about my favorite music group (Beast). Just because these new guys come out doesn't make them stale ... It's also always bothered me how seemingly unpopular they are compared to their newer counterparts. LJG has a little over a million followers and has been in the business over a decade now but you see these newbie boy bands that debut a year ago with 2-3 million followers and I don't get it. Where is the loyalty in the kpop fandom?! They just keep hopping from one entertainer to the next. That's not to say I don't like Park Bo Gum and the popularity of Reply 1988 members but my heart still belongs to LJG/Beast as my first loves in acting/music.

Has anyone here become curious of the film Empire of Lust after this drama? I checked it out because both Kang Ha Neul and Kang Hanna (Yeon Hwa) are in it. It's very mature though, and KHN plays a very different role as a cruel serial rapist
Yes (but I saw it before the drama)! It's a sad/dark film but the acting is just superb by Shin Ha Kyun. KHN role is definitely different than what you'd expect him to play but I think it's great he's willing to try out different roles. And holy so (cow), did not realize that was YH in that movie..

I dont understand why rate for this drama is low in Korea....its a.very good.drama ...and excellent actor LJG
I agree but Park Bo Gum is the new "it" boy right now so people are just riding the popularity wave. I also feel that with this simultaneous cast across other networks that this show wasn't aiming for the domestic audience but towards international to begin with.

Also I'm sure many of you know that the Chinese translation for Hae Soo is Hae Tree (I don't know the Korean, but I think it's very similar)). At the time of the Patpat story I thought, what a clever pun, this lonely prince burned one tree, but found a living human tree to mend his heart.
I have no idea if there's a hidden meaning behind trees but Hae Soo (해수/海水) means seawater in Korean and tree is namoo.

Are you Korean? How do you know that expression? It's my first time to see it in English and I got a kick out of that!
Haha, no I'm Vietnamese but my son's father's side of the family is Korean so I used to hear it all the time and it's how I learned the basic Korean that I do know.
2 hours ago, ruizaio said:The post says: "Your Highness, don't get lost on your way to the future. Even if foxtails (Korean for this is puppy grass) are pretty and the breeze is nice, don't get distracted (Korean expression for being distracted is to "sell one eye") so that we can surely meet again in the future"
Baekhyun replied with "Soon Deok..." and LJG said "Well done, Soon Deok, you worked. hard. Hope you two meet again in a modern drama."
Ah thank you! As I just mentioned in another reply to you, I know limited Korean and have never heard of those two terms. Just learned something new now!!

What is IU's waist size.. incredibly thin
I used to be 86lbs/39kg 5'1"/155cm before my son was born and my sister is 5'8"/172cm and 99lbs and while we both were thin, IU looks even skinnier than we did. Media reports she's about 5'4"/162cm and 99lbs/44-45kg but she doesn't have a lot of muscle or fat so I think she's probably more like 90lbs/40kg . She had mentioned she did an extreme diet on a variety show (happy together?) that for 4 days she did 1 hour cardio a day and ate nothing but 2 sweet potatoes, an apple, and a protein shake a day to lose 3-4kg/8lbs.
We Asians really do place an importance on being thin but even my friends and I agree that she is too thin in this drama. While her dresses look very pretty on her, I think if she were to wear fitted clothes, it would not look as good. I hope she gained weight after the drama!

Lady Bear IG post and both LJG and Baekhyun replied to it. Anyone knows what they said?
My google translate was only able to translate LJG reply- he said, "Well Done, you have worked hard and meet again "
I was so devastated to see them die
UGHH I hate it when people don't punctuate between and do run on sentences LOL. Sorry grammar nazi.
I'm not really sure but it sounds like she's saying "Prince must not get lost on his road to the future. Something about a dog being pretty and the wind being nice (what the heck is 풀?). Don't steal a glance. In the future, we must definitely meet." At first I thought this was referring to Wang So then I thought maybe it's about Eun but the dog part totally throws me off lol... I'm almost certain I translated the glance part wrong ...but the literal translation is don't sell one eye?!

you have forgotten WS jealous (due to WW/HS previous relationship), HS's maid (the "steam" scene and HS discover she is pregnant)... then miscarriage and HS' death.... WS/HS conversation where she reverts her true name and confessed she is not HS etc... WS regrets he didn't get a chance to see her last... etc etc... i wonder how they put all these scene in 4 episodes....
6 minutes ago, ShinRaeMi said:I can only think of one reason why he have to marry YH later - he needs an heir inorder to install a CROWN PRINCE.
If HS will get pregnant, I'm sure she's going to lose her child. WM's daughter is too young. So, he will be forced to marry YH in the end.
We're all wrong. YH is gonna die and HS will live on using YH identity. The next 4 episodes is WS killing everyone off to keeping this secret. I hope.
History says WS and YH have 5 children, and the first one became WS successor so WTF did they make more, all princesses at that (one prince died young I think). I know you gotta make backups just in case but history seems to make it like he loved YH as she's the only person of reasonable age he married and had children with in an age with more than a handful of wives and children all over the place (just look at his dad and all his ladies lol). I would much prefer it if this YH historically was actually HS and that would complete their love story totally!

I know but they talk that they give us two episode today episDe 16+17 because we all know what happen yestarday..... and now what again bad news ...
I think this was more speculation than anything. Sports has delayed dramas more than once and they've always pushed it back and never aired episodes back to back to compensate for it plus SBS website always had the drama as TBD pending the game (hence no notice to fans) and never had 16 & 17 scheduled for Tuesday. Probably more hopeful fans than anything official!
4 minutes ago, roneddski said:I wonder why Jung chooses to blame So for killing Eun.. When he arrived at the scene, he should have seen So protecting Eun from the soldiers, right? And when Eun was struck by Yo's arrow, So went down and held him in his arms.. The level of concern So showed is so genuine.. wouldn't it occur to Jung that So took the decision to kill Eun against his will? Or that Eun might had requested him to?
When So was laughing hysterically with tears in his eyes after killing Eun.. that scene was so moving! I literally feel all the agony he is suffering inside, and the hurt written across his face.. I just want to applause LJK for that brilliant acting. Makes mi cry with him.
I think the one thing that Yo did right was to shoot the arrow that So blocked for Soo. It reignited their love which So had suppressed in his quest to become king and helped Soo reaffirm that So did not change after all. When Soo asked So if he still love her.. I'm glad he replied with the best answer - a kiss! That's like more powerful than saying 10 times I Love You.
My take on Jung is that he's very black and white and there is no gray area for him. He's always been on the battle forefront so isn't heavily involved in the politics of the throne nor does he care about it and to him, whether So was conflicted about it or Eun requested it makes no difference to him. I'm guessing his mindset is no matter what, you shouldn't kill your brother/family, even if it was a mercy killing. Twice in the drama, he's shown his contempt for killing family when his mother asked So to kill Wang Mu and So stabbed Yo. When he discovered Yo was alive he was visibly upset refusing to commit treason against one brother but wasn't going to tattle on Yo being alive either.
1 minute ago, yuhotarubi said:I'm mad, they should've added the hug after the kiss.
I prefer this version actually as it's more clear that they consummated. I felt the international version was a bit awkward in their transition from passionate kiss to sweet hug then lights out... Perhaps the hug should have came first before both kisses then lights out but a hug to lights out just doesn't sound right to me.
UGH, I wish I could have watched it live but had other obligations. Can't wait til next Monday! 월요일 기다:려

LOL does LJG think she's watching the leaked episode? I had assumed it was a screen capture of their filming camera....

I think LJG translation was meant to be "are you really going to watch it" (future tense vs present) because her original post is asking if we're going to watch it tonight at 10pm.

Thoughts after watching ep 16
I can definitely see what people are talking about with the change is WS. But it can't be helped honestly. He needs to change. He needs to become a little more of his old self. Cold hearted and uncaring or people will continue to use him.
This episode was amazing. And as much as I cried...I also laughed way too hard when WY threw the cup at WS. It reminded me so much of a little kid throwing a tantrum.
SpoilerAfter all WS has gone through, I'm just glad he's not a raging lunatic at this point. I think he's found purpose which is important. Prior to HS, his purpose was just survival and trying to gain his mother's affection which was effort wasted. Then he found HS and went all in and that allowed her to be used to control him. I kind of like the fact that WS has a purpose of his own now, to be a king that brings change. As mentioned by King Taejo, sometimes to be a good king, you have to throw away what's important to you, including love because your people and your country are more important. From what history has told us, King Gwangjong played an important role in history by creating the national civil service exam to place people of merit in court rather than ranking/power and freed slaves. Of course, I'd love him to be a good king and live happily ever with HS but I can understand it if he chooses the power to change people's lives for the better over his own personal feelings.
At this point, I take the direction they're going with is that HS is the direct cause of WS rise to the throne and him becoming the King people know him to be today, the one who fought for the common people but was also cruel by destroying all powerful clans and nobles who opposed his path. That behind every great man is a great woman and this drama is the story of their tragic yet beautiful love that inspired King Gwangjong.
I don't know why I can't just watch this drama at face value like I do other dramas and have to think so deeply on it!

Ok so I couldn't help myself and just watched the leak.
SpoilerCan I just say that LJG acting during the beginning was AMAZING. His eyes said so much. The hurt, the pain, the conflict of killing our beloved Eun (who also did an amazing job). This is truly a defining drama in his acting character and I feel like this role was made for him and no one but him. He absolutely deserves an award for this.

Heh, sadly, I can't take credit for that ^ ^. Because So's name is also a verb ending commonly heard in Sageuk, there are all sorts of plays on his name floating around the Korean forums. Some of my personal favorite punny So hashtags include #말랑 카우 #수바라기 #하찮소 and #소든어택 XD A lot of them appear in that video SBS posted not long ago with all the hashtags about So's various 'charms' - it's clear whoever is in charge of making the videos is very in touch with what's trending in the fandom (vampire So, the rain ceremony parody, etc.) . I enjoy them X)
There's also, 월요일 기다:려

As you can see all the princes are basically wearing the same design (and unlike Eun, THEY ARE NOT GETTING MARRIED) that is copying the myeonbok - the costume department obviously took some creative licence and applied the myeonbok design as the design of the official robe FOR BOTH THE PRINCES AND THE KING.
Eun's robe is slightly different though. If you look closely all the other princes have the same color dragons, gold with red and the dragons go down the sleeve. Eun's is different that it's only on the shoulder and also has hues of blue and pink in the dragon emblem. I think what's interesting here is he's lacking the headdress (maybe he took it off cause I remember King Taejo wearing it in the first episode for his other wedding Queen Yoo opposed to) and how the princess didn't have a headdress either compared to the Joseon era wedding. The spoiler pic of YH was the same way that she had a similar blue dress with her hair done but no headdress.

Ok… let's compare his and Eun's outfit. Seems that he is marrying (you know whom) there. Not Hae Soo.
I put the last pic only because is a similar crown of a wedding.
The one with Hae Soo is photoshopped. Is a bts pic of IU and Jo Min Ki.
I'm for sure he'll be getting married to YH but I don't think so in that preview - I think someone had mentioned the Chinese subs said it was Yo's dream of WS being coronated as King which we'll probably see soon. The meyongbok and myeonryugwan is a ceromonial outfit that can be worn for both weddings and coronation. One difference though is in weddings, both the bride and groom hold up a jade pointed stick thing called a gyu.
Maybe when the wedding does occur, the wedding night doesn't and he'll also abandon YH to be with HS similar to Ok Jung.
I feel like with only 5 episodes to go they have a lot to squeeze in with Yo's death, WS ascension to the thrown, his wedding, HS wedding to the 14th and eventual death and then HS back to present. If that's how it's headed...

There's a limit in showing bed scene on korean tv and especially historical dramas. Even if they have consummate it will be shown indirectly. Soo has her hair down and in her inner clothes and sleeping together that could be an indirect hint that they have consummated. But you could be right about them not 'doing it' as So respected her.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say they didn't just because they were making duck/swan shadows. That to me equals a very innocent night. Which I think makes it that much sweeter that their love is so pure.
But she's in her inner clothes and her hair is completely down so she's apparently very comfortable with him so I don't know!

A successful revolt is not a revolt - Yo said. I guess this bites back at him.
It's ironic because Wang Mu became very paranoid everyone was going after him/the throne but then Yo becomes paranoid So or Jung is going to take the throne from him and you can see from the preview it's taking a physical toll on him.
