But Lee Gon's cool demeanor amidst that tense encounter was arresting. Even in the scene with the resto owner, we see his anger through his clenched fist, and yet he has ultimate restrain. His eyes, however, says it all - they perfectly convey the complex and emotional depth of character as he shifts emotion from chaos to anxiety to heavy responsibility. Add to that his compelling voice - "It seems like I am your king."

I applaud Lee Min Ho for his subtle yet powerful acting. His screen time may be out of his hands, but he delivers an emotional performance with such captivating presence as if owning the entire stage.

You can say that again! You described his acting perfectly!

Not only his eyes.  His voice.  That velvety & regally modulated voice  that became hoarse & gruff when the traitor started talking about his father. Restraint & controlled but filled with venom. And that was physically shown when he was gripping that 2G phone... I almost thought he would break it!

I also admired the King when he emphasized that what they did was murder and he opted for the traitor to kill himself - instead of ordering JY to do it for him.  That juxtaposition underscores their difference.

Maybe the stars will take away your sorrow
Maybe the flowers will fill your atrium with beauty
Or maybe hopes will dry your tears forever
But the most important thing is

    Silence will make you stronger.

I think he exactly knows what his fans thinking about the drama. So he post this.

And this is very LMH - silent but strong.  How a warm and thoughtful person we love.

That is very thoughtful of him.

Did someone ask if lmh ever did a bed scene? This is the closest thing to a bed scene he’s done. Watch out for his tongue

He did one for Gangnam Blues, I dunno if you guys watched that. LMH was extremely good in that.  LMH  had a sex scene with Kim Ji Su.  However, the scene was removed by the Director and not shown in the film. Rae Won had one and it was shown.

    A little help here ...

After JTE says - "I love you" - as she opens the car door, LG says something that Netflix subs translates as -"ditto"

As I'm learning Korean (albeit slowly) I thought he said "me too" - but its definitely not "ditto"  ...... the King wouldn't say ditto.

    Or did he?

It reminded me of the scene in Ghost, when Patrick Swayze always replied "Ditto" instead of I Love You to Demi Moore. But in the end, Demi was the one to say Ditto when Patrick was finally leaving for the ever-after.

I hope this is not a foreboding...

However, I hope the PD and writer or whoever involve in the storytelling realized that Lee Min Ho fans are the one keeping this drama afloat. I hope this is the last that we will get shin Jae back story taking up a lot of screen time.

I wrote this two days ago on another site and I think it is relevant re the feedback above --

Hmmmm perhaps still too early to say but I sense a pattern here in terms of distributing the actor-character highlights when writing scripts —

    • 1st – they built-up SJ. They made sure we know about his back story and the script made sure that the actor is showcased. He is, as the producers say, the secret weapon.
    • Now – it is JY. I think epis 7-8 will be his, building up with SJ.
    • Next – it will be KGE’s time to shine, what with Luna being introduced. KGE will probably reign in epis 9-10, both as TE & Luna
    • Next-next – Then it will be the actor playing LR to shine. LR has to show his diabolical genius for epis 11-12
    • Then – for epis 13-14 will be LMH time to blaze the screen; It is the King’s turn to show his stuff
    • Epis 15-16 will be the assemblage of all the main characters, minus some probable casualties; Of course it will end with our OTP

Let us see how this goes…

It cannot always be about LG/LMH esp with this grand set-up.  Just like in chess, all of the impt pieces - queen, rook, knight, bishop - all work around the King and the entire game revolves around checking the opponent's king.

But you have to admit, that confrontation scene of LG with LR's bodyguard - that was some intense acting. I really like LMH in intense but very controlled emotional scenes - that's where he shines

    Hope this helps.

  6. HOW DO YOU SOLVE A PROBLEM LIKE JY?

    Mystery #1

I found a couple of  March 2020 articles and they seem to point out more twists in this series --

From the entertainment section of IBT

    Quote

The King: Eternal Monarch spoilers: Lee Min Ho may have to pay for his trust in Woo Do Hwan

    ....

In the historical fantasy thriller, the young actor of Mad Dog fame will be appearing in two roles – as the emperor's bodyguard Jo Young and as a public service worker named Jo Eun Seob. Till now, Korean drama lovers were under the impression that his character would be playing a protagonist in the mini-series. But the production team recently teased about his appearance as the main antagonist in the story (underscoring mine).

    ...

    (https://www.ibtimes.sg/king-eternal-monarch-spoilers-lee-min-ho-may-have-pay-his-trust-woo-do-hwan-41318?utm_source=Internal&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=related)

    Quote

Lee Min Ho-Kim Go Eun starrer K-drama 'The King: Eternal Monarch' reveals 5 sub-plots

A mystery behind Woo Do Hwan

Just like Kim Go Eun, Woo Do Hwan also has two roles to play in the drama – as the emperor's bodyguard Jo Young and as the public service worker Jo Eun Seob. The character may have a lot to tell the emperor about the conspiracy behind his father's death. The viewers will get to know about it as the story unfolds.

    Has this been highlighted before?

    Mystery #2

In Epi 1, what does this exchange mean during the Mourning Ritual?

Young JY: Hey, eat this! I’ll give it to you.
    Young LG: Put that away!
Male Figure: He is not moving an inch.
    Ok Nam: Right
Male Figure: He should not talk like that to the King
Ok Nam: It’s all part of a plan. Just wait and see.

    HMMMMMMMM….

    .

Is this why JY has not told the King that LR was spotted during the rowing game? I cannot believe that he did not know LR’s face. In other forums the reply I got was that JY may be too young to remember the face of LR that’s why he may have missed the picture of LR in the race track. He is the King’s premiere guard. He grew up in the Palace. He knows the royal family. Hmmmmm....

Quarantine got people so bored they are complaining about the historical inaccuracies of a warship in an alternate dimension in a fantasy drama with time travel and a magic flute.

@mychoiyoung , @Heretorant and anyone else who thinks LG saved baby LG: how do you explain the shooting skills?

Some of us believe the “bad shooting” scene was deliberately placed there to confuse us.

We still have 10 more episodes to prove to us Lee Gon is a good shooter. Maybe it’ll come around.

When LG & TE were talking about mini Minomi dolls and LG said, "I knew it! Everyone in your country is a swindler!" , I took that to mean that the shooting game was rigged. So he could be a good shooter after all.

But then again, as I have mentioned in my previous post, there could be more than 1 saviour, so it seems.

@Vincentia Vocalia  This gives me something to think about until the next episode.

That is a really interesting piece of information: there were two different shoes shown when the savior came to young LG!

    I don't think it is a goof.

That means two different people OR two different times.

One thing I am sure of: the actor in black is LMH.

Of course, the show can make the story whatever they want it to be.  :D

I think there are 2 different people

    Definitely two different shoes -

    A - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1z1yORfxb3y8Fk7nN0T2OHpB3d3A1gFsF/view

    B - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NLPaJDgZfUzKhP7440dlIN1vPRUWns7i/view

And what has been bothering me with this scene is the LULL in the entry of the "saviour/s".  Take note that all timestamps I will indicate are based on the Netflix version

    1. At counter 9.29 - "A" enters the hallway, takes a gun from one of the killed guards then the next thing we see is LR strangling young LG,

    2. Then at 10. 46  - a loud bang like a gun, then glass dome above shatters, prompting the traitor-guards to aim at the dome ceiling.

    3. At 11:05 - masked saviour - could be "A" or "B" enters the room and more firefighting ensues

    4. At 12:20. - "B" enters or re-enters the room firing away at the remaining traitors. He reaches young LG to check his pulse and this is where young LG got the ID.

Based on the figure & silhouette, one is definitely male, bearing LMH's City Hunter look,  which makes the popular guess for the saviour to be the adult LG.

IF the two different set of shoes is not a wardrobe goof, is it possible that "A" created a diversion by shattering the glass dome so that "B" could have a better chance of fighting the rest of the guards? Otherwise I cannot understand why it would take "A" that long to start fighting off the guards if it was just him.

Could the pair be LG & JY? LG & TE? LG & SJ? SJ & JY? JY & TE? Hmmmmmmmm.....

The producers did say he will be a "secret weapon".  Am also thinking that the Four Tiger Sword will be crucial in defeating the diabolical plan of LR - the devil.  Just like in a chess game, you have the King - LG, Queen - TE, Bishop or Knight - JY or SJ -- the Four Tigers of the Sword?  Once they are in place, as in the King is ready to wield the sword, LR is checked-mate.

I like your analogy. But there is the rook in a chess game which means we should add someone else too. Then we have the Prime Minister. Where is she? Does she belong to LG's team or will she become LR's queen due to her ambition? There is nothing sure about her. Sure, she has revealed different flaws but coincidently qualities as well (see her behavior during the conflict with Japan).

Thus we have to assume that Lee Rim has his own rook, bishop, knight and queen as well.

For me, Noh Ok Nam is the rook. I reserved the chess analogy for LG's team only as he is the owner of the Four Tiger Sword, in addition to the half-flute.  Lee Rim only has the other half of the flute but his advantage over the King is that he has 25 years to put his diabolical plan into action.

I can understand why we were all confused about Shin Jae but it was a deliberate move from the writer and director. We were shown Shin Jae the cop visiting his old neighborhood. It only became clear while listening to the conversation with the psychiatrist. I do think that Shin Jae will play a huge part, as I am wondering if there is a doppelganger of Shin Jae. So far, we didn't see him and this could be a clue that Shin Jae from Rep. Korea who was supposed to replace Shin Jae from Mon. Corea could have died back then.

I wonder what does he get by targetting the prince.

Also a super wild theory: we havent seen the face of the dead person in the car, have we? What if it is the lookalike of the doctor uncle/prince and then JTE actually sees the prince?

Or a possible scenario she sees lookalike of a dead person in Corea?

I’ve marveled at the possibility before. Wouldn’t it be epic if we found out Prince Jong In had already been killed and the one we’ve been seeing is his replacement? I would get the chills! But all this is quickly debunked because they already showed the photo of the murdered victim and he’s not the same guy. I believe you can see his photo at the beginning of episode 4 when JTE was pondering why each evidence conveniently leads to the next as though it was planted.

What does he get by targeting the prince? I assume it’s because he is one of the king’s most trusted ally? The king sees him as a father and while he does suspect him, I believe ultimately, he trusts prince Jong In. Getting rid of an ally would weaken the king so he is inevitably, one of Lim’s target. It seems the point here is to plot something Gon would never see from a mile away. But, we know the king is smart and he’s already catching up.

Not only is the Prince an ally. More importantly, he is heir presumptive - next in-line to LG.

I don't think LG has shown the tag to many people other than Lady Noh and GY.

    Hmmm....

:D  Good question.  We'll have to wait and see.  LG followed the rabbit, not knowing it was a JTE lookalike.  Both he and LR have done a lot of research in the last 25 years.

Because LR was present during the rowing event when LG followed the "time rabbit" or who we presume as Luna. Since the character description stated that Luna is connected with LR, and Luna looks like JTE...
