Park Bo Gum being mentioned again in a tv program. I think they talk about bogum being the husband material. Maybe someone could give the translation?

From the Japanese fansite I follow, it's S.E.S Bada talking about her husband who she claims look exactly like Park Bo Gum. :cutekitty:

Yes, @autumnight, if I remember right, this was the award-winning photo for the Shinhan Bank CF.

    Thank you @gumtaek :glee:

That Koreaboo article confused me lol I don't know where they're getting the idea that these photos are b-cuts from projects Bo Gum did with KOFIC...  I look into my Shinhan bank folder and saw this lol

  3. @partyon Thanks for the poll :D Had a hard time deciding between Encounter and ROY and I chose almost all the options in the third one because I really want to see him in anything really... I'll even watch romcom if he's in it ;)

It seems like the premiere for Seobok is today, but my local cinemas have been playing it since yesterday and I already watched it:gangnamstyle:

Don't want to accidentally give out spoiler, so I'll hide my whole review... please only read it after you've watched the movie.

    Spoiler

I really enjoyed the movie a lot, even though it was almost 2 hours, it felt like it was only an hour long :sweatingbullets:

First of all, the tone and visual of the movie is really spot on for me. The CGI is integrated seamlessly to the movie and really enhanced the viewing experience. My favourite scene is when Seobok moved the rocks in the beach to create a stone graveyard for Kihyun's friend. It was beautiful and emotionally powerful.

The story itself is quite familiar to fans of the sci-fi genre, and in many ways it followed my expectations. What surprised me was Seobok himself... I expected him to be more innocent and childlike because of his sheltered life and his appearance, but he was a cynical realist and you can see it from his gaze (I think this is what gong yoo was talking about) and the first questions he asked Kihyun. Bo Gum really nailed Seobok's fragility and his anguish of not having a place to be "somebody" in this world. I still want to know how he can make his neck muscles pop like that... :D

I enjoyed SB & KH's "trip" and the chemistry between BG & GY, but I wish it was longer. I want to see Seobok explore the world more and think about what his life can be like in the outside world. I feel like the movie throws out a lot of questions about life, immortality and philosophical elements for the viewers to think about but didn't quite answer them in the movie.

Side note: I gasped when I saw Bo Gum's childhood photo in the church... I have a mixed feeling seeing his real childhood photo being used for the dead child. :sweatingbullets:

    [ending spoiler]

I expected Seobok to die, but I really wished the director had betrayed my expectation. But in the end, I guess the glimpse of the outside world was not enough for Seobok to gain a desire to stay on living. (Plus he's basically dependent on the drug and would be living his life on the run) The ending also felt a bit abrupt to me. Kihyun followed Seobok's wish too fast IMO, I wanted to see him wavered more. I also wanted to see more of the epilogue. I stayed on after the credit finishing rolling hoping for a last glimpse ala marvel movies. :( How I wish this is a drama instead, or maybe a 6 hour long movie, they could have explored more the concept of immortality, living and dying...

  5. BWS on working with Bo Gum

Byun Woo Seok also spoke about starring alongside Park Bo Gum, who played the aspiring actor and model Sa Hye Joon, in the drama. “As everyone knows, Park Bo Gum is very considerate and kind, and he’s someone who immerses himself really deeply in his acting,” Byun Woo Seok said. “He’s great at expressing emotions. I learned a lot from him, and I was happy whenever I talked to him. We filmed together like close friends.”

He added, “I did worry about those things in the beginning. Hye Joon and Hae Hyo have been good friends since they were younger, so I thought that I should show off the side of me that seems like a close friend. That’s why I tried to get closer to Park Bo Gum in the beginning by having meals with him several times.” Byun Woo Seok then expressed his gratitude that Park Bo Gum had been very friendly to him, even helping him out with his lines.

Byun Woo Seok Talks About Working With Park Bo Gum, Park So Dam, And More In “Record Of Youth”

    Quote

Following the conclusion of tvN’s “Record of Youth,” Byun Woo Seok shared his thoughts on working with his co-stars from the drama, the hardest part of acting, and more in a recent interview.

“Record of Youth,” which aired its finale on October 27, is about young people who struggle for their dreams and their love amidst the harsh realities of the modeling industry. Byun Woo Seok starred as Won Hae Hyo, a model who wants to make a name for himself without relying on his family.

In the interview, Byun Woo Seok started off by describing his character. “Hae Hyo is someone who has a lot of emotions,” he said. “The environment and the emotions in the drama weren’t easy for me. There were a lot of things I could identify with in terms of my character being a model-turned-actor, but I looked at a lot of things for reference in order to understand his emotions that weren’t as easy for me.”

He continued, “The director guided me in a detailed way, and although Hae Hyo’s emotions were difficult, I think that I worked hard to create my character. Each of his feelings is important, but the most important one is when he’s talking to his mom (played by Shin Ae Ra) in the 13th episode, and his beliefs become shattered. I tried to build the emotions leading up to that point from the beginning.”

Byun Woo Seok went on to explain that connecting his character’s emotions throughout the drama was difficult. “I thought that I had to be able to make people relate to his feelings,” he said. “In order to do that, I worked especially a lot during the beginning stages of the drama, and I spoke often with the director.”

On working with Shin Ae Ra, he shared, “Shin Ae Ra took care of me a lot while we were filming. She gave me lots of advice and taught me about the direction I should go in.”

Byun Woo Seok continued, “I’m thankful for her because she was very attentive to me off the set, and she made me feel like her real son.”

However, working with senior actors like Shin Ae Ra wasn’t always easy for Byun Woo Seok. “It was so difficult in the beginning,” he admitted. “It was hard because Shin Ae Ra is so famous and such a big senior in the industry to me. She tried to make me comfortable, and I think that worked out well for us.”

Byun Woo Seok also talked about working with Park So Dam, who played the aspiring makeup artist Ahn Jung Ha. “Park So Dam also made me comfortable on set,” Byun Woo Seok said. “Being on set still feels unfamiliar to me because I don’t have a lot of experience. But Park So Dam made the set feel comfortable for me, so I was able to take on filming successfully.”

After wrapping up “Record of Youth,” Byun Woo Seok is currently filming his new movie “SoulMate” (working title).

  7. I have a mixed feeling about the last two episodes of RoY. I agree that the ending is written like there's going to be a season 2.

There are many plot points that I felt weren't given a satisfying resolution...

-The whole TS/reporter/Park Do Ha was totally unresolved. Even a brief mention about them after the time skip would have been great (like maybe HJ reading the news of TS/reporter being sued).

-HH secretly coveting his BFF's GF deserves at least a punch or two, but that was totally swept under the rug.

-I think the story would have been better if the writer skipped HN & JW's love story and focus on JH and her perspectives/family relationships. Her relationship with her mother in the penultimate episode really left a bad taste.

On the other hand, I love the interaction b/w HJ and his family and how they all grew to be a better family/people together. Some of their interactions are heart warming and hilarious at the same time. His brother has one of the best redemption arc I've seen in a drama and he didn't even have that much screen time. HJ's father really grew in the last few episodes and the scene of him asking for forgiveness was done really well. I love grandpa's success even if it felt a little unrealistic.

One of my favourite relationships in this drama is HJ & Manager MJ. She was really out of depth when the scandal hit, and even though she didn't do as well as I had hoped, she showed promise. I'm glad to see their relationship kept improving after the time skip. I like the resolution with the ex-girlfriend. I thought it was believable. (Ironically, it was her competence and calmness that brought a stabilizing element during that tumultuous time where HJ was hit by a mountain of scandals.)

As for the OTP of the series, the final talk between HJ & JH was much better. She wanted to break up because their relationship was turning her into a different person, a person she didn't necessarily hate but was not ready to become. So basically "it's not you, it's me". I can't believe she blamed HJ for everything in ep 15. I have read all the posts explaining why they're a good couple, but I just can't agree.

I'm glad this is an open ending. Just like those who like JH & HJ together can believe they will get back together, I can also believe that they will just stay friends. Those looks they give each other is because of past memories flooding back. And she really only wore those shoes because it's comfortable. :phew:

I laughed and cried watching this drama, sometimes both in the span of minutes. Thank you to everyone who post insights and information about the drama. You guys made the journey that much more enjoyable. :getmygrooveon:

  8. @gumtaek yes I agree with you 100% that it was HH who was using JH as an "emotional outlet" rather than HJ.

I think you are spot on about JH's stable-biased personality. There's a pattern of JH changing her mind when faced with troubles.

When she faced bullying from her senior in the salon, she decided to open up her own shop even though she was just promoted to designer and still didn't have a steady list of clients. Her father noted that she just did her life review (quitting job and buying house) recently. She said she didn't want to depend on HJ and HH for work, but she ended up taking a few referrals from HH because she had no clients. She said she would never ask HJ/HH to drive her, but ended up calling HH when she was stranded in the rain.

Now that her relationship with HJ is facing difficulty... This might sound harsh but watering the plant is easy, working out your relationship problem together is hard. HJ might have neglected JH (and all the things you listed), but I feel like JH put even less effort into the relationship. She also lied to HJ about her true feelings and kept seeing HH even though she suspected he might have a feeling for her. Lots of issues to work on here...

Lastly, I'm shocked that JH said what she said during the break up scene. Usually when people break up, they would soften the blow by saying things like "it's not you, it's me... ". But JH put all the blame on HJ. She immediately reminded HJ that he had been breaking his own words one after another. He was no longer the HJ she knew and that she felt burdened by this relationship. She stabbed him with so many sharp words, it's hard to believe that she's doing this for him.

So when HJ came to JH at the end and said he can't break up with her...   :emmm:

@Katy CJH's mom is easily the worst parent in this drama.
