5. The relationship with the ahjussi? haha, apparently LYW's character's name is the same as his first love.
come to think of it, if ahjussi's first love was yong ki's mother who died
(just a hypothesis since nothing's been revealed so far),
then in jeong would have the same name as yong ki's mother!

First of all, I didn't like how they just fastforwarded 5 years without having mentioned anything
yup 5 years went by so fast that many events seem to be swept under the carpet....
i cant seem to find a foothold to hang onto the story at all!
actually IJ didn't "leave" her parents in the hospital,
she decided to commit suicide when she found herself in dire straits -
family home put out for sale, miscarriage, parents on the brink of death and
needing tons of money for operation and hospital care, etc
she was just too overwhelmed!
luckily that kind ahjussi "saved" her and help her back on her feet again
and even becomes instrumental in "bringing" YG into her life!
and 5 years later, IJ and YG don't recognise each other? i wonder if they'll put a link back to their past at some point later.
and that child of SH & his wife, i really can't imagine him
agreeing to her proposal of having a kid so i'd even bet that they adopted one!

oh kwon sangwoo's lover.. what is her mother's connection with kwon sangwoo's father?
jo ann told yong ki's father that "her mother sends regards" so the 2 elderly must know each other well enough to send greetings like that.
in the chinese-subs, his father used the line "there's nothing one can do with the offspring of a loose/poor woman" referring to jo ann's mother
the chinese word used here could mean prostitute or it could also mean weary from enduring hardships
so we can tell yong ki's father somewhat looks down on her mother hence his disapproval for them to be together
beyond that, i dun think much else has been revealed

hey ay-link, exactly my thots, i'm so with you on this. the plot/script is not impressive and very little character development yet so many things happened in the story already; that's the same reason why i dun watch american TV nowadays. but the cast and the acting made it up somewhat. let's see how ep2 goes....

it was so superhuman, he didn't lose a limb or anything...
maybe the bazuka shot didn't hit him at all and he was just thrown off by the force of the explosion....
he's already suffered too much for my liking.....i hope all this only goes to guarantee harry gets lots of sweet loving later on in the drama hehe!

Ditto..I had the same feeling while watching Ep 6.
The cigar thing was one thing..but I was more amused by the fact that Harry could befriend that bell chap that fast too. I actually thought the bell chap was involved in the whole scam and that he was lying to Harry again in that he didn't know where the seller was. It's so obvious that they were conspiring to swindle Harry..and Harry just like forgot about everything when the Bell Chap mentioned Maria. They really made Harry look stupid..
About Tae Hyuk and Maria.. I was more amused over Maria's behaviour towards Tae Hyuk. I thought she was devasted and determined to find the killer of Eva. If I was Maria, I wouldn't let my guard off Tae Hyuk that easily. It's so obvious that Tae Hyuk's hiding something..and Maria just suddenly felt easy around him after all the commotion. Maria knew that Tae Hyuk was also involved in Eva's handing over the secret info..isn't it a bit unlogic that she can suddenly forgive him so easily and now smile around so comfortably with him. Moreover, I have to comment on Jang Jin Young..no offence but I think her expressions are really unconvincing..esp when she's around Tae Hyuk, showing how sad she is over Eva's death. I just find her stiff and soooo..er..I don't know..Maybe it's just me.
i love the layers they're painting in each of the character in this drama, particularly for harry. i think if his father hadn't died, he might have been an educated elite (maybe an overseas grad). as fate would have it, he ended up spending years on the streets as a 2nd class citizen in a foreign land with a sister to care for, meaning he wasn't really free to fully explore all avenues to develop himself since he always had to be around to provide/protect her - in other words, he was in dire straits, a desperate situation for someone without much education that even saw him trying to make a fortune through gambling! so there's a part of him we see where he identifies easily with the lower levels of society, he has survival instincts yet he's rather naive and trusting. i think he has all the right abilities within him but they haven't been discovered, coached, molded, trained etc. which i believe his gangster boss lady and James will be doing for him. and doesn't the preview show maria herself is gonna go thru some similar grooming as well?! i'm just bursting with anticipation. when is he gonna tell maria who he is?
i can understand why maria seems to accept tae hyuk so quickly after eva's death....after all, he was the one chosen by her beloved & highly respected sister, maria must have had some level of confidence in her sister's judgment. and he did seem remorseful now. but beyond that, she has no one else to turn to, at least he's offering to help her investigate eva's death and he showed genuine concern for her mother too by paying her a visit at the very first go! maria's somewhat lost, scared and tae hyuk could be her last straw at making any headway at all.
a drama like this really makes me wish i knew korean cuz i'm so worried that i'm not getting the whole story cuz sometimes things are lost in translation. i'm still trying to piece the puzzle about how all those military & political figures are connected both in the past and in present days! question: james is the man soo young witnessed killing another soldier during the shootout many years ago, right? so james is a subordinate of tae hyuk's fiancee's father in the past and now too? and tae hyuk's father is a businessman sponsoring political action? was he ever involved in anything during the submarine period?
i'm enjoying this!

anyhoo i'm looking for to seeing Lobbyist next week.. i'm actually glad that Harry didn't tell Maria he is actually Ju-Ho, even though he found out Maria is So-Yeong... because I think it's more fun this way.. if i were him i wouldn't say anything either, and see how long it takes for her to figure out, and what her reaction would be. ^^
me too! i like the dramatic scenes and fast pace in this drama and i especially love the child actors! impressive!
i think it's so romantic that Harry has identified So Young but she hasn't picked him out just yet......
but i'm just holding my breath in case So Young falls for someone else and Harry has to go through all that pain watching her! *sigh*
dramaok, thanks for clarifying the background on James, Mr Jang and Mr Kang....that really helped clear up my mind and now i'm full of anticipation for next week!

it was really good so ..
from hearing her play live when she was practising for her concert in the last couple of episodes, i think she doesn't play the guitar at all. in fact the tune she played was what i learnt in the 2nd lesson of my Yamaha guitar course like 30 years ago! yup one ahjumma here hehe!

Can anyone tell me what's and how's the relationship between HT and his fellow lady colleague who joined the company upon his return?
They seemed to know each other even before she join the company.
in ep2 when they met at the elevator, there was a short flashback showing that Hyung Tae and the girl met at a bar
i think she mentioned the name of the music he was trying to recall and she told him which album it was from
he also heard about her joining the company from the librarian when he was there to borrow books for Nan Hee's research
so i'd say they're just acquaintances who happen to meet again now in the company where she is an intern or new staff and he's her senior (sunbeh)

Could anyone explain the arrangement that had Nan Hee ending up living at Hyung Tae's place? My Chinese isn't good enough to understand every thing unfortunately.
i'm not 100% sure cuz i only managed to gloss over eps 1 & 2 before i worked on translating ep3 but here's my take on it......
Nan Hee was fed up with the sad state of her life and how her mum's always nagging at her for that as well
so after a quarrel with her mum (and also what the fortune teller said about her bringing bad luck to the rest of the family)
Nan Hee decided to move out to challenge herself for growth.
at the same time Hyung Tae decided to take a 6-month soul-searching trip (with money he got from a deposit for his previous house or something)
and if i'm not wrong, Nan Hee offered him her whole life savings as rental for her to stay at his place while he's gone.
i don't think they initially had plans to be living together, Nan Hee was only going to stay there till she can find a place
so she wouldn't be at Hyung Tae's place by the time he came back from his trip 6 months later?!
but somehow Hyung Tae came back early and couldn't give Nan Hee any money back so she couldn't rent another place outside
so they decided to bunk in together and share out the cost of living for 6 months.

I think, after so much sadness, she has realised that how much she needs him by her side. I think she does that not just for her sake's, also for the sake of their baby. I think everyone would do that, even though it may be considered as selfish. I think, GC's fiance is also a very selfish person as she knows that GC doesn't love her but she still holds on too him. Is that selfish? I know you don't like the idea of snatching someone's fiance, but they are not married yet, and GC engaged with her just because DJ refused him and he wants to respect her decision. It would not be a happy marriage anyway as GC doesn't love his fiance. So I think it is not bad if GC will returns to DJ's side
i see it as DJ wanting to spend her limited time left in life with GC as much as possible,
her fight with JS is giving her the will to live and it keeps her going day by day.
i agree with those of you who said JS has been very candid and purposeful in her dealing with DJ
i like her courage and i applaud her perseverance - she is living on the hope that one day GC will accept her love
and she knows she has the upperhand over DJ becuz GC is not some irresponsible fella who will rescind on their engagement
that last scene in ep12 when she noticed DJ's symptoms......i think she might decide to opt out once she knows the truth about what's happened to DJ.....
i'm really hoping so
there are quite a few reasons why i love this drama....
- great storyline/plot (all the side plots are so interesting too) and great acting
- super high on sentimental factor which i love
- great music & lyrics too!
- i always love it when the woman prods on or teases a shy man, hehe!

Well, he might immediately break off the engagement before he finds out about the baby, but why would he do that? He knows he can't marry Dang Ja because like he said, it might cause her more anguish instead, because Dang Ja is a career woman and definitely wouldn't be able to adapt to living in a traditional family such as his. He on the other hand, cannot simply break off ties with his parents.
Besides, haven't they already gone through with the engagement ceremony at the end of ep 8? Okay, they didn't actually finish it YET. Gi Chan still has an opportunity to run off in the middle of it all to save Dang Ja.
Well, maybe he'll be the bad guy for once, even though he is so far, the character who tries to do good whenever he can, because it's for Dang Ja after all, whom he loves more than anything.
Oh, a random comment: I thought that when he told Dang Ja that she was his first love (chut sarang!) it was sooooo sweet!
while i think that Gi Chan is a responsible and filial son and would never have agreed to the engagement if he was not pushed to the very extreme,
but one of my wishful-thinking scenario is that the engagement is a fiction of Dang Ja's imagination which resulted in her suffering all that pain.....
though highly unlikely *sigh*
but there might be a chance at the beginning of ep9 that we see Gi Chan calling off the engagement, right?
esp after what Dol Soon told him at his office - that he was the first guy whom Dang Ja ever gave her heart to
and the first guy whom she would ever consider marriage with *sniff sniff*
he did look away from Jung Suk at the scene where they were drinking champagne....he just sensed that something was wrong! there's hope yet!!!
u know, a wedding is a marrying of not only 2 persons but 2 whole families with different background/upbringing etc.....
so happens that Gi Chan and Dang Ja's situation seems to bring together 2 extremes of the spectrum but in any union,
a fair amount of understanding, acceptance, willingness to adapt/change/accomodate, support etc is needed
maybe in later episodes they will show how this takes place to pave the way for them to be a happily married new family, truly blessed by family and friends around them
in practical terms, i dunno how it will work out esp for a traditional family like Gi Chan's
(like in Hello! Miss, they never fully answer that question except for Chan Min helping out Dong Gyu more in the business
so that the latter can help aegisshi fulfill more of her head-of-clan duties)
admittedly Dang Ja might have to "give up" a little of who she is now so that she can take on another role as a mother and the wife of a head-of-clan husband
but to the degree she (and Gi Chan's family) is willing to accept the changes, that'll be the measure of how successful the marriage can be!

yes they do but they only allow married women not single ones to get sperms from there so that's why Dang Ja is stuck!
she just has to get the sperm for a perfect man 'out-of-the-system' way then find a way to ditch him after the job is done,

Of course, I LOVED the scenes of Do-Gyung and Ha-Joon, especially after they finished the painting project and it was a success, how Do-Gyung laid her head on Ha-Joon's shoulder....aahhh!!!
I loved that line said by Ha-Joon, "I will be your dumpster (trash can) from now on, dump all your problems on me!"
He's an ideal man to marry in real life.... "a good friend" who a girl can rely and depend on and being able to share her inner feelings & problems and he will always be there to listen and help out, how sensitive & caring!!"
yes, i finally watched ep 5 & 6 today and though i must be in the minority, i'm a HJ-DG shipper!
he seems to be the one who can put smiles on her face and she lets all her guard down with him and even tells him how she thinks/feels (esp about JS too!)

Anyway, I am going to wait and see what wonders LJJ will present to us as his acting, as I see it now, is superb! If he is unmoved by HDG, I'd say he was made of stone, steel and granite. Fearless and courageous he may be but a man nonetheless. What HDG represents to me is a different kind of woman, his alter ego, herself fearless and courageous. Someone worthy of his respect, yet so soft and sweetly feminine that he can't help himself. His lonely heart is turning to her, drawn by her stoic yet lonely persona. A woman who doesn't crumple into a whimpering tearful mess at the slightest whiff of danger. HDG is the new millenium woman. I wanna see how LJJ's charater handles her.....gonna have some real fireworks I'm sure. looking forward to it!

I'll admit that I was captivated by Ji Sung/ LJJ's charm.
Someone said he can just stand there and carry a garbage bag and yet still can draw your attention towards him. I'm one of them. Just to point out, I have never seen any drama or movie whatsoever with Lee Jung Jae, so I didn't know of him until I watched Air City. BUT..damn, he rreally has a peculiar screen presence which can make you stick to your screen without wanting to leave even for a sec.hey jo! missed u! good to have u here.....i'm here too!
yes, LJJ was just a name & a face to me. he never caught my attention,
in fact i can't remember having watched any of his works!
but he is enigmatic and i've nailed it down to his taut shape and his voice.
gosh! just close your eyes and listen to him speak.....totally manly voice, i must say!
does he sing at all? should sound quite nice if he can hold the tune hehe!
i saw an interview of LJJ in Entertainment Weekly on KBS World and they called him the best clotheshanger i think!

today's episode was good.... SH finally find out about DG's true feelings... she read his electronic diary on his cell phone after she fixed it...
They asked grandpa's permission to get married@!!!! didn't catch what grandpa's reaction was because it was buffering so much today..
Anyway in the preview for 16 on the KBS website... grandpa asked the clan for forgiveness.... and there is a traditional wedding!!!!
Can't wait til tomorrow..
yay! that would be a convenient lead into a major flashback of all their past together! yahoo! that's the way ah-ha ah-ha like it!

Dongkyu is disappointed at President Hwang when he found out that he is suggesting to buy Hwaahdang for 5 billion won. President Hwang ask Dong-kyu to leave Top group. Dongkyu leave the company and is disappointed at his grandfather
Dong-kyu leave Top group and head to Hwaahdang and Chanmin and Suha is busy planning to keep Hwaahdang. Hwaran is trying to get closer to Junyoung to get Hwaahdang.
Dongkyu tested Kimchi dumpling made by Suha and asked Chang to give it to President Hwang for testing. President Hwang tried it and was surprised that the taste is the same as Hwaahdang's dumpling. So he asked Mr Chang to make the same dumpling as that.
so the 2 families are gonna reconcile over kimchi dumpling?
maybe TOP group will pay Su-Ha for rights to mass produce her kimchi dumpling
in exchange for a suite at Hwa Ahn Dang for grandpa
thereby paving the way for Su-Ha to keep her Hwa Ahn Dang and
eventually for Dong-Gyu to be back on better terms with grandpa
and for DG & SH to get together?
but so sad seems like even until ep13 DG & SH still not together yet.....long wait!

Actually YI & her dad borrowed money from loansharks for her mum's illness then the mother died. They scrimp & save yet they can't even pay the interest portion of the debt but at least they had each other. YI was supposed to go university after her high school graduation but with her dad's death, she not only has to forego her studies, she now has to find means for survival and even take over the servicing of the loanshark debt. YI's dad died under suspicious circumstances but the police classified it as suicide (a suicide note was found). YI thought her dad had deserted her and chosen his own way out of their dire straits while she's left to face up to the whole crisis all by herself hence she 'hates' him for that and doesn't want to remember him.
