You brought up an important part that really rings true to me: the suicide attempt. How is it we can let fictional characters get away with schemes like that, but in real life this would be classified as emotional abuse. Can you imagine? Pretending to attempt suicide to manipulate your fiance/husband to do what you want him to do? Or in those modern dramas, pretend to commit suicide because you "can't live without him" to force the guy to choose you over his wife knowing that he'll feel tremendous guilt if you died.

ZR can blame her master for forcing her to achieve certain goals, but HOW she obtained those goals was entirely up to her. She could have simply ASKED Wuji to give her back the heavenly sword and to give her the dragon sabre, arguing that they belonged to the Guo and Yang family, which are related to Emei sect. She could have expressed her love to Wuji and see if he feels the same. If, after this declaration of love, he tells her he wants to be with her too then it's entirely on him if he decides to go back on his word. If he thanks her for her love and gently rejects her, then she can focus on glorifying Emei. She could have done everything her master ordered her to do (maybe not kill Wuji), but in an upright and honourable fashion. Heck, if she wanted to attempt to complete everything, she could challenge Wuji to a duel and then lose the fight, still holding her head up high because she tried and failed. Instead, everything she did was schemy, underhanded, manipulative, and wicked. I don't care what her intentions are, but her actions were evil and those speak louder. I just can't ever forgive her for choosing those acts. She's so selfish. She also never apologized to YL for the failed murder.

Well said!!  I totally agree with you and that is why I have never liked ZR.  It was good that Yukee Chen did not play ZR because if she was, I probably would not have watched this series.

  2. Now that HSDS has finished and there is no other series that interest me at the moment, I have been re-watching my favourite WJ-MM scenes and re-playing my favourite MV (the one posted by Joseph and uploaded to Youtube by LaurenPanna)again and again.

ZR has never been a character I like, so I ended up skimming a lot of her episodes.  The episode with her and WJ and his Yifu stranded on the Snake Island was one of these episodes.  What I don’t understand is who shot the arrows that killed the troops who were sent by ZM(MM) to rescue them.  This is one of the parts that I wish the writer didn’t deviate from the novel.   Perhaps one of you observant HSDS fans can help explain that to me.  It will be much appreciated.

Someone mentioned that you want to download that video.

I manage to download from weibo and I have uploaded to YouTube

    This is my link.

Thank you so much for uploading this video on youtube. This is my favourite MV so far of this series.  The song has a strong Wuxia feel, the tune is catchy and blends so well with most of the best WJ-MM scenes.

I think of all the HSDS adaptations, Yukee and Joseph make the best MM and WJ.  It is the first time I watch Joseph Zheng in a series.  I truly feel the initial criticism of his acting is unfair. Of all the WJ's in  HSDS adaptations, he is the most suited in age, look and has conveyed successfully the naivety, sense of righteousness and the various struggles and conflicts in WJ.

Like all of you HSDS fans in this forum, I too am suffering from withdrawal from this series.

Thank you for the enlightening post.

I think Joseph Zeng and Yukee are perfect for the roles and have done wonderfully playing WJ and MM.  Especially for the role of WJ, Joseph Zeng has worked really hard being on the wire doing all the difficult action scenes and able to immersed into the many emotional scenes which he too has done very well.  I think he deserves more praise than what is in the media for this role.

Now I am hoping to see a wedding scene in the final episode.

I too think this is the best adaptation so far.   The entire series is by far the best produced, including the gorgeous scenery, the special effects, etc..  The actors and actresses all are very suited for the roles and they all have done a wonderful job in their acting.  This adaptation has definitely added more depth to the storyline than the original novel.  Also, the main character WJ is a better person here than in the novel.  Instead of being unable to decide between ZR and MM, this WJ has remained true to MM.  His reflection in front of MM’s tombstone is very insightful and touching.  I can't wait to see the last two episodes and am glad that it is going to be a good ending (based on the previews).

  6. I too think that girl likely has orchestrated the whole thing herself for publicity reason.  LGX appears to be a very easy going guy and does not care to  explain himself.  With his good looks and popularity, I think a lot of girls would flock to him.  I have only wished that he would choose his girlfriends more wisely and carefully, someone with class and not just a pretty face.  Despite of the so called LGX scandal, I still want to see LGX and ZLY together on screen.

  7. Just read news that ZLY and LGX might be back for PA2, and Angelababy is going to be CE.  I hope this is just rumours and is not be true. With the terrible script writing in the second part of PA(1), and if Angelababy is going to be in it,  ZLY and LGX should not be any part of it.  As much as I want to see YWY/XE together, I rather see ZLY/LGX collaborate in an entirely different series, not PA2.  So far, I can see the rumoured amnesia plot can be dragged out. There is also a chance for the producers to script it so that Angelababy as CE is given more screen time than XE,  The more I read about the PA2 news, the more doubts I have.  The storyline will likely be all twisted,   and ZLY/LGX due to their already packed schedule may only be making brief appearances just to draw viewers in.  Angelababy  must be very popular in China, the producers of PA seem to be adamant about casting her, if she can't be XE, let's make her CE.  I guess if Angelababy plays CE, she won't have to worry about actions scenes. But her acting skills is no match to Li Qin.  Seeing all the things that can go wrong in PA2, I much prefer that ZLY and LGX will not be part of it.  I don't want to see YWY/XE couple ruined in any way.

Even without their dialogue, their acting is so convincing that it makes me all teary again.  I can see both LGX and ZLY's emotions were totally immersed in this scene.  The sadness in LGX's eyes, ZLY's crying are so real.  It would be nice if ZLY let LGX stroke her on her face and keep that part in the episode.

All in all, the last episode is choppy and rushed.  For me, that can be overlooked after long awaited icy lake scene when XE finally realises her love for YWY and vice versa, until the sudden and abrupt ending.

I too think that the chemistry between LGX and ZLY is amazing. As for their acting, both were excellent.  They were perfect for their roles.  I really hope they would be in another series again.

  9. What kind of ending is that?  So abrupt, at least show us a scene of CQ rescued YW, both floating up the water.  That should take only a few seconds, considering how they wasted so much time in recent episodes.

I agreed that that seems to be a setup for PA2.  If the script is going to be as inconsistent and draggy, ZLY and LG should not be in it.  They should just be cast in another show, one with a happy ending.  As for Angelababy, NO thanks! But then, it wouldn't matter because LGX and ZLY won't be in it and I would not be watching it.

  10. The novel ending is good, However, given only 1 episode remaining, I rather see the scenario that XE rescuing YWY with her awakened power. If the story here follows the novel, they would not meet again until the lantern festival two years later and this would likely mean an opening ending in this series.  Since I don't want a PA2 and I don't have the patience to wait, I much prefer a closure to the existing storylines.  CE's story done, CY will be killed.  There is still the prince and his invasion of Yinbei  and please please let YWY and XE together!!  NO waiting until PA2

News from insiders: Those who invested have never expect the drama to make such a big hit. They have make 2 diff films. Til ard ep42, all the investors and sponsors wanted their own sponsored actors to have additional screen time. It was told that the internet star Lan er was not part of the story was insisted on adding in screen time. So the producers and the editors all have to cut and paste the parts for all these. That's why after the JIU YOU Tai, all the scenes are a bit haphazard. The rest of the others are ok and they are having hard time too. ZLY was also taking full stress as she insisted on not cutting anything off from the QIng Shan Yuan parts. In actual facts, the sponsors for Qing Shan Yuan also wanted to add screens times for their own sponsored actors/actresses becos of the drama heat. In the end, they only wasted the efforts of the actors.

So, hopefully we have a good screen time of the main lead these 2 nights and of cos a good finale.

PS: The part where Cun er assassinating YX was actually just a side story from the original novel.

I am so glad that ZLY pushed for the Qing Shan Yuan parts.  To me that is the best part of the PA series.

Hopefully, we can see ZLY and LGX as the OPT in another TV series, and this time with a good storyline and good ending.

  12. I saw a brief clip of an interview of ZLY on youtube.  She said that the ending scene was separation and realizing their true feelings, but that time was too late as nothing much that could be done at then.  This was the last scene they filmed.  Her comment was about separation, both in drama and real life, at the same time,  as cast members/crew all leave when filming is done.    To me, this sounds like a bad ending.  In Chusen 2, with the little bells jingling, we knew she woke up and in JOF,  her see-fu took her away. I was complaining about those endings before, now seeing PA, the endings in Chusen 2 and JOF are much better than seeing YWY at the bottom of the lake.

I think and hate that it will be a sad and open ending.  I too along the many loyal supporters of this show who have invested so much time in this show and have been so patient with what plot as it deteriorates, the least script writers can do is give us a good ending.

Yeah PA is doesnt have a sayisfying ending just like any other dramas of ZLY in period ones

I am giving up on a happy ending.  I have never liked the idea of a PA2.  Especially after seeing how bad the script has gotten in the second half, I am glad that ZLY is going to be done with PA..

I hope ZLY's future projects will cast her in a better role and do justice to her superb acting.

  14. I too think LGX is more handsome than Song JK.  Both of them are very attractive and  come across as genuinely nice persons on reality shows.

Despite of its frustrating characters and plots (with the exception of YWY), I think the reason PA continues to have record high ratings is because of the cast..  ZLY and LGX are the perfect combo, both equally important, one without the other will not the same for me.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for good ending-  YWY and his XE together happily ever after.

  15. According to ZLY interview, there is 3 parts to the novel.  It is in the later part that CQ becomes truly  “強大 strong ”.  Unfortunately, this PA TV series only focus on the earlier which also happens to be the least likeable part of her character development.  I think this is an injustice to the character and actress.  So much time is wasted on repeating scenes at beginning of each episode and side plots unnecessary to the main CQ story.  PA will be much better if the script writers stay with just CQ and paced the story that shows her growth from being a lost slave to the great CQ that ends slavery alongside with her beloved YWY.   If it were not for Zhao Li Ying and the perfect YWY/LGX, I would have given on PA many episodes ago.

Overall, I think the cast is superb.  The script writing however is very bad towards the end.  If PA2, I know ZLY has already said she would have not time for it.  Even if she does, she really should look into the script before signing on. Otherwise, she can end up playing one of the stupidest and most frustrated heroines in drama history. I have been so disappointed and hopefully the ending will change my mind.

  16. Wei emperor gave his son the okay to stop invading Yanbei.  That is not good enough for YX.  He told his generals that he would continue to fight until he kills the emperor.  It is clear that Yanbei  people are suffering from the aftermath of the recent battles.  That made no difference to YX.  His priority is revenge not the people of Yanbei.

I also find it creepy the way he is lurking outside CQ’s room telling her that she’s the only one he has and therefore she cannot leave him. This is more like a threat and YX seems to have turned into a psychopath.

  17. As much as I dislike CQ’s many flaws in her character, I do feel bad for her.  Throughout the last 60+ episodes, she barely smiled.  The only time that she seems slightly happier was when she was in YWY’s manor.  Even then, she was under the cloud of avenging for her brother and sister’s deaths.  CQ/XE's  life has never been easy.  Her naiveté , stubbornness and blind loyalty have led to huge disappointment. She is always between angry and unhappy and sad.  It must be very emotionally draining for ZLY to play this role. In fact, ZLY did it so well that we viewers have become very agitated and flustered with CQ.  Salute to ZLY! I think she deserves to be the top in that recent poll of the female actress.

As for YWY, he is the total opposite of CQ.  He is so flawless that veiwers can only love him.  In the preview, he again shows his wisdom and thoughtfulness.  He is so sweet in sending away YQ so CA could cry a river.  I wish CQ/XE’s words instead of only about feeling indebted to YWY,  they could be about how  it is so hard  for her to be without him too.

I think both YWY and XE deserve to have a happy ending.

Lastly, I don’t quite understand the reason behind the villain moustache guy wanting to kill CQ and her mom.  Can someone explain this?  Thank you.
