  1. :lol:I've always opined that the true purpose of daily dramas was to teach actors how to act, one set of emotions or character traits, at a time.

For instance, JB's first assignment was to learn how to act like a selfish brat. Once, she had achieved that, her next assignment was to learn how to beg and cry.

Perhaps, this also explains the lousy writing.  The daily dramas are training ground for wannabe actors, writers, directors, etc.

  2. Unlike this drama, the recent weekend drama, Never Twice, did a really good job of showing the extent of each member's downfall and subsequent atonement of a nasty/evil family.

The rate and the way of change for JJ, father and CJ is not creditable.  And, I think the love story line between CJ and JB is totally from left field.  There's been nothing that has made JB worthy of anyone's love, let alone one of the three tormentors that made life hell for CJ's sister.  Don't see it, don't get it.

  3. Name of this drama needs to be amended to " Bittersweet Chocolate". :P So far, this drama has been a crying feast.

However, that is the better part of the drama.  The stomach-turning family  characters, inheritance fight and predictable events are so cliche.  Wish the writer was more creative with the plot and characterizion.  <_<

It would be funny if Netflix intentionally screwed up airing ep 13 and 14 just to gauge viewers reactions, or lack of. :P

Again, another drama where the world is screwed up by the so-called elder generation.  If one is an elder, one should know better.  Hmmm, "older and wiser" doesn't always apply.  Guess  "the good die young" does apply because only the bad remain alive to screw up the world.

  5. I swear, in one scene and for a split second, I wondered who was the new character of a beautiful woman.  Then, I realized that it was Saya.  :lol:

i wonder if Saya is going to be the most cold-heated character.  He has already shown his brilliance in scheming, planning and manipulating people.  We know that, even though he is well-read, he has neither moral compass nor understand the value of life.  I guess it will be up to Tanya to teach him.

  6. Brilliant writing.  Now, they are involving the issue of twin brothers being raised in different societies.

One society being caring, welcoming, passive, peaceful, communal, familial and awards "worth" to all living things; plants or animals. This was Euseom's environment.

Second society being hierarchical, ambitious, powerful, brutal, singular-minded, goal-oriented and forsaking of all compassion. This was Saya's environment.

EXCEPT, Saya was allowed to read books.  So, we will see how book-learning might make a difference, eve n if raised in a brutal and cruel environment. Very interesting.

The drama is doing well in exploring some of the issues related to development of a city-state.

People may watch dramas purely for light and casual entertainment, since we all live our own 'drama' every day. :P  So, many may not want to watch a drama with heavy and unsolvable topics.

  7. After watching Lee Jung Jae's new drama, "Aide", I realized that Arthdal is just an ancient version of "Aide".  The political manuevering, ambitions, greed, betrayals, backstabbings are just the same, even though the two dramas are thousands of years apart.  Tsk, tsk.  Humans will never change. <_<

As for categorizing the different tribe's actions, cruelty, evilness, etc., I default to Darwin's theory of 'survival of the fittest'.  So, the survivors are the ones who have done the worse.  And, we are descendants from those survivors.  <_<

  8. If the rest of the episodes are on the level of episode 2, this will be a super blockbuster.

Kudos to the writer for showing  how various societal issues are represented by the different tribes.  Some advocate expansion of their land and gaining dominance over others to do their bidding.  Others advocate a more agrarian society.

Writer even included different forms of governance.  Some believe in a pyramid shape model of leadership. Others hold discussions where all members may participate.

This is not a shallow or superficial drama.  I look forward to seeing what else the writer has in store for us.

  9. Didn't have time to finish the episode.  Trying to watch in the midst of preparing for a party.  Found it interesting, but unlike a typical Korean drama, where good guys are obvious from bad guys. In this case, there are so many different tribes that it is hard to differentiate who is who.    Perhaps, the differentiation could have been achieved if the costumes had more differences between tribes.  It may have eliminated confusion for the viewers.

I suspect that this drama will not be a good fit for the older generations.  But, the younger viewers may like it, and especially people who are into the GoT style.

As for the Netflix subs, "Let's fill our glasses..."   Duh, glass hadn't been and wouldn't be discovered for thousand of years.<_<

  10. Hee,hee ... You all know that the inner wrist is one of the erogenous zones, right?

Poor Eun Ki, the boy can't get a break.  Not only does no one around him catch onto his feelings for DM and help him, they even trip him up at every turn. . The boy should just give up and call it 'kismet'.

  11. KJW really caught my eye in Coffee Prince, which was a rom-com.  Then, I was impressed with his performance in "Bad Guy", along with Kim Nam Gil.  (Sad, and so unfair, melodrama.)

I actually prefer his performances in the more serious dramas.

If I had to rank PSM's kiss in Healer, WWWSK and this drama, I think  WWWSK still comes out on top. That was super hot. Of course, there are many episodes and many more opportunities, in this drama, for them to ratchet up the heat.

Fan-girling has no age limit.  Look at all those white and gray hair people celebrating Elvis Presley 's birthday, visiting his Graceland mansion, collecting Elvis souvenirs, etc.  And, Elvis has been dead for decades!

  12. Eun Ki needed to watch some Kdramas, where he would have learned dialogue, such as:

"With love, it is about timing."

"It is a miracle when the person you love, loves you back."

EK = brawn and not enough brains.

Addendum:  @zenya22- Yes!  It might be Parkinson, which would tie in with Ryan no longer painting.

  13. Ryan : "I need to stop pretending to date" ...  So, I can start dating for real.

That silly girl knew full well what Ryan meant. Yet, she plàyed dirty, just as she accused EK of doing. However, she seems to feel guilty.  So, maybe, there's hope for her yet.

As for the producer husband, I think he's doing an expose on the subject of fangirls. When she finds out,  he's going to be trounced by his wife, and judo-flipped by the son.

In DM's mom's reminiscing, there were several kids playing, along with DM and EK. I wonder if DM had a brother who died.  So, the mom really thinks of EK as her son.

  14. Fluff is good, at times.  And, fluff is always needed.

Fluff is like comfort food that brings back good memories.

Fluff is the chocolate one eats when one is feeling down.

Fluff is Mom's warm chicken soup when one is sick.

    Addendums: 1)waves@nonski.

    2) @Sky8lue - Just the thought of Dazzling/Light in Your Eyes gets me emotional.  And, I really prefer the title, Light In Your Eyes, because it describes exactly the state of a person who is living with presence.

  15. Ahhh, EK's abs ... I've missed them, after Descendants of the Sun ended.  Coo, coo, I've missed all the early morning "Doves of Peace".  :w00t:

Back to this drama, here is my theory on why Si An has many paintings from that artist (Lee Sol).  It is because she was his mother.  And, the reason Ryan is so drawn to those paintings is because it is a hidden memory of his mother.  Therefore, Ryan and Si An are half-siblings. ?

And, upon closer examination of the painting, the memories of her sons are contained in the bubbles.   Perhaps, the paintings are the mother's way of preserving her memories in a fight against Alzheimer.

Hmmm, maybe I've been watching too many melos lately.  :P

  16. Very interesting that this drama turned out to be about:

    •  salvation,
    •  redemption,
    • and believing in the inherent goodness of people.

And, Father Lee was a perfect example of a person who lived by those beliefs.

Very appropriate, and rather brilliant, that the drama ends on Easter weekend when Christ died and rose again.   Metaphorically, it is possible for anyone to do the same.

We've seen Kang reporting to someone higher up with details of what was happening. Any bets on whether or not he will, ultimately, "see the light" and "spill the beans" on the higher up? -_-

  17. 4 hours ago, ktcjdrama said:

I wonder if it is at all possible to give punishment to Scar Face for the mistake in his ordering Kim to throw the grenade? Can there be an investigation into what really happened? Because right now, the public is being fed that Kim is a monster for killing innocent children... whereas the real monster is Scar Face. I want him punisContinuingc

Continuing dilemma:  Who holds ultimate responsibility?

    The doer or the instigator?

Legally, it is the doer who pays the higher price because it is believed that the person had free will to choose whether or not to do it. (Human kind can determine the punishment.)

Morally, and, ethically, it is the instigator of the action who society sees as the ultimate evil.  Yet,  aside from ostracizing the instigator,  society can't do much to him/her.  (A higher being will determine the ultimate punishment.)

Perhaps, this is why he is a priest.

  18. The thought had occurred to me that it would be funny if SS had been a champion muay thai fighter. :P

And, here's my wacky interpretation of Kim sitting higher than everyone.  In his capacity as a priest standing at the pulpit, he's accustomed to overlooking the flock/congregation seated below him.  Therefore, in his capacity as leader of the fight against the bad guys, which is not being very priestly, he no longer can stand above  the team.  Instead he is midway between  being a priest and the rest of the team. Half-priest and half-special opts agent.
