  1. Regardless of culture or tradition, I think the most important and basic fact is that everyone treats each other with respect.

    And, I don't mean the respect accorded because of status or hierarchy.  I'm talking about the basic respect of one human being to another.

    As for 'tradition', this is the problem I have with people, who are supposedly educated, espousing 'tradition' as the reason for their behavior.  Their reasoning that this is the behavior 'lasting a thousand years and if it was good enough then, it's good enough now' is not valid because the world is not as it was a thousand years ago and what was good enough then, is not good enough now.  (Otherwise, why do we have or need fire, books, cars, hospitals, schools, etc.)

    If they were truly educated, they should know better than to adhere and abide by such unreasonableness. Or, perhaps, their educated diploma isn't worth the paper that it's printed on.  :-?

  2. The straw that breaks the camel's back, i.e. JH's tolerance to stay in the marriage, is when TW slaps her.  At least, I hope so because people not accustomed to violence can become shell-shocked and not know how to extricate him/herself out of it.  They just become stone-faced and practically catatonic.

    Violence breeds violence. And, TW was raised in an environment where physical violence was used in place of sane, reasonable conversation.  So, no matter how hard he tries to control himself, he will end up doing the same.  :-< :-q

  3. TW and JH reminds me of Prince Charles and Princess Diana.  Each person's expectations of the marriage were completely different.

    The two women thought they and their future spouse had an understanding/agreement and were on the same wavelength with them.  They also had expectations that the men would be man enough to protect/side with them against the world.

    The men thought they understood the women's position/fears.  But, they also thought and expected the women to understand and accept reality.  And, they couldn't understand why the women were so easily upset by the reality.

    (Classic case of Men are From Mars, Women From Venus.) 8-|

    To the men, I would say, "Buster! You, yourself, need to get real."  Just because you were born and raised in a screwed-up family, what makes you think that anyone else in the world would or should understand or face your reality?!"  8-}

    As for the women knowing what they were getting themselves into, by marrying into these families.  They may have had some idea.  But, I don't think anyone can really know the extent and depth of the convoluted-ness until they are actually living as part of the family.  I can guarantee that JH would not have gone through with the marriage if she had seen the old witch, with the botoxed lips, in action like she was in ep 15. :-L

  4. @Kaciemom:  The best role that the new girl had was the lead in "Assorted Gems".  Since then, it seems like she has gotten mostly supporting roles and not much exposure.  But, she was decent in "Assorted Gems".

    (Actually, I'm not watching this drama.  I just ff ep 15 because I read about the scene of the FIL, nasty MIL and loser son.  And, I quite enjoyed that scene.  Although, I wished the FIL had drawn blood because I knew the loser was going to take it out on his wife.) :P

  5. Does anyone know the name of the song and the identity of the singer during Hyun Woo's jogging and swimming scene?  Just from the few English words, it's a song that may forecast the future of this couple.  :-??

    And, when that MIL yelled, if that was how her mother/sister taught her.  This would have been my answer, with a smile:   "Nah, I learned it by myself."  (Stood up and gracefully walked out.  Guaranteed to give the old bat either a heart attack or a stroke.  Problem solved.)  >:P

  6. Dong Yeon and Se Yeon should take a lesson from Soo Ha and Hye Seong (I Hear Your Voice) and her mother on how to live one's life.  :P

    Hallelujah, the end is finally upon us . . . with one last episode.  Thank you to everyone for a fun time.  And, most of all to gene71632, without whom, most of us would not have been able to survive this drama.  =D>

    See everyone around soompi!

  8. Dong Yeon seems to think that he is innocent, just because it was Man Bok who instigated the assault on Eun Su.  He's an idiot.

    As the saying goes, "One can lead a horse to water, but one can't make it drink."  No dispute that Man Bok issued the order.  But, it took someone to act upon the order to make it reality.  Man Bok could have screamed it from the top of the roof or taken out a full-page ad.  But, if no one listened and went ahead with the assault, nothing would have happened.

    Who is more guilty?  The one issuing the order?  Or, the one who acts upon the order?  It really doesn't matter because both are guilty.

    Dong Yeon is just a deluded egomaniac.  :-&

    They keep saying that either they'll die or the other side will die.  Please! Please save us some time and episodes already . . . Go and die, so that we can get onto the next drama.  =))

  9. gene71632 said: Ep 110 - nothing much happening just Dong Yeon got elected as Representative Chairman, Se Yeon gloats to Jeong Hoon and the development team member. Se Yeon arranged Gyeong Seon to briefly meet her friend to make her happy before she leaves. Eun Su got told some info about Lee Hye Young by Director Kim. Hyeon U saw Eun Su necklace which So Ra took from Se Yeon's room.

  10. The 'Goddess of Marriage' seems to have lost her mystical powers because there is nothing to commend any of the marriages, current and future, in this drama.  Actually, this drama doesn't speak well of marriage, at all.   8-|

    One reason that TW wants to marry her may very well be to duplicate his brother's marriage, which is what the totally :-& parents advocate, i.e. marry someone from a lower social and economic level.  Not low enough to come from the slums, but low enough so that she can't afford to complain or raise a ruckus about anything and has to 'suck it up'.  >:P

    If JH really wants out of the marriage, all she has to do is make her relationship with HW public.  And, I mean public, as in the media.  The publicity will definitely put her potential in-laws in a snit.  @-)

  11. Yeah, Jin Goo is going to die. In a conversation with ES, he thanked her for letting his mother still be a grandmother to Jun Hee.  During which, he also asked ES to continue to treat his mother the same way as now, if anything should happen to him.

    Of course, ES was shocked and told him not to do anything dangerous.  This is definitely a precursor to a fight which will lead to his death.  Probably at the hands of Dong Yeon and JR.

    Caveat:  I don't understand Korean.  So, it's based on the few words that I do know and pieced together.  8-}

    As for Park Jae Yoon, we had fun with his character in "Faith" because we nick-named him Prince Duck-Hind-richard simmons.  But, he's not a great actor.  The best role that I've seen him in was "Indomitable Daughters-in-law", where he played the male lead and was a really good guy.

    @gene71632:  Queen In-hyun's Man is a good watch.  It was a very well executed drama.  Great ost, very decent acting by everyone, good flow and script.  No stupidity or suspension of one's disbelieve required.  The time slips actually made sense . . . unlike some other dramas which I wouldn't name.  8-|

  13. Sometimes, I think we have to 'get a life', especially when our 'eagle-eyes' start noticing e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g in the dramas.  =))

    I've been cross-referencing this drama to Thorn Flower to Shark.  8-}

    Yeah, I forgot about today's episode, too.

    Guess what I just discovered!  SY is the same actress that played Jang Bin in "Queen In-Hyun's Man".  She must be making a career out of playing nasty people.  :))

  14. When JH slept with HW, I think she was subconsciously creating a reason that would split her and TW.

    She's loved TW for the last 3 years and I think she still loves him.  HOWEVER, she didn't bargain for his ridiculous family.  She is smart enough to know that marrying into that family is tantamount to imprisoning herself in a lunatic asylum, where she is wearing a strait-jacket 24/7.  So, her dilemma is whether she holds onto their love and sacrifices herself, her identify, her sanity, etc.  Or, does she break her own heart by giving up her love and save herself.  If she didn't love him, it would be very easy to call off the marriage and break up with him.

    She went on the trip to try and figure things out.  But, it is a dilemma that is not easily decided.  And, there in front of her stands is a gentle and caring man.  Of course, it is a man of whom she knows nothing.  For all she knows, his family could be just as crazy or worse than TW's.  Yet, she has a one-night stand with him.  Why?  Because she is hoping that the one-night stand will be a deal breaker on the marriage.  Sooner or later, she's going to tell TW about the one-night stand.  Not necessarily with whom, but just the fact that she did.  And, her expectations is that the one-night stand will take decision-making on the marriage out of her hands.

    But, there is one thing that makes wonder how deeply she loves him.  I find it strange that she dated TW for 3 years and never asked about his family.  Even as a co-workers, after 3 years, one usually knows something of each other personal lives.  The other thing that bothers me is TW's behavior with his family.  JH can't count on TW for moral support.  He silently acquiesce too much to his family.  If push comes to shove, he will side with his family against her.

    Honestly, that is the family from hell.  Run, don't walk away from them.  No amount of money is worth being treated as a slave and being disrespected as a human being.  :-q
