Guest kdramafanusa
KBS World 2008-01-11 13:26:27 1st Korean Drama on Europe's Terrestrial TV A Korean drama will be broadcast on European television for the first time ever. Hungary's national broadcaster MTV will air the historical drama "Dae Jang Geum," or "Jewel in the Palace," twice a week from mid-February. The 70-part hit series will air for six months. The Korean embassy in Budapest announced the decision on Friday. President Zoltán Rudi of MTV Hungarian Television said the drama produced by Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) will help introduce foreign culture to the Hungarian public. An MTV official said "Dae Jang Geum" is fun and informative all around but most of all highly marketable. http://world.kbs.co.kr/english/news/news_C...51666&id=Cu --- Korea.net January 10, 2008 Historical drama gives hope to Indian inmate Post card from India A convict in India has sent a letter of gratitude to a top Korean network for airing the historical drama “Jewel in the Palace,” or “Daejanggeum” in Korean. Narendra Kumar Sharma, an inmate at Ambala Prison in Haryana, northern India, sent the letter to Munhwa Broadcasting Company, or MBC, for producing the drama. Sharma is serving time for multiple attempted suicides, a crime under Indian law, and has been under close watch at the prison for the past three years. "I have developed a fondness for ’Ghar Ka Chirag’ and its lead character ’Jangum’ (Jang-geum), who has been quite an inspiration and influence,” Sharma said. “The actors in this series have given me and my friends here an optimistic view on life. It also gives me strength to counter any grave situation with patience." Actress Lee Young-ae starred as the main heroine Jang-geum in Jewel in the Palace. "Ghar Ka Chirag" is the Hindi title for the Korean drama, which is broadcast on the state-owned Doordarshan TV once a week. "My problems seem minor compared to the severe situations these characters face,” Sharma said. “This serial has been of great influence in my personal life as well adding a lot to my positive approach towards life. I dare say it is not only a motivation for people like me but for everyone.” “Jewel in the Palace” began airing in India in September 2006. The drama is enjoying high ratings, placing second or third among 38 primetime programs. The story of a kitchen lady in the royal palace who becomes the first female physician of the king, the historical drama was a mega hit in Korea and popular in other Asian countries. The series has been exported to some 60 nations, including those in the Middle East, Africa and Europe. The drama recently ended its run in Iran, where 90 percent of the viewing public watched it. One Korean public relations official based in Tehran said one reason the series has done so well in the Islamic world is because Shia Muslims sympathize with the plight of the main character "Janggeum," given their own situation at home. Taiwan has included the series in the culture section of a history textbook, underlining the "unyielding spirit" of the main character. Guest kdramafanusa
Source: TwitchFilm 대장금 (Dae Jang Geum) Film in the Making. Zhang Yimou Interested? Posted by . X . on July, 16 2008 One could argue half of the merit (or blame) for starting the Korean Wave, the one which made money anyway, goes to Bae Yong-Joon and his 겨울연가 (Winter Sonata). It sent a nation of okasan into Showa nostalgia, purging their wallets at the first sight of anything Yonsama-related, be it films or accessories like Pantene Pro-V or white scarves. But the other half goes certainly to Lee Byung-Hoon’s sageuk 대장금 (Dae Jang Geum). This jewel in the palace not only recorded humongous ratings of over 50% at home, it traveled anywhere from Asia (a huge hit in Japan and Hong Kong), the US and now even Europe and Iran, where the guy reading the Quran on TV is complaining of unfair competition from Lee Young-Ae and Co. But they couldn’t stop there, could they? Oh yes. A film will be made. Studio999, the Korean company who bought the rights to turn the popular TV Drama into a film, is currently under negotiations for funding, but that’s not all. It appears they also approached director Zhang Yimou about the possibility of directing the film. Zhang and his production company are currently examining the script, and according to Korean media are showing strong interest in the project. Zhang, who will produce the Opening Ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, is said to be a fan of the show, and if he indeed accepts, it certainly would be a killer ap in the Asian market. Still, we should consider this an informed rumor for the time being, as sources close to Zhang say the director is now fully immersed into preparing the Olympics Ceremony, and any future project will have to be discussed after that. We’ll stay tuned on this in the coming months. SOURCES [Star News], [DongA News], [163.com], [News Open World]

Anyway the drama is relatively old, so any links could be dead. Maybe you should consider getting the DVDs with English subtitles or rent it, if not you have to download over 70 episodes. It is a very good drama as shown by the phenomenal buzz around it.
Guest S.H.E_fan
been watching this series for a little over a week now (cantonese dubbed) and it's really good. It reminds me of how Huan Zhu Ge Ge (Princess Pearl) was the jem for mainland China's tv series. And this one is Korea's. This is moving towards being one of my top series. Are there any hi res official wallpapers?

She was asked which singer she likes and what she usually does during driving. She answered, "Eating snacks and listening songs." She's using English lyrics (Mama Mia)to learn English in this program, the MBC also interviewed her teacher. She said LYA's English will get better maybe later on she can be a translator....but LYA said "30 years later..." (If I am wrong, please correct it. My Korean level is like Primary 1 to 2 level or even worse^^) In the book store, she was asked what kind of book she like to read. She answered," Italian Food books. Recently she's interested in Italian Food." "History."(I am very sure about this)The camaera captured a Chosun history book. (Let me make a guess...Are you going to take a historic screenplay..?) It's a good news for the fans here. She can understand if you write it clear in English, she would be able to understand. If not, she can ask her English teacher. I am very glad, I can understand her normal dialogue when she said it in a not very fast speed. In 2005-2006, I also found a private tutor to learn Korean before I went to work. Rightnow, I am still learning it in a Korean church and I learn grammar by self-taught at home. "Fighting" Young Ae Ssi, I don't think you need 30 years. Lee Young Ae Ssi: I would like to share my English learning experience. I used to hate English(very much), I felt extremely tired in English lessons at school. My English was "OK" up to high school graduate, "OK" means a little bit better than "pass". When I entered the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, my English teacher is now a professor of ESL teaching in a university in HK.He came from England with a PH.D degree in lingustics, and he lighted up my life, he taught in a lively way, plus my oboe teacher was an American and my department head was a British. You were learning piano, so your ears were supposed to be better, so watch English movies without watching the subtitle. Singing the English songs is good for pronounciation.Get a Barron ToFEL test study book, everyday try to finish up 2-3 tests in a limit time. Before watching the MBC Special, I was studying "Korean2" published by Seoul National University. I like history too, you know....."You have to feel the weight of hisotry.."
