After starring in Mask Girl, Go Hyun Jung's possible next K-drama project will be The Mantis. 

On November 14, media outlets revealed that Go Hyun Jung will be the main lead of the upcoming Korean remake of the French series La Mante. The French series was made available on the OTT platform Netflix.

Go Hyun Jung's agency shared their response to the circulating casting news. According to IOK Company, "The Mantis is one of the offered works to our artist Go Hyun Jung. She is currently reviewing and discussing the offer."

The Mantis is a thriller K-drama and the story begins when someone starts a murder that imitates the style of an imprisoned serial killer. The serial killer then offered help to the police to catch the copycat serial killer with one condition and it is to make his son the detective that will be in charge of her. The upcoming series will be produced by Merry Christmas and the filming will possibly begin next year.

Go Hyun Jung got the offer to play the role of the serial killer with a police son. 

Meanwhile, there is no official confirmation yet if the K-drama will be released through a broadcast channel or an OTT platform. There are no other reports as well on the possible actors that will work alongside Go Hyun Jung.

Go Hyun Jung may be starring in a new drama!

On February 19, STARNEWS reported that Go Hyun Jung will be starring in the new drama “Namib” (romanized title).

In response to the report, Go Hyun Jung’s agency IOK Company shared, “Go Hyun Jung received an offer to star in the drama ‘Namib’ and is currently reviewing the offer.”

“Namib” depicts the story of a female CEO of an entertainment agency and a male trainee. Go Hyun Jung was reportedly offered to play the role of CEO Kang Soo Hyun, who first approaches the male trainee Yoo Jin Woo with bad intentions but gradually helps Yoo Jin Woo achieve his dream.

Go Hyun Jung recently impressed through her role of Kim Mo Mi in the Netflix series “Mask Girl,” which was released in August of last year.

Ji Chang-wook In Talks To Lead “The Mantis” Together With Go Hyun-jung

According to Ten Asia on January 9th, Ji Chang-wook recently received a casting offer to appear in the new drama “The Mantis” as the male lead.

“The Mantis is a thriller about a woman who was imprisoned as a serial killer a long time ago and the new incident that happens when someone mimics her method and begins a series of murders. The project drew attention as it’s a remake of the original French drama of the same name released on Netflix in December 2017.

 

Earlier, actress Go Hyun-jung made headlines as she was reported to participate in the Korean remake “The Mantis” as the female lead. The drama will be co-produced by Merry Christmas and MegaMonster. According to the plan, the production will begin in earnest within this year.

Ji Chang-wook is receiving favorable reviews for his performance in JTBC’s drama “Welcome to Samdal-ri”. In this series, he plays Yong-pil, who comforts the heart of his soulmate Sam-dal (Shin Hye-sun) as she faces various struggles in life, providing both warmth and excitement to viewers.

Ji Chang-wook has been booked and busy for quite some time now, and adding on to that pile of treat for his fans is the upcoming The Mantis Kdrama. On January 9, South Korean media outlets confirmed that the Welcome to Samdal-ri actor has been confirmed as the male lead in the series that is set to be a Korean remake of the French thriller series, La Mante, now streaming on Netflix.

 

Presently, Chang-wook is starring alongside Shin Hye-sun in the slice-of-life romance series Welcome to Samdal-ri, being aired on JTBC since December 2023. Right Before that, he’d just wrapped up the Disney+ action thriller series Worst of Evil with Wi Ha-joon and Im Se-mi. Here’s what has been revealed about The Mantis series as per the new revelation.

What Do We Know About The Mantis Kdrama So Far?

K-media source, Ten Asia, broke the news that Chang-wook has been casted as the leading man of the thriller project that’s likely to go intro production within 2024 itself. Prior to this announcement, it had also been reported that the Mask Girl actress Go Hyun-jung was also in talks to be roped in as the female lead of the new project. If that is to be confirmed in the future, then we can expect her to star alongside Chang-wook in the novel series that is to be backed by the production banners of Merry Christmas and Megamonster.

The original French series, La Mante, premiered on Netflix in 2017, and it centres around the misdemeanours of a psychopathic character mimicking the murder style of an infamous serial killer, named ‘The Mantis’. Ultimately, the police leans on the unlikely source of the original terrorising figure’s (otherwise known as Jeanne Deber – kept in isolation since the arrest) expertise to nab the copycat murderer.

However, Deber raises one condition before convening with them, that she will only speak to her estranged son, aka the detective leading the crime operations team, about it all. Thereafter, her son is left with no other alternative but to come face to face with his mother in order to successfully hunt down the killer they’re after in present day.

Other details about the thriller K-drama, it’s finalised cast and crew are yet to be revealed. In addition to having secured a primary role in The Mantis Korean remake, Ji Chang-wook is also set to star in the historical TVING series Queen Woo, expected to release this year. Moreover, he’s reportedly been booked as the leading cast member of the Sculptured City Kdrama series, for which he will supposedly be joining hands with EXO D.O. aka Doh Kyung-soo. On January 9, TenAsia reported that Ji Chang Wook was set to play the male lead in the upcoming series “La Mante.”

In response to the report, a representative from his agency Spring Company clarified, “While it’s true that Ji Chang Wook received an offer to star in ‘La Mante,’ he had declined [the offer] due to scheduling conflicts.”

Meanwhile, back in November, it was revealed that Go Hyun Jung was in talks to take on the lead role in the series. A representative from her agency IOK Company shared, “She is currently reviewing the offer to appear in ‘La Mante.’ It is one of the projects she has received an offer for.”

Ji Chang Wook received an offer to work alongside Go Hyun Jung in the upcoming Korean remake The Mantis. He has chosen to decline this offer to a scheduling conflict.

On January 9, media outlets revealed that Ji Chang Wook has been chosen to be Go Hyun Jung's partner in the upcoming Korean version of the French series La Mante. 

Ji Chang Wook's agency Spring Company responded to the casting reports. The agency stated, "Ji Chang Wook did receive the offer to star in The Mantis. Unfortunately, the actor has to decline the offer due to schedule conflicts." 

Ji Chang Wook is currently starring in the JTBC K-drama Welcome to Samdal-ri with Shin Hye Sun, Shin Dong Mi, Kang Mi Na, Kim Mi Kyung, Seo Hyun Chul, Kim Mi Hwa, Yang Kyung Won, and Baek Hyun Joo. 

After the JTBC K-drama concludes, Ji Chang Wook will star in several upcoming K-dramas. He will lead the series Queen Woo, Bulk, and Sculpture City. 

 

The top actor is also expected to return to the big screen with the upcoming film Revolver. He will be working alongside Jeon Do Yeon and Im Ji Yeon.

Jang Dong Yoon is in talks to join the upcoming Korean version of The Mantis.

On June 27, media outlet Sports Chosun shared that Jang Dong Yoon has been picked to join the cast of the upcoming Korean remake of The Mantis. He will reportedly play the role of a police detective. 

Aside from Jang Dong Yoon, top actress Go Hyun Jung also received the offer to star in the series. Early this year, it was also offered to Ji Chang Wook but the actor decided not to participate in the K-drama. 

Jang Dong Yoon will also reportedly lead the upcoming K-drama The Fairy and the Bald Idol. If the actor decides to join The Mantis, this will be his second upcoming project. 

Last year, Jang Dong Yoon was very active in the K-drama scene. He starred in the series Oasis, Daily Dose of Sunshine, My Man Is Cupid, and Like Flowers in Sand. 

Jang Dong Yoon is known for being part of the works The King of the Desert, Search, The Tale of Nokdu, Mr. Sunshine, School 2017, Devils, Project Wolf Hunting, and more.

On July 23, it was officially confirmed that Go Hyun Jung and Jang Dong Yoon would be the main leads of the upcoming mystery thriller K-drama titled The Mantis. 

The Mantis will showcase the happenings when a person begins murdering people in the style of a serial killer who has already been imprisoned for many years. The serial killer then asked his son who became a police officer to track down the new killer. The K-drama will depict its story from the French series The Mantis (La Mante) aired in 2017.

The upcoming K-drama will be the next work of director Byun Young Joo (Helpless and Black Out) and writer Lee Young Jong (12.12: The Day and The Flu). 

The Mantis will exclusively premiere on SBS in 2025.
