BTOB’s Yook Sungjae and WJSN’s Bona may be starring in an upcoming drama together!

On May 10, Korean news outlet MyDaily reported that Yook Sungjae and Bona had been cast in the new drama “Gwigoong” (romanized title).

In response to the report, Yook Sungjae’s agency IWILL Media shared, “Yook Sungjae has received the offer to star in “Gwigoong” and is positively reviewing it.”

Similarly, Bona’s agency Starship Entertainment also stated that she is positively considering the offer to star in the drama.

“Gwigoong” is a fantasy historical romance drama that delves into the tale of the Eight Feet Tall spirit that bears a grudge against the king, a female shaman who opposes it, and an Imuri named Gang Cheol Yi. In Korean folklore, an Imuri is an imaginary creature that spends a millennium in water and is able to transform into a dragon upon acquiring Yeouiju (magical jewel).

Reportedly, Bona has been offered to portray Young Mae, the only granddaughter of a revered shaman who grew up under immense expectation to follow in her ancestor’s footsteps.

Yook Sungjae is said to have received an offer to play the role of a concubine’s son who rises to become the royal inspector at Gyujanggak (the royal library in the Joseon Dynasty), only to be possessed by the malevolent spirit Imugi Gang Cheol Yi.

In the drama, Bona and Yook Sungjae’s characters share a bond as childhood friends and each other’ first loves.

The drama will be helmed by “You Are The Best,” “The King’s Face,” “Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth,” and “Mr. Queen” director Yoon Seong Shik, and will be penned by screenwriter Yoon Soo Jung, who previously worked with the director in “The King’s Face.”

Kim Ji Hoon is in talks to star in the fantasy historical K-drama Return to the Palace with BTOB's Yook Sung Jae and WJSN's Bona.

On June 24, media outlets reported that Kim Ji Hoon is returning to the historical K-drama genre after almost 15 years. Reports stated that Kim Ji Hoon will join the cast of the upcoming SBS K-drama  Return to the Palace. It was also stated that the actor is already coordinating with the production team of the series. 

The actor's representative hasn't responded to the casting reports yet. 

If Kim Ji Hoon decides to join the K-drama, this will be his follow-up K-drama project after Death's Game Part 2 which was released early this year. In the series, he worked alongside Seo In Guk, Park So Dam, Nam Kyung Eup, Go Youn Jung, and Kim Mi Kyung. 

Kim Ji Hoon is known for being part of the K-dramas Love to Hate You, Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area, Flower of Evil, Come! Jang Bo Ri, Flower Boy Next Door, and more. 

Last year, Kim Ji Hoon also starred in the Netflix original movie Ballerina with Jeon Jong Seo, Park Yoo Rim, Shin Se Hwi, Kim Mu Yeol, and Park Hyung Soo.

 

 

Kim Ji Hoon will possibly work alongside confirmed main leads Yook Sung Jae and Bona. The upcoming K-drama will be the next work of director Yoon Sung Shik (Mr. Queen) and writer Yoon Soo Jung (Sassy Go Go). 

 Return to the Palace will tell the story of the eight ghosts who have a grudge against the King and a shaman who will fight against him. 

There are no details yet on the role that was offered to Kim Ji Hoon. 

Return to the Palace is set to premiere in 2025. It will exclusively air on SBS and will be included in their Monday and Tuesday K-drama timeslot.

Kim Ji Hoon, the talented actor who appeared in many hit K-dramas is reportedly gearing up for his next one. According to updates, he has been offered a role in the upcoming fantasy historical drama Gwigoong (romanized title). On the other hand, BTOB’s Yook Sungaje and WJSN’s Bona are in talks to lead the drama.

On June 24, SPOTV News reported that Kim Ji Hoon is currently reviewing his offer to star in Gwigoong. Though any details about his character haven’t been disclosed yet, anticipation runs high about his addition to the drama’s cast.

Gwigoong is a new fantasy historical piece from director Yoon Seong Shik, celebrated for Mr. Queen, Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth, The King’s Face, and more K-dramas.

Set in the backdrop of the Joseon dynasty, the story centers around an eight-foot-tall evil spirit who holds grudges against the King. 

A female shaman is asked to help defeat this ghost. The drama will also feature a Korean mythical creature Imuri, that transforms into a dragon after living underwater for 1000 years.

BTOB’s Sungjae will portray the role of a royal library inspector and the son of a concubine. Later, he gets possessed by a vicious imuri named Gang Cheol Yi.

 

On the other hand, WJSN’s Bona will take on the role of Young Mae, who grew up in a shaman family and was expected to follow in the footsteps of her ancestors. 

Viewers can look forward to a heart-fluttering on-scree romance between Sungjae and Bona, as according to the reported narrative, their characters have grown up as childhood friends and then transformed into each other’s first love.

Gwigoong is now scheduled to premiere in 2025 on SBS Network.

Yook Sung-Jae, Bona, and Kim Ji-Hoon are cast in SBS drama series “The Haunted Palace” (literal title). The drama series is set in historical times and features a story with elements of fantasy and romantic-comedy. The screenplay is written by Yoon Soo-Jung (“Cheer Up!“) and directed by Yun Seong-Sik (“Cleaning Up“). Yook Sung-Jae will play Yoon Gab. Plot Synopsis by AsianWiki: Yoon Gab (Yook Sung-Jae) is a government officer and works within the palace. He has a good reputation and has a handsome appearance. One day, Yoon Gab’s body becomes possessed by an Imoogi creature. Soon afterwards, people begin to talk about him as if he has lost his mind. The Imoogi that has possessed Yoon Gab is related to Yeo-Ri (Bona), whose first love is Yoon Gab.

Yeo-Ri is the only granddaughter of a famous shaman and Yeo-Ri herself has a divine gift, but she refuses her fate as a spirit medium. She instead works as a glasses craftswoman. The Imoogi needs Yeo-Ri’s body to ascend to Heaven, but Yeo-Ri won’t allow it. After Yoon Gab becomes possessed, Yeo-Ri enters the palace that is filled with powerful female ghosts and evil spirts. Meanwhile, King Lee Sung (Kim Ji-Hoon) is a reformist monarch who dreams of a strong Joseon nation. Weird and terrible incidents continue to take place within the palace. These are related to the powerful female ghosts, who holds a grudge against the royal family. Shin Seul Ki is confirmed to join the upcoming SBS K-drama Return to the Palace.

On August 28, Shin Seul Ki's agency Big Smile Entertainment announced that the actress is joining the cast of the upcoming historical romance K-drama Return to the Palace. 

Shin Seul Ki will work alongside the main cast BTOB's Yook Sung Jae, WJSN's Bona, and Kim Ji Hoon. With this, Shin Seul Ki and Bona will be in a K-drama project once again. The two previously worked together in the hit TVING series Pyramid Game. 

This upcoming K-drama will also be the first project of Kim Seul Gi in a national television network. 

She made her official acting debut this year through Pyramid Game. She impressed viewers with her portrayal of the role of Seo Do A, one of the participants of the Pyramid Game. She also showcased great chemistry not only with Bona but with other casts such as Jang Da A, Ryu Da In, Kang Na Eon, Jung Ha Dam, Ha Yul Ri, and more. 

 

Shin Seul Ki was known after participating in the Netflix variety program Single’s Inferno Season 2. Since then, she has been active in the industry and currently pursuing acting.
