Ji Kang Hee (Lee Se Young) was raised in a motel run by her father which is essentially her home. She is of mixed race, with a father and a mother of mixed heritage. Because of her background, she faces many challenges and emotional wounds growing up. She falls in love with her childhood friend Cheon Yeon Soo but leaves everyone behind and moves to Seoul on her 20th birthday. Kang Hee becomes an interior designer. 12 years later, as she reaches the peak of her career, she is forced to return to her hometown and reconnects with her first love.

 

Cheon Yeon Soo (Na In Woo) is  a character who experiences a destined romance with Ji Kang Hee. Yeon Soo is a devoted man who loves only one woman his entire life. He works as a veterinarian and is the focus of attention among all the farmers in his rural village. The farmers constantly try to set Yeon Soo up with potential brides, bombarding him with matchmaking offers day and night. To dodge their relentless efforts, he allows a false rumor to circulate that he is in a serious relationship with a fellow veterinarian. In the midst of this pretense, his first love Kang Hee reenters his life. Misunderstanding the situation, Kang Hee believes Yeon Soo has a girlfriend, causing tension and conflict between them.

Actress Lee Se-young and Na In-woo are set to lead the cast of the upcoming MBC drama "Motel California."

According to OSEN’s findings, actors Lee Se-young and Na In-woo have been cast as the lead roles in MBC’s upcoming drama "Motel California." 

 

Known for guaranteeing high viewership ratings, Lee Se-young, who debuted as a child actor in the 1997 SBS drama "Brothers' River," has since appeared in numerous hits including "Dae Jang Geum," "The Great King's Dream," "Vampire Detective," "A Korean Odyssey," "The Crowned Clown," "Memorist," "Kairos," "Red Sleeve," "Love According to the Law," and "Nokdu Flower." Returning to MBC with "Motel California," Lee Se-young has previously achieved impressive ratings, peaking at 17.4% with "Red Sleeve" and 9.6% with "Nokdu Flower."

On June 13, it was officially announced that Lee Se Young and Na In Woo will star in the new drama “Motel California” (literal title). The 12-episode long drama is slated to air in 2025 via MBC.

“Motel California” is a romance drama written by Lee Seo Yoon and directed by Jang Joon Ho and Kim Hyung Min. It is based on Shim Yoon Seo’s 2019 novel “Home, Bitter Home” (literal title). The story follows a woman who grows up in a rural motel called “Motel California.” After escaping her hometown, she returns 12 years later to reconnect with her first love and face new challenges.

However, when he reunites with Kang-hee after 12 years, she mistakenly believes he is about to marry another woman, leading to conflicts between them.

The script for 'Motel California' is written by Lee Seo-yoon, known for dramas like '365: Repeat the Year (365: 운명을 거스르는 1년)' and 'Goddess of Fire (불의 여신 정이)'. Lee Se Young and Na In Woo will lead a new romance K-drama from MBC. 

It was officially confirmed on June 13 that Lee Se Young and Na In Woo will be working together for the upcoming K-drama Motel California.

Motel California will tell the story of a woman who grew up in a motel called "Motel California" located in a rural area. After leaving her hometown, she decided to go back after 12 years. There, she reconnected with her first love. The upcoming K-drama will base its story from the 2019 novel “Home, Bitter Home” by Shim Yoon Seo.

The upcoming K-drama will be the collaboration work of director Jang Joon Ho (Time and Hotel King) and writer Lee Seo Yoon (365: Repeat the Year and Swallow the Sun). It will be produced by HB Entertainment. 

Lee Se Young will portray the role of Ji Kang Hee. She grew up in a motel in a rural area. Her father runs the motel and she faced different challenges growing up in the place. On her 20th birthday, she decided to move to Seoul and leave the motel. She then became an interior designer but at the peak of her career, she was forced to return to her hometown. 

Na In Woo on the other hand will portray the role of Cheon Yeon Soo. He is the first love of Ji Kang Hee. He currently works as a veterinarian and takes care of the farmers' animals in the rural village. Because of this, the farmers tries to set him up and becomes a matchmaker for him but he only have one woman in his life. To get away with the endless matchmaking, he allowed for rumors to spread that he is already in a serious relationship with another veterinarian. Just then, his first love Ji Kang Hee returns to their village. 

Motel Califorina will begin filming soon and it will officially premiere in 2025.

This will be the follow-up project of Na In Woo after Marry My Husband. The actor is also in discussion to lead another K-drama which is See You After Work that will air on KBS. 

It was also recently confirmed that Na In Woo will officially leave the entertainment program 2 Days & 1 Night Season 4 to focus more on his acting career. 

Meanwhile, Lee Se Young will first star in a new series this year before she officially joins Motel California. The actress will lead the upcoming K-drama What Comes after Love with Sakaguchi Kentaro, Hong Jong Hyun, Nakamura Anne, and Lee Bo Ram

She liked her childhood friend Chun Yeon-Soo (Na In-Woo), who was her first love, but, when she turned 20, she left her hometown and moved to Seoul. 12 years later, she works as an interior designer and is reaching the apex of her career, but, for some reason, she decides to return to her hometown. She reunites with her first love Chun Yeon-Soo.

Chun Yeon-Soo works as a veterinarian in the village. The only woman he has loved is Kang Hee, but he has received a lot of attention from the farmers who are eager to introduce him to their daughters. In order to avoid these kind of uncomfortable situations, he doesn’t clarify the rumor that he is going to marry a fellow veterinarian. His first love Kang Hee appears again after 12 years.
