KBS 2TV’s upcoming drama “Iron Family” has shared a new glimpse of Choi Tae Joon’s character’s transformation!

 

“Iron Family” is a new “romantic black comedy” about a family that has run a laundry business for three generations. Geum Sae Rok will star as Lee Da Rim, the youngest daughter of the Cheongryeom Laundry family, who suffers from a rare illness that progressively narrows her vision. Kim Jung Hyun will play Seo Kang Joo, an executive director at Jiseung Group, who belongs to the richest family in the Cheongryeom neighborhood but struggles to earn the approval of his father.

 

Choi Tae Joon will play the role of Cha Tae Woong, a part-time worker at Cheongryeom Laundry. Abandoned by his parents at birth, Cha Tae Woong grew up in an orphanage and always had to fend for himself. With nowhere to go after becoming a legal adult, Cha Tae Woong was a lost soul wandering aimlessly until Go Bong Hee (Park Ji Young)—the daughter-in-law of the Cheongryeom Laundry family—helped him get back on his feet and find his first stepping stone towards adult life.

 

Newly released stills from the upcoming drama capture the changes in Cha Tae Woong after he meets the Cheongryeom Laundry family. In contrast to his dark, empty gaze and unkempt hair from before, Cha Tae Woong adopts a more clean-cut look and exudes a bright, confident aura after getting a job at Cheongryeom Laundry and becoming part of their family.

 

 

Because Cha Tae Woong cares for Lee Da Rim like a younger sister, he acts like a protective older brother when Seo Kang Joo begins to pursue her romantically. As Cha Tae Woong winds up clashing with this new suitor, the nonstop bickering between the two men will add humor to the drama.

Penned by screenwriter Seo Sook Hyang of “Pasta,” “Don’t Dare to Dream” (also known as “Jealousy Incarnate”), and “Wok of Love,” “Iron Family” is a dark comedy about a family that has run a laundry business for three generations.

 

The newly released teaser video opens with Seo Kang Joo (Kim Jung Hyun) and Lee Da Rim (Geum Sae Rok) crossing a crosswalk. Da Rim, using a cane for support, and Kang Joo, holding his favorite Zippo lighter, pass each other without noticing.

 

However, Da Rim soon halts when she hears the distinctive click of the Zippo lighter’s lid opening and closing.

 

The teaser raises curiosity about whether her sudden stop is connected to something Kang Joo said eight years ago. Set to soft music, the teaser features Kang Joo’s narration: “Am I hope? For you,” hinting at a deep bond between the two.

 

The video concludes with Kang Joo and Da Rim stopping and facing each other.

Kim Jung-hyun reunites with Geum Sae-rok’s Iron Family

Catching up with promos for KBS’s upcoming weekender Iron Family, the first teaser along with a slew of stills have been trickling in, promising us both rom-com and black comedy shenanigans with our leads: Kim Jung-hyun (Kokdu: Season of Deity) and Geum Sae-rok (Soundtrack #2). In a premise that sounds a little quirkier than our usual weekender fare, we’ll be following our title’s dry cleaners household as they somehow end up ironing money instead of clothes.

But before we get there, we meet our hapless hero Seo Kang-joon (Kim Jung-hyun), a director at Ji-seung Group. Although he tries his hardest to make his stepdad and CEO Shin Hyun-joon (Moorim School) proud, things never seem to work out in Kang-joon’s favor and the staff often avoid him due to his up-and-down personality.

 

The trailer is very much a tease, only revealing the happenstance of Kang-joon’s reunion with Lee Da-rim (Geum Sae-rok) eight years after their college days. A lot has changed for the dry cleaners’ youngest daughter Da-rim, who has been struggling with an illness that affects her sight. Crossing paths at the intersection, our pair almost miss each other when recognition hits in the end. The teaser then closes on Kang-joon’s gentle voiceover, asking Da-rim, “Is it hope? Is that what I am to you?”

Filling out the rest of our drama’s world, the new stills offer a peek at the supporting characters, including the orphaned part-timer Choi Tae-joon (The Midnight Studio) who gets taken in under the wing of our dry cleaner family. We also have Da-rim’s older sister Yang Hye-ji (Bad Memory Eraser), who works as a designer at Ji-seung Group.

The head of our central family is the happily married granny Kim Young-ok (The Pork Cutlets) and gramps Park In-hwan (One Day Of). As an affectionately bickering duo, the latter being younger still calls his wife Noona, even after all these years together. The two are also always sorry and grateful to daughter-in-law Park Ji-young (Love Next Door), who assumed responsibility for their dry cleaners shop in her late husband’s stead – despite becoming widowed while still pregnant with Da-rim.

The weekender’s story unfolds on September 28, with production for KBS’s Iron Family led by PD Sung Joon-hae (Bravo My Life) and PD Seo Yong-soo, along with scripts penned by Seo Sook-hyang (Greasy Melo, Jealousy Incarnate).

Geum Sae Rok has talked about her character in KBS2’s upcoming weekend drama “Iron Family”!

 

Penned by screenwriter Seo Sook Hyang of “Pasta,” “Don’t Dare to Dream” (also known as “Jealousy Incarnate”), and “Wok of Love,” “Iron Family” is a dark comedy about a family that has run a laundry business for three generations.

 

Geum Sae Rok stars as Lee Da Rim, the youngest daughter of Cheongnyeom Laundry family. Da Rim, who has had a rare illness since she was 14 that progressively narrows her vision, is a strong and determined character who rejects sympathy. While she holds onto hope of restoring her sight, she faces a significant challenge due to the high cost of surgery.

 

Geum Sae Rok explained why she chose to star in “Iron Family.” She revealed, “Despite Da Rim’s visual impairment, I found her strong and confident image very attractive. She is a character with diverse charms, which made me eager to take on the role.”

 

“The story was so interesting that I thought that it was just up to me to do a good job. I am very happy and grateful to work with the writer and director,” she shared. The actress also mentioned that the atmosphere on set is very positive, with the director being a great guide in developing her character.

 

 

Regarding playing a visually impaired character, Geum Sae Rok remarked, “I researched a lot on how to handle the character’s gaze and movements. Since the character can still see a bit, I wanted to portray her as naturally as possible. I paid close attention to how the camera angles affected her gaze and monitored each scene carefully to fix any awkward parts.”

 

 

Geum Sae Rok listed “hope,” “sight,” and “resilience” as the keywords that best describe her character Da Rim. She explained, “Da Rim hates false hope, but she is a character who always dreams and hopes. I want to express her desire to see and face the world. Additionally, Da Rim is resilient, so viewers will be able to see her resilient personality when they watch the first episode.”

 

 

Defining “Iron Family” as a story of love, Geum Sae Rok said, “The drama contains many kinds of warm love stories, including love for family, romantic relationships, and self-love. The newly released teaser adopts the format of the well-known Korean documentary program “Screening Humanity.” The narration in the video introduces Lee Da Rim (Geum Sae Rok) and her family, who are struggling financially while running their laundry business.

 

In one scene, Da Rim, despite her blindness, is shown helping with ironing. When asked whether it is dangerous for her to handle the task, she responds casually, “It’s okay. I’ve been doing it since I was young.”

Geum Sae-rok strikes gold with her Iron Family

Puns abound in this mockumentary-style teaser for KBS’s upcoming weekender Iron Family. Parodying the broadcaster’s long-running series Screening Humanity, the newest subject is a third-generation dry cleaning family with a very odd secret.

The teaser introduces the three generations working at the cleaners from grandpa Park In-hwan (Heartbeat) to daughter-in-law Park Ji-young (Love Next Door) and finally, the show’s namesake, granddaughter Lee Da-rim played by Geum Sae-rok (Soundtrack #2). Her name sounds similar to “iron” in Korean, and that’s exactly what Da-rim does despite not being able to see.

 

When the filming crew asks her if it isn’t dangerous for someone with visual impairments to iron, she tells them that it’s fine since she has been doing this from a young age. The crew then calls cut, but at that moment, a strange noise draws their attention. The camera whips to the side and catches grandma Kim Young-ok (The Pork Cutlets) ironing, not clothes but cash. She happily tells them that she is laundering money, but then realizes her mistake a second too late and blocks the camera from filming.

 

Dropping the documentary crew, the teaser shows snippets of what may have transpired to cause this wacky scenario, and we see leading man Kim Jung-hyun (Kokdu: Season of Deity) carrying his mom Kim Hye-eun (Not Others) while she cries, “Thief!” It seems her money may be at the dry cleaners as Grandpa opens a washing machine and finds cash flowing out of it like water.

Da-rim’s family apparently are big believers in not looking a gift horse in the mouth as everyone smiles at this sudden stroke of luck. Grandpa says that he might actually get buried in cash, and Da-rim echoes the sentiment, saying that her family may finally live a life without wrinkles like everyone else.

Directed by PDs Sung Joon-hae (Bravo My Life) and Seo Yong-soo with scripts by Seo Sook-hyang (Greasy Melo), KBS’s Iron Family is slated for thirty-six episodes and premieres September 28 in the Saturday-Sunday slot.

Choi Tae Joon and Yang Hye Ji have shared their thoughts on their characters and their interactions on set of “Iron Family”!

Penned by screenwriter Seo Sook Hyang of “Pasta,” “Don’t Dare to Dream” (also known as “Jealousy Incarnate”), and “Wok of Love,” “Iron Family” is a dark comedy about a family that has run a laundry business for three generations.

Choi Tae Joon plays Cha Tae Woong, a part-time worker at Cheongryeom Laundry, while Yang Hye Ji stars as Lee Cha Rim, the second daughter of the Cheongnyeom Laundry family. The two share a special, yet somewhat complicated relationship. Tae Woong expresses his feelings for Cha Rim, believing they are mutual, but Cha Rim rejects his advances, leading to a push-and-pull relationship that adds excitement to the drama.

Choi Tae Joon and Yang Hye Ji shared their thoughts on their characters, interactions on set, and anticipation for the drama’s premiere.

Choi Tae Joon expressed his excitement about working with writer Seo Sook Hyang and director Sung Jun Hae, saying, “I have always been a fan of writer Seo Sook Hyang. It’s an honor and a pleasure to act in a drama written by her. I eagerly anticipate each new episode’s script.” He added, “The director always creates a vibrant atmosphere on set. He is very attentive and considerate and always ensures that actors can perform under the best conditions. I am always grateful for that.”

He continued, “Tae Woong is a charming yet complex character with a complicated background. He has experienced many things that I cannot personally relate to. I can’t reveal too much as it might be a spoiler, but I can confidently say that I’ve grown a lot while acting as Tae Woong.”

 

Choi Tae Joon also talked about his strong chemistry with his co-stars. He shared, “I feel like I have gained two younger siblings while playing Tae Woong, and I’m really enjoying it. Acting with Geum Sae Rok and Yang Hye Ji makes it easy to become naturally affectionate.”

 

Yang Hye Ji described her character Cha Rim as having a “cold exterior but a naive and innocent charm” and shared her efforts to differentiate her expressions, gestures, and actions depending on her scene partners.

 

 

She also spoke about reuniting with actress Park Ji Young, who plays her mother in the drama, after working together on “Revenant,” saying, “During the filming of ‘Revenant,’ I addressed her as ‘sunbae,’ but now I’m happy that I can call her ‘mom’ whenever I want. She’s a senior actress who gives me a lot of guidance on set, so I’m trying to learn as much as I can from her.”

Park Ji Young, Shin Hyun Joon, and Kim Hye Eun have heightened viewers’ anticipation for “Iron Family”!

Park Ji Young stars as Go Bong Hee, a self-sacrificing mother and the daughter-in-law of the Cheongryeom Laundry family. Shin Hyun Joon takes on the role of Ji Seung Don, the chairman of Ji Seung Group, while Kim Hye Eun plays his wife Baek Ji Yeon.

Bong Hee makes a bold proposal to Seung Don, the richest person in the Cheongryeom neighborhood, for the sake of her visually impaired daughter Lee Da Rim (Geum Sae Rok). Seung Don treats Bong Hee coldly, despite her swallowing her pride, and he feels betrayed by his wife Ji Yeon, who deceived him. Viewers’ attention is focused on the tangled relationships between Bong Hee, Seung Don, and Ji Yeon.

Regarding why she chose to star in “Iron Family,” Park Ji Young revealed, “It started with my connection to writer Seo Sook Hyang. I decided to star in the drama because I trust her work. This is my first time working with her on a weekend drama, and it feels both new and exciting.”

 

 

Shin Hyun Joon explained his reason for joining the cast, saying, “I was immediately drawn to the character of Ji Seung Don. I tend to focus on characters when choosing a project, and I was captivated by his charm.”

 

Kim Hye Eun shared an anecdote about writer Seo Sook Hyang, saying, “During our meeting, the writer told me that only I could play Baek Ji Yeon, which was such an honor. KBS2’s upcoming drama “Iron Family” has unveiled an intriguing preview ahead of its premiere!

 

Penned by screenwriter Seo Sook Hyang of “Pasta,” “Don’t Dare to Dream” (also known as “Jealousy Incarnate”), and “Wok of Love,” “Iron Family” is a dark comedy about a family that has run a laundry business for three generations.

 

The newly released video reveals a tangled love quadrangle between Seo Kang Joo (Kim Jung Hyun), Lee Da Rim (Geum Sae Rok), Cha Tae Woong (Choi Tae Joon), and Lee Cha Rim (Yang Hye Ji). The clip begins with Tae Woong asking Da Rim about her relationship with Kang Joo. Da Rim coolly claims that she doesn’t know Kang Joo, ignoring his continued attempts to rekindle their connection by mentioning their time together at a motel. When Kang Joo asks Da Rim whether Tae Woong is her boyfriend, she replies that he is before linking arms with him and walking off.

 

In a surprising twist, however, it is revealed that Tae Woong may have a romantic connection with Da Rim’s sister Cha Rim, who affectionately kisses him on the cheek and describes him by saying, “He is a guy who likes me a lot.”

 

In another storyline, Baek Ji Yeon (Kim Hye Eun) is seen discussing money over the phone with a mysterious man. When questioned by Go Bong Hee (Park Ji Young) about the heavy luggage she’s carrying, which is supposedly filled with cash, Baek Ji Yeon says it is just full of books. It remains to be seen what kind of consequences her lies will bring as the drama unfolds.
