Yoon Joo Won (Jung Chae Yeon)  grew up receiving love from a father who runs a kalguksu (Korean noodle dish) restaurant. No matter what people around her said, Yoon Joo Won considered Kim San Ha and Kang Hae Joon to be family and relied upon them.

 

Kang Hae Joon (Bae Hyun Sung) is adorable and bright like the sun despite facing difficulties at a young age. He sincerely loves and follows Yoon Joo Won and Kim San Ha who took him in like family. In particular, Kang Hae Joon passionately plays basketball in order to repay Yoon Joo Won’s father.

On December 13, it was confirmed that Hwang In Yeop, Jung Chaeyeon, and Bae Hyun Sung will be starring in JTBC’s new drama “Family by Choice” (working title).

“Family by Choice” is a romance story that unfolds as three people, who are not related by blood but spent their teens together while insisting that they are family, reunite after 10 years.

Hwang In Yeop will play the handsome Kim San Ha who doesn’t appear to be lacking in anything. Hwang In Youp will be returning with a new K-drama next year.

On December 13, JTBC announced that the upcoming K-drama A Prefabricated Family will be led by Hwang In Youp, Jung Chae Yeon, and Bae Hyun Sung. 

 A Prefabricated Family will tell the youth romance of men and women who are not blood-related but spent their teenage years together just like a true family. After 10 years, the three will reunite and meet again for the first time. The story will be adapted from the HIT Chinese drama called Go Ahead. 

The upcoming K-drama will be the collaboration work of director Kim Seung Ho (Joseon Attorney: A Morality and Twenty-Five Twenty-One) and writer Hong Si Young.

 A Prefabricated Family will officially premiere on JTBC and it will begin airing in 2024. The K-drama will have a total of 16 episodes. 

 

 

In the K-drama, Hwang In Youp will portray the character named Kim San Ha. Kim San Ha suddenly left his childhood friends and after 10 years, he appears in front of them once again. This will be the comeback K-drama of Hwang In Youp after two years. He last starred in the 2022 K-drama Why Her?

Jung Chae Yeon will give life to the character named Yoon Joo Won. She is known for her positive and bright energy. She grew up with her father who runs a noodle restaurant and treats her friends Kim San Ha and Kang Hae Joon as real family. This will also be the comeback project of Jung Chae Yeon after two years. 

Lastly, Bae Hyun Sung will portray the role of Kang Hae Joon. He treats Yoon Joo Won's family as his own and wants to repay their kindness to him. He is passionate about basketball. Seo Ji Hye will reportedly join the upcoming JTBC K-drama Family by Choice.

On December 19, media outlets reported that Seo Ji Hye will be added to the cast of the Korean version of the hit Chinese drama called Go Ahead. She will possibly work alongside confirmed main leads  Hwang In Youp, Jung Chae Yeon, and Bae Hyun Sung in the upcoming K-drama Family by Choice. 

Seo Ji Hye's side hasn't responded to the casting reports yet. 

Meanwhile, if Seo Ji Hye decides to join Family by Choice, this will be her follow-up project after the 2023 K-drama My Perfect Stranger with Kim Dong Wook, Jin Ki Joo, Lee Won Jung, Lee Ji Hyun, and Lee Kyu Hoe. 

Seo Ji Hye was recently seen in the movie The Wild together with Park Sung Woong, Oh Dae Hwan, Oh Dal Soo, Joo Seok Tae, and Seo Ji Hoo. 

The actress made her name known through the 2017 entertainment program Heart Signal Season 1. In 2018, she started her acting career and became part of the hit K-drama My ID Is Gangnam Beauty. 

Since then, Seo Ji Hye has starred in various K-dramas such as Doo Teob's Pretty Easy School Life, Instant Romance, Mystic Pop-Up Bar, Crime Puzzle, Love All Play, and more.

 

 

Family By Choice will revolve around men and women who are not blood-related but spent their teenage years together just like a true family. After 10 years, the three will reunite and meet again for the first time.

The Korean remake will be the next work of director Kim Seung Ho (Joseon Attorney: A Morality and Twenty-Five Twenty-One) and writer Hong Si Young.

Seo Ji Hye got the offer to play the role of Park Dal. She graduated from the university her mother wanted. She then proceeded to go to law school to pursue her dream of becoming a lawyer.

Family by Choice is a story of three people who, despite being unrelated by blood, used to consider each other family. They reunite after practically living as strangers for 10 years. The K-drama is a remake of the C-drama Go Ahead. 

Hwang In Youp will portray Kim San Ha, a character with good looks and a unique childhood backstory; Jung Chae Yeon will play Yoon Joo Won, Yoon Jung Jae's (Choi Won Young) daughter; and Bae Hyun Sung will transform into Kang Hae Joon, a bright boy who loves basketball.

Choi Won Young comes as Yun Ju Won's father Yoon Yun Jeong Jae, and Choi Moo Sung as Kim San Ha's father Kim Dae Wook.

The stills offer a glimpse of the trio's youth and the two fathers. Despite being unrelated by blood, they care about each other as if they are a real family.

JTBC’s new romance drama “Family By Choice” is gearing up for its premiere!

On August 29, JTBC released photos of the five actors—Hwang In Youp, Jung Chaeyeon, Bae Hyeon Seong, Choi Won Young, and Choi Moo Sung—who will form a new type of family that is closer than a family connected by blood, at the first script reading.

Hwang In Youp portrayed the calm demeanor and emotions of his character Kim San Ha with a low, steady tone of voice. Jung Chaeyeon, who plays Yoon Ju Won, radiated lively energy, while Bae Hyeon Seong brought the cheerful personality of the sportsman Kang Hae Jun to life with a delightful regional dialect.

 

 

Meanwhile, Choi Won Young and Choi Moo Sung, who play the fated partners raising the children together, anchor the drama with their characteristic gravitas. Choi Won Young’s warm gaze toward the three young actors delivering their lines conveyed the tenderness of his character Yoon Jung Jae, a father who understands everything just by looking at his children’s facial expressions. Choi Moo Sung portrayed the inexpressive and stoic father Kim Dae Uk through his calm and composed manner of speaking.

 

 

“Family by Choice” is a romance story that unfolds as three people, who are not related by blood but spent their teens together while insisting that they are family, reunite after 10 years. New Comedy K-Drama "Family by Choice" Reveals Premiere Date

JTBC's Family by Choice, starring Hwang In Youp, Jung Chae Yeon, Bae Hyun Sung, Choi Won Young, and Choi Moo Sung, has confirmed its premiere date for October 9, thereby, will air as a Wednesday drama, airing two episodes on the same day. 

Family by Choice is a story of three people who, despite being unrelated by blood, consider each other family and spend their teenage years together. They reunite after 10 years. The K-drama is a remake of the C-drama Go Ahead. 

The teaser highlights the unique profiles of Yun Ju Won (Jung Chae Yeon), the beloved youngest family member; along with Kim San Ha (Hwang In Youp), Kang Hae Jun (Bae Hyeon Seong), Yun Jeong Jae (Choi Won Young), and Kim Dae Wook (Choi Moo Sung). In the teaser, Yun Ju Won, who had been indecisive about what to name the family's group chat, finally decides on the name "Family by Choice" and adds the members. 

As soon as the chatroom is created, Kim San Ha immediately asks Yun Ju Won if she caused trouble, and Kang Hae Jun questions the reason for setting up the group chat. Yun Jeong Jae and Kim Dae Uk naturally join the conversation, giving a cozy vibe.

JTBC explained the reason for scheduling the drama on Wednesdays: "With the recent rise of OTT platforms, the diversification of program distribution channels, and the shift in viewing habits toward rewatching and binge-watching, the competitiveness of individual programs has become a priority. By scheduling consecutive episodes, we aim to maximize viewer engagement with the drama, establish a lock-in effect to secure a stable viewership base, and strategically leverage this to generate buzz."

Hwang In-yub and Jung Chae-yeon are Family by Choice

Promos are now in full swing for JTBC’s upcoming Family by Choice (previously A Prefabricated Family), with Hwang In-yub (Why Her), Jung Chae-yeon (The Golden Spoon), and Bae Hyun-sung (Miraculous Brothers) headlining the coming-of-age romance. Adapted from the hit Chinese drama Go Ahead, we meet the Korean remake’s characters in the newly dropped first teaser and script reading stills.

Bringing the calm and collected Kim San-ha (Hwang In-yub), bubbly Yoon Joo-won (Jung Chae-yeon), and spirited Kang Hae-joon (Bae Hyun-sung) together under one roof, the story has them living together like real siblings over the course of ten years. But cue the music because ~something~ happens and the next ten years are spent as if they’re strangers, before our found family is reunited.

 

Co-parenting our three young leads, Choi Won-young (Hierarchy) plays noodle restaurant owner Yoon Jung-jae who is doting and affectionate. As the diligent police officer Kim Dae-wook, Choi Moo-sung (Your Honor) is more stoic. But he’s always striving to become a safe shelter for their kids.

In the teaser, we take the view of daughter Joo-won’s phone and we get a sense of the close-knit dynamics as Joo-won initiates a family group chat. Beginning with the message, “Let’s make our last names the same! Certify ourselves as a real family!” she then adds Dad (Choi Won-young), Dae-wook Ajusshi, Kim San-ha, and Kang Hae-joon to join the chat.

It’s a fun detail to see everyone’s profile message match their personalities, with Jung-jae cutely wishing for their family’s good health, while Dae-wook is stilted: “Kangpo police station. Kim Dae-wook. I’m a police sergeant.” It takes Joo-won a few tries to come up with a chatroom name, typing and erasing, “2+3=family” and “special family plus romance,” before settling on our drama’s title in the end.

We then cut to the chatroom, where San-ha teasingly asks, “Yoon Joo-won, did you cause a mess again?” Hae-joon continues the banter, questioning, “Why open a group chat when we live in the same house.” But an unfazed Joo-won tells them both to shush. Although Hae-joon feels a little slighted, wondering why only San-ha gets the oppa tag, Joo-won chooses not to respond and changes the topic: “There’s something I want to say.”

Jung-jae interrupts, though, informing the group, “I brought home beef bone broth that I made at the shop. Come early~” Dae-wook then replies that he’s working late and to eat without him, prompting San-ha to step and remind the family that Joo-won wants to speak. The teaser then closes as Joo-won breaks the fourth wall with her messages, introducing the series and the upcoming premiere.

Helmed by PD Kim Seung-ho (Joseon Attorney, Twenty Five Twenty One) with scripts by Hong Shi-young, JTBC’s Family by Choice will be launching on October 9. Changing up the time slot, the series will also be airing just on Wednesdays with two episodes releasing back-to-back.
