H.O.T. disbanded in May 2001. As the members of H.O.T. neared the end of their contracts with SM Entertainment, it was rumored that financial issues caused the group to split. However, because the real reasons for the breakup were never officially released to the public, rumors about financial contract issues began to circulate, but remain unverified

The group's official disbanded in December 2002 after members Bada and Eugene contract was expiration, though Shoo eventually also parted ways with S.M. Entertainment in 2006. They final release with compilation album Beautiful Songs released in mid-2003, where they last promotion with their last original single "S.II.S (Soul To Soul)", from the greatest hits album Friend.

Shinhwa (1998–2003) Eric Mun, Lee Min-woo, Kim Dong-wan, Shin Hye-sung, Jun Jin, Andy Lee

With the expiration of the group's contract, SM Entertainment offered them a second contract but did not include one member, Dong-wan. Other Shinhwa's members especially the leader, Eric, disagreed and took action to reject it and signed with a new company, Good Entertainment. However, they had to go to court to retain the use of their name, which they won and duly moved from SM Entertainment to Good Entertainment. Because the contract with Good Entertainment did not begin until 2004, Shinhwa members pursued solo activities in 2003.

After Fly to the Sky's contract with SM Entertainment expired in November 2004, the duo signed on with PFull Entertainment. The duo stated that they wanted a smaller label that was willing to promote them as musicians and focus less on commercial success.

M.I.L.K (2001–2003) Seo Hyunjin, Kim Bomi, Bae Yumi, Park Heevon

They disbanded when Bae Yu-mi left the group in 2003. Now each member has gone off to do their own individual projects such as acting, singing, MCing, VJing, and modeling.

Sugar (2001–2006), Ayumi Lee, Lee Ha Rin, Hye Seung, Hwang Jung-eum, Park Soojin

After group's contract with SM Entertainment expired in December 2006, it was announced that Sugar had officially disbanded.[1] All members of the group have since branched into acting and musical efforts.

they have not promoted as a group since SM Town 2006. Several members are active as choreographers and vocal trainers for other SM Entertainment artists. In 2007, lead vocalist Jang Jin-young teamed up with Kim Sung-pil to form the R&B duo, ByJinSung.

Shinvi belonged to Cid.K Entertainment, a subsidiary of SM Entertainment. After only a year of activities, the group disappeared from the music industry and is assumed to have been disbanded.

Jiyeon was involved in SM's project named The Grace, a four-member Korean girl group that sings, dances and acts. Isak was featured in the SM Town albums and videos and continued to do a variety of work, such as being DJ and VJ for Arirang TV, MC work for various networks, and taking on small acting roles on network television
