Yeah. Lmao. I wish I was older while living here cause you can't do much. Hahaha. Don't worry. I'm already pretty corrupt.:sweatingbullets:

I know.. I'm a bad influence on myself.. LOL! I like to gamble so it's fun for me down there. PLUS all the legit Asian food too! I thought about moving down there, but I don't know if that's a smart choice.. -_-

We have casinos here too.. and I do visit them often, but it's not as fun as Vegas. I admit... I do go crazy when I'm down there. I've met a few Thai celebs down there too. I've also met some American celebs too.  I won't name any names... since they like their privacy too. We had fun though. This one Thai celeb guy was sitting at my 3 card poker table and he was speaking Thai to the dealer who was Thai and they didn't catch on that I spoke Thai until it was like 2 hours into the game when the pit boss came over to say hi to me because he remembers me by name and told the dealer to take care of me because I was Thai... OMG! The shock on their faces.

@baw74 is so wonderful and downloading Xvid and also doing another handbrake encoding just to get the subs right.. Hopefully we get this straightened out.

It worked? I was so afraid my link was old by now. Do you need me to screen-shot my Xvid or do you still have it? I'm sooooo grateful to you! Hey, at least you got to watch EP.11 already!! LOL!! :sweatingbullets:

I've been to Vegas twice before but I didn't see any Thai celebrities :tears:

That's so cool though!

Actually wait.. I didn't know any Thai celebrities before this past summer when I watched my first Thai drama so I guess I wouldn't have recognized them if I saw them :sweatingbullets:

Okay, I'm trying the utility that @delightful uses, and it's encoding now. Looks like instead of 8 minutes, this tool will take ~50 minutes.

We'll get it done and re-upped as soon as possible.

Here's a snapshot of the performance monitor on my computer - I have it showing the % Processor Time for each of the 12 cores. Every one of them is being used, so at least the program is multi-threaded. My guess is HandBrake does encoding more efficiently.

Until we get the kinks worked out with HandBrake, at least we have a backup!

I haven't used HandBrake much, but it's my understanding that it doesn't handle the Aegisub format of subtitles natively like XviD does (HandBrake requires that the Aegisub file be muxed  into an MKV container with the video to recognize it unless one is using a third party extension/extender to make HandBrake recognize stand alone Aegisub files) while XviD does so "out of the box." So there could be some issues in how those extenders are reading the subs (or whatever program is being used to mux the subs with the mkv container if you're doing it that way).

I'm also kind of surprised that XviD is taking around 50 minutes on your machine. It takes my computer about the same amount of time to encode an hour long piece of video in XviD (and HandBrake), and as we've discussed, my processor is only a quad core - so it seems as if you're not getting any added benefit from those additional cores when using XvidD (which seems strange to me).

Yeah, I had to use MKVToolNix to mux the subtitle file in with the .mp4 video, use that .mkv output as the source for Handbrake, and then select the embedded Aegis subtitle track, choose burn in, and let'er rip. 8 mins!

The only thing missing from the results is @delightful's watermark from under the LineTV logo.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As for the Xvid slowness - I have to guess it's code efficiency. All cores are pegged!

BTW - I had to get @delightful's version of Xvid (5.0) because I couldn't get the subtitle file recognized in the latest version (7.0)... it's like that ability was removed?

@baw74 and @delightful  I just thought of something else!  Open the Aegisub file in notepad and see if if it has these two lines in the [Script Info] section

PlayResX: ####

PlayResY: ####

Sometimes with Aegisub if you open the subtitle file and then open the video, it encodes the resolution information in the sub file itself which will totally override any typsetting information you have in Aegisub (such as font size and positioning). Removing those 2 lines, if they are there - will set it back to what you intended when in Aegisub.

Yeah, I still use Xvid 5 - I couldn't figure it out in 7 either. .. and if that's all you were missing, then my idea of checking for those 2 lines of code wouldn't have been the issue. . . so yep -     ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ - from me too.

Yeah, they're in there - but set correctly to the vid size (1920x1080)...

I'll play around with this when there aren't so many folks anxiously waiting. ;)

We have to agree to disagree on the above. It was technically butchered in the specific context of that front-perspective crying scene that was present in the official trailer was totally cut-off in the episode.

While you worry about the hard work of the crew,I was obviously more on the disappointments for the actor who had to pull-out some 'unnatural' emotions just deliver what's required, seeing their effort to be acceptable, but only to have it cut in the final product where it should matter. Of course, there bound to lots of cut scenes, but that particular one doesn't deserved the cut as it was effectively used in the official trailer.

Apologies.  This should be my last rejoinder on this matter as  I had pissed lots of 'better-handling' fans already.  Gotta move on to the next cutesy  engagement and more amiable patronage of this indulgence.

I think everyone of us who complained about the editing is disappointed exactly because of this reason...the actor, who mind you is still a rookie, is trying hard to deliver his best for a scene thats an important part of the story.... An actor's job is to express emotions which sometimes he personally may not be comfortable with showing in front of people but as his character demands it he gives it his all...How disappointing it is when the audience doesn't get to see it.

A lot of scenes that were edited were only seconds long and I don't think any one of them deserved the cut.....and mostly each and every one of them shows Kong's feelings.....the cut when he smiles seeing Arthit bump into the door from his balcony....the scene in the bus....this scene now....there were 3-4 cuts in the scene when Arthit stays over in Kong's room.....all with expressions full of feelings from Arthit and Kong.

I think it's better we don't raise our expectation any higher for the bridge and kiss scenes....coz in SOTUS, its seems not only the actors can make us cry with their great talent but the editors can too with theirs....however questionable it may be.

Awwww Miooooo! You're really giving me the SOTUS family feels! I still remember when you joined us back around... was it page 40? You excitedly went back and read through the forum (at the time I was kind of amazed because I thought that was a lot to read... and pffftt now we're on page 500 LOL) and we had so much fun getting to know you and then delightful joined not too long after I think! And then that's when this place really became quite busy!! It was fun back then :) Still is ^^ I love all your posts and your count down clock!

Yeah I guess I say sorry a lot (I've heard that's a Canadian thing? LOL sorry... um o.o :P)... I can't stop myself though from adding that at the end of most of my posts :sweatingbullets::P

Have a good sleep! I hope you have wonderful Sotus dreams! I know I say that a lot even though almost no one seems to have Sotus dreams... well there have been a couple posts on the thread about them... Wait omg I just remembered that a week or so ago Newwie (Em) and Ice (Knot) appeared in one of my dreams and I partially remember it!

*family hugs* :P I think it was page 40 and yes, when I joined I read everything... (Thank God I joined early, think if I joined now, my my... 500 pages to read, that's too much. XD ha ha) I was just thinking yesterday before going to sleep, just how much we grew as a family and how much pages there is now... I just can't believe that I joined you all here in page 40 and here we are now, at page 500 and counting and while I was at it thinking about it, I don't want to make you all sad... but I just can't believe it that we are at episode 11, already and that we have only 5 episodes left, JUST 5. Sotus Saturdays will end soon and I just feel so sad just thinking about it. I'll miss it very much. I'll miss this series, as much as I'll miss all of you here... chatting with you, going crazy over characters and actors... I'll miss everything. gosh :tears: But on the happy note, Puppy Honey should start in January/February, so we won't be all that sad, I just hope most of you will join there.  We can re-watch SOTUS until PH starts and then move there. Diary of Tootsies should start early next year and Advanced Bravely too. So, we will have many BL dramas to go crazy over... still I think SOTUS will be dearly missed.

Ok, from now on when you say sorry... I'll just let it slide, because it's a Canadian thing. :P (I didn't know that!)

You are SO LUCKY, I didn't have any SOTUS dreams. :tears::lol:

*starts to read 6 pages* bear with me....:phew: btw Morning/Afternoon/Night

Just had to add this before I went out to eat... I had tears in my eyes during 2 parts.

When Arthit was describing Kongpope to Namtarn and during the phone confession.

But I started laughing when Arthit told Namtarn that... Here's the translations of that scene..

I have to find Joy a boyfriend. Hashtag, finding a boyfriend for my friend.
Tell me, quickly!
You're in the same faculty.
Where should I start?
[I'm crying now... anyone else?]
Oh, Kongpope likes to drink iced coffee.
And he's the type that likes to wake up very early.
And when he wakes up... he likes to eat soy milk and patongkoh.
He likes to eat the same things all the time.
Oon, that's just during the morning.
He likes to eat food that are bland in flavor.
He can't eat spicy, when he orders food he likes to order egg omelet with ground pork.
Noodles with meatball in soup, he eats VERY BLAND without any flavors.
I've asked him before why he would order egg omelet with ground pork when he could make it himself.
And he said, 'P', I even burn my fried eggs.'
He's such a prince.
And about getting dressed up, he's very slow at getting dressed.
He's spot on from head to toe.
And when he goes somewhere, he can't really go anywhere alone.
When he goes somewhere he always drags his friends along.
That's probably why he loves his friends a lot.
And he likes to act like a hero.
He's always protecting his friends when they were in the cheer room.
All my friends despised him.
And he likes to get on my nerves when he would come to the cheer meetings.
I was so fed up with his face.
Joy liking him is a very bad choice, I'm telling you.
[Crying and laughing at the same time!]
[ So, he can't talk to Kongpope... but he doesn't want anyone touching him?]
Oon, you really don't like him?
That's right! If you knew him you'd have a huge headache.

But everything that you've said, it's not like you don't like him.
It's more like you understand him more than anyone else.

Crazy, it's not like that.
I heard some of it from other people, too.
There's nothing to him...

I am smiling like crazy, you just made me go crazy in the morning... that's not okay. This teddy berry is in love head over heels... just look at him talking about Kong. Only person who's in love can talk like that about the other person. (goes to read it again)

I had a feeling that he would add something like that in a conversation, I even said it yesterday ha ha and now I read this. LOL Arthit...

Well said, Namtarn. Now teddy bear... WAKE UP! it's time to go after Kong... hopefully we won't have to wait much longer. He understands him more than anyone.... ;)

I think some people just decide to translate it as strawberry milk because that's the only equivalent that certain English speaking countries have. It doesn't actually translate to strawberry milk.

Thai pink milk is made with sala syrup. Here this website seems to explain it and show a pic of what sala syrup is: http://www.saveur.com/article/Kitchen/Sweet-Drink-from-Thailand

Here's what Thai pink milk is -->

Hopefully that's all correct. When I first started watching Sotus I asked about pink milk and a Thai person told me it was Hale's sala syrup so I think this information is right.

Dee, you're killing me here with your nerdy ness. :D  I can just imagine you talking and making presentation about Pink Milk and it's origins as well as the differences of Pink Milk in other countries and supporting your arguments with pie charts, diagrams and statistics. The subject matter itself is killing me here. You know why.

I believe that their translator works pretty hard for the international fan these days. Remember that they also have other series line up for the eng sub. (Sotus is only one of the GMMTV's series) And the contract they have with the LINE TV locks these series in for at least a month. (I believe LINE TV is also a company of the Grammy PCL or somehow related) They need to run their business too :) In LINE TV, Sotus gets 1-2 million view counts by average. Quite impressive.

I agree with you Jay. I think they're becoming more aware of how International fans can contribute to their industry and doing everything they can. I LOVE that pic of Arthit although the subject matter had a totally different impact on my head. LOL.

2 hours ago, dreadaeleonkvothe said:

The beach scene seemed pretty similar to the novel to me... I actually had no problems with it other than the lack of shirtless Tiw shown LOL!

I'm pretty sure the entire series has already been edited and put together and they're just airing it now... and he's the director so I don't think he was in charge of the editing. He already apologized for the time that someone else edited out the part with Knot in Arthit's room in episode 6 (and that wasn't even his doing), so I don't think you should be harassing him like that... From what I know Thai people seem so easy going (my Thai friend always says sabai sabai lol) so I wonder how they see international fans sometimes...

I agree with what you said and about Thai people, The few Thai that I knew are very easy going and very nice. But alas, they're not into BL.

Spoiler

I've been reading so many different thoughts with Ep 11. I personally liked it and the only time I truly got frustrated was when Jay forgot their anniversary  (I think that's what it was) because it brought back bad personal memories. I don't think the scenes with Namtarn and Jay are redundant or a waste as some have said but instead I think it was a good insight into who Arthit is and why he is the way he is. He only ever loved Namtarn and he didn't get the chance to confess and that so called love stayed with him thereafter.  He probably doesn't realise yet that he is long over his puppy love and approaching true love and that's why he clings on to the past so much. I also think that the scene is important as it a one of the things that make him realise what a big part of his life Kongpop has become.  It's probably these thoughts that's prompt him to feel lonely and sad when Kongpop does finally treat him like a normal senior.

And the crying scene. Yes they could have edited it better but that doesn't mean they butchered it completely as mentioned so many times.  I feel like that's insulting the hard work of the background crew. Did not one else feel the angst in the scene? because I did. I saw the tears falling down and I heard the haltering breaths. That in itself was enough to have me hug my pillow at 5.30 am in the morning. The morning after is a continuation of Kongpop's pain, especially in the dazed way he walked. As though he wasn't even aware of where he was going and would fall at the slightest touch. We can see it clearly when Arthit is sitting with his friends and Kong walks by. It almost seemed like he had missed a step. It's these tiny things that Arthit will possibly notice and feel the pain he has inflicted, albeit not purposefully, on Kongpop.

And it's ok to be disappointed...but let's not push our disappointment onto someone else. I believe the director has done a brilliant job in making one of the best,  if not the best,  BL series ever. We mustn't hound them so much like this. It's already aired and he can't change anything anyways. Please be more appreciative of their hard work. Bittersweet has written a wonderful book and they are doing their best to make it  into a good series and of course there will be some things that fall short of expectations but that is to be expected.

All in all, good episode in my opinion.

I agree with you with everything you've said. I just wish that the editor took some time and effort, to at least find out about the subject matter of what he/she was going to edit, just to know which scenes are pivotal to the episodes. I'm very disappointed in the editor. But, all in all I'm generally happy with the episode.

I feel for both Arthit and Kong. Arthirt like Knot, has never been in a relationship with a girl, let alone with someone of the same gender and in an Asian culture like ours no less, with all the social taboos and lack of acceptance of such relationships, I'm sure he's finding it harder to cope. It's not easy to be brave and go all out for any relationship, let alone something like theirs.

I LOVE Sotus because of this natural, realistic and and slow pace which is different from other BL series.  I love the characters Bittersweet has created with her imagination. They're lovable and relatable to all of us no matter which country or culture we originated from, as evidenced by the huge number of International fans. I can imagine their story happening in real life. Hence, I'm very grateful to Bittersweet, the Director and Producers for bringing these characters to life in a TV series so that we can enjoy them.

I'm very happy with the way the story is progressing as well, I'm not saying it's perfect, there's room for improvement but it's more than acceptable. If it were like most BL series, in the last episode Kong would have forced Arthit to like him and physically and sexually assaulted him and called it love, which is not true in real life, whether you look at it from legal, social or psychological point of view.

These are the reasons why I love this series. I know we're frustrated sometimes when our expectations are not met and we're so into it that we live and breath for Sotus to the extent that we don't know what we're going to do or how our life will be after the series ends. I think when we're this invested and feel this passionately about something we can easily get frustrated and angry. I think, sometimes it's good to take a step back and let it be before we give in to our emotions and do or say something that we regret and can't take back. That's why I went to sleep last night after watching the episode rather than let it percolate in my brain and get frustrated with the editing. It's not the end of the world, coz there's no Zombie Apocalypse happening. Right? :D

That's my humble opinion anyway. ;)

Yes Arthit, you're not ready to face your feelings for Kong but at the same time you don't want Joy cutting in either. Please get in touch with your feelings soon, poor Kong and been crying and I see you suffering too. @delightful in the novel, did Bittersweet wrote about the Anniversary scene between Namtarn and Jay?

excited for this scene so much their reaction already so nice in the teaser :P

Spoiler

i forgot who preaching but btw just because i complaint about some scene the way it edited doesn't suddenly mean i hate or gonna harassed the staff lol but as viewer it just not possible to be 100% satisfied all the time since that sound more fake to me tbh..it just because they provide some scene in trailer (and yeah those trailer is the one who baited me to watch this drama in 1st place so that mean they doing good job editing those trailer) so it just normal for me to expected the scene i saw in them to be included in actual drama because i thought it already film that way so you can't blame me to get upset when they totally cut that part especially it feel a waste in term of actor effort for filming that part and they cut some important angle...of course im fine with the scene already presented since the acting is super well done and the scene is really good just my greedy self wanting it to be longer at few more second since my emotion already attached to that anticipated scene it just feel such pity that one very good angle of him crying not used...well feel free to disagreed and to each their own..if you think im bad fan just because to have some critic for drama than whatever lol  :P

and im in no way saying that balcony scene is horrible since i have said many time Singto and Krist is amazing in it, it is a beautifully film scene i only have some problem with editing part that is all but overall of course i love that scene just some wishful thinking to want it longer including the few second missing which shown in trailer...well i learn my lesson not to put much expectation for future ep based on the given teaser so i just gonna watch next week with zero expectation for editing but still excited for the spoiler given by delightful :P ok the last time i talk about this issue and let move on

But, in my experience, it doesn't matter if they're set correctly to the vid size or not - it still messes with placement and sizing. When the Aegisub file is saved like that, it also includes Video Zoom Percent and other information in the [Aegisub Project Garbage] section (I'm not sure if other programs take note of this information or not) but the result of having those two lines in the code (even if they are set to the correct video size) is that it impacts/overrides the [v4+styles] information to a certain extent. For example, a line that was set in the style information to be 12pt, ends up being closer to 4pt when read by Xvid (or other directshow filters like DirectVobSub). Taking those two lines out restores the settings as defined in the styles section.

For example, a line that was set in the style information to be 12pt, ends up being closer to 4pt when read by Xvid (or other directshow filters like DirectVobSub). Taking those two lines out restores the settings as defined in the styles section.

Gotcha - yeah I'll try that out then.

Xvid encoding is done - uploading now... the video/subtitles look correct, and @delightful's watermark is there.

Handbrake natively uses .SRT for subtitles, perhaps switching to that would simplify things?

SRT does not allow any positioning or typesetting options - just simple timing and translation abilities (no ability to change colors, ital/bold, or change positioning on screen - like she does with her watermark and notes).

EDIT: And the PlayResX / PlayRes Y settings are the script resolution and apparently what give the virtual rendering resolution for the subtitles (used to interpret positioning and move tags etc.). Without them, it assumes a default value. . so this may not be relevant at all. I just know that when I don't use them, burning it in to the file results in the way I want it to result. But it gets all wonky when I have a sub file, and then open the video (which then puts those settings into the script) and it completely changes the positioning and sizes of the lines. So yeah, I have no idea. . .it may not make a difference depending upon how different software reads them.

excited for this scene so much their reaction already so nice in the teaser :P

i forgot who preaching but btw just because i complaint about some scene the way it edited doesn't suddenly mean i hate or gonna harassed the staff lol but as viewer it just not possible to be 100% satisfied all the time since that sound more fake to me tbh..it just because they provide some scene in trailer (and yeah those trailer is the one who baited me to watch this drama in 1st place so that mean they doing good job editing those trailer) so it just normal for me to expected the scene i saw in them to be included in actual drama because i thought it already film that way so you can't blame me to get upset when they totally cut that part especially it feel a waste in term of actor effort for filming that part and they cut some important angle...of course im fine with the scene already presented since the acting is super well done and the scene is really good just my greedy self wanting it to be longer at few more second since my emotion already attached to that anticipated scene it just feel such pity that one very good angle of him crying not used...well feel free to disagreed and to each their own..if you think im bad fan just because to have some critic for drama than whatever lol  :P

and im in no way saying that balcony scene is horrible since i have said many time Singto and Krist is amazing in it, it is a beautifully film scene i only have some problem with editing part that is all but overall of course i love that scene just some wishful thinking to want it longer including the few second missing which shown in trailer...well i learn my lesson not to put much expectation for future ep based on the given teaser so i just gonna watch next week with zero expectation for editing but still excited for the spoiler given by delightful :P ok the last time i talk about this issue and let move on

I am crying of excitement :bawling:
