Mystery solved!  It was Kang Joo Sun who was behind all these schemes.

He was the one who planted the dead lamb in the king's hall. 
He also made use of the prophecy and borrowed Gai-si and Yi seam's hands to kill the grand prince and the princess.

Gwanghae knew that somebody was behind but could not identify him yet.

Episodes 5 & 6 were really emotional and I confessed I teared up a bit in some scenes, especially scenes of the Queen Mother. I felt her pain as any mothers would and the actress playing her is so beautiful especially in her traditional dress. Can't wait for next week to see the Princess all grown up and of course KJW. C SW as usual is fantastic as GH. I like how his pain is conveyed in his facial expressions!

@valsava.... These court people are full of greed and always get what they want until someone of a great mind can use their manipulation against them. I blame King for making Pgwanghae easy to be manipulated because he was jealous of his own son until turning against him. That is what the king deserved. 

@UnniSarah @valsava I cannnot digest how GH could removed and killed the numerous noblemen who begged Prince Yeongchang to be pardoned. Though he maybe king, GH was isolated and powerless.  Wouldnt the noblemen together with their military fight back?

​Historically, King Gwanghae did a lot of great development for Joseon much more than the kings before him ( except for a few ). But in this drama, at least til this latest episode, I agreed with you that he really looks powerless and isolated to the point that it almost looks like he is the king by name only...

I really want to see him on his feet and govern the country the way a wise king should.

I don't doubt Gai-si's loyalty to Gwanghae. I think she even has feeling for him as a woman to a man.
However, until this episode, there are two foolish puppets who have been used by Kang Joo Sun to kill off Gwanghae's family and to throw all the blame on Gwanghae.

Five Interesting Facts About The Real Life Princess Jungmyung

1.     Princess Jungmyung's father had two queens, Queen Ulin, who had no children, and Queen Inmok, who had the princess and Prince Yeongchang. But he also had six Royal Noble Consorts and three concubines. Altogether he had 25 children, of whom 11 were princesses. The king married Queen Inmok because his first queen did not have any children. So, before the princess was born, Prince Gwanghae, the son of his royal consort was destined to be his heir.

2.     If you were not the heir apparent when it came time to decide on the next king, you were probably in trouble. Talk about dysfunctional family feuds. It can't have been fun growing up in the palace as the other children were your direct competition for survival. And many of the princess'  siblings were decades older. Prince Imhae was 31 when she was born. In real life, Prince Gwanghae was 28 when the princess arrived so the age gap was greater than it is in the drama. In the drama Cha Seung Won, 44, plays the prince. Lee Yeon Hee, who plays the grown-up princess, is 27. Jung Chan Bi, who plays the runaway younger princess, is 13, so that's closer to the true age gap.

3.     Princess Jungmyung was exiled from the palace. She didn't run away. However, she was falsely reported to be dead and then turned up alive.

4.     She did eventually return to the palace. Prince Gwanghae was not very popular, partly due to his progressive views but also because he was the son of a royal consort and not a queen. And many people did not care for the way he treated Queen Inmok and the princess. Once Prince Gwanghae's nephew gathered enough support, he overthrew the prince and became King Injo. Queen Inmok and the princess returned to the palace. History records that she subsequently stayed far away from any political involvement.

5.     After the queen and princess returned to the palace, King Injo, played in the drama by Kim Jae Won, treated them with great respect and listened to the Queen's counsel. However, when King Injo became worried about others plotting against him, it was reported that he suspected the queen and princess of practicing magic to influence policy. But King Injo did a few things that make historians question his mental stability. And the princess lived happily and safely to the old age of 82.

'Splendid Politics' actor Gong Myeong, Princess Jeongmyeong's guard worrior is in hard training

Actor Gong Myeong, who will present the action acting as a guard warrior in "Splendid Politics", is in hard training. Some photos from his tough practices have been revealed.

"Splendid Politics" is MBC's special project produced to celebrate the broadcasting company's 54th anniversary. Actor group, "5urprise" member Gong Myeong is currently in the hard training to practice action acting and horse riding for his role, Ja-gyeong in the drama.

As seen in the photos, Gong Myeong is working hard to practice between action school and race track in order to be able to deliver the perfect action acting. He had started the training three months ago accommodating the classes in between his other schedules. His sincere attitude brings up the level of expectation for his role, Ja-gyeong.

A staff from action acting school said, "He has a great athletic sense propably because he did taekwondo when he was young. He is picking up everything so fast from the basic blade work to the intense action acting. Because he's committed to the learning, I believe he will be able to deliver the great action acting in the drama".

His character Ja-gyeong in "Splendid Politics", is a cynical character, who is full of spite as he has been living as a slave since he was little. However he is devoted to Prince Jeongmyeong (Lee Yeon-hee) only. He is also her closet best friend as well as a guard warrior keeping her safe.

Gong Myeong debuted through "See You After School", 2013 and later appeared in movies including 'If You Were Me 6', "A Girl at My Door", and 'Futureless Things'. He achieved the stardom as a rising star on Chungmuro through the efforts.

​I don't imagine they will spend 25 episodes on her growing old. It's more indicative of the fact she doesn't die young, Interestingly it doesn't mention whether she was married or not. As we've seen from the hints in the earlier episodes, her love life will be a heavy focus.

Thanks for posting the history on Princess JM @MadraRua. I hope the focus of the drama will not be heavily focused on her life outside the palace instead of Prince GH. Historically there's nothing much going on in her life except how she could have survived and I actually ff-ed those parts of her life and what happened at the sulfur mine. I am more interested in what goes on in the palace . And frankly it's hard to imagine Lee YL as Princess JM - someone who has led a harsh and difficult life outside the palace, with her delicate and feminine looks!

I too like the character of Gwanghae. By all accounts he was a good ruler, it's just a shame he was ousted because of politics. They're blending fact with fiction here so how far they'll go with him is up for debate. I hate how he has been manipulated so far. I can't understand how that maid and dodgy minister are still alive. But I suppose they serve the evil factor so no sense getting rid of them too soon. Pity. 

I hope their stint at the sulfur mine is over now with that eruption. They may be able to escape. I'm actually looking forward to seeing them all grown up and returning to Joseon. 

 

  Wickedness Scale

No surprises who the real player is. Level 1 is just a mild player predisposed to manipulation by other influences, he has five stars for brain power but three for cruelty. Level 2 shows Lee Yi-Chum who gets one star for brain power but five for cruelty. Kim Gae-Shi represents level 3 and gets five stars for cruelty and five for brain power. She murdered to cover her tracks plus it takes careful planning to poison someone slowly over a number of years. She is also capable of manipulating those around her, specifically two Kings.
