sorry to anyone who is wasian; but i hate them soo much.

some of my friend's [ she's korean ] friends say they always wish they were korean because they're hot and look like they live such a cool life.

its annoyingg , why can't they just like who they are and they're ethnicity :T i mean, it might've been a joke at first but lately ...

IMO I think some of the stereotypically called wasians/wapanese etc. are having identity crisis. =/ Maybe not to that extreme but...

Maybe they don't know their own culture or think there's nothing cool about their culture. Or they just don't like SOMETHING of their own culture. That or they live a rich culture already that they got bored? I don't know. Just maybe.

I kind of had that phase, it didn't last long. I knew someone who was like that and it bugged the crap out of me.

I took interest and was serious enough to take Japanese lessons, about 2 years worth and continuing.

I guess the only thing we don't like it is when people are very shove-in-your-face/vocal/proud? people who do it. And also do a crappy try hard job of imitating it that they 'fail' and make it look like crap altogether? =/

For anime though, I think its a medium to get away from always on the go, stressful way of life in Japan. Same for everywhere I'd think.

What do you guys think about Asians trying to be other Asian races, such as Chinese or Filipino people trying to be Korean or Japanese?

In what way? Like trying to dress like them or denying their heritage and claiming themselves to be Korean or Japanese?

Uuum, its a hard one, because there are so many Asians wanting to be Western.

Are you talking about Asians wanting to be caucasians? How do you get the idea that Asians have surgery to make their eyes bigger because they want to look white? Some Asians already have big eyes. I would think that the reason some would make their eyes bigger is because they want to look like them, asians with big eyes.

I think this is a pretty stupid thread as lots of people want to be different things.

I don't think anyone wants to BE asian, maybe just like the Asian way of life.

I agree I dont like this thread either. The term "wannabe asians" and even "white washed asians" sound stupid. It's hurful because many people dont want to label with these names.

& its also rather hypocritical, because some of the things that asians take for granted,

(i don't know if you're asian), all originated in western countries.

So its not really fair to talk about people trying to be Asian, because its all part of the cycle.

Can you please tell me what are the things that asians take for granted that are all originated from "western" countries? I kind of curious.

Their was this guy in the metro and he was speaking Chinese the elderly and I thought it was pretty cool, he said he likes to eat Chinese food and knows some Chinese. One of the Elders knew english so they had a whole conversation about it then he got off to go the Chinese super market. I actually thought it was cool, he was into the culture but not in a obsessive way

Wannabe Asians are attention seeking people, or retards in other words.

What is so special about being Asian? Yes, you get tiny lines as eyes and you can run around saying Hurdy Gurdy Hippity Ga-Ga Boo-Boo without anyone looking weird at you. But it's in their nature.

erm i think the whole eating pocky, watching anime, spurting sugoi! kawaii! IS wasian. they're imitating a lifestyle that they think is japanese..a very immature mindset that they pick up through anime or some other mainstream export.

you cant compare wasians to white-washed asians. for one, they are asian-americans so its expected and favorable to adopt the culture to fit in.

And speaking of such... it annoys me when there are kids who are half or even less than that and they refuse to acknowledge anything but that particular percentage... like this one girl I know who is half Caucasian and half Hispanic, but she flat-out refuses to acknowledge her white side. As far as she's concerned, she is full Hispanic and will throw a tantrum if the fact that she's only half is ever brought into question. There is nothing wrong with taking pride in her Hispanic side, but she takes it a little too far.

Anyway, wannabe Asians tend to strike a nerve with me. Mainly because I have rarely had any sort of positive experiences with them.

Maybe she had ISSUES with her white side of the family. Being half, you can choose pretty much which side you wish to go.

Holy cow. I'd never heard of Wasians before.

I'm not Asian. I don't want to be Asian. I'm half white, half hispanic.

But I really enjoy watching Korean dramas. My dad found Dae Jang Geum at the library one day, wondered what it was, and a few DVDs later, I was hooked. So I download them when I can and follow my favorite actors to see when they'll be in a new show, etc. I'm currently learning Japanese because I would love to move to Japan and study ancient architecture, because I'm currently pursuing a degree in arch. already in the good ol' US of A. I listen to J-Pop, C-Pop, and K-Pop because I believe music has no language limitations. I enjoy visiting the local Asian groceries around my house, because there's a huge Vietnamese population in a nearby neighborhood. I like eating at Asian restaurants because I find the food delicious. My best friend is Japanese American and has been since we were in 5th grade. I befriended an older Korean woman in one of my classes and looked up how to say "good morning" to her in Korean, because she doesn't speak English very well and often is by herself in the back of the classroom. I read manga, if I can find one I'm interested in, but I'm not a huge fan. I love Soompi and often visit whenever I have nothing else to do.

I hope I'm not Wasian.

I'm proud of my heritage. But I also find other cultures interesting. I love to study Asian culture especially but I dont try to force my interests on my friends. I did lend one of my best friends (who's white) a copy of Hana Yori Dango and she loved it, even though she later made fun of me and told me I have an "Asian fetish".

I don't think I do. But maybe you guys would think so.

Oh well. At least I don't take pictures of myself making the peace sign and that wierd "chuu" looking thing with my mouth.

Wouldn`t really think anything of someone who likes Asian things when they`re not.

But when they get really over obbsessive about everything, then I guess it`ll get onto my nerves. @_@

I think it's cool that there's people who are interested in Asian culture although it is a shame if they try to deny who they are, if they pretend to be Asian when they're not. Nobody should do that IMHO.

Waaah, it's so annoying when my friends go all giddy when they have a Japanese friend or when they have anything Japanese... T_T;; They're even mixing random Japanese words into the sentences. Argh. (and pronouncing them wrong <___________< )
