what happens AFTER the perm?

from wavy to straight to wavy :D
hi all,

i've been searching around google and soompi for answers but no one seems to have this problem.

i'm half chinese, half persian, but i get my dad's wavy hair. as i grew up, my hair began to straighten out into little waves randomly.

idiotically, i got a perm when i was in 6th grade (yes, i'm young :/) and it was...not my best idea. i didn't look awful, but i wasn't sure if i liked it.

the perm wore off and my hair turned wavy again, like it was when i was little.

in january 2009 i got another perm which totally pinned down my hair and i hated it so much!

it wore off in around august, and after i just began to straighten it.

i was looking through some pictures of when i was in 4th grade and i really miss how my hair used to be, and i'm trying to lay off my hair straightener and blow drier so my hair won't become damaged and frizzy (although it doesn't get frizzy if i straighten it...)

what is the best shampoo, conditioner, treatment that i can get to make my hair normal?

if i don't do anything to my hair after i get out of the shower, it curls near my ears and back of my neck completely and then it is really straight on the top layer, and it looks icky.

here are some pictures:

after the 2nd perm wore off, if i straighten it...

this is how it looks if i dont straighten the insides. and the back is like this but a layer of straight hair on top..

this is how it looked in 4th grade (big picture) and 6th grade before the perm (small picture)

what can i do?

and please don't yell at me if this has been posted before!! kindly redirect me XD

Well no product can bring hair back to its original state before the perm. Just wait for it to grow out. Or if you want, get a body (or something, not too good with the types of perms) perm to curl your hair a little so it doesn't look so awkward.

Also, I love how your hair has the volume~ :)

Instead of straightening, like the person above posted

why don't you slightly curl your hair to make waves?

But you are pretty young, so you should probably just wait for your perm to grow out..

Off topic: my cousin is EXACTLY the same as you, she's 1/2 persian(dad) 1/2 chinese(mother)

but she didn't straighten her hair. and compared to yours, her hair is crazzyyy wavy.

But it looks really nice on her :)

She always makes fun of her "lion's mane" lol

only way you can get your original hair back is to wait for it to grow.

but then again, after i rebonded my hair it never grew out the same way again lol.

i pretty much have the small problem as you. my hair is especially wavy at the roots and my hair is SO poofy and frizzy now. seriously if i don't tie my hair when my hair is wet, it seriously looks like a lion's mane. i never realized what people meant until i started letting my hair heal and not do anything to it. i've done both mostly doing magic straight perms (which did make my hair pin straight but made me look like an egg head) and did a wavy perm a year or two ago. in the end they both really damage your hair when you do them for so many years. i think you should give your hair a little bit of time to heal, because when you continue to do perms, blow dry, iron your hair it becomes extremely damaged. after a bit, you can go back to doing what you want with your hair. mine was so damaged that my stylist was like "uhh your hair is so damaged that it might not be a good idea to do this."

also, i do consider you doing a wavy perm style wise, but it depends on the length of your hair. if your hair is at shoulder length straight, it'll look REALLY awkward and weird when your hair becomes wavy. when you do a wavy perm, your hair length shortens when your hair becomes wavy (i hope you get the concept?) so if you're going to do a wavy perm, wait until your hair length grows out until the length of your hair passes your shoulder. the longer the better, but in my opinion i don't think your hair length should pass your elbow. that's too long to me. also if you do a wavy perm, decide on how big you want the curls (there are the tiny ones, medium size, big, etc.) once it reaches the right length, i start the wavy perm around the around the cheek area (look here). you definitely don't want to do the top anyways, since your hair is waviest there correct?

i'm not sure myself what to do, because whatever i do to style my hair damages my hair a lot. i'm going to a master stylist some time to get an opinion on what to do with my hair.

^^ thanks!! that is really helpful to me, and i'm going to not use any blow drier, irons or anything other than a serum for a while.

i was considering medium wavy perms like the picture you put.

my hair goes all the way down to my...mid back? it's very long :D so i think it'd look ok?

does anyone know if a hot oil treatment will help? i asked my mom what to do and she said i could do that (my mom has done it before...)
