I already found out what it is , here you go:

“Most noteworthy unit ranking”

The music site BIGLOBE released a “BIGLOBE MUSIC” K-POP special which announced a popular K-POP artist ranking. This ranking was started on August 12, 2010 and the results are based off of the votes from the users of the BIGLOBE site.

”BIGLOBE MUSIC” Popular K-POP Unite Ranking (Survey period: 2010/8/12 10 o’clock~ 8/16 10 o’clock)

1st: SNSD (20,212 votes)

2nd: Wonder Girls (9,598 votes)

3rd: SUPER JUNIOR (1,717 votes)

4th: SHINee (944 votes)

5th: BEAST (417 votes)

6th: BIGBANG (364 votes)

7th: f(x) (351 votes)

8th: KARA (313 votes)

9th: 4Minute (289 Votes)

10th: BROWN EYED GIRLS (254 votes)

here is the original link: http://music.biglobe...-pop/index.html

Votes Cast: 33,090 votes

Voter attribute: Sex- Males 47.2% Females- 52.8% Average age: 22.6 years old

Therefore, the girls definitely win over Big Bang without making any debut in Japan yet, woa, AMAZING !!

To be honest, I don't even think this noteworthy. Big Bang ranking that low when they are that successful in Japan. I think most of the votes are from Korean SONEs. You know how they are.

oh no.. the album's been delayed again?? Are they facing some distribution issues in the U.S that their album is being delayed time again and again? I really hope not. It's sad that the girls are so hard-working and yet only have few old songs to share with us.

Here is the 'Happy Camp' archive website: http://www.imgo.tv/w...Id=1&fstlvlId=1

HunanTV apparently uploads all its variety shows online, & I am talking about hour-long clips here.

Good quality video too.

No promises, but it looks promising that they will do the same with the WG episode.

(I see they have added the WG episode trailer.)

They also have web streaming (top right '直播' menu bar button), but it requires pre-downloading of their media player on a IE browser (ala Mnet's). Haven't tested this.

Vive la difference! A global idol culture

Producers recruit foreign musicians to widen appeal

JoongAng Daily August 19, 2010

Victoria, a 23-year-old member of the up-and-coming idol girl group f(X), looks like just another beautiful, bubbly Korean entertainer. She spent three years in training at SM Entertainment, speaks fluent Korean and loves to gorge on local delicacies like samgyeopsal pork belly.

A closer look, however, reveals that Victoria’s a little different - she’s actually from Beijing. She has difficulty pronouncing double consonants and sometimes misunderstands interview questions, as she did in a recent interview with the JoongAng Daily.

Asked about her favorite music genre, Victoria said, “I love Lee Hyo-ri.” At that, Luna, another member of f(X), leaned over and whispered in Victoria’s ear and said, “She wants to know your favorite music, not musician.”

The role of interpreter is familiar to f(X) members Luna, Krystal and Sulli, who are often called upon to help the two non-Korean members of the group, Victoria and Amber, who is Taiwanese-American and couldn’t attend the interview as she was visiting her parents in the United States.

“They speak good Korean, but we sometimes have to explain in easy and simple words when we do interviews,” said Luna, looking at Victoria with a grin on her face. But in all seriousness, the 17-year-old added, “Since our goal is to become the best dance group in Asia, I believe that diversity helps us achieve that.”

Since debuting in November last year, f(X) has already topped numerous charts and appeared in many TV commercials. It seems their nationalities do not matter to their Korean fans. On the contrary, having a non-Korean member has become the latest trend as K-pop aims for a bigger share of the Asian music market.

“We think of Asia as one single market,” said Kim Eun-a, head of the public relations team at SM Entertainment.

SM is the biggest entertainment agency in Korea by market value, earning 61.7 billion won ($56.1 million) in sales last year. SM was also the first local entertainment company to introduce an idol training system back in the late 1990s. After picking its trainees, SM spends up to 10 years nurturing a single idol. From vocals to foreign language skills, SM is involved in every part of the process.

Since 2006, the firm has held “global auditions” to find talented young people in Asia and North America. Before those events, some entertainment companies including SM hired Japanese-Koreans or taught Korean singers Japanese or Chinese to help them succeed in those two countries. But the industry has greater ambitions these days. Today, SM holds global auditions in as many as 15 countries including China, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, Canada and the United States.

Victoria and Amber are products of that system. Putting them on f(X) was a move inspired by the success SM had with Han Geng, a former member of idol group Super Junior. Because of his Chinese background, Han Geng helped Super Junior gain acceptance in China, opening up a whole new fanbase.

“When f(X) advances into China later, we believe Chinese will feel friendly towards f(X) because this group has a Chinese member,” Kim explained.

Of the many other non-Korean idols, perhaps none is more beloved than Nichkhun, a member of 2PM. Born in the United States to Thai parents, Nichkhun has become an A-list star here. His fluency in Korean, English and Thai also helps when his group performs outside Korea. JYP Entertainment, 2PM’s management company and SM’s rival, also holds global auditions.

“We don’t care about nationality because we want to go beyond the Korean music market. This is Park Jin-young’s philosophy,” said Jeong Su-jeong, an official at JYP, referring to the founder and CEO whose initials are used in the company’s name.

Still, without any foreign members, the JYP idol group Wonder Girls broke into the U.S. market with their song “Nobody,” reaching No. 76 on the Billboard charts in October last year. It was the first time a Korean group had made the top 100.

Park has also worked with Hollywood actor and rapper Will Smith, and is currently working on more multicultural idol groups. His most recent product is miss A, a quartet featuring two Chinese, Fei and Jia; a Korean-American, Min; and just one Korean, Suzy. The group made its first appearance earlier last month to an excellent public response.

The last of the big three entertainment companies, YG Entertainment, has lagged behind in recruiting non-Korean idols, but it recently held its first global audition.

“Without much marketing in Asian countries, we saw some of our singers and their songs became big hits due to video sharing Web sites,” said Hwang Min-hee, a YG official. “Korean music gained many international followers with the help of the Internet, and we came to the conclusion that we don’t need to stick to finding talent in Korea.”

Other minor entertainment agencies also bring talents from overseas. Alexander from idol group U-Kiss is the son of a Hong Kong father and a Korean mother.

Professor Lee Dong-yeun at the Korea National University of Arts believes this is a lasting shift in Korean pop culture. “Korea’s idol producing system is most advanced in Asia,” he said. Lee is involved in publishing a book of research into Korea’s unique pop idol culture set to be published in December.

“Entertainment agencies, of course, want to explore new markets, but Korean idol music itself has nothing to do with nationality, meaning anyone can listen to it and enjoy it,” Lee continued.

“In that sense, this trend will open a new chapter in the future of the K-pop music scene.”

SM Entertainment Artists Dominate In Album Sales

KBS World 2010-08-18

As if the company needed any more evidence to prove itself as one of the top entertainment agencies in Korea, a report was recently released showing just how much SM Entertainment dominates the kpop industry.?Hanteo, a website the keeps track of domestic album sales, released a report on August 18th, showing that SM artists took the top seven spots when it came to total album sales from January 1 to August 17, 2010.?

Super Junior, a group that has already proved itself in being a sure album-seller took the number one spot with their Fourth Album, version A. After having been released this past May, the album -- which contains their hit title song "Bonamana" -- has sold 122,232 copies.

Second place went to the nine-membered girl group, Girls Generation. Their second album, featuring the hit song "Oh!", boasted 118,644 in album sales. Third place was taken by another SM boy group, SHINee. SHINee made their comeback just this past July giving their second album only a few weeks of circulation time before this report was released. However, those few weeks were enough as they sold 52,398 copies of "Lucifer-Type A" featuring the catchy tune "Lucifer".

The SM domination doesn't stop there. Asia's Star made her long awaited comeback in Korea after five long years. Having released her sixth album "Hurricane Venus" on August 2nd, BoA ranked sixth in album sales with a total of 44,745 copies sold to date.

You may be wondering, so who took 4th, 5th, and 7th place? It was the same artists that took 1st and 2nd place: Super Junior and Girls Generation. "Oh!" the repackaged album sold 51,269 copies clinching the fourth spot, while Super Junior's Fourth Album, version B sold 47,628 copies which was enough to place fifth. As for the seventh spot, it was once again Super Junior with their Repackaged Fourth Album which saw 40,791 copies be sold.?Filling up the remaining three slots in the top 10 were non-SM artists Jay Park, 2AM, and Rain placing 8th, 9th, and 10th respectively.

SM has seen much success in 2010, bringing in 47.5 billion won in sales for the first half of the year. This is a 59% increase from the same period last year. Operating profits also went up, recording 18.6 billion won which is a 385% increase from the same period last year. All combined, net profits stood at 17.6 billion won.

One thing to note though is that the two companies strong enough to compete with SM didn't put their best foot forward for the earlier half of 2010. JYP Entertainment, home to the Wonder Girls, 2PM, and 2AM focused on US activities. The Wonder Girls cut their promotion time for "2 Different Tears" short to focus back on tackling the US market. 2PM and 2AM were also absent from the country for a few weeks out of the year to tour as the girls' opening acts. As for YG Entertainment, although we did see the comeback of some of their star solo artists (think Se7en and Gummy), their real ace-players were M.I.A. Idol groups Big Bang and 2NE1 didn't release any albums this year, although recent reports have indicated that this will soon be changing. 2NE1 is set to make a comeback in September.

We'll have to keep watch and see if YG, or any other company for that matter, has what it takes to turn these rankings around in their favor by the end of 2010.

Doesn't look like Taiwan will see a WG public fanmeet.

But Sony Ericsson is conducting a quickie Facebook contest, with promises of a pre-show WG meet-&-greet (the VIP passes kind). Dunno if they are involved with the Mnet Ultimate concert, otherwise.

This Universal Music Asia-Pacific blog mentions WG has a packed "concert promotion" schedule (literally translated), but did not elaborate further.

WONDERGIRLS, 2PM, MBLAQ will arrive in Taiwan first on August 19 to meet the fans

[in response to] enthusiastic feedback support for 'Mnet Ultimate', MBLAQ will hold an autograph session.

This summer's largest Hallyu event is hitting Taiwan. Korean super groups WONDERGIRLS, 2PM & MBLAQ will take the Korean Air KE691 flight on 8/19 (today). They are due to land at Taoyuan International Airport at 12:05pm. Korean music godfather JYP & MISS A will take the Asiana Airlines OZ711 flight tomorrow (August 20). They are expected to arrive at 2:25pm, then head straight to a press conference. Besides the already-announced 2PM autograph session, MBLAQ has also agreed to hold one when they reach Taiwan. Their autograph session will be at Y17 Taipei City Youth Recreation Center on August 19 (today) 6:30pm. To thank the fans for their enthusiastic support for the 'Mnet Ultimate' concert, the 2 idol autograph sessions & the flight details [are provided] so as to let the fans make their star-chasing arrangements.

This unprecedented, 5-performer mega concert, transportation & various other preparations made the event organizer fret a lot. MBLAQ & 2PM are making their first trip to Taiwan. They did not make any special requests except for expressing a desire to taste Taiwanese dishes. WONDERGIRLS, who was here in April for promotions, reminisced about the steamed dumplings. But they may not get to fulfill their wishes due to a packed schedule. However, the event organizer has already prepared pineapple pastries & bubble tea, which the girls loved last time around, as a welcoming call. On the day after tomorrow (August 21), WONDERGIRLS will present their quintessential American tour performance for the Taiwanese fans. Here's hoping everybody can be there to [experience] 'Nobody' with them!

Details of the autograph sessions are gradually being ascertained. The full info will be posted at the concert's Facebook fan section http://www.facebook.com/koreanfever

At least this news report isn't confused.

A rival Taiwan source mistakenly said Orange Caramel, who are already in Taiwan, is part of the Mnet Ultimate concert bill & had even rehearsed a Mandopop song cover.

Korean wave hits Taiwan, spearheaded by Orange Caramel

Reporter Lin Xiaojuan / Taipei report

The Korean wave sweeps into town this week. No less than 5 Korean idol groups are visiting Taiwan, causing Kpop fans to throng the airport to greet them.

The sweet-looking Orange Caramel had become a talking point after releasing their single 'Magic Girl'. The other day, 2PM had cross-dressed to perform the girls' cute dance at their concert, causing SUPERJUNIOR's Heechul to lament: "We also wanted to imitate Orange Caramel onstage, but they beat us to the punch."

Orange Caramel's arrival in Taiwan yesterday was met by several hundred fans. The girls received fan gifts on the way out, happily saying: "Taiwanese fans are so enthusiastic." Fulfilling their wishes, they also got to sample some delicious steamed dumplings.

Separately, for August 21's 'Mnet Ultimate Live in Taiwan' concert, WONDERGIRLS, 2PM & MBLAQ are flying in on August 19 via Korean Air KE691. Music godather JYP & his touted new group MISS A will arrive on August 20.

Among these, 2PM is slated to hold an autograph session on August 20 afternoon at the Taipei Youth Recreation Center. The fans can gain entry with either their concert tickets or 2PM's Taiwan-edition albums. Please see the concert's Facebook fan section for more info.

WONDERGIRLS reveals updated photos, their leaner bodies causing the fans much heartache

2010-08-17 Wednesday 14:58

Girl group WONDERGIRLS revealed their members' updated appearances.

Recently, various major Korean websites published several updated photos of WONDERFIRLS from their American tour. In the pictures, they were wearing black miniskirts & thick eye makeup, making them appear especially sensual. Per their busy itinerary, several of them seemed to have leaner bodies & also looked increasingly mature. Netizens who saw the photos left comments: "They are looking more & more beautiful." "Although they have become prettier, it seems like they are also a little thinner, it aches my heart." etc. [TV DAILY reporter Kim Tianjing]

I read on the WGTW board, as well as on Twitter, that WG will be on Ken Wu's 吳建恆 Happy E Century 娱乐E世代 radio program tonight (8/19, 10pm).

They had worked together back in April, on his radio show as well as for MTV Taiwan's 'Crazy Over JKpop' show.

2hh3qzc.jpg

30161110093885700018107.jpg

2PM is due to follow WG on the radio program at 11pm.

There is supposedly also an announcement of a "12th" guest. Dunno if this is merely a slip of the tongue.

Some Taiwan WFs speculated this to be JYP, but then he won't fly in until the next afternoon (8/20).

Apple Daily news video, in Cantonese.

Quick summary: South Korea uses Kpop (like WG) as psyops, but North Korea youths are already converted (via China pirated access), despite punishments from the military regime.

I just got the news that Wonder Girls aren't dropping an album until JANUARY and it's not a Korean one either TT.TT I'm honestly so sad right now! I was so looking forward to a Korean comeback in 2011 >.< I really hope they drop a Korean single or mini album in between now and January though...JYPE should know that they have to release something to keep their status...I hope D:
