Guest hurley
this drama is far more interesting than i originally anticipated! i normally stay away from k historical dramas for several reasons, but have changed my opinions on this series after viewing the first episode! in particular, i enjoy the little Deok Man, and of course the superb performances by those pro actors/actresses, esp Go Hyun Jung, who plays mi shil. Guest hjkomo
My favorite scenes... Thanks, Luv! That was a great scene. So sad today with Sohwa and Yong Su's deaths. Need clarification. So, 성골 means both parents are also 성골, not just of royal blood? Since Yong Su is 진골, Chun Chu is also 진골? But after the deaths of Jin Pyeong's sons, were there any other 성골? If not, how could the Council protest Jin Pyeong naming Yong Su as his successor? What is Mishil?

If not, how could the Council protest Jin Pyeong naming Yong Su as his successor? What is Mishil? I am sure Anarchist knows better, but my recollection is that 성골 means both sides of the parents are royalty, whereas 진골 means only one side is royalty. Choon-choo was 성골 in real-life, I believe, because both his mother and his father were royals; nonetheless, he is portrayed as 진골 in the drama, because his father had lost his 성골 status due to Mi-shil's machinations. Guest dramaok
i think mishil is a mutt. her father was general and mom is king jinheung's father's concubine. but today's ep.. err where's chilsook? TNS ep. 5 [nationwide]: 21.6% [- 0.7% from ep. 4]
Guest MisterX
check the Ep. 3-4 review for 성골/진골 explanations. Mishil is not even 진골 (Hell, she's just a fabrication of Park Chang-Hwa, if you really want to get pedantic ㅋㅋ)

Guest hjkomo
Hey, mandalaywith! i think mishil is a mutt. but today's ep.. err where's chilsook? He did have that stab wound (even though he was running surprisingly fast after Sohwa), but he must've survived the sandstorm and will turn up soon (tomorrow? next week?) Even though he's not going to, I wish he would turn good, too. check the Ep. 3-4 review for 성골/진골 explanations. I guess what confused me was - From Ep. 3-4 Review: "sacred bone meant an offspring born out of two royal family members' union" and Basically, before Seondeok's reign, no 진골 (so true bone, with only one of the parents being of 성골/sacred bone, the other not) was allowed to be crowned king, but since by Seondeok's time there were no men of sacred bone left, they changed the policy. Hence the 성골남진. The real interesting thing is what the division meant itself. That is, what constituted as sacred bone or true bone lineage, but that.... uhh... is stuff I guess I'll tackle in one of my episode reviews. ㅋㅋ

Guest MisterX
Hey, mandalaywith! I guess what confused me was - From Ep. 3-4 Review: "sacred bone meant an offspring born out of two royal family members' union" and that's just one of the 4 theories I explained. 1) royals (성골) vs non royals (진골) 2) matrilineal descendant of King Beopheung's mother (성골) vs the rest (진골) 3) Direct descendants of King Jinheung (성골) vs indirect (진골) 4) Politically fit to ascend the throne (성골) vs 정치적 진따 (진골) It's likely Miss Kim is using No. 3 here. Set the 4 theories aside, the common thread if essentially... sacred bone + sacred bone = sacred bone sacred bone + true bone = true bone true bone + true bone = 아웃 오브 안중 이래서 사극은 아무나 쓰는게 아닌거지. ㅋㅋ
Guest hjkomo
^ Thanks. Crystal clear now. But with no sacred bone contenders left... why was the Council so against Yong Su as successor (aside from the obvious)? It's not like they had their own candidate for the throne...and none of Mishil's sons would be acceptable choices, either. By their reasoning, Mishil the Mutt would be true bone (was Jinheung's father her father? ) or "아웃 오브 안중".

Council = 미실 똘마니, only Eunje is the party pooper But if you see Mishil on Episode 5, she says 용수 becoming 태자 can only be a positive predicament for them. Why? 'Cause if the 성골 glass ceiling is broken, HER 진골 son (potential one with the King, that is) could become 태자 as well (since she knows someone is croaking, soon). Bingo.
