Let’s deconstruct the TV show listing below so that we know what we’re dealing with, shall we?

When you see 레인이펙트 (pronounced lein-ee-peg-teu), that is Rain Effect. In this case, both of the words “rain” and “effect” have been adopted straight from English and spelled out phonetically in Hangeul. (There is no “f” sound that I know of in the Korean language, and so a “p” sound is used in place of that (ㅍ). And there is no straight “r” sound, rather an “l/r/d” sound instead (ㄹ) depending on the word.) I find it most interesting that they are using the English word “Rain” instead of calling it 비이펙트 (Bi Effect), because that means the Powers That Be absolutely do understand the power of an English play on words. Nice!

And so, from this Korea TV listing from Mnet, we can deduce that Rain Effect will be premiering overseas on both Mnet Korea (in High Def) and its sister channel KM (not in High Def), on cable TV and on SkyLife satellite, on Thursday 12/19 at 11 PM. The premiere episode will repeat on Friday the 20th at 12 noon and at 8 PM on Mnet Korea, and also on Saturday the 21st at 12:30 AM, 11:30 AM, 5:30 PM, and 11 PM. All episodes are recommended for ages 15 and older.

Oh, how we envy you lucky ducks in South Korea!^^ But, hopefully, we’ll have our own reason to celebrate not long after the Korean premiere.

We wish to inform all clouds about the following:
As we are about to start recruitment of 9th Cloud, we want to inform you about the changes in the system of the fan club. 

The key points are listed below with additional explanation as necessary.  Please read this carefully and we hope to have your understanding on the changes.

 

Existing 8th Cloud benefits (contents as listed in the notice of 8th Cloud recruitment)
1.Provision of official fan club membership card.
2.Priority application for fan meeting and admission
3.Upgrade to full regular member at the Cloud official fan site with provision of differentiated information.
4.Priority entrance at public broadcast program (as agreed with the organizer)
5.Benefit of fan club seats at concerts etc.

The differences in fan club benefits on the forthcoming 9th Cloud as compared to 8th Cloud:

Explanation regarding the difference in the benefits for 9th Cloud..
1.Change of structure from Executive to Supporters
-As we all know there had been situations when nobody volunteered to be an Executive. Our judgement is that even with 1 or 2 Executives, they cannot conduct their duties smoothly without the help of supporters. 

That’s why we change the structure to supporters based.
2.Cheaper membership fee. 3. Provision of official fan club membership card only
-The major expenses of the existing fan club membership fee can be divided into the following: fan meeting, fan club souvenirs, shipping of fan club souvenirs, support and gifts for Rain. 

Unexpectedly the shipping of fan club souvenirs occupied a big portion of the expenses.  In the case of overseas fans, the cost of shipping is even greater than the cost of the souvenirs themselves. 

As such, the membership fee becomes high (especially to overseas fans).  Fans will either think twice in joining or simply give up.

We also consider whether we should conduct a fan club without membership fee, but that will mean we don’t even have a very basic means of differentiating members. 

Not only is it hard for clouds to build their trust with each other, it is also impossible to plan any activity.  Therefore we decide on the following change. 

The membership fee will be cheaper than the existing fee. (The exact amount will be discussed).  When fans join the fan club as paid members, they can upgrade as full members at the official website, and membership cards will be sent to them as identity. 

We will not provide cloud souvenirs but we plan to offer a variety of fan club goods for sale via the official website.  This means we will reduce the burden of joining fees and the operational funds of the Cloud will also be reduced.

The relevant internal expenses on the purchase of cloud souvenirs, the attendance of fan meeting, and external expense on donations in the name of the Cloud will be allocated back to individuals.  This is the change we plan to make.

4.Paid entrance fee for fan meeting
In the same context as 2 and 3 above, we will change free admission of fan meeting to paid admission for future fan meetings.

5.No guarantee on fan club seats for paid concerts
There will be no guarantee on designated fan club seats for paid concerts. It is not too much to say that priority application for fan club seats at paid concerts would have the greatest impact in deciding whether to join a fan club and would be considered as the greatest benefit.
The fan club, through the company, has always obtained good designated seats for the Cloud members to enable them to see Rain closely. 

One of the reasons for such good fan clubs seats to come by is that externally it is seen as a benefit for fan club member, but internally to the seller (and the organizer) it means even though they are the most expensive seats,

many seats can be sold easily without hassle within a short period of time.  This is one of the main reasons for fan club seats to come by.

It’s a pity that recently we see that the sale of fan club seats has reduced significantly and the process proved to be very cumbersome (telephone protests about the position of fan club seats during the nationwide concert tour before enlistment etc.) 

The reality is that it becomes meaningless to continue offering fan club seats. Also, there are circumstances where people who are not members protesting that they are not able to purchase VIP seats.

To the investors and organizers, other than providing a good performance they also want to make profit. 

While it seems a matter of course to enjoy this benefit, we have to inform you with difficulty that due to the above reasons, the reality is it will be hard to have fan club seats like what used to be.
•We also wish to inform you that as what is being done currently, we will continue to receive help from supporters. Funds to support Rain will be raised according to the nature of the events and accounts will continue to be provided.
•The cost of running the official Cloud website will be sponsored by the company.
These are the changes in the structure we wish to inform you.  It’s a long one.
We believe it is possible that many of you will see shortcomings, feel bad or bitter. However our judgement is that it is difficult to keep on maintaining and operating the fan club like it’s current state. 

 The fan club has many years of history.  Just as conditions and environment have changed, the fan club also has to adapt and be flexible to changes. We hope to have your great understanding and support.

A show that will unveil Rain’s daily life?!

That’s right, Mnet is launching a reality program Rain Effect, following Rain’s life over a period of two years, from his preparations to his comeback. According to Mnet, the show will reveal Rain’s honest self as well as the world star that he is.

 

 

Producer Shin Chunji said, “We will reveal Rain’s most personal moments in the most natural way with depth of sincerity.”

Rain Effect will premiere on December 19, Thursday at 23:00 (GMT +9).

Stars pose to encourage adoption

Star photographer Cho Sei-hon’s annual exhibition featuring celebrities to encourage domestic adoption is back at the Insa Art Center in central Seoul from Wednesday through Dec. 23.

In the 11th “Letter from Angels,” members of K-pop groups including 2PM, 2AM, Sistar, ZE:A, Girls’ Generation―TTS, KARA, 4Minute, B1A4, BTOB, A Pink and BTS pose alongside babies or children with physical disabilities.

“The babies did fine. While the members of 2PM tried to cuddle Hyeong-gyu, a boy, he never frowned a bit. At last Ok Taec-yeon had to put him to sleep for a while but all 2PM members were impressed with him,” the Social Welfare Society, the organizer of the event, said in a press release.

The event came about when the SWS requested that Cho take photographs celebrating the 100 days of birth of infants who were about to be adopted overseas in 2003. It grew into celebrities posing with babies waiting to be adopted in order to encourage domestic adoption.

Top celebrities including singers Rain, CNBlue, 2NE1 and Big Bang as well as actors Lee Byung-hun, Lee Min-ho, Jang Geun-suk, Kim Hye-soo and Ko So-young more have participated in the past. They also left messages, which are said to have contributed to raising public awareness in finding the children new homes.

“Every year I wish there weren’t babies to take photos like this. But this year I realized that we still need to care about them. I hope the photos will allow more people to think about children in need of families and help them find one,” Cho said.

Rain will be unveiling his house during the first episode of Mnet’s Rain Effect.

The interior of the star’s house was decorated mostly in white and his poodle was shown hanging out in the grassy front yard.

The episode will also feature Rain trying to change his clothes behind the door, since cameras have been installed all over the house.

A staff of the show commented, “It will be very interesting to see how Rain acts in a variety show, since he is not used to it. He did his best throughout the show, as if he was still a trainee, even though he is now a veteran singer.”

The first episode is set to air on December 19.

In the debut episode of cable channel Mnet ‘Rain Effect’ tomorrow night (December 19th), Rain will be revealing his house to the public for the first time in 15 years since his debut.


From the preview photos that were revealed today, Rain’s house had a primarily white decor, with a big yard for his beloved poodle to roam about.

With the numerous cameras placed strategically all over the house, Rain had to slowly adjust to being on a reality show as he hid behind a door to change his clothes. Besides being able to see Rain’s fresh face, fans will be able to how Rain exercises to get his good body. Despite thrilling and wowing fans on stage with his dance choreography and good looks, Rain doesn’t really like exercising, but he has to keep doing it to keep himself in tip-top condition.

The show will also show footage of Rain embarking on his Japan tour after a 4 years absence, his rehearsals for ‘2013 MAMA’, and tirelessly preparing for his new album.

The production team said, “Rain hasn’t really got used to being on such a reality show, but it’s really fun to see how flustered he gets at times. Even though he has already been in the business for 15 years, we can still see how much hard work he puts every day in order to maintain his status as a top star, and that has left a deep impression on all of us.”

Churro King (츄로킹), a company that makes authentic Spanish churros in Korea, blogged yesterday the 14th about how they had the pleasure of catering on the sets of Rain’s new music videos on the 12th and 13th of this month.

One call from HS Media, who was in charge of the shoot, and off the Churro King food truck went to keep all the staff and dancers (in their Desente ski wear) as warm as possible with hot churros and coffee because, as you know, South Korea is in the throes of snow and harsh winter temperatures right now.

Our Naoko [harudoful] did some investigating and submits this short blurb from the company’s 12/14 post:

“Shortly after noon of 12th, the opening day, I was requested to come by 5 PM. As soon as I arrived at the shooting location and finished setting up, Rain came by. He was so wonderful, even in man’s view. On 13th, I received a call from media staff again. A rep from Cube DC revealed on December 18, "Rain's new album will be distributed by Loen Entertainment. It's natural as all the artists under Cube DC have worked with Loen."

Rain's upcoming album has been slated for January 6, 2014. It will be his first comeback as a singer since his discharge from the army. Before that, fans get to see him as Jung Ji Hoon on the reality show 'Rain Effect'.

While filming December 19’s broadcast of Mnet’s Rain Effect, Rain was seen having a meeting with his dance team when all of a sudden he yelled, “Your dance isn′t like how it used to be. We don’t have great team work anymore,” and left the room, shocking many around him.

But the incident turned out to be a part of the hidden camera prepared for a surprise birthday party Rain had planned for one of his dance team members.

Later on, Rain hugged the team member and celebrated his birthday with a cake and wine.

In the same episode, Rain was also seen buying a winter coat for his stylist of ten years as a birthday present, when he visited a shop to pick out clothes for his comeback in January.
