Hey guys,

Here is my belated summary of ep 6.

After practicing hwatoo skills hard under Pyung Gyung Jang's guidance, Goni has finally reached the level on which he can shuffle and distribute cards as he likes to. So, Pyung Gyung Jang asked them to take the final exam, say, playing games in a real setting. He travelled with them across the country to give them a chance to experience various types of gamblers and situations. He did not forget to teach them basic etiquettes and rules (i.e., when they earn all the money from opponents, they have to return part of earnings to losers.). One day, they went to a house where people mourned their beloved dead. Pyung Gyung Jang saw a guy playing hwatoo with a perfect example of 'tal' (poker face). He asked Goni and Go Kwang Yeol to play with him. The guy played games not in the way Goni expected him to. Goni lost games. Goni asked him how he played that way, and the guy answered back, players should play hwatoo from their heart, and then they can read their contestants' mind. Goni wondered what he meant by that.

On the other side, Ahn Se Hoon, the rich guy, rejected Agui's ask to cooperate for business purpose. Agui commanded Young Min to take responsibility for the project. Meeting Ahn Se Hoon again, Young Min proposed him, if he helps them to get a management contract for the U.S. military base casino he will get an equivalent benefit. Ahn Se Hoon had a personal tie with the general engaged in the casino business. Currently the casion was run by a tazza nicknamed Bulgom. When discussing about the project, Madame Jung suggested to use Jina (NanSook) to look for more detailed info on the casion. Young Min opposed to the idea, and Madame Jung asked why. Young Min was concerned about Jina since the project could be very dangerous if it falls off the track.

While Goni was trained by Pyung Gyung Jang, Young Min was also being trained by Agui in his way. Agui asked Young Min to take all the money from a hogu (which is named as stop oxygen supply), but Young Min couldn't understand if they could be that cruel to that poor guy, who was doing gambling with the money for his wife's hospital bill. Agui defined Tazza as a liar (gurakun), teaching Young 'to be a real gurakun is take whatever he wants, not win games.'

Pyung Gyung Jang confessed Goni he could not sleep well because he felt so sorry for those families who were broken by him. He continued to ask Goni if he still wanted to seek revenge to those who drove him to a homeless jerk. Goni replied, he understands what Pyung said, but he could not get rid of the thought of why it was him and how he lost. Then, Pyung taught him to learn playing games from his heart not with a lie. Pyung told Goni to visit his home as they were nearby Pusan. Goni went to his mom's restaurant, but it was run by someone else. When he finally found her mom working as a janitor, his heart was broken to pieces. He left a sweater and cash for her without her knowing.

On the way back, Goni happened to meet his high school best friend at an highway oasis. He told Goni that their nerd friend saw NonSook at an women's university. Three of them went to NanSook's school, but they couldn't see her by a hair. She left with Young Min. Goni picked up a poker card from the floor NanSook dropped accidently and was confident she goes to the school.

That day was her brother's birthday. She visited her brother in prison. He told her to leave the house. He said he would rather stay longer in prison than letting her work for them. Jina told him not to be stupid. Jina said in 6 months everything will be done. But her brother sweared himself about the revenge to the guy who destroyed him at the last moment.

Outside the prison, Young Min looked uneasy out of guilt and concern. After seeing her brother, Jina looked tired and listless. Jina told Young Min she would like to live in a queit place looking up the Alps after she finishes repayment of her brother's gambling debt and her brother is released from prison. Young Min felt symptaty and love for Jina.

Ahn Se Hoon introduced Young Min to the general. Young Min gave him bribery he prepared in advance. Jina started working for the casion as a dealer. Her primary job was to look for information about the casino and to steal a balance book. Madame Jung was seducing the general and it seemed work out. After leaving the party, Madame jung asked Young Min to drive home with a seductive gesture.

On the other side, Go Kwang Yeol needed emergecy money. He had a sick duaghter taken cared by his mother. When he lived with them, he started playing hwatoo games because of her daughther's outrageous medication bills. Now he heard from his mom his daughter was sick but can't go to hospital. Go Kwang Yeol begged Goni to go for the U.S. military base casino to earn some money.

At first Goni wasn't playing games just sitting next to Go Kwang Yeol. Then he noticed a poor guy being cheated by other Tazzas. The hogu got amost bankgrupt. Goni couldn't resist helping the poor guy. Goni joined the table and started using the method the funeral guy told him, say, reading the other player's mind. Goni helped the poor guy get his money back and continued to earn piles of cash. Watching Goni playing, the head of the casino, Bulgom, asked his followers to attack Goni and Go Kwang Yeol.

Searching for the balance book at the manager's office, Gina was caught up by Bulgom. Goni and Jina who caught up by Bulgom followers encountered each other first time after being fallen apart for 3 years.

Episode 07 up @ Aigoo ^_^v

LOL, puela, thank you!! I was just about to post that information and saw you already let everyone know! I'm dl'ing now, but it's slower than yesterday...lots of activity at MU, no doubt!! :)

Wils!!! Just saw your summary! I will stop for a moment and read it now!!!

....Okay, I'm back now! Wils, GREAT, great summary!! Thank you sooo much! It's perfect!!

It helps to assure me that I didn't misunderstand anything. Yes, of course I noticed that when YM was arguing against using NS/Jina for their "project," he drew the attention of Ah Gui and Madame J...they will be able to use that against him in the future, no doubt!!

OMG, just saw the caps of Ep. 7!!! Can't wait to watch!!! :o

o-cha, you know we will be waiting to read your comments!!! ;)

Thanks again, all, for helping me to enjoy this drama...I absolutely wouldn't be getting as much out of it without you!!! :)

o-cha, thanks a million for the earlier info on ViiKii...I started watching the subbed segments...I forgot how funny Ep. 1 was...honestly, JH is so hilarious!! muahaha.gifWhat a cutie!!! I see a lot I missed the first time around...because a lot is going on in that opening segment ~ it's worth the investment of time for the non-Korean speakers to watch these little videos! ;)

Hmmm...I'm 26% dl'd now on Ep. 7...I have a lot of drama stuff to dl today...my computer will be busy...

You're welcome, Jill and fivemagic. It's always my pleasure to share with you.

I was also downloading ep 7 through aigoo, and it was so slow. So I gave up. I may make a retry tonight.

o-cha, I am also anxious to read your lovely comments.

Thanks Luv for sharing the caps. I can't wait to watch ep 7. Thanks.

Yeah..*sigh* Besides, Madame Jung started developing her feeling toward YM, which is pulling off all four characters into a dangerous game.

wils : another great summary! Thanks so much...it helped me understand a couple of things. I want to say how much I appreciate your summaries...and the fact that you can do it in a concise yet thorough way is awesome.

Okay...my thought on episode 6 (Monday)..it's a more balanced episode when it comes to representing both sides (Goni's and A-Gui's).

FINALLY we see a more active Madam Jung..and I must say I enjoy it. Now that's the Madam Jung that I was waiting for...seductive yet not overtly sexy. Kang Sung Yeon gives off a sensual vibe yet there's also some sort of innocence to her.

Madam Jung flirts her way with the General but in a tame way..the perfect game of flirting where she leaves her 'victim' wanting for more...she showed enough attention to her victim to get him to be attracted to her without seeming desperate or slutty... Bravo Kang Sung Yeon! And I'm also glad to see her interact with Young Min. She obviously knows that Young Min likes Ji Na but she seems to want to play some sort of mind games too. She has after all learned from the best A-Gui when it comes to mind games. By putting her hand on Young Min's jacket lapel she reiterates her position..she the sajangnim (the boss) and him her underling. If she wants Young Min to be by her side he must follow. It's the subtle gesture and force that makes Madam Jung powerful. I don't think at this point in time Mdm Jung is attracted to Young Min but I can definitely sense that she isn't willing to give Young Min to Ji Na. Madam Jung has always been the alpha female and she isn't going to relinquish that position anytime soon. She has a 'tiger cub' under her wing (Ji Na) but she's not going to let Ji Na take over just yet. Her controlling Young Min is just a way for her to exert her power and control. The 'old tigress' still has claws.

Madam Jung aside...Now we get to see more and more of the difference between A-Gui and Phyung Gyung Jang's teaching methods.

A-Gui once again gave Young Min the task to pulling the life line of a gambler. Whenever A-Gui spots an amateur gambler he gets a kick out of ending their 'lives'. A-Gui may not have killed them but he might as well kill them considering he took all of their money. A-Gui is ruthless...and his motto seems to be as wils said in her summary "To take whatever he wants and not just to win games". It really saddens me to see Young Min slowly caving in to this. Young Min still doesn't do it willingly but he still follows A-Gui's order. Will Young Min fall deeper into the dark side? *sighhhh*

Phyung Gyung Jang on the other hand repeatedly tells Goni and Go Kwang Yeol to show compassion to people they beat. He teaches them to never take all and to leave some for the losers. Even from the very first episode we see how Phyung Gyung Jang likes to help people (the dice in the cups scene is an example).

What a contrast to A-Gui's method.

Sometimes I wonder if he ,Phyung Gyung Jang, still feels some regret for teaching A-Gui. Knowing what a wise and kind man he is, it must break his heart to see his ex student acting in such a filthy and evil way.

Thankfully our hero Goni seems to take after his master a lot. I thought the way Goni helped the amateur gambler at the American base was admirable. He can emphatize with that man and actually went above and beyond by helping him. He is truly his master's student.

Another thing about Phyung Gyung Jang that I noticed..and I'm sure you all noticed too is how respected he is by other gamblers.

For instance the tazza at the funeral home knew that GoGo were Phyung Gyung Jang's student and out of his respect for Master Phyung he gave some money back to Goni. And I'm glad he gave Goni a valuable lesson that a tazza plays hwatu with his heart and not his hands. Goni will eventually grasp the meaning of this as he plays hwatu at the American base.

Back to the other side... I'm glad to see Ji Na playing a bigger role in this episode. I thought Han Ye Seul did a great job here.

When Nan Sook visited her brother in prison I notice a different Nan Sook. She was no longer the sweet, innocent, helpless Nan Sook anymore. The House has molded her into a tough young woman.

I'm also starting to see the chemistry between Young Min and Ji Na... I think Kim Min Joon is excellent in playing the role of someone with a hidden love. But of course what got me excited is the fact that we'll get to see GoNan back together in episode 7. I think it's good timing..if they stay apart longer people might forget that they are supposed to be a couple.

Let's see what else impressed me... well..

of course Jang Hyuk's crying scene... he once again showed a different emotion...and what a difference between this crying scene and the crying scene of episode 4. The 22 year old Goni showed his ability to control his emotion a bit better than the 19 year old Goni. All this seemingly minor things such as difference in crying are not taken lightly by Jang Hyuk. I'm glad he and the director have thought the scenes over and gave us a different view of Goni. As Goni gets older, we get a sense that he is maturing too.

Having said all that about

JH's impressive crying scene...one thing that bugs me though..does Goni have to cry in almost every episode? I know Jang Hyuk can cry but sometimes I wish the director would go a different route. So far we've had crying scenes in almost every episode except for episode 3, right? Please correct me if I'm wrong. I just think the crying's a bit too much in the last 2 episodes...the crying in episode 6 stuck out the most for me because it just seemed so out of place. Oh it fits the storyline and the scene...but the scene itself seems to be out of place in context of the whole episode. I can't blame Hyuk for this...I just wish the director and/or writer would not so gratuitously insert crying scenes left and right for Goni. I would much prefer that they hold off the crying scenes for a more emotionally packed scene.

Ok...enough rants...you all know I love Tazza but if I have a rant I'll post it up.

Another tiny bitsy complain is the wardrobe and makeup. Some of Madam Jung's attire seems to be too modern. The setting is supposed to be 1998 but her dresses scream 2008..and make-up...for someone like me who grew up in the 90s...I must say nobody wears that kind of make up back andhairstyle then. Where's the deep dark red lipstick? Where's the scrunchie?

Especially in Korea at that time I believe the rage for women were straight, long dyed hair (blonde or reddish brown) either let down or tied up with a big scrunchie and dark red lipsticks. Am I right? hehehe...I know it's minor but it just bugs me.... Nan Sook/Ji Na's attire is better...there are some misses when it comes to period but most of her wardrobe is quite 'time period free'. The Madam Jung's ones though....they bug me....

Amidst my complaints, Tazza episode 6 is still a good episode. I think it'll be a good base for future episodes.

Would love to hear more of you girls' thoughts on episode 6.

o-cha, thanks for these great comments!! :)

Here are my thoughts on the crying...I loved that scene and I actually thought that, for once, it was dead on! I mean he saw in an instant how low his mother had sunk, how hard she was working, and all because of him... the way he did that scene and the amazing control he used to get it going, sustain it, and then calm himself down was amazing! Honestly, I'm not always fond of the crying scenes, but that one was in a special class by itself! I just love to watch him do that!!! :o

Well, we all know that if you want to act in a Kdrama, you have to be able to cry...and cry...and cry! It's just my humble opinion, but I really don't think there has been too much crying in the last few episodes and really, in Ep. 6, this was about it and it was exceptionally well done by our JH! I might be in the minority. I'm not really disagreeing with you; I just see it a little bit differently. I enjoy seeing JH "do his stuff." I just can't get enough of it!! LOLOL!!

I can dismiss the clothes and makeup issue, even though I know you're likely right...it's not a big deal for me...at least they all look good. What would bother me more is if the clothes and makeup were accurate, but the acting was poor or barely mediocre. If I have to choose, I go for the performances that really involve me!!

I like the sets (as I keep saying) and let me give two thumbs up for the location scouts!!! The locations have been great, starting with the ship in Ep. 1!

BTW, where is hjkomo! I hope she'll post some reactions!

Thanks o-cha for sharing your awesome comments on the drama. I want to share more thougts on your comment and ep 6 later tonight, but now one thing I am absolutely with you is the crying scene. Even though JH did an excellent acting for the scene, I also had the feeling that the scene is intended to cheaply appeal to the viewer's emotion.

Some GoNan couple pics. They look great together.

Jill : of course I'll take great acting over makeup anytime.....it's just my minor complaint... don't know why but it bugs me..it's almost like "Arrghh...this would've been perfect if not for the makeup/wardrobe." It's like you see a kid working so hard solving a math problem and he got all the steps right but he forgot to write down the total at the end.... I know I know..weird analogy

I see your points on the crying scene. My complaint on that particular crying scene of ep 6 is that it just feels so out of place..like wils said it's cheaply playing on viewers' emotions. I am still in awe over Hyuk's crying scene..that man is unbelievably good..he can open a clinic on how to emote on different crying scenes...but that particular scene I thought was a bit unnecessary. I know the writer and the director want us to see how sorry Goni felt about his mom and how much he loves his mom..but I just think the writer/director took the 'lazy' way out by inserting that crying scene. The way I view it is if they take away that scene the audience wouldn't miss out on anything. It doesn't seem to add to the storyline. I don't need to see Goni crying to be reminded of his love and regrets. On the other hand the crying scene in episode 4 (when he left Pusan) was vital to the storyline. Without that crying scene we might get the impression that Goni is just some cowardly, irresponsible kid. The crying then makes us feel his struggle, his heart being torn apart by guilt and grief.

Ok enough of me complaining...I still love Hyuk..and that scene by itself would've been stellar..just not executed at the right time and place imho.

Isn't it great that we could disagree yet see each other's points at the same time? This is why I love you gals...
