조승우에 도전장 낸 <타짜> 장혁을 만나다

드라마 <타짜>가 드디어 어제, 베일을 벗었습니다.

1회가 끝나자마자 '고니' 역을 맡은 장혁의 연기에 좋은 평가가 속속~ 나오고 있는데요.

만화와 영화 속에 나왔던 진지한 캐릭터와는 또 다른 느낌의 '고니'가 창조되었다고 하죠.

장혁이 연기하는 달라진 '고니'의 캐릭터, 직접 확인해보시죠.

[리포트]

SBS 새 월화드라마 <타짜>가 16일, 첫 방송 되었습니다. 인기 만화에서 690만 관객을 끌어들인 영화로, 그리고 다시 20부작의 드라마로 재탄생되는 만큼 기대감이 큰데요.

드라마가 시작되면서 많은 주목을 받았던 이 사람!

[인터뷰:장혁]

"안녕하세요, '고니' 역을 맡은 장혁입니다."

바로 주인공 '고니'로 브라운관에 돌아온 장혁입니다. 장혁은 2006년 11월 제대한 후, 한층 성숙해진 모습으로 <고맙습니다>, <불한당> 등을 통해 연기력을 인정받았는데요.

도박 승부사들이 펼치는 냉혹한 도박 세계를 그릴 드라마 <타짜>. 하지만 장혁은 <타짜>에 대해 단순한 도박 드라마가 아니라고 말하는데요.

Q) <타짜>는 어떤 드라마...?

A) "쇼적으로 보여주는 기술적인 부분이 아니라 심리적으로 인간관계 안에서 풀어갈 수 있는, 그런 스릴러적인 느낌도 있고 여러 가지... 심리적인 드라마라고 볼 수 있습니다."

심리적인 요소가 강하다는 드라마 <타짜>에서 그가 보여줄 캐릭터는 원작 만화 속 캐릭터나 영화와는 조금 다르다고 하는데요.

Q) 드라마 속 고니의 캐릭터는...?

A) "원작에 나와 있는 캐릭터는 굉장히 진지하고 좀 조용하고, 그리고 굉장히 서민적인 느낌이 나고 제가 맡은 캐릭터는 굉장히 밝아요. 활기차고 활력의 요소들이 많이 있는 반면에 안에는 굉장한 슬픔을 가지고 있는 캐릭터죠."

'타짜'는 노름판에서 남을 속이는 재주꾼을 뜻하는데요, 드라마 속에서 도박의 기술을 구사하기 위해 장혁은 진짜 타짜도 만났다고 합니다.

Q) 실제 타짜에 대한 느낌...?

A) "절대 이 분들과 만나면 안 되겠구나... 그런 느낌."

그렇다면 실제 장혁의 화투 실력은 어떨까요?

Q) 실제로 타짜 수업했다는데 화투 실력은...?

A) "그게 화투 실력과 비례되는 건 아닌 것 같아요. 이를테면 제가 배운 거는 그 분들에게 심리적인 부분을 많이 리서치를 했었고 또 하나는 카메라 앞에서 보여줄 수 있는 몇 가지 기술... 중점적인 부분은 그 사람들이 경험을, 화투판이라든지 카지노라든지 그런 데 갔을때 게임과 상대방 타짜들과 같이 게임을 했을때 그런 느낌이라든지 그런 부분에 대한 게 많기 때문에... 직접 게임을 어떻게 막 쳐서 하진 않았죠. 제 실력이 얼마나 되는지는 모르겠어요."

한편, 장혁은 화려한 화투 기술 뿐만 아니라 강렬한 액션씬까지 직접 해냈다고 하는데요.

Q) 액션씬이 많다. 직접 했다는데...?

A) "액션씬을 개인적으로 재미있어 하고 액션씬을 따로 분리해서 하는게 아니라 연기 선상에서 또 같이 하는 연기이기 때문에 직접하는 거고 더 멋있게 보여주기 위한 부분이 아닌 이 캐릭터가 그 캐릭터 성격에 맞게 오히려 제가 하는 게 더 맞는 부분이기 때문에, 그렇게 이 작품에서도 어지간한 부분에서는 제가 직접하고..."

또한 드라마 후반부에는 더 정교한 액션 장면이 준비될 거라고 하는데요. 장혁은 이미 후반부 촬영 준비도 차근차근 해나가고 있다고 합니다.

Q) 액션씬을 위해 준비한 것...?

A) "제가 절권도를 좀 해서 지금은 현실적으로 액션을 보여주고 나중에는 제가 후반부 이야기지만 감옥에 갔다가 기술적인 스킬을 보여줄 수 있는 액션 자체가 나올 수 있기 때문에 그 때는 절권도적인 요소도 섞어서 보여주기 위해 준비하고 있습니다."

원작과 영화의 성공이 있었던 만큼 드라마 제작에 대한 부담도 있을 듯 한데요. 하지만 동료 배우들과의 호흡이 잘 맞아, 촬영은 한결 수월했다고 하죠.

Q) 연기 호흡은 어떤지...?

A) "저희 <타짜>에서 매력으로... 꼽으라면 저희 같이 나오는 배우들이 나오기 때문에 매력이 있지 않을까 싶습니다. 각자 각자의 어떤 멋스러움이나 외모의 멋스러움이 아니라 그들이 풍기는 느낌이 참 잘 맞아 떨어진다고 생각하기 때문에 의견 교환도 잘 되고 있기 때문에 그런 생각이 드는 것 같습니다."

드라마 속에서 경쟁상대로 등장할 김민준과는 아주 특별한 인연이라고 하는데요.

"저의 고향이 김민준 씨랑 동향인데 부산이고 또 친구입니다. 촬영 현장이 부산에 있다보니까 저희가 고등학생에서 시작해서 성인 역으로 까지 시간이 흘러 가는데 각자가 각자 예전의 자기 동네에서 촬영을 하게 되면 그 때 어떤 향취나 그 때 자주 갔던 음식점 그런 데서 앉아서 옛날 이야기도 하고 주변에 오랜만에 친구들 만나서 예전 생각하면서 학교 이기도 하고 그랬었던 에피소드도 있는 것 같습니다."

16일 방송된 1회에는 고니가 도박판에 빠져들 수 밖에 없는 과거가 드러났는데요, 도박판에서 보여지는 인간의 욕망과 그로 인한 갈등이 어떻게 펼쳐질지, 시청자들의 관심도 높아지고 있습니다.

"저희 <타짜> 굉장히 인간적이고 매력있는 드라마니까 저희 배우들과 감독님 스탭들 함께 땀흘리면서 재미있게 촬영하고 있으니까 많이 기대해주십시오."

다부진 체격과 외모로 '고니' 역에 제격이라는 평가를 받았던 장혁. 이제 그가 창조해나갈 드라마 <타짜> 속의 '고니' 캐릭터를 드라마 팬들 모두가 관심있게 지켜볼 것 같습니다.

The drama Tazza was finally unveiled yesterday. Right after the first episode was broadcast, praises about Jang Hyuk's performance lined up. 'Goni' in the drama has been said to be created differently from its somewhat serious counterpart in the movie. Let's see how different Jang Hyuk's Goni is.

Reporter: the new SBS mon-tuesday drama Tazza premiered on the 16th. As the same-titled, popular manhwa was adapted to a movie drawing 6.9 million audiences, and now to a drama with 20 episodes, it is not surprising to see people paying an enormous attention to this drama. As the drama is unveiled, the spotlight is shed on this man!

"Hello, this is Jang Hyuk playing the role of Goni."

Jang Hyuk is back to the small screen through 'Goni' a hero of the new drama Tazza. He has been appraised for splendid performance in <Thank You> and <Robbers> after being discharged from the military service in November 2006.

The drama Tazza is apparently expected to portray the merciless world of gamblers. However, Jang Hyuk said the drama is not just about gambling.

Q: how do you say about the drama Tazza?

A: The drama not only focuses on the technical aspect to make the show more brilliant, but also on the relational conflicts and their resolving processes possessing thrilling tensions. I would say it is more like a psychological drama.

Q: How's Goni's character in the drama?

A: Goni of the original is a calm, serious, quiet, and shirt-sleeved character, but the Goni I will play has a bright personality. On the surface he is delightful and energetic, but does have sadness underneath the lightheartedness.

Tazzas refer to those who are good at deceiving opponents at the gambling table. He was said to meet real tazzas to learn some gambling techniques for the drama.

Q: What's your impression about them?

A: I better not encounter them in a real life...something like that...

Q: How would you say about your hwatoo gambling ability after learning techniques from them?

A: I think how good hwatoo skills you have has little to do with whether you are able to become a competitive gambler. I learned from them what they feel about gambling in general, sort of an exploratory research on gambling, on one hand and some gambling techniques to be shown on the screen on the other. But the focus was placed more on their stories about gambling experiences such as how they feel when going to the casinos or hwatoo places, sitting in front of contestants, and playing games with them, respectively. I did not play real games, so I don't know what level of gambling ability I have.

On the other hand, Jang Hyuk has been said to do action scenes himself not alone the glamorous hwatoo motion arts.

Q: I heard you did action acting by yourself?

A: I personally find it exciting to do action acting, and plus I don't think it is separable from other types of acting. I do action scenes myself because it is also part of acting and it would be better for the very actor to do it for character integrity, not so as to make me look glamorous. So..If I can manage it, I try to do it myself.

There will be thrilling action scenes in the latter half of the drama. Let's ask how he prepares for them.

Q: How do you prepare for the action scenes?

A: The action scenes in the early part of the drama are supposed to be seen more like unskilled ones. In the latter part of the story, after Goni being discharged from jail, more skilled actions may be required to show his transformation during his imprisonment. As I have practiced Jeet Kune Do for years, those action scenes may include part of Jeet Kundo Do actions.

The drama team may feel burdened by the grand success of the manhwa and the same-titled movie. But it is said actors are showing a good teamwork, which makes shooting easier.

Q: How is the working with fellow actors?

A: If asked to pick one among the attractions of Tazza, I would like to pick the combination of our fellow actors. It is not because each actor is attractive in each one's own style and gorgeous in appearance, but because each has one's distinctive emotional atmopshere which is tightly matched with one's character, and most of all, they are all well paired with one other. So we have no problem with trading ideas about acting.

The special personal connection with Kim Min Jun is also interesting.

"We both came from Busan and have been in good terms. The current shooting location is in Busan, where our characters spend their high school days before moving to the adulthood. When we happen to shoot in the towns we lived, we go to the restaurants we used to go, talking our old days. Sometimes we meet our old friends living nearby, sharing the stories about our schools."

The first episode broadcast on the 16th sets a backdrop against which we can understand why Goni can't help but get into the gambling world. TV viewers show high anticipation on how human being's desires and conflicts between individual desires would unfold along the storyline.

"Our drama Tazza is so human and attractive, and we actors, our director, and staff are working so hard and happily to make a good drama. It will meet your anticipation for sure."

Jang Hyuk has been seen as a best fit for Goni in appearance and shape, and drama fans will wait and see the new 'Goni' he will create in the drama Tazza.

I just finished Ep 1, and it was quite fun and enjoyable, tho a lil bit sad in the middle..

Loving Jang Hyuk as Goni already!

ripgal : yaaaay..you watched episode 1 already. I thought the same thing..pretty good episode 1..not spectaculat but solid. I'm also dying to know about episode 2.

There seems to be quite a bit of news about Tazza on Korean news sites today. I'll see if I can translate some of them.I hope it means good news that maybe Tazza is quite popular...hehehe.

[OSEN=최현유 기자] 지난 16일 첫 방송된 SBS 월화드라마 '타짜'(설준석 극본, 강신효 연출)의 본격적인 스토리 서막이 오른다.

[OSEN=Reporter Choi Hyeon Yoo] SBS Mon-Tue Drama ‘Tazza’ had it’s prelude story on the premiere on the 16th.

연출을 맡은 강신효 PD는 "첫 방송이 등장인물의 개요 설명과 주인공들의 어린 시절에 중점을 두었다면 2회부터는 본격적인 스토리 라인이 전개될 것"이라고 설명했다.

PD Kang Shin Ho said “We explained the importance of the dramatic persona of the characters’ and the main characters’ childhood in the first episode. Starting from the second episode will mark the development of the real storyline.”

22일 방송될 2회 방송분에서는 나이트클럽으로 잠입한 날나리 여고생 난숙(한예슬 분)이 여대생들 앞에서 현란한 춤 솜씨를 과시하고, 영민(김민준 분)은 이 곳에서 정마담(강성연 분)과 첫 만남을 갖는다. 영민은 할머니의 수술비를 마련하기 위해 광명파가 차려 놓은 하우스로 들어가 도박을 시작하며 냉혹한 승부사로서의 첫 발을 내딛게 되는 장면이 전파를 탈 예정이다.

On thebroadcast of the 2nd episode on the 22nd we see

the student Nan Sook (Han Ye Seul) sneaking into a nightclub and dancing in front of college students. We also see Young Min (Kim Min Joon) meeting Madam Jung (Kang Seong Yeon) for the first time. In order to get money for his grandmother’s operation, Young Min came to ‘the house’ and started gambling.

1회 첫 방송 때 시청자들은 원작과 영화와는 다른 캐릭터 설정과 이야기 구조, 빠른 화면 전개에 대해 '흥미진진하다'며 지지를 보였다. 반면 장점이 단점으로도 작용해 '원작과 영화에 비해 다소 실망했다'는 등 엇갈리는 반응을 보이기도 했다.

In the first episode viewers were introduced to characters, set and dialogues different from the manhwa and the movie. Things were fast paced and responses of “Very interesting”. There were also negative responses with the negative being “somewhat disappointing compared to the movie and manhwa.”

'타짜' 제작진은 "첫 방송 때 분당 시청률이 후반부로 갈수록 높아진 점을 감안해 볼 때 2회는 1회 때 보다 더 좋은 반응을 보여줄 것으로 기대하고 있다"고 앞을 내다봤다.

Tazza production team said “We are expecting a better reaction from viewers of the second episode and are hoping for better ratings.”

this was the preview of episode 2

타짜(SBS 오후 9:55)=광명파에 쫓기던 고니와 영민은 육교 위에서 퇴로를 차단 당하자 지나가는 트럭으로 뛰어내린 후 유유히 사라진다. 난장판이 된 당구장의 모습을 본 난숙은 반드시 응징할 거라며 결의를 다지다 가방을 발견한다. 가방 속에서 주윤발이라는 명찰을 본 난숙은 주윤발을 찾기 위해 나이트로 향한다. 나이트에 갔던 고니는 단속반이 들이닥치자 난숙의 손목을 잡고 뛴다. 영민과 마주선 난숙은 주윤발이라는 명찰을 발견하고 당구장에 와서 한 번만 더 싸움을 하면 가만두지 않겠다고 쏘아 붙인다. 당돌한 난숙의 모습을 보고 흥미를 느낀 고니는 자신의 이름을 알려주고 고니의 이름을 들은 난숙은 어린 고니를 떠올리며 머리가 멍해지는 충격을 받는다.

Goni and Young Min who were under pursuit jumped from a bridge and with the help of a crossing truck underneath managed to get away. During the confusion and disorder at the billiard hall, Nan Sook found a bag. The bag was full and had the name tag ‘주윤발’ (Joo Yoon Bal); in order to find this Joo Yoon Bal she went to a nightclub. Goni grabbed Nan Sook and ran with her because of a police raid. )Not sure about the following sentence but I think it says something about Young Min meeting Nan Sook and they were in another fight again with the gansgsters at the billiard hall?). Goni was interested in Nan Sook and told her his name. Upon hearing Goni’s name, the image of the kid Goni pops up in Nan Sook’s head and she remembered him.
