I think it may alter it a little, this drama sounds a lot different, though. I'm really trying to get my vision of Madam Jung out.

Hello guys,

I translated four leading charactor descriptions first.

I will add the translated description of other supporting characters soon. It looks like the SBS promo team left out two key supporting characters from the list: Go Kwang Reol (Son Hyun Joo) and Pyung Gyung Jang (Lim Hyun Shik). :phew:

****************************************************************************

Character Descriptions:

Goni (played by Jang Hyuk)

"The real game starts from now, and I will throw my final card on behalf of my parents, my friends and my everything. The final card name is revenge."

At the end of his high school days, he met YoungMin who saved him from a hwatoo game where he played with Kwang Cheol, a scumbag and Nan Sook's brother. They spent the most beautiful days together for a while. But things changed. Goni's step father and mother died because of Young Min and Goni was forced to be in jail as someone from the side of A-Gui narked him out for violation of the national security law.

In jail, he learned more tazza techniques and built up social networks. After dismissed, he went under the wing of the number one tazza Phyun Gyung Jang (played by Lim Hyun Sik). After practicing and mastering techniques under him with the determination of revenge from his resentment, Goni re-entered the world of gambling. There will be no old Goni until he reaches the goal. He defeated powerful tazzas from the nation in a queue, and finally ends up sitting at the table opposite A-Gui.

Nan Sook (played by Han Ye Seul)

"If I sell my flesh now, I will make no more than hundred thousand dollars.

But if I use it differently, I can make at least half million dollars."

There is a dull and shoddy counter table at a billiard hall. If she sits behind it, she can make it bright.

She is a girl with mysterious coldness and charm.

She is the first love to Goni and Young Min.

When her brother happened to step in the hwatoo game that A-Gui planned, her life changed. He not only lost the building (probably his family owned and he probably bet on), but also had Nan Sook be sold to Jang Dong Shik (probably a man of AGui).

Liking Nan Sook at first sight, Madam Jung took her with the determination to raise her as a tazza. Nan Sook goes to school during the day, while at night, working and learning hwatoo games at the room-salon and house Madam Jung manages for business.

Young Min (played by Kim Min Joon)

"No one knows when the game ‘Go’es or ‘Stop’s until it is really over."

His eyes are sharp, his feet noiseless, and his fists deliver powerful punches.

He has such a charisma that no one dares to come close to him.

Several gangs often targeted him for recruitment, but he never paid attention to them.

He did not want to give his grand mom any concern who raised him alone..

When he first saw Goni who was able to conquer him with such mild eyes, he became interested in Goni, with unexplainable bewilderment.

He thought he did not need more friends if he had Goni as a friend.

But when he found out the person who died after cutting his wrist by himself was Goni's step father, he couldn't stay next to Goni, ending up turing back at him.

Madame Jung (played by Kang Sung Yeon)

"I will raise a baby tiger with her leg chained."

She looks in her late twenties, but is indeed 35 years old.

She shines in her sizzling glamorous beauty. Even the white teeth slightly shown between her red lipsticks look simply smashing.

She smells like a rose. No one sits with comfort oppsite her at the gambling table. Beauty is her fatal weapon. Through her life experiences, she does not trust men, but rather hates them. That's why she loves the gambling games where she can destroy men to her fullest.

Dang, so much catching up to do! ;)

Glad to see so many chingus anticipating this drama. :D

JH and KMJ together in one drama.

Be.Still.My.Heart. :sweatingbullets:

Question: I haven't watched the movie. Should I watch the movie first, or could it alter my expectations of the drama too much?

Hey hjkomo,

The movie was based on the first volume of manwha TAZZA and the drama will be adapted from the second and fourth volumes of the manhwa. So i guess it may not really matter even if you watch the movie first. ;)

wils Thank YOU! Seems like they made the characters a bit more sympathetic than the original, Madam Jung this time is a little extreme. I'm already intrigued.

THANK YOU!!

Happy Weekends, guys,

Here is the rest of character descriptions. As I said above, I hope to see the descriptions on Go Kwang Reol (Son Hyun Joo) and Pyung Gyung Jang (Lim Hyun Shik) soon. ;)

****************************************************************************

Character Descriptions 2:

A-Gui (played by Kim Kap Soo)

"Do you know who cut off this finger? It's him! I've never forgotten what this cut finger means at any single day for the last 20 years."

He is a legend of the tazza world, but at the same time a figure of extreme evil.

He is notorious for the eccentric habit that if he wins a game he cut off the opponent's wrist.

When people see him in person, they get appalled at the wicked ice he gives off.

He is a dandy in white traditional clothes with a cigar, but they can't hide his evil charisma.

He operates a big national chain of Houses with professional tazzas. He dares to buy the nation through gambling and the casino business plays a central role in his ambition.

People in Prison

Captain

He is a quiet person, conquering the opponent with eyes. After finding Goni is a tazza, he treats Goni specially.

Kyung Ho

He, an ex-policeman, was thrown into jail for being involved in a corruption case. He is cynical but sympathetic.

After early dismissal, he helps Goni to find Mi-Na (Nan Sook's another name) by looking for info on her.

Prison warden

A de facto organizer of gambling games taking place in prison.

He earns some portion out of the profits coming from gambling games. He is good at calculating but knows when to stop if the game is over. In return for the earnings he could make thanks to tazza Goni, he allows Goni to take a short trip to outside in disguise of a patient.

Mr. Yoo

As he looks small and weak, he sometimes becomes a target of group bullying. Goni saves Mr. Yoo when he is being beaten up by a group of prisoners. It is he who let Goni know that Dae Ho (?) is a tazza. He advises Goni on going under Pyun Gyung Jang (Lim Hyun Shik) and practicing tazza techniques to fight against A-Gui, while helping Pyung Gyung Jang accept Goni on the other. Mr. Yoo was once a bodyguard who followed after Pyun Gyung Jang.

People in House

President Park

Nick-named as 'Mr. Picky', he is the owner of the House that Goni works as a house servant as Go Kwang Reol (Son Hyun Joo) introduces him to the place. He opens gambling games and takes 10 % out of the entire gambling money on the table for participation fees. He often lends money to gamblers, claiming 10 to 20 percent of the stake. Later, he is defeated by A-Gui party, ending up bankrupt.

Little Madame

She is nick-named as 'Ms.Tail' and a sister of president Park's wife.

Her role in the House is to gather gamblers. She has a number of informants, continuously looking for the potential victims.

She loans gambling games and gets high interest in return. It is she who narks Goni out to the jail.

Manager Seo

A top tazza in the Park's house. He plots to take over the house by helping the A-gui party defeat president Park.

Dr. Whang

A professional gambler. He teaches Goni on gambling. He pretends to be on Goni's side, but is in fact a spy from the A-Gui's side.

wils : awesome job translating! The storyline definitely sounds more and more interesting as we learn more about the characters.

cholo : thanks for sharing the gifs and artworks. Jang hyuk kicks butt!

fiona628 : thanks for sharing the trailer here. I have faith that the cast will do a good job acting. It is unfortunate that they drama has to go up against strong competition but that really doesn't mean anything. As long as the drama proves to be a great production we should be satisfied with that.

wils dear...more homework from you...hehehe. Seems like SBS posted more characters. They included Phyeon Gyeong Jang there already. There's also a description for Go Kwang Yeol and Dae Ho (Goni's foster dad?). Just whenever you get a chance..no hurry....thanks dear!

other bits of news mentioning Tazza

http://www.newsen.com/news_view.php?uid=200808181032361001

The article is talking about similarity and differences to adaptations of manhwa (comic) to drama/movie. I guess for Tazza there is a big difference in the portrayal of Goni. In the manhwa Goni is supposed to be this big (kindda pudgy), a little stupid and aloof person when he is gambling. In the drama Jang hyuk as Goni looks so well built in the action scenes.

Also in the manhwa Madam Jung is supposed to be in her 40s but in the drama she is in her 30s. The article also says people are looking forward to the femme fatale image of the drama Madam Jung. The manhwa's Madam Jung is more of a 'worn out' woman and not the sexy woman portrayed in the drama.

TV Dramas Gear Up for Post-Olympics Race

By Han Sang-hee

Staff Reporter

The Beijing Olympic Games will end Sunday, so what is worth seeing after the Olympic flame goes out? For TV fans, major networks are gearing up for a competition with their most anticipated dramas.

MBC will start the race off with "East of Eden'' Monday. The drama has made headlines with its star-studded cast even before shooting, with big names like Song Seung-heon, Yeon Jung-hoon, Lee Da-hae and Han Ji-Hye and veteran actors Yoo Dong-kun and Lee Mi-sook.

The drama is the first for Song and Yeon since they got out of the Army.

The 50-part series cost 25 billion won and tells of the brothers Dong-chul (Song) and Dong-wook (Yeon). Their fates diverge after the murder of their coal miner father, with one joining the mob and the other becoming a successful lawyer.

Next is "Beethoven Virus,'' a treat for classical music lovers. The drama depicts the world of musicians, from a charismatic conductor to a stubborn trumpet player and a pretty violinist. The first drama to feature an orchestra, "Beethoven Virus'' will be a treat for the eyes and ears.

Starring actors Kim Myung-min, E Ji-ah and Jang Keun-suk, the drama will start Sept. 10.

SBS next month will offer "Garden of the Wind (working title),'' with popular actress Moon Geun-young to play Joseon Kingdom (1392-1910) artist Shin Yoon-bok. Based on the novel of the same name, the drama will take viewers on a mysterious journey with Shin and fellow artist Kim Hong-do, played by Park Shin-yang. Shin is an ill-fated girl who must live as a man to find how her father died.

080819_p14_tv1.jpg

History tells little of the famed artist Shin, unlike counterpart Kim who worked in the royal gallery and left many famous works. This makes Shin's story more intriguing, as writers and producers of the drama searched for even the smallest details and documents about the mysterious artist.

Also coming next month from SBS is "Tazza,'' starring Jang Hyuk, Kim Min-jun and Han Ye-seul. Based on the successful movie of the same title, the drama will focus on the competition between two ambitious gamblers.

Before SBS announced the cast, a small incident occurred between actresses Sung Hyun-ah and Kang Sung-yeon, both of whom thought they would play the seductive yet charming Madame Jeong. To Sung's disappointment, Kang got the part.

080819_p14_tv2.jpg

KBS will premiere Sept. 10 the historical drama "The Land of the Wind,'' featuring Song Il-kook's return to TV as King Daemushin of the Goguryeo Kingdom (37 B.C.-A.D. 668). The cast and production team recently returned from China after spending more than 40 days filming battle scenes.

The drama is also based on the popular historical cartoon by Kim Jin. ''Land of the Wind'' will also be Song's third historical drama, following "Jumong ― Prince of Legend (2006)'' and "Haeshin ― Emperor of the Sea (2004).
