Im pointing out the Cinderella connection because the English translations compare her to Cinderella. Im not Korean, so please excuse my ignorance of Korean phrases and allusions.

Contrary to what it has traditionally been, Chagyeong regards Shin as a sexual object.

Also, Ive only seen up to episode 4 so I cant comment on whether or not CG thinks of Shin as a sexual object. From what Ive seen so far, she doesnt seem like the type to be thinking of that, at least consciously that is. Shin maybe , but not CG. CG was even shocked that Shin was even questioning the elders' decision to postpone the consummation of their marriage.

She doesn't become happy when she marries the prince. On the contrary, things only begin when she gets married, and it's her personal journey of growth with the final goal of taking a huge responsibility as the Empress of a nation

Of course not all aspects of Cinderella will be shown in every detail of the show. Cinderella has more than one theme. CG compares herself to Cinderella because she expects her life to improve after she marries the prince. And since Ive only seen epis 2-4, I cant comment about her personal growth or journey. CG agreed to the marriage because she wanted to help her family, to improve their life in addition to her own. I dont think she even thought about being "The Empress". The show would be boring and lame if it was an exact replica of Cinderella. However, no one can deny the connections, and that their inclusion in the show have some importance. They wouldnt be included if they werent important. Every closeup of something has significance. I learned this in a film class. Who knows, the show may even end up rejecting the Cinderella story and tell us that fairy tales are fake and remind us that life is never always a happily ever after story.

If the show was about CG discovering her path, it would involve more of CG contemplating on the path she chose. What Ive seen so far is CG thinking about her relationship with Shin.

In this regard, ANY reference to Cinderella is, I would say, superficial. Be it the slipper or the gym pants, or the fact that she married the prince.Hopefully she won't have to run when the time comes, but stand firmly in her own place. Edit: Oh, about the gym pants, if I may add to your observation, if they indeed intende that as some kind of reference, the important thing may be that she took her pants off herself, instead of dropping it by mistake.

I dont think its significant whether or not she dropped her pants by "accident" or on purpose. The point is that she left something that was valuable to her and it was picked up by a prince who happened to fall in love with her and felt a connection with her because of it. The whole pants incident is between Yul and CG. By the way, how can you drop pants by accident. This would be difficult to pull off so the writer probably changed the events a bit for the scene to make sense. There was still the guy trying to chase her and catch her. hehe, that was funny. I also said that the shoe reference was supeficial because we know its a Cinderella reference when the Crown Prince picks it up. Its too obvious. So the writer may be trying to trick us into expecting that Shin is CG's prince, when it really was supposed to be Yul.

Anyway, CG doesnt seem like the type to be scared off the palace. She seems firm and confident already. Its Shin and Yul who have the confidence issues. When I said run off, I meant follow Shin and go on adventures. Shes not the type to be caged/confined.

Hi all! I am new at this so please bear with me. I have been reading some recent posts (I planned on reading all but then I noticed there are 1400++ pages so I started on page 1430) Anyways, I absolutely adore GOONG!!! I really love this drama and the wait is making me insane. I watch it even if I dont understand 99.9% of what they are saying and it still gives me the tingles!!! hahaha I just have a few comments regarding what I have read previously but before I do that let me say that I am a certified Shin + CG camper.

First, about the it being too draggy...err I really don't think so. I think its just enough because people buy that stuff ... meaning the misunderstandings/fights/miscommunications and all that. I mean people wont watch a drama if it's without complications and struggles and it also gives us this anticipation of how its going to be after all these hardships that they went through. It's like being thirsty and the PDs are just giving us water drop by drop until we can really savor the water...or on the other hand until we just might die hahaha.

Second, I agree about not having a season 2 but I think this is a moot point to discuss because they're having it anyways... I think? I don't see the point! And if they are going to end season 1 with a cliffhanger, at least give us the assurance that the 2 of them are together before season 1 ends. Please or I just might strangle myself!

Third, the kiss in episode 18 is...uhm...(i really dont want to say hot!)...nice(hahaha for lack of a better word to describe). I have seen a lot of korean dramas and the kiss is always just a smack. Its nice to see a lip movement during a kiss. And although its violating every feminist ideals I have, I thought it was kinda sweet. It just goes to show that Shin can loose his cool sometimes and act like a complete idiot because of jealousy... :blush: My limit ends with the spit though...

And lastly, I really enjoyed reading all the comments and spot translations in this thread. I think I'm gonna be just as addicted here as I am with Goong.

The way I see it, it's too obvious and direct to have much meaning. I agree that everything has meaning. I've made a few posts about meanings and symbolism in the drama. But when we say Cinderella regarding this show, it's not a specific allusion, but the entire show is premised on that. That's too obvious and old. What they did instead, is to take the superficial appearance of Cinderella story, but inject it with meaning other than Cinderella story. So that while the story looks like a Cinderella story on the surface, it's not one at all.

By the way, how can you drop pants by accident.

Well, not that you can drop pants by accident, but I meant to say that she didn't take it off and leave it behind her as if she would drop some other object (say, a glass slipper) by mistake.

I only have Low Quality videos can't downlod HQ since it stops in the middle of the download process

how would the videos show on my TV if it is possible to burn and play on a DVD player that reads DIVX

just read that season 2 is only going to be 6 episodes long...i kinda don't understand why all of us has to wait till next year just to watch 6 eppies why not just extend it to 30 episodes that way we find out how it ends. I don't know how i am going to wait that long if i am already restless waiting a week for each episode and subtitles to come out.

if seasion two is going to b 6 epi. mayb the storyline wouldnt be a continual story but story base on the 6 main character life when they are in collegue. the story line would only consist of sweet scene. like a sum up of the story on the character. i hope this make scence

I can't belive its Monday already. As of right now I am waiting for episdoe 19 and 20 writing preview. Oh the excitement. Thank God that its spring break. That mean I can wake up early Wednesday to download. I notice there not much sploirs this week as compare to last week. Gosh the forum was flooded with lovely pictures of our love bird. I just love sploirs.

About the season 2 idea. Are the PD nuts. They are going to make us all wait like 9 months just to watch 6 episodes. For heaven sake just make season 1 30 episode already. It is just a waste of waiting time to watch just 6 episode. I mean if its going to be that short just forget the idea of a second season and finish season 1 already. If that really happen someone should really burn down MBC.

eh i believe MBC will charge u higher for shipping and handling if u are NON korean. yups. i got mine directly from mbc and it's slightly more expensive.. i suggest get from eclick.. they handle all the messy stuff for u since u cant understand korean

They should work fine. My console DVD player plays the subs and Xvid files together correctly. I can fit 6 episodes on one DVD. Just make sure the names of the avi and srt files are the same when you burn them.

On a different note, does anyone think CG(EH) had her lips siliconized (pumped with silicone implants)? They seem a little bigger than most Korean girls.
