Six movies to look out for in 2023

Despite the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, cinema admissions last year were weaker than expected. A total of 986.3 million tickets were sold in the January-November period of 2022, up 89.3 percent from a year earlier. However, the figure remained below half (48.3 percent) of the pre-pandemic level (2019) due to a lack of mega-hit films.

Studios latched on to blockbusters including the sequels to "The Outlaws," "Roaring Currents" and "Avatar" to attract audiences back to theaters. Many of the films conceived and shot during the pandemic have been subject to repeated delays as cinemas saw a big drop in overall attendance.

While 2023 still looks somewhat grim, in terms of reaching pre-pandemic attendance levels, there is still room for cautious optimism. Here are six movies to look out for this year, ranging from intense thrillers to sweet romance films.

'Kidnapped' (working title)
"Kidnapped," starring actors Ha Jung-woo and Ju Ji-hoon, tells the story of Korean hostages captured in Beirut, Lebanon in the 1980s. This marks director Kim Seong-hun's return to the big screen following his hit Netflix series "Kingdom." Ha and Ju previously starred together in "Along with the Gods" film franchise. In January, the two are set to star in Tving reality show "Bros on Foot."

New drama news *Maybe*

Back in Sep last year, webtoon SevereTraumaCenter: Golden Hour was confirmed to be adapted into a drama with JuJihoon named as leading cast. New update says that his agency confirming he is reviewing the offer to star

@backstreetboysfan  thanks for sharing this. If Ju Ji Hoon does join the show, he’ll be stepping into the role of Baek Sang Hyuk, a genius surgeon in charge of the severe trauma center at Hankuk University Hospital. I hope he's taking this role because for me Ju Ji Hoon  is the best candidate for the role. Meanwhile, he is also currently filming a new drama "Blood Free", formerly Dominant Species. Wahhh.............2023 is good! So many things to look forward to for JJH. Also, his new movie "Gentleman"  has recently hit the screen and I guess it's still in Korea's cinemas until now.   :kaching3:   Wait & see......................

*** TVING’s new variety show has dropped a main poster featuring Ha Jung Woo, Joo Ji Hoon, SHINee’s Minho, and Yeo Jin Goo! TVING announced last year the launch of their new road trip variety show “Ticketing With Two Feet”, which follows them on vacation as they explore on behalf of youth who have spent the past few years stuck at home due to COVID-19. This “dream team” will travel to New Zealand and compete missions to earn vacation tickets they can gift to youth. The main poster is filled with colorful moments of the four main cast members who are doing their best to win vacation tickets. This looks fun!

“Ticketing With Two Feet” will premiere on January 20.  :ohboy2:

16 K-Drama Jobs & Beings We Need Again On Screen

If you are an avid K-Drama watcher with over 100 dramas under your belt, you most likely search for dramas with fresh topics to add to your watchlist. While searching for them, you might have a close look at the lead characters. Because if one of the lead characters has a job never seen before then that is one of the best methods to avoid a "deja-vu" feeling.

Even if the occupation of the lead character(s) might not be all in bringing a wind of freshness to the storyline, it can help a lot. Commonly seen jobs are students, office workers (sales), CEO, doctors, police officers/detective, teachers, lawyers, idols,  etc. We love them for sure. However, there were dramas that touched on occupations we'd barely seen before and we want to see more of them!

Look at 16 jobs and beings we would like to see a K-Drama's lead character take/be once more. These might bring the wind of change we are looking for.

Note: This article does not take Korean movies, dramas of less than 6 episodes, web dramas, and dramas released before 2008 into account. This article includes light spoilers.

7. Mountain Ranger

Did you know that Korea is covered 70% by mountains? So there is no wonder why one of Koreans' favorite hobbies is going hiking. Alone, with friends, lovers, or family, they don't miss visiting their beautiful mountains through all four seasons. Their landscapes and colors are eternal paintings that overseas fans love to this.

"Jirisan" with Jun JiHyun and Ju JiHoon was the perfect window into the lives of park rangers and their colleagues working in these mountains. Braving snow storms and brazing fires, or "simply" warning visitors about the dangers of the mountains and regulations. The drama embraced a lot of faces of the ranger work from high-risk situations to their daily work.

A drama on the same topic would be the perfect means to explore other mountains of Korea and not only Jirisan. For example, Hallasan which is an even taller mountain than Jirisan, or Seoraksan which is one of the most beloved mountains by Koreans would be the perfect spot. With a production like "Jirisan" and a high budget, we can hope to visit the forest with its best colors and drone filming.
