As a 10 years homicide detective,  he is ‘the master of the criminal investigation’ who catches the criminal with only his intuition  because  the concept of scientific investigation such as CCTV or the fingerprint identification didn’t exist at the time.  Even though he can act with his fist first instead of talking, with his mom who raised him by herself and his wife Yeon Sook, he carries himself with a deep devotion.

CJH determines to express  through PKH’s part as realistically as possible about the 80’s ‘cold outside and warm inside personality (츤데레)’ character.

In particular there is a high expectation that  CJH’s portray of PKH  would be better than his previous roles like the most charming Gu Wol Ryung, 'Gu Family Book' and Gu Dong Chi, 'Pride and Prejudice'.

He plans to combine the charisma of ‘dark Wol Ryung’ which created ‘Wol Ryung fever’ syndrome  and Gu Dong Chi , a working man with heart with pure love.

All you need is a blistering bromance to anchor a drama and you’re probably guaranteed an entertaining watch. OCN dropped a series of new teasers for Tunnel, and my fave one is the first meeting between Choi Jin Hyuk and Yoon Hyun Min. The police station remains consistent throughout the time leap, thus Choi Jin Hyuk is able to find his way around still in 2017. Kinda love how both men thought the other party was some crazed intruder. Haha.

The new OCN drama hero Choi Jin-hyeok was spotted holding a victim child tightly in his arms.

In "Tunnel - Drama", Choi Jin-hyeok takes on the role of detective Park Gwang-ho who went after a criminal in a tunnel in the year 1886 but crossed a line 30 years later to 2017. He then works with Kim Seon-jae (Yoon Hyeon-min) and Sin Jay (Lee Yoo-young) to track down the criminal from 30 years ago.

While Choi Jin-hyeok is busy trying to catch the criminal, guilt overwhelms him when he witnesses a man staring absentmindedly at his murdered wife and his child is crying behind him. Choi Jin-hyeok takes the child into his arms and gets teary eyed himself. Although he speaks to the man bluntly, he is guilty that he couldn't do anything about the murderer.

The 'hugging' scene was shot for more than 6 hours. The take that day involved the beginning of the 'happening' and the situation that occurs after it. Despite the cruel weather, Choi Jin-hyeok focused on his script and made everyone around him hold their breaths.

The child he held wasn't an actor but a son of the one of the staff members. During the take, Choi Jin-hyeok caused immense tension on the set but as soon as cameras were off, he would return to being 'the nice man' and fooled around with the child, making sure he stayed warm.

This video is funny and humorous and it has a bit of parody(?)    I know this kind of video might not be well translated.   Besides the background of the bygone era(80s)  can be more memorable with Koreans for some reasons. 

**I found something interesting about   오라이.  Someone mentioned whether it might be a parody of famous 트라이 CF  so I checked it out and found it.    First one source explained 오라이 came from ‘all right’ in English  which went through the Japanese pronunciation and then it was converted into Korean as  오라이....

But I don’t know what this word means in this video?   Still it’s kind of funny to see this old CF video.

Hi booha,  so NICE that despite of your busy schedule we could get some updates here from you. Thanks, dear. In Korea, spring lasts from late March to May – sometimes it enters as early as February due to global warming since four decades ago.  Korea’s winter has gradually shortened by up to 14 days over the last 30 years due to global warming according to an analysis by the Korea Meteorological Administration. Oh, will wait for your translation on this - I love it, too!   His drama is nearing - is some are saying that the drama has a similarity with Signal. Personally, I can't comment on this since I haven’t watched ‘Signal although it was one of the most talked-about dramas last year . Well,  ‘time slip’ concept in a drama has been trending nowadays, it's a current trend.I will always be in for CJH. Besides, OCN makes good drama.

CJK mentioned in his latest V Live session (which I missed by 5 minutes...arghhhh)  that he had to go to emergency room the day before and get IV. 

Also, during the press conference, a reporter asked about running scenes and about the condition of his knee. CJK said that he wanted to do his own running scenes and action scenes, but he said he had  to use stunt man to do some scenes. He sounded a bit disappointed. He said that he is currently still getting treatments.

According to one fan who went to see the episode 1-2, she mentioned that CJK acting was superb. Cant wait to see them!!! I plan to see it realtime.

Hi msrose, thanks for sharing these things here.  Oh, good that you're fine now. Good to see you here again & share something with us. I guess he had to get some drips or IV to boost his energy level. There are more K-celebrities who have also reportedly received vitamins this way. ... many of them have reportedly jumped on the liquid ... I guess vitamin drip infusions gain favor in them.  More exhausted people are heading to private clinics and getting hooked up to a vitamin I.V. for their energy-boosting infusion. ... So, he's still under knee-treatment.....I wonder how long this therapy will be, huh? Can't wait to see the drama, too. It's scheduled to debut this Saturday, March 25. @willenette   Hi Thank you for postings   We had a strange winter here too.  We have to be mindful about this global warming.  There are still some people who think the global warming is hoax.  arrr   Btw During PC, CJH stressed that this time-slip in Tunnel is a minor tool and the drama would be about who PKH as a central figure was.    

 

@msrose122   Oh dear  I hope whatever you are under will pass  quickly.   About V Live I still haven’t watched it.  ttutuu  If he had to go to emergency and get an IV, it sounds like the shooting took place in full force with a grueling nonstop march.   We have to remember that Tunnel team had to bring in a different  PDnim in the midst of shooting close to the premiere and Hyukssi had to work as a sole lead in early episodes.  

 I’m sorry to hear that he still needs treatment for his knee.  Recovery from this kind of knee surgery  varies from person to person.   I guess it depends on the condition of the knee injury at the time of surgery.   The sad part is some people never recover completely and have to live with pain and aches.  For CJH’s case, it happened during his basic training.  Maybe he thought it was just knee pain and tried to toughen up with like Advil  and wait out the basic training.  It might be hard to seek out an outside specialist  during basic training.   He must have gone through a really bad time because we were quite shocked to see how he looked in the photo right after the completion of his training. 

 So you want to watch Tunnel live   good for you Hyukssi girl!   I too am getting more excited about Tunnel but I’m not ready for a live watching.  hehe    I’m not good at talking about drama in a lively way but  you seem good at narrative…    I like to read things about the drama but it would be more fun to read  all those bells and whistles about Jin Hyukssi.  haha

I'm happy that most of the reactions were positive about the drama.  I hope this will be a good drama & continues its good ratings. I hope to see more positive feedback as well.  "Tunnel' is a mystery, thriller category & I love it! In cable dramas, 1% of viewer’s ratings are a standard win. Keep in mind that shows from major broadcasting networks tend to receive higher Nielsen ratings than the ones from cable networks because not as many have access to cable channels. Currently, the motto going around the drama industry is “3-EPs.” If a drama doesn’t get good ratings within three episodes it’s unlikely to have a good run later on. Therefore, the lead to the pilot EP is as important as the broadcast itself. Well, despite all the tricks in the industry, in the end a drama’s job is to entertain its audience.

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Tunnel - Drama" Episode 1

"Tunnel - Drama" wastes no time and throws our kind detective, Park Gwang-ho, right into the deep end. A series of murders take place in the otherwise peaceful town of Hwayang and while no one in the force can even fathom the possibility of a serial killer, our hero starts to pick up on the similarities as more and more women die at the hands of the elusive murderer no one can close in on.

The most prominent element of episode one is a promising, honest look at the limitations of the much glorified machismo, which is nice to see from a channel so often reliant on tough action heroes. Gwang-ho (Choi Jin-hyuk) is a typical tough guy of his time, yet his methods and good intentions cannot help him in a society and system which are always one step behind an intelligent murderer. This helplessness makes for some good drama.

The emotions of frustration and guilt that the detective and his peers feel are nicely complemented by another good element of episode one and that is the focus on the victims as people with real, tangible lives. The first half of the episode is not so promising, but it quickly changes as we are shown the emotional cost of loss through everyone involved. It is also encouraging to see the subject handled with respect, given the story's ties to the infamous Hwaseong killings and their aftermath.

At this point I would like to address the time-traveling elephant in the room called "Signal". I admit that some elements feel very similar. We have a dorky detective with a crush played by Lee Si-ah, who also played hero Lee  Jae-han's (Cho Jin-woong) belle in the aforementioned series and this gave me a good laugh. The Hwaseong murders are obviously a common element as well. However, I am pleased to say that this still feels very different so far.

Rather than focusing on the mystery and time element itself, episode one of "Tunnel - Drama" focuses more on the topics I have already mentioned, the cost of dated methods and a villain who is simply ahead of his time. I was hoping that the series would address the importance of growth in law enforcement and it is off to a good start by showing us just how many things and people need to work efficiently.

I have a lot of thoughts after episode one, which is always good. Right now my biggest interest is how the time element will be incorporated. I am also curious about the killer. Has he time traveled before? Could he be the adult version of the high-school killer? Could he be one of the characters we have met, living comfortably in the past? I am intrigued and entertained.

"Tunnel - Drama" is directed by Sin Yong-hwi and Kim Seong-min-I, written by Lee Eun-mi-III and features Choi Jin-hyuk, Yoon Hyeon-min and Lee Yoo-young.

On the latest episode of the OCN weekend drama "Tunnel", Sin Yeon-sook (Lee Si-ah) found out she was pregnant and she thought her husband was dead.

Park Gwang-ho (Choi Jin-hyuk) disappeared and the police looked for him. It wasn't like him to disappear without saying anything which made everyone worried. The situation was even more worrying because there was a murder investigation going on.

Sin Yeon-sook ended up at the tunnel while looking for Park Gwang-ho. She found a bloody rock near the tunnel and a whistle she had given to him. She had to expect the worst.

Sin Yeon-sook passed out on the spot thinking that Park Gwang-ho might be dead. When she came to in the hospital, she got up to go to her husband but the police stopped him. When she insisted, the doctor said, "You're pregnant".
