being on sick leave from office has big advantage of spending your whole day with your beloved Wangja-nim and staring at his Flawless/Gorgeous face:wub::wub::wub: .... and still you want many more such pics to stare more...So my whole day spent very well. And I spazzed the thread like a crazy

Here I have few questions if anyone can shed some light for me:

    1. All the saeguks I have watched so far (Dae Jang Geum, Iljimae, Dong Yi, Arang and Magistrate etc.) have kings addressed as Jeohna but in this show king is called as Peha (as per what i heard) ?

    2. Females costumes of princess and queen, is it Hanbok ? not sure why I found it different than the hanbok in other shows I watched, was it really different or is it my mistake or less observant me to notice something which is not even there

    3. As we know its a time travel drama and HS was not there is history in reality, so is it possible PDnim cant send her back to today's time and she can be with WS (like an alteration to history) ? cause any of such saeguk drama with fictional character ended by disappearance of that character so that it wont alter the reality or history ? can this happen here ?

    4. Next one, I write Lee joon Ki with a K in middle name while i see many other members using G, so which one is correct letter to use for his name. And its not just one but many other charcaters confuse me be it B vs P or vs D ?

    5. Just on funny note... how difficult it would be for makeup artist to give a scare or imprefection to that perfectly - chiseled - flawless face of LJK ? like emotionally how it must be felt to do some thing bad and how difficult using tools to make it that way ?

    1. it's different dynasty and people are saying they called themselves emperor or king, blah blah. they are not sure which one is true, so the writer went with emperor. it's early goryeo dynasty. the current king is the founder.

    2. well, it's goryeo. and hanbok is usually name for the joseon clothes. but "hanbok" probably means Han people's Clothing. Korean is called Han's people. Han clan in a bigger sense? i think it came from WAY BACK three Korean countries all called Han. They were simply called Three Hans together. goryeo's clothing was little bit more influenced by the next-door-country. though people are saying that the drama made it too much like next-door-country, so it's problematic.

    3. HaeSoo is not a real character since her cousin Madam Hae is also fake character. in some trailer, i heard HaeSoo wondering if she could fix the history. i'm not sure how it will go.

    4. using K is how US writes down. G is how it actually sounds. so people use what they wants. ex) Sunggyu, Kyuhyun

    5. well, So's scar is not actually that bad lol i was like WHAT? THAT'S IT?! but i don't know.

Hmm.. I like that theory. Jung is kind of childish in the first 3 eps. Yoo indeed wants a grown up kind of love towards her mother so Jung action doesn't bother him. Their chemistry is no joke. Sometimes it even surpass the 2 otp in a weird creepy kind of way but it's fun to watch it. Hahaha.

i agree! sometimes their chemistry even surpass the main couples. i'm glad somebody likes my theory XD

You go ahead ship them!! It will be awsome. If there was a thread to it, I'll join you. Hahaha.

yes, let's ship them! i ship 3rd prince Yo with his mother! because they have chemistry! they are so interesting to watch. they are the villain couple of this drama. i like how Yo doesn't seem to bother by 14th prince Jung getting all the affection from his mother, but then again that's motherly affection and Yo maybe doesn't need that kind of affection anymore? lol i imagine prince Yo thinking prince Jung as kinda like his son. i don't think the Emperor really bothered to raise the children. so prince Jung was raised by his mother and prince Yo, so prince Jung is like Yo and his mother's child. lol am i going too far? oh well.

Well, there was some lawsuit filed against the writer for Gong for plagiarism. So, it can kind of be concluded that the writer for Gong did not have the rights to remake the drama. I didn't like Gong. Haahahahahaha The only difference was that the female protagonist actually fell and went for 8th prince, not 4th prince. That was the only major main difference in the plot.

is it also made from china or different country? so did it have happy ending?

  5. so i again want to talk about current relationships between characters

8th prince Wang Wook’s affection for Hae Soo grows and so does Hae Soo’s. The Wang Wook’s tender way touches Hae Soo’s heart, and her energetic and deeply understanding caring personalty touches Wang Wook’s heart. There is tension between them and they both know it. So far, they both try to ignore it, but it’s easy to see that they can’t play ignorant for long. As a viewer, i can see their chemistry, and gives me Second Lead Syndrome. There is a trouble of distant cousin being his wife, but in this period, it’s quite common for sisters to get married to same husband, especially to the royalty if he's emperor. not sure about prince. So it’s probably not a big problem as a law, but still it’s awkward to think about even in that period, especially to modern minded Hae Soo. though i guess prince Wook can get divorce. or his wife might die of sickness since she's already weak.

In side note, 10th prince Wang Eun also continues his affection toward Hae Soo, and he’s actually the first person to confess his affection toward her. With miscommunication, he thinks they are kind of couple now, but oh well, he will figure it out soon.

13th’s prince Baek-Ah showed affection toward Lady Hae, 8th prince’s wife. He seems to have no desire to take her away from Wang Wook, but he still continues his affection toward her. It’s interesting relationship, especially since it’s kinda seems to be one-sided. It’s even more interesting in the fact that Wang Wook and Lady Hae don’t really seem to be in love, but just have friendly respectful relationship together.

4th prince and the princess seem to have affection for one another. in that period, even half-siblings royalties did get married to each other, so it’s not that weird for them to have affection.

3rd prince Wang Yo’s relationship with his mother is very interesting. He has gotten his mother’s attention, but it's not exactly affection, so he unconsciously wants more affection and that desire creates his enormous affection toward his mother, which gives him oedipus complex. It’s different than 4th prince, Wang So’s affection toward his mother, but perhaps similar in twisted way. perhaps it’s understandable because Wang Yo was raised to become a future emperor, which is his mother’s ambition, and that kind of attention is not exactly affection. It’s 14th prince, Wang Jung who has gotten the true affection from his mother. and he’s the only innocent one among three brothers from the same mother.

4th prince, Wang So seems to have killed the mercenaries, before others arrive to capture them, so that Wang So can hide his mother’s handling behind the scene from the others. despite his mother’s coldness toward him, he continues to desire her affection. Wang So has love and hate affection toward her, but love is strong for him. he knows his mother doesn’t care for him, but he resists and continues to ask for affection. it’s interesting, but before his face was hurt, i am sure he had gotten love from his mother. perhaps that old memories cling to Wang So that there might be still hope for his mother to still love him. it’s incredible sad to see.

    ---

i rewatched Prince Yo's scenes with his mother. their first scene alone together where 3rd prince Yo holds his mask. he walks around his mother and at the end, when he sat down besides his mother and assures her to don't worry. his voice is lively and almost seems like excited confident young kid. it's first time i see him being actually happy and lively. it's different from his snicker by seeing his younger brothers like 10th prince Eun.

the second scene, the bathroom? scene. it has different atmosphere than before. i don't understand what the director is trying to say. first of all, prince Yo just enters her bathroom without much care. and she just finished bathing like a second ago. i especially don't understand the director when there is scene of Yo staring at his mother when she's still dressing up, then he takes a towel from a servant, and talks with his mother while drying his mother's hair in the bathroom alone together. and also, drying her hair is what the servant should do, but prince Yo is doing it. and the close up of prince Yo stopping her from trying to pour a cup of tea herself. it shows Yo's respect and affection for his mother, but still i don't know why, but it has similar feels as Hae Soo and 8th prince Wook's fingers touching. also, i notice how Yo mostly use formal words but seldom use informal words to his mother when they're alone together. when he uses informal words, it gives feels of closeness but quite different feel than when 14th prince Jung talks to his mother, and prince Jung doesn't use informal words to his mother. and then there is mother stroking prince Yo's face while they stare at one another, then director shows them in a large picture with lots of candles surrounding them and reminding us that they are still in the bathroom alone together.

even during confrontation with Yo and So. Yo was confident and easily lied that he knows nothing and did nothing, but when So asks if it was his mother's doing, Yo freezes and when he recovers, he tries to deny it, but his shaking eyes gave away the answer to So. it shows that Yo's weakness is his mother.

i am telling you. the director is doing this on purpose.

Kind of out of topic, but since we're on the discussion of mother and son love, have any of you guys ever seen or read "The Tale of Genji"? It's where the prince falls in love with his step mother because his step mother looks like his real mother. It is actually quite interesting. Anyways, please excuse my off-topic subject. :D

heard of it, but never read it. that's interesting.

That too! And still in the bathing quarters too, wasn't it? I'm not great with history, much less Goryeo history, but I would have thought it not allowed or frowned upon for him to be in there with her, even if he is her son. He's male and grown and she's female and the queen. Yikes. lol

not sure, but i guess so? the son is grown up after all. but i like to watch this kind of relationship. it's more interesting to watch. XD makes the character more complex. like oedipus complex lol anyway, since he got attention from her because she has ambition of making his son emperor, but that's different from affection. the mother is giving her actual affection to only her third son. this creates 3rd prince Yo and 4th prince So to desire affection from their mother. but because circumstances are different, So desires actual motherly affection while Yo unconsciously? desires something more. for now, since it's very subtle, i'm thinking that Yo doesn't know about his own desire toward his mother.

  8. ok, so i mixed things up with Goryeo culture and Joseon culture.

early Goryeo emperor could have several wives and concubines because of politics (WangGun married a lot of wives to unite the clans), and later Goryeo emperor also had several wives and concubines, but it kinda got complicated because of Yuan dynasty influence. however, for others, they have one husband one wife law. but they can divorce and remarry easily. i think it probably was one husband one wife law for the princes too? also the women could have strong power and money.

Joseon can have one wife and concubines. the men hold strong power and money.

  9. wait, Prince Wook is not an emperor, so i guess he can't have concubine. i mean i think even most of emperor's wives are kinda equal as all wives. oh yeah, either his wife dies, or they need to divorce. women could easily get remarried. and some even became empress in their remarriage. i am keep mixing goryeo culture with joseon culture T.T goryeo had one husband one wife law. but they can divorce and remarry easily. omg, then it's kinda >.>

I actually really like Hae Soo's cousin and I hope she doesn't die. She doesn't seem to love Wang Wook, but she doesn't hate him either. There's a graceful and quiet respect for him and they talk and interact really well with each other. (Unlike in the C-version)

i agree. i don't want her to die. if i can make the ending, i want those three to be together and live happily after. and yeah, prince and his wife don't love each other, but they have respect for one another.

I'm telling myself not to fall for this guy, because he has a wife and is about to start something with his wife's cousin, but but but..

i guess the viewers would have trouble watching it. but for Wang Wook, it's not that a big problem. by the law, he can get married to Hae Soo making her his concubine. in this period, sisters get married to same man and half-siblings get married to each other, especially among royalties. but for the viewer's sake and modern Hae Soo's sake, prince's wife would probably die of sickness. we already see the hints of his wife being very weak.

That's exactly what I feel. I feel very curious about him but untul Ep 3 the information about him is soo minimum (even when we compare to other Princes, he is the vilain right?)...

yes, i think 3rd prince Yo is the villain. yeah, i want more information on him. but his relationship with his mother is soooo interesting. i feel vibe of oedipus complex.

This is just me but why is the 3rd prince wearing earrings lol. I mean im trying not to focus but its like right there. One side i get but both?

Earrings are actually Goryeo fashion. Men both wear makeup and earrings.

early Joseon period men also actually wore earrings but they stopped when king ordered to never wear them. of course, most people didn't even listen, but i guess it died out.

  15. i just finished watching the 3rd episode, and all i can say is SECOND LEAD SYNDROME

4th prince is an interesting character, but i don't ship him with Hae Soo

i really ship her with Wang Wook! they have great chemistry! and i love forbidden love~ well, actually it's not even forbidden at that time period, so I SHIP THEM SO MUCH MORE!

i also ship BaekAh with Madam Hae! let these four live together and live happily ever after! polyamory, anyone?

Wang Yo is also a very interesting character, especially regarding his relationship with his mother. to be honest, i am more interest in him than 4th prince, Wang So.

Been lurking for a while and had no intention to join soompi but I had to just to say this, I DISAGREE.

Calling KC's decision unheroic is demeaning his great character here. More than YJ who only had to sacrifice her love, KC decided to give up his love, his free will and his knowledge/self-awareness for what he believed is for the greater good, for his friends and for YJ. The fact that he willingly reached out to SM and gave SM control over his life once more despite that scene in Sohee's room where he mourned their one track purpose is so powerful. If this series ended with ep 8 he would still be a hero. If he was willing to give that much surely our heroine can try to give as much.

The decrease in ratings imo could be because there are so many questions that the writer might answer later on but at this point even I think its too much to keep track of. I can only go wtf so many times before I bow out and let the series finish before continuing.

THIS! for me, KC's was very selfless heroic sacrifice that if I was him, would be really hard to make. i also think that that was the best idea at the time, especially counting the very little information that he had at the moment.

  17. I really hope Yeon Joo's parents DO NOT get together. The father seems like he still has problems, especially after watching the meeting between Chul and him. The father was acting like he wanted to get shot by Chul. Also, there is no mention of father being sorry to his wife. He seems to only care about the daughter. Being divorce is not fun and not easy, especially in Korea, it's frowned upon even more so when the child is still so young. If mother divorced him despite all these, then she must REALLY want to divorce him.

I don't want another divorced parents getting back together without any problems getting sorted out.

anyway, the drama is getting more exciting each time!!!

  18. It's ridiculous, but i wish there are more scenes with SN and TT. I wish there will be scene that happens outside of the palace maybe because of some big events like festivals. Then the villains (whoever at the time, but not yet BA) put trap to kill SN. BA, TT and others figure it out little bit late, so the disaster begins. Then BA and TT are fighting separately, but notice SN in danger at the same time. TT acts faster and saves SN, but gets hurt in the process, and then they both roll down somewhere beneath. SN wakes up right after the fall, but TT remains fainted, so SN gets to take care of him until BA finds them. During that moment, SN thanks TT for saving her when he wakes up (he is still weak), but she gets pissed off when he said he saved her because he and BA risked their clan on SN. SN asks TT if she means only that to him, faith of his clan. Then TT gets angry and tells her that faith of his clan is not just "only that." Faith of his clan means both BA and TT's lives and his relatives' future. It means everything to him, so SN is not just only faith of his clan to him; she means everything to him.
Oh my god, i am writing a fanfiction. XD Actually, i wish there are fanfictions of SN+TT couple. I need them!

@chrissydiva - LMAO, exactly right. Concubine Seol-hwa is now puppy Emperor's property. Unfortunately for her, she's doomed to a life inside the Yuan Palace and can't leave. She also can't be with any other man or she'd be killed. Poor thing. :-S
@louisawatson - I hate that too but I don't think anyone here is unable to separate the actor from the fictional character they're playing. Are you talking about netizens? Is there some huge problem going on with the actors in EK or something?  :-/
