[Cut from Interview] Song Hye Kyo "I often meet Writer Noh Hee Kyung and we chat for 6 hours
What kind of relationship does an actor and writer have? Sometimes it’s that of a teacher and pupil, or they even become friends and enemies.For Actress Song Hye Kyo, who has worked with Writer Noh Hee Kyung in the 2008 KBS 2 TV drama, Worlds Within (Hereafter Worlds), and in the recently concluded, That Winter, The Wind Blows (hereafter That Winter), she has formed an extraordinary relationship with the writer.
“On that day, I met Writer Noh and we chatted lightly. But, Writer Noh started talking about the project. When I listened to Writer Noh talking about it, at first I did not understand. I wondered ‘Why does Writer-nim want to do a re-make? I do not thoroughly understand Writer-nim’s point of view’ so, of course, I asked.”
That Winter is a rebirth of the 10 part Japanese drama that aired in 2003, I Don’t Need Love, Summer. It was also remade into a popular Korean movie, so Korean fans were already well aware of the drama’s material and directing.
“Writer-nim showed confidence as she told me, ‘Let’s try it.’ She also said, ‘I’m going to create a project that is totally different from the previous work. I will create a project that many people can enjoy and that will draw the public in.’ Then I answered, ‘Okay, then I only believe in Writer-nim and Director-nim, and will follow along.’”
Truthfully, even before Writer Noh wrote the script for That Winter, she kept Song Hye Kyo in mind. When she was creating the character of Oh Young, she occasionally saw the cynical expression that Song Hye Kyo made as her character in Worlds Within and used that basis in her creation.
“Writer Noh said she would say to herself, ‘Did Song Hye Kyo have this kind of expression?’ It’s the sharp expression I did, she said it would be good if you could execute that kind of expression in the drama.”
Song Hye Kyo also explained, “It seems she cast me to fill what was missing in the character during Worlds. For this project, writer-nim wanted to fully create cinematic quality and character.”
“When the project finished and I heard such praise as ‘The rediscovery of Song Hye Kyo’s acting,’ It felt really good. I never once monitored myself and thought I did well. But, it was great I was able to show the mystery vibe inside me that I wasn’t able to express previously.”
That Winter was the result of a blend of affection and trust towards each other.
For Song Hye Kyo, Noh Hee Kyung wanted to fill the gaps that were left out in the original work, while also giving her a character she could dress. In a work that she didn’t quite understand herself, Song Hye Kyo just believed in Noh Hee Kyung and followed along to the best of her ability.
Their affection and trust made an already glorious work into an even more beautiful ‘That Winter.’ Like the wind of Song Hye Kyo, it will linger long in our memory and be remembered as a drama that touched our hearts.

p/s: Just like some of you, there are many "first" time (records) happened to me when/watching TWTWB. For the first time, I wake up in the early in the morning to follow a kdrama, watched a kdrama without subs (watched Ep 14 & 15 when I had a trip in Korea, what a coincidence), follow their news, post comments in the forums, rewatch kdrama without getting bored ... When I rewatched Episode 15 Part 1 where OS shared his feeling with Hee Sun when leaving OY's house, I heard the song played in the restaurant was
(well-known Capable man in Running Man). I wonder whether if they purposely chose this song for any reason? The lyrics are sweet which I think making JIS even hard to act when hearing it. (He said in a interview that this scene was the most difficult for him to act). Just would like to share part of the lyrics!
