  1. Her 2 memorable drama characters that i like it a lot, no "damsel in distress" input, well written characters. How i wish she can get another opportunities with other talented actors in her previous dramas, such as Jang seung jo and Son ho jun, she also has undeniable chemistry with them, any kind of roles will do, i don't mind if she has to play brother and sister again with Son ho jun, gotta love with their bickering so much :loolz:.

  2. A review for Josée, might help you in case want to watch it at your nearby theater.

“Josée” Movie Review: An unorthodox pure love

    Josée (2020)
    PG / 1h 57mins
    Opens 10 Dec / 4.0 ★

Based on the 2003 Japanese box office hit “Josée: The Tiger and The Fish”, the homonymous remake is sombre, and not your typical feel-good Korean movie per se. But a thought-provoking one, no less.

Sharp-eyed viewers might have noticed that the Korean filmmakers shortened the title to “Josée”, to put more emphasis on Josée’s world. Though “The Tiger and The Fish” was taken out, they still get a fair share of appearance throughout the film.

They are metaphorical representations of various elements in the movie. The tiger signifies “nightmares”, Josée’s biggest fear. Fishes trapped in vast aquarium tanks are pretty much Josée herself, as she is trapped in her small hut everyday, as she is physically disabled.

But Han Ji-min, who portrays Josée, hopes that “people will see the movie as a love story with a disabled character but as a love story between Josee and Young-seok.”

    still_02.jpg?w=1024

That’s not the only thing that changed. Minor twists to the plot were made, or “there would be no value to present something that maps out like the original film to the viewers,” director Kim Kim Jong-kwan says at an online press conference.

The premise of the story, and the emotions of the protagonists, though, stays deep-rooted.

A fateful encounter between Young-seok (Nam Joo-hyuk) and Josée (Han Ji-min) piqued Young-seok’s interest in Josée. An orphan from young, Josée spends time with her grandma at the outskirts of Seoul, immersing herself into the world of books. The love story between Young-seok and Josée develops.

    sh-still_07.jpg?w=1024

The plot does not have a climax, nor a big twist. It is, even, a slow one to put focus on their relationship development, giving the audience ample time to get closer to the characters.

Han, too, had difficulty getting into Josée’s world initially. “Josee experiences the world through books and expresses things differently”, she said.

Their relationship might not have ended off with a fairy-tale like “happily ever after”, but neither was it a hateful breakup. If anything, their unorthodox relationship offered comfort to me and presented love in its purest form.

A remake of the 2003 Japanese movie, Josee, the Tiger and the Fish, Josée is about a romance transcending social class between Yong Seok (Nam Joo Hyuk), a university senior student, and Josée, (Han Ji Min), an orphaned, disabled young woman.

This would be the second time that Start-up (2020) hottie Nam Joo Hyuk will be acting alongside Han Ji Min since their last drama Radiant in 2019. This would also be Nam’s first breakthrough film as the romantic lead in a movie, signalling a career shift towards more serious acting for the former model. Viewers would be familiar with Han Ji Min from drama hits like Rooftop Prince (2012) and The Light In Your Eyes (2019).

The story begins with Yong Seok finding Josée sprawled by a side road, having fallen from her electric wheelchair which had a broken wheel. He goes out of his way to acquire a cart to take the disabled young girl home. She speaks and even thanks him in informal speech, which is considered rude in Korean society especially when talking to strangers.

Yong Seok’s efforts are rewarded with a rather rustic and unappetising meal that Josée’s grandmother whips up for him in the large and ramshackle house that the two of them live in, filled with hoarded goods and empty bottles. He leaves after unenthusiastically accepting the meal, perhaps obliging only because of the fact that Josée is rather attractive.

    An unlikely relationship springs forth

The class separation between Yong Seok and Josée could not be clearer. Yong Seok is a young university school senior in engineering with promising job prospects. Josée lives in abject poverty, unable to work because of her disability, and has no citizen identification. Her grandmother scavenges for cardboard and recyclables to eke out a meagre day-to-day living.

A remake of the 2003 Japanese movie, Josee, the Tiger and the Fish, Josée is about a romance transcending physical and social class spaces between Yong Seok (Nam Joo Hyuk), a university senior student and an orphaned, disabled young woman Josée, (Han Ji Min) who is cared for by her grandmother. (Still courtesy of Golden Village Pictures)

An unlikely relationship blossoms between the two, as Yong Seok continues to visit Josée despite her protestations. He finds out Josée is a voracious reader, and has fabricated a whole made-up fantasy world of her own to escape the realities of her hopeless situation.

Enraptured by her uncommon looks and incredible delusions, Yong Seok tries to understand her world and lift her out of her poverty through engaging social workers and Seoul’s resources for the disabled.

But for Josée, these new feelings of affection and attachment are foreign to her, holding both the unfamiliar emotions of pain and pleasure as she grapples with her insecurities and situation, inwardly wondering if anyone could love someone as broken and unwanted as her.

Yet, the film ends on a sad and abrupt note. Josée and Yong Seok supposedly go to Scotland after an unexpected time-skip, but it is revealed that Josee goes there alone, or not at all; perhaps it was all in her head? Yong Seok gets together with his old crush Soo Kyung and they are about to be happily married.

    The verdict

The movie does incredibly well expressing the early stages of romantic attraction between two very different people from different backgrounds. Nam Joo Hyuk’s refreshing youthfulness and enthusiasm lends a powerful charm in contrast to the self-deprecating and insecure snarkiness of Han Ji Min’s character. But it seems like the movie completely ignored the climax and went straight into an abrupt time-skip, skating over what actually happened between the two of them.

Josée succeeds on multiple levels, but it just felt like the director ran out of steam towards the end and just wanted to finish it without proper closure or even a climax. It made the message of the movie seem like disabled people are not deserving of love and keeping it; the reason for Yong Seok leaving Josée was painfully unclear and unresolved.

It is an unfortunate and rather tragic end for a movie that had so much potential.

I don't think that's han ji min in the photo. As you can see the owner tag someone that similar/resemblance to hjm (you can check the ig of the girl). The hashtag of hjm doesn't mean it's her. We need to be careful of someone's post, because they could just want to show that their relatives has a resemblance to some celebrities. ☺️

  6. Hi all! Long time no see. So han ji min got a coffee/snack truck from ryu seung ryong :). Perhaps their acquaintances  because of Director of Miss baek, Lee ji won. I read some of articles ryu seung ryong just accepted a main role for a new project of director lee ji won. I hope han ji min could act along side him too in that project, doesn't matter how bigger the role is.

ryu seung ryong is such a very nice person and actor, i happened to watch his several movies. And as few days ago, i just check his instagram out, and he follows han ji min ig, well unfortunately hjm hasn't follow him back. Hope they can act together in the near future.

  7. i'm still not a fan of her hairdo at blue dragon awards, it could be better, but it was better than before, they put some effort to it. *sorry for not easily satisfied*:sweatingbullets:  i've got this displeasure after seeing Lee Young Ae overall mesmerizing/stand out/ dazzling look at the same event, simple style yet bring out the best of the actress' charm. *sorry again for comparing*. i don't intend to compare or belittle nor underestimate han ji min's beauty, but perhaps the stylist team could done better.

the disappointment also came from the "hair extension" again, they did it again, now i'm pretty sure they're not just use it for endorsing purpose, it was because for the best look of the dress. the second one is the dress, i don't mind white dress or bright color dresses, but once again they overuse it, too many times, i hope the stylist have a little bit of dare or try innovative idea for her look in the future, not playing safe all the time. :( now i'm getting tired of their style for making her look like "goddess of innocent", for many fans yes it's always a pleasure, but some like me i grew tired of this kind of look.

the feeling was the same goes when i follow news of hollywood actresses, grew tired when they stick to only just a single image every single project.

thank goodness han ji min did not like that for picking a role for her projects. so i guess i'm just gonna stick for her drama/movie projects only, instead of following her awards or gala events and commenting her dresses, no more.:pensive:

to me her best looks this year are all comes from her CFs or Magazine portraits.

this one from "movie room" program at JTBC. (Miss Baek)

[HanCinema's News] Director Lee Ji-won-IV Talks About Han Ji-min and "Miss Baek"

    photo1124110.jpg

On the November 17th broadcast of the jTBC variety program 'Movie Room' director Lee Ji-won-IV of "Miss Baek" appeared as a special guest. Following a leading question as to whether "Miss Baek" had a poor box office showing due to its women-centered subject matter, Lee Ji-won-IV confirmed that it was difficult moving the project forward even with Han Ji-min in the title role.

According to Lee Ji-won-IV the casting of Han Ji-min was unexpected in the first place. During the planning stages of "Miss Baek" she had never imagined Han Ji-min for the leading role. Lee Ji-won-IV described a serendipitous encounter with Han Ji-min in the wake of her appearing in "The Age of Shadows", where the actress appeared all in black. This moment, according to Lee Ji-won-IV, made her seem perfect for the role.

Lee Ji-won-IV also explained Han Ji-min's enthusiasm for the project, noting that the actress's wrinkles were on screen as they were in real life. Lee Ji-won-IV mentioned that some six hundred actresses were considered for the role of Kim Si-ah, including more famous ones, but that ultimately Kim Si-ah was considered the best choice. Lee Ji-won-IV mentioned that originally she had also wanted the child actor part to go to someone new.

    photo1124109.jpg

Lee Ji-won-IV discussed the meticulous research that went into the project as well. Though "Miss Baek" shocked many with its frank description of violence against children, Lee Ji-won-IV insisted that she wasn't even able to use one percent of what she had learned. There was a careful line to strike to keep the violence realistic without becoming too cartoonish.

Shooting conditions similarly had to be kept pleasant to minimize hostility between performers who sometimes had to act very viciously with one another on set. Lee Ji-won-IV mentioned hugs as being necessary to prevent too much antagonism between co-stars.

Parents mentioned treating their children better after filming, and Lee Ji-won-IV also described the origin of the scenario being about hearing violent sounds in the home next to hers and later learning that the child had to be hospitalized for a broken leg. Lee Ji-won-IV expressed hope that the film could inspire communities to be more vigilant about such sad stories in real life.

However i need to get this out of off my head :sweatingbullets:, i literally lost of words for the style she/ her stylist chose, especially her hairstyle (ANOTHER WIG WEARING???!!).

I understand the concept they wanted to try, innocent/youthful look with retro inspired or maybe they wanted to try classy style but it fail me :(.

I'm so sorry for being critical here, but they need to move on or try different look for her, if possible suit her style with her age too. Sophisticated or classy look to me are best for her at this time. I feel disappointed of her style these days :expressionless:, at event like this she needs to shake off her innocent image that she got from dramas (why o why ji min??).

Lastly, another wig/hair extension?? again?? i guess that's due to her dress choice, if only she chose a dress that way more sophisticated or classy, she didn't have to wear a wig. They could do a hairdo instead of simply putting a wig/hair extension on her head:unamused:. It seems that her stylist has limited idea when it comes to styling a short hair. There are so many references they could use *shaking my head*. Hope that her stylist and hjm can do better on choosing a style in the near future.

For me, this style is the worst from head to toe. And best look of han ji min for recent award events was at london festival event, she was effortless beautiful with the purple dress and simple hair do.

Once again, i'm sorry for my complain, i guess my expectation was too high so i got disappointed because her style didn't look appealing to me.:sweatingbullets:

    random moments at the event

han ji min seated between kim nam gil and jung hae in.

hjm and jhi shared the prize they got with kim nam gil, lee ha nee, and jin seon kyu.

Side note: han ji min and jin seon kyu are adorable how they become quite chatty over snacks.

Lee Byung Hun, Han Ji Min, Shin Min Ah, Nam Joo Hyuk to be in 1 drama

The new work "Here" (working title) by screenwriter Noh Hee Kyung has completed its superb cast.

Apart from the story revolving around an NGO - an international non-profit non-governmental organization - the information about "Here" has still been kept confidential. However, as a new work of screenwriter Noh Hee Kyung, who created famous dramas conveying profound social messages, "Here" has soon received much attention and anticipation of the audience.

In the meantime, the cast of "Here" was revealed, promising to make the public more eagerly look forward to the drama. From Lee Byung Hun - Korea's top actor who is actively working in dramas and movies, Han Ji Min - the "reliable actress that worth watching" in any genres, Shin Min Ah - the girl who always shows her personality through diverse charisma, Bae Sung Woo - the actor adding depth to the work thanks to his genuine acting, to Nam Joo Hyuk - the guy winning the mass' hearts with mature image, all of them created a perfect combination in terms of acting ability as well as star quality.

Currently, it's still unknown about what characters the above actors will take in the drama. However, "Here" marks the collaboration between the production team and the actors who are highly expected only by their names, so right this early, the audience has already been curious about the synergy of the 5 actors and screenwriter Noh Hee Kyung.

"Here" - scriptwriter Noh Hee Kyung's new work starring Lee Byung Hun, Han Ji Min, Shin Min Ah, Bae Sung Woo, and Nam Joo Hyuk - expectedly will start shooting in 2020.

Noh Hee-kyung’s new humanitarian drama announces stellar lineup

    by tineybeanie

    nhk_lbhA.jpg
    Shin Mina, Lee Byung-heon

According to the latest reports, Lee Byung-heon (Mr. Sunshine) and Han Ji-min (One Spring Night) have joined Noh Hee-kyung’s next drama, along with Shin Mina (Chief of Staff), Bae Sung-woo (Live), and Nam Joo-hyuk (Nurse Teacher Ahn Eun-young). Called HERE, the drama is about a humanitarian nonprofit NGO and the people that work there.

Other than its title and setting, there’s nothing that has been revealed. Everything has been kept under a tight seal of secrecy, which has provoked even more interest in this drama.

What is known is the amazing quality of the casting lineup. All powerhouses in their own right, these actors have featured in some of my favorite dramas and movies. And because of their long histories in the entertainment world, they’ve all had chances to work with each other in some capacity or another. Earlier this year, Nam Joo-hyuk and Han Ji-min starred in fantasy melo The Light in Your Eyes together. Lee Byung-heon and Han Ji-min both featured in period movie Age of Shadows, and earlier on in her career when she was a child actress, Han Ji-min played the younger counterpart to Lee Byung-heon’s lover in All In.

Likewise, Shin Mina and Lee Byung-heon also crossed paths very early in their respective careers in the drama Beautiful Days, which catapulted Lee Byung-heon into mainstream heartthrob status. More recently, Shin Mina and Bae Sung-woo were both in romantic comedy film My Love, My Bride, and finally, Nam Joo-hyuk and Bae Sung-woo starred together in award-winning historical film The Great Battle.

Just based on the actors and screenwriter, it looks like the drama is off to a great start. Filming is set to begin in early 2020.

Sad that jo in sung turned down the offer:tears: I really want ji min to work with him

Me too. Now i was wondering what kind of schedule conflict that he has for next year?!? :sweat_smile:Oh my?! cos as i know he doesn't have many schedule for filming, in fact he is filming a movie project alongside kim yun seok at this moment.

If LBH and HJM confirm, this project will remark the third time han ji min and lee byung hun will be acting together again! however i have this slightly doubt in LBH for accepting a drama project so soon. But who knew right!?:D

  19. @richelle yes i thought you're saying that she's confirmed for appeared in the movie.

But i really think that the first news of her joining is true.

can you share the link of the news? as far as i read, there're only news about she's getting an offer, not casted.

as for a remake movie, these days making a remake movie is also a trend in hollywood. however, not all remake movies got good receptions. apparently it was because many of the viewers not familiar with the original movie which was released in year that many of them are still too young and didn't familiar with the trend also. so many of the filmmaker tried to remake movie and fit the theme to current issues or trend in today society, and it's been the key to success to many remake movies.

so i'm not completely objecting this project. i just hope the director or the writer could make the movie that fit in today society (and particularly in korea society) and not completely copy the original story, cause i've watched the original, and to me it will hard for the production to pleased today audience with the original storyline. now i wonder what kind of story will they produce. the only downside is the characters are young adult, i'm not that excited with this element. it's because han ji min has to reprise the same age role as in The light in your eyes. other than that, hjm's character is a disable young woman, which is another good opportunity for her to explore her acting skills.

so yes, i have mix reaction for this project, and probably more like unexcited.

but finger crossed to this project to be a good one :tounge_xd:

I guess our ji min is confirmed for josee.

is there any news report that she has been confirmed?? :o cos i couldn't find any news related to that. we have to be sure about information these days, as we know it could get bad if it's just a rumour. everything we share in this digital era can spread so fast even nobody could stop it:sweat_smile:

as for the picture with the director, it was taken around 'the age of shadows' year as i remember. i already know that han ji min acquainted to the director since his movie premiere starring Lee hee joon and a rookie actress from the age of shadows as well. after that han ji min also attended his movie premiere starring Jung eun chae (her costar from The fatarl encounter. that is why ever since the news of her being offer for casting came out, i got a hunch it was influenced by the director.

however it all depends on han ji min. so it's still not sure yet whether or not she's already agree to join. well we can wait until her interview with W Korea magazine came out. cos she always give the information to public whenever she was interviewed. be patient for the valid news to come out
