  1. It is true that the last couple of episodes left a lot of questions unanswered, since the premise was that all the demons were there to help SJ seek light in this dark world, where there would be an epic battle with all the evil gathering at one place to fight against this motley gang. In the end, its really seemed like just a collection of love story with sad endings.

However, the point that interest me was Oh Yeon Seo protrayal of Jin Sun Mi, who until the last meeting with SOG, always seemed a little tense and even unsure of herself. The morning after scene where they were wrapped in the sheet was even a little awkward I thought. I am not an actress, but there appeared was none of that normally seen head resting/burying on the neck of SOG next to her. None of that shy smile since it was her first time. None of that meeting of the eyes. Perhaps( this is only to satisfy my own logic), there is always a conflict in her about her love and fear of SOG and the future. She had just thrown her lot in with a demon controlled by a bracelet..so many questions must pass through her mind...so many fears that must be locked up.Maybe OYS protrayal of JSM was really more realistic than so many gave her credit for. In the last scene with SOG, when the bracelet finally came off, I thought when she said that she loved him, there was more 'chemistry'. Poor JSM, so determined to live well inspite of her being rejected and alone, really did have a sad life.

  2. I didn't watch every episode early in the drama because I was not comfortable with so many demons and evil spirits  flying around, Yes, I am a scaredy cat. However, after episode18 , I watched some of them and it does seem like an epic love story. The demon who was 'humanised' because of love for this woman and the woman whose heart and mind don't have the same logic. Her mind warns her( even as his friends told her repeatedly) that she should not love a demon but her heart so wants to be loved and cared for. So many women I know, marry men who are 'bad boys' and may not even suit them because 'he loves me'. Given SM childhood of loneliness and rejection from others, to be loved must be so over whelming and given her giving nature, its hard to fight her heart. Oh Yeon Seo acting, attracted a lot of criticism but to me, given the character's assumptions, she seems right in the way she played SJ. Seunggi's character shines brighter because of SJ's seemingly more unexciting personality. The love story developed over so many many episodes and so many events but it would be hard to beleive that she would just jump into bed with a demon when her expereince with them and life had been such bad ones. Even for him, until Epi 18, he was not sure if his love was due to an object or was engraved into his heart since he is a inherently selfish demon afterall.

  3. I think the character of Haesoo is more heart than brains, which to me explains how she seemingly behaves so naively and often rushing in where 'angels fear to thread' in the palace, even though she claimed that she is smart and a quick learner. Her past history points to that as she had lost her house, and her boyfriend to her best friend and only found out when she accidentally witnessed their meeting.

The great fear of being raped on the night of the supposed wedding to the king, caused Haesoo to cut herself to get out of the situation. The actress, IU seems to be a quiet introvert by nature and perhaps that's why I often struggle to read the depth of emotions, even in that situation. I really like her but nevertheless, sometimes I understand the criticism thrown at her. But I have less problem with her supposedly vacant, wide eyed, 'deer caught in the head light ' look when Wang So forced Haesoo to look at him at the end of ep7..it just look wide eyed and child like to me. at first a little fearful but it relaxed a bit to just look into his eyes.

Wang So's scar, I think, should be what some writers may describe as 'red and angry' and perhaps  the make up artist should have done that for  a more shocking effect on viewers. Nevertheless, the feelings associated with a scar across on the face must at least be that one always feel that others are looking at it. And in Wang So's case the feeling of alienation of being  looked at as an object with horror and fascination, is heightened with his dysfunctional 'family' and abandonment.

I  wish the music and editing are better because so much have gone into the backdrop, clothes etc to create the right atmosphere and the came the incongruent effect of the music and in ep 7 there was suddenly, a scene of Wang Soo in a classroom standing up to pour out the water that the teacher was demonstrating..end of scene.. jump back to him talking to the general, in his 'sporting' gear. I often felt a shout to sack the music  and editing team coming out at the back of my brain.

  4. I think Haesoo has behaved  well as far as Wang Wook is concerned. Yes, her feelings were stirred by him, his kindness and appearance but after the moment when he wanted to kiss her, she did keep her distance as far as possible, she did not stalk him or sought him out, she tried hard to control her mind and thoughts about him either by focusing on his wife or even thinking about him as a landlord and it was always she who always broke away from his grasp or his hand. That, I think would be what is expected of a sensible person who wants to not further or may want to even end a relationship.

It was a credit to Haesoo's integrity that she took responsibility for her own actions, although there were some mitigating factors, from my viewpoint. The first quoted by her was, taking his hand when she first came into the palace. At that moment she was bewildered and crying and he went in as 'family' and master of the house to assure her ( who supposedly had lost her memory) by offering his hand to her. It was an innocent act on her part that she took his hand, as a child would. The second quoted by her was ,she came out of her room when he came with the balm. In this case, I think if any of the princes had gone to see her , she would have gone out as well cause she was angry and hurt that people with no standing would be tied and beaten like animals in that place. Yes, her feelings for him might have caused her to run out at the last momnet and it would have been much better if she had not gone out. Yes, she needn't and shouldn't have given him the piece of soap but although she is supposedly 24 years old, I think those of us who are much older can remember our foolishness at that age. Wang Wook  being a man of the world, older and married , and with authority in his household should be the one who should have kept his eyes and mind in better control and had ordered circumstances so that they would never be alone together if he did not want to be tempted. Why did he hang around outside her room with the balm, or given her the poem or only sought for her face when they were visiting the palace etc etc? He was the one chasing after her, with no good ending in sight at that time. In modern times, if a married, rich man behaves like that towards a vulnerable, single young lady like that, we might have called him a scum bag.

I hope against hope, that the story would not be as dark and heart breaking as the Chinese version, and the writer has taken creative license to give us a happy ending somehow. Oh! for Haesoo and Wang So to be together and happy ever after!
