  2. Tony Leung, Wong Kar-wai Team Up Once Again For ‘The Grandmaster’

Koream Journal, News Report, Posted: Aug 27, 2013

The story centers around the titular character Ip Man, a Wing Chun grandmaster best known in the West for being the teacher of martial arts legend Bruce Lee. The film stars Tony Leung in the title role along with Zhang Ziyi, Chang Chen and mixed martial arts fighter Cung Le.

Korean actress Song Hye-kyo plays Ip Man’s wife, who suffers with him through the Sino-Japanese War in 1930s Foshan, during a more idyllic period of Ip Man’s life before he’s exiled to Hong Kong. (Song learned Mandarin for this role, a skill she will continue to use for her role in John Woo’s upcoming shipwreck epic The Crossing, which is being called “China’s version of Titanic.”)

Director Wong Kar-wai is known for his intense, free-fall style of filming, where the actors often don’t even receive the script beforehand. (At The Grandmaster‘s screening in July, Wong joked that people think he doesn’t have a script, but really, his scripts just aren’t finished until the film is done.) The Grandmaster, which took four years to complete, is his sixth collaboration with Tony Leung.

Leung says that in all of his experiences working with Wong, this is the first time that he actually understood his character prior to shooting — only because it was based on a real person.

“I was very confident on the first day on the set, because I know who I am, so I can respond to different situations,” says Leung. “Before [in previous films], I always had [only] little hints about the character… so I would feel very insecure and frustrated. Also, [this time around,] I always felt very positive and optimistic, and I never had this feeling of calm and peace [on a Wong Kar-wai film] before.” He laughs. “Maybe because all the characters [i played] when I worked with him were very dark and suppressed – very different from this one.” Read more here.

Actress Han Ji-hye of MBC drama “I Summon You, Gold!” said that she had brought a photo of actress Song Hye-kyo of SBS drama “That Winter, The Wind Blows” to a hair salon as she wanted to have the same hairstyle.

In “100 Choices” on cable channel StoryOn yesterday, she said that she had gone to a salon in the United States for a haircut because she liked Song’s short hair.

“Because people there don’t know who Song Hye-kyo and Han Ji-hye are, they wouldn’t have any idea Han came to get the same hair as Song,” said Han.

In yesterday’s episode of the weekly show, hair designers who work with local and international celebrities came to the set to share hair-styling tips to make one look more fashionable.

  6. crazy monkey class="articletitle"The Most Beautiful Kdrama Actresses: Part 1

With so many gorgeous kdrama actresses, it's hard to narrow it down.

85601-song-hye-kyo.jpg Song Hye Kyo 85602-yoon-eun-hye.jpg Yoon Eun Hye 85603-han-ga-in.jpg Han Ga In

There are so many beautiful Kdrama actresses that it's hard to narrow it down to just a few, but here are some stars whose looks draw praise:

Song Hye Kyo: The star of "That Winter The Wind Blows, "Full House" and "Worlds Within" was once described by actor Jo In Sung as "so beautiful that any man would want her." Song Seung Hoon described her as his ideal type and she dated stars Hyun Bin and Lee Byung Hun. Her fine features and tiny frame make her appear delicate next to her male co-stars.

    Like Us on Facebook :

Yoon Eun Hye manages to look stunning whether she is pretending to be a boy as she did in "Coffee Prince" or a sophisticated designer as she did in "Missing You." Her full lips and expressive eyes make her a sought after cosmetics model. Her lips ranked first in a poll called "Whose Lips Do You Want To Steal?" When women visit plastic surgery clinics, they often ask for her nose. Han Ga In's nose is second.

Han Ga In's features are so fine that she is often accused of having had plastic surgery when her childhood pictures show she was lovely even as a child. An MNET poll listed her as one of the nation's most beautiful women. The star of "The Moon Embracing The Sun" and "Architecture 101" has perfect skin even without makeup.

Kim Tae Hee: When actor Yoo Ah In first began working on "Jang Ok Jung," he confessed to being flustered by Kim Tae Hee's good looks. Her doll-like features earned her the title of "Korea's Most Beautiful Woman" in a KBS TV survey.

"At first I was surprised and made uncomfortable by that," said Kim Tae Hee. "But then I decided I wanted to keep the title for as long as possible."

Lee Bo Young, who currently stars in "I Hear Your Voice," demonstrated that she was one of Korea's loveliest women by winning the "Miss Korea" pageant. She originally dreamed of being a television presenter but her good looks led to modeling work and then acting jobs. CNBlue's Lee Jung Shin named her as his ideal type but she dates actor Ji Sung. At 34, she looks 24.

Park Shin Hye says people only think she is pretty now because she lost her baby fat and works out at the gym. Her long-lashed eyes and flawless skin have earned her many modeling jobs but she hasn't always been happy with her nose and once considered plastic surgery. Don't do it, said netizens. You are so pretty the way you are and you just keep getting prettier.
Who do you think should be on the next list of most beautiful kdrama actresses? Who would you like to look like? Let us know.

  7. class="title"John Woo’s ‘Chinese Titanic’ Begins Shooting in Beijing 1:49 AM PDT 7/9/2013 by Patrick Brzeski John Woo 2013 PBeijing Galloping Horse Director John Woo. class="main_article_deck"“The Crossing,” the director’s first project in four years, tells the story of a momentous voyage in the South China Sea and is being likened to the James Cameron global hit.

John Woo’s return to directing after a four-year hiatus with The Crossing is now underway in Beijing, the production companies behind the project announced in a statement.

    our editor recommends

The big-budget project is being dubbed the “Chinese Titanic” by local Chinese media and stars a bevy of local A-listers, including Zhang Ziyi, Huang Xiaoming and Tong Dawei, along with South Korea’s Song Hye-kyo, Japan’s Masami Nagasawa and Taiwan’s Takeshi Kaneshiro.

The film will be released in two parts -- much like Woo’s last project, historical epic Red Cliff (2008) and Red Cliff II (2009) -- and tells the story of three couples aboard a ship in the South China Sea fleeing China for Taiwan during the 1949 revolution. The screenplay is written by Wang Huiling, best known for co-writing Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and adapting Lust Caution.

Originally titled 1949 and planned since 2009, the project was reportedly delayed due to challenges in getting the script approved because of political sensitivities in China surrounding any portrayal of the revolutionary era.

The two-part film is budgeted at $40 million and is jointly backed by Beijing Galloping Horse, China Film Group and Zhejiang Huace Film & TV, with Woo and Terence Chang’s Lion Rock Productions banner attached.

Woo already has his next film in the works: the long-planned World War II drama Flying Tigers, which is expected to go into production in 2014.

  10. class="cb b15"Jo In Sung Can't Stop Talking About Song Hye Kyo

    Jo In Sung

Jo In Sung may be gearing up for his new movie, "Kwon Bob," but every time he does an interview, he gets asked at least one question about his "That Winter The Wind Blows" co-star Song Hye Kyo.

The co-stars are obviously fond of each other as Song Hye Kyo once said that Jo In Sung was responsible for the show's success and he said the same thing about her.

"The mood on set was fantastic," he said. "I was able to play the part so well thanks to Hye Kyo. There are times when you hate your co-star or feel like she could have done better, but since we both knew how to make things work, neither of us felt that way. I don't think I'll ever be in a piece that makes me feel like this again."

As the drama is now a hit in China and won an award at the Shanghai TV Festival, he was asked once more what he thought about the actress.

"She has it all: beauty, concentration, generosity and professionalism," said Jo In Sung. "She can be called the flower of the drama. And she has a dramatic face that easily conveys emotion."

He has praised her generosity in the past, saying that some co-stars will try to grab all the attention for themselves, while Song Hye Kyo was always able to step back and let him be the focus of a scene.

"My chemistry with her was easy to see and I'm grateful for that," said Jo In Sung. I was able to shine because of her."

He has known the actress for 10 years and does find her attractive but he never considered dating her.

"Work should stay work," he said. "Once I become interested in someone it becomes a little weird. Since I don't see her that way it was easier to be comfortable with her."

In his new film "Kwon Bob," his co-star and romantic interest will be Lee Yeon Hee who appeared as Yun Seo Hwa in "Gu Family Book" and Yoo Kang Mi in "Phantom." The futuristic science fiction thriller is about a man whose hatred of injustice prompts him to develop super powers. He falls in love Lee Yeon Hee's character and has to save the village she lives in.

Filmgoers will not be able to avoid comparing their onscreen chemistry to the romantic scenes he shared with Song Hye Kyo.

South Korean actress Song Hye Kyo won a lawsuit in Seoul Central District Court on Friday, charging over 40 people with deliberately spreading lies against her and an unnamed politician through online comments.

Of the 41 people named in the lawsuit, the court has charged 24 of them with slandering Song, according to the publication CJ E&M enewsWorld.

21 of the accused online marauders of will be forced to pay a fine equivalent to roughly $450 to $850.

"[The judge has] summarily indicted 21 [people], who will now have to pay a fine of 500,000-1,000,000 won for spreading false rumors that Song Hye Kyo has a politician as her sponsor and defaming her," said a representative from the Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office.

A representative from Song Hye Kyo's management company United Artist Agency said the verdict comes as no surprise to them.

"We learned we had won the case after reading the news," the rep said.

"We find it natural that we won, since it was a case that brings a warning to those who leave malicious comments and aimed to punish those who leave such comments."

The lawsuit charged that between September of 2008 and December of 2011 the online lawbreakers, posted rumors like "Song Hye Kyo and [the unnamed politician] were in a sponsor relationship, and she gained financial support from the relationship," according to Yahoo News.

In October of 2012, Song told the publication Kpopfever that she was particularly hurt by a comment that read: "she already has a lot of money even without the sponsor," as if her alleged involvement with the clandestine political figure was a confirmed fact.

According to Song she mainly felt guilty that her fame had potentially hurt someone else's professional career of public service.

"I felt bad for the other person, for being swept up in the issue, especially because I've never even met him before," she said.

Chinese director Wong Kar Wai, who recently cast Song in his film 'The Grandmaster," recently called her the most beautiful actress in all of Asia.

Last month, the Hong Kong director told the Korea Star Daily that Song's beauty is so ideal, his only regret is not putting her in more of the movie.

"Song Hye Kyo has perfect facial features, and has the most beautiful [look] among all Asian actresses," Wong said.

At the theme park, Emma thought of Zo In Sung and Song Hye Kyo in SBS TV drama ‘That Winter, The Winter Blows’. She then asked Taecyeon, “Let’s do it like in the drama, and have a cotton candy kiss photo.” But Taecyeon was clueless about it since he hasn’t watch the drama yet.

class="articletitle"I Want to Look Like You: 3 Korean Female Celebrities Who I Want To Resemble

Girl crush? Girl idol? Girl, I just want to look like you.

    June 23, 2013 12:34 PM EDT |

lee honey, song hye kyo, lee hyori

I'm happy with the way I look. Yes, sometimes I do wish my skin was better but other than that I look like my parents and there's nothing more I want than to look at myself in the mirror and think about my mother and father. But that doesn't mean that I don't look at other Korean women and aren't envious of their flawless ways, stunning eyes, million dollar smiles, and to-die-for bodies. While most to all women in the Korean industry are borderline beautiful, there are only three woman that really catch my eye and that I wouldn't mind looking like in another life. Here's my list!

Song Hye Kyo is gorgeous. I've been fan of hers since her "Full House" days and she is hands down the most beautiful actress in Korea. First off, her skin is like fresh milk and her perfect pink lips add onto the Snow-White like beauty she possess. She's a stunning kind of beauty that always stops me in my tracks. Whether she's playing a loveable, dorky love interest or she's reincarnating a famous Queen in Korean history, she never fails to bring an effortless kind of elegance that only a few women are born with. Along with her perfectly light olive skin, perfect lips, rosy cheeks, silky hair, and beautiful eyes, Song Hye Kyo is also a curvalicious brunette bombshell. Here are some of her best photos of all time:

  17. Song Hye Kyo, Overwhelms at Chanel Photo Exhibition in Shanghai Jun 22, 2013 • Category: Dispatch, News and updates

    201362111842p66fhks_T5_45117

[Dispatch=Reporter Kim Soo Ji] ‘Hallyu-star’ Song Hye Kyo showed off her indisputable beauty in Shanghai as well. Even compared to Hollywood actresses, her visual dominates.

On the afternoon of June 19th in Shanghai, Song Hye Kyo attended the opening of Chanel ‘The Little Black Jacket.’ About 3,000 or more fashion officials and fans came to the day’s event. Song Hye Kyo shined as the only Korean model at ‘The Little Black Jacket.’

Song Hye Kyo showed off a bold appearance alone. Fashion director, Shim Woo Chan, who accompanied her, described what was happening at the location on his Twitter account (@divashim): “When Song Hye Kyo appeared, people went wild as they snapped pictures with their cell phone.”

    20136218317t56xhks_T5_45086

Response coming from the local media has exploded. Shim Woo Chan-sshi spoke with Dispatch via telephone on June 20th stating, “When Song Hye Kyo stood at the photo wall, Chinese reporters rushed at the same time. Only after Chanel officials controlled the crowd again, she was able to proceed with interviews.”

Song Hye Kyo showcased sensual fashion at the photo wall. She wore a black mini dress decorated with beads that exposed her slender legs. She did not wear additional accessories. However, thanks to the detailing of the beads, it was gorgeous enough.

    201362183178gamhks_T5_45085

On this day, she was even able to meet with Hollywood actors. Song Hye Kyo exchanged friendly greetings with top Hollywood actress, Tilda Swinton, and the representative of French actresses, Élodie Bouchez. The representative actresses for Korea, America, and France all gathered in one place.

She spent special time with Swinton. Song Hye Kyo sat with Swinton and her partner in the VIP area, while also drinking champaign. They exchanged stories about the Busan Film Festival. Song Hye Kyo attended the festival in 2011 and Swinton, in 2009.

    2012112923138b5gjnae_T5_36842

Song Hye Kyo and Chanel’s connection dates back to October 2011. By the invitation of Karl Lagerfeld during that time, Song Hye Kyo went to Paris. While there, Lagerfeld asked Song Hye Kyo to be the representative of Korea as part of the 113 world celebrities for ‘The Little Black Jacket.’

Last year on November 28th, Chanel ‘The Little Black Jacket’ exhibition opened in Korea. Song Hye Kyo was invited to attend as the main guest and had the spotlight. Her photograph attracted attention as it was displayed side-by-side, such stars as Sarah Jessica Parker and Kirsten Dunst.

Shim Woo Chan-sshi said, “Prior to Shanghai, Zhang Ziyi attended the opening of the Chanel exhibition in Beijing. For this this one in Shanghai, Song Hye Kyo was the main model. Despite her right schedule, she readily accepted Chanel’s special request.”

    429px-Takeshi_Kaneshiro2

John Woo, Hong Kong film director and producer, has tapped heartthrob Takeshi Kaneshiro (Chinese name: Gum Sing Mo) to star in his next film, The Crossing, slated to begin production in July.

Starring alongside Kaneshiro will be lead actor Huang Xiaoming, opposite lead actresses Zhang Ziyi and Korean starlet Song Hye-Kyo. Initially, Woo (aka Ng Yu Sum) hoped to cast Taiwanese actor Chang Chen opposite Song Hye-Kyo – but Chen was unable to accept due to scheduling.

When Woo came to Huang with the offer of the role, despite being “second choice”, Huang didn’t hesitate. Though Huang’s manager declined to comment, the Chinese actor, singer and model said that working with Woo would likely boost his skills as a performer.

The Crossing, to be set in the 1940s, is Woo’s first project since Red Cliff 2, which he completed in 2009, and will explore the interlocking stories of six main characters whose lives and romances intersect. The film will allegedly be based on the Taiping ferry that capsized on January 27, 1949 in the Baijie Strait southeast of Shanghai.

The prospect of a love story by Woo is an intriguing one, as the director is traditionally associated with high octane

films like The Killer, a 1989 Hong Kong flick starring a young Chow Yun-Fat as an assassin; Hard Boiled, a classic 1992 Hong Kong police/triads film again starring Chow; Broken Arrow, a 1996 Hollywood film starring John Travolta and Christian Slater involving the theft of an American nuclear weapon; and Face/Off, a 1997 movie in which John Travolta (again) and Nicolas Cage play a game of cat and mouse as FBI agent and terrorist who swap faces.

Woo, who is highly influential as a director in the action genre, is known for his trademark chaotic action sequences laden with slow motion shots of bullets gently floating by and people spinning through the air. Most recently this style of direction came through in his films Red Cliff and Red Cliff 2, a Chinese war epic about the Battle of Red Cliffs (208-209 AD), the ending of the Han Dynasty and the early beginnings of the Three Kingdoms period.

Kaneshiro also worked with Woo in the Red Cliffs series. Zhang, who has starred in similar wuxia martial arts epics like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero, has recently announced her retirement from martial arts films.

The Crossing should offer a very different end result from what audiences have come to expect from the project’s diverse match-up.
