Yup, Cheoljong is a direct descendant of Bang Won aka King Taejong. I love how Kim Jung Hyun portrays him here, his range is marvelous! From being pouty every time his queen turns him down to the strong and charismatic king in front of the court, he has it all!

Whew what a ride! I usually like political and more serious sageuks but I don't know why in this ep I'm kinda disappointed..
Spoilermaybe because I'm so used to the light-hearted tone in Mr Queen early eps and we don't see a lot of our Royal Couple (though I love that exchanging letter scene, they're so cute hehe). Ep 12 preview makes me worried. At this point I want the production team to just follow history, means no coup, no revolt, no dethroning our King and Queen!! Please drama gods let our Royal Couple be happy!

Greetings, Mr. Queen nation! It's been awhile since I logged in to Soompi and discuss ongoing dramas. The last time was My Mister and even then I didn't livestream it like I do now with Mr. Queen. That's how good it this drama is!
After watching Ep8 again, I've had some thought
SpoilerWe haven't really got a full sequence of what actually happened between little Cheoljong, Soyong and Hwajin. But based on some snippets we got, we can say that the one who saved little Cheoljong was actually Soyong, not Hwajin. That's how he first fell for Soyong, right? Because she saved him.. Now, the King is falling for Sobong again, he's wavered and he really wants to understand her (him) more. Do you think he will fall in love again after the secret is revealed and he find out that the one who saved him is not Hwajin, but Soyong? lolll that means Cheoljong is gonna fall in love 3 times for the same person! I just thought it's funny and I really look forward to see him acknowledging his feelings!
Has anyone listened to the OSTs? It's beautiful and really sets the mood for the drama especially our Royal Couple!

Didn't really catch what Donghoon shouted to Jian at the end of ep 10 preview. I think it's about pretending to know (or not knowing) something. I only understand what he said after that: "What happened in the past.. doesn't matter."
Will post more after I watch ep 9 with subs! For now I gotta sleep. Thanks a lot for sharing guys!

YES! I relate so much to Gwangil at that time, he couldn't really explain what's going on between Jian and Donghoon, but there is something between them. Jian already said she likes Donghoon, and even DJY stated that Donghoon only eats and have drinks with someone he likes. What DJY said actually reminds me of something my cousin said about guys. He said guys wouldn't bother doing things like buying food for girls they don't like.
This is of course not meant as a generalization for all guys out there, each person has different perspective on how to show their feelings, but it's just funny to think of it.

We can finally see Jian and Donghoon smile! I feel so happy for them, and I keep replaying that scene!
Anyways, can someone confirm whether Donghoon really describes Jian as pretty to the bartender? Or am I just hearing things??

On that happy note, I've been thinking about how the PD has been portraying the relationship between DH and JA so far. This is only based on my perception of the show though, if you guys have different opinions, it's also fine~ After all we're all different people with unique point of views, and that's the beauty of it.
Anyways, for me, I always see some sensuality in the way DH and JA are portrayed when they're together. DH and JA don't talk much, but when they're in a scene together, they use human senses to show their deep connection, like sharing deep looks and the sound of their breaths mingling together. It's all very sensual and it managed to convey the ambiguity, the awkward tension between them that makes me, as a viewer, wondering about the true nature of their relationship. 'What are they exactly? What is this awkward but delicious tension? There's gotta be something right?'
Even from the beginning, DH and JA have shared some long, curious looks. Then we have their train rides, where they mostly don't talk but there's always something there between them, something unsaid. One of the most telling is of course when DH tried to shield JA from the other passengers. See how DH braced himself on the pole for stopping people AND also himself from bumping into her? Then the camera panned to a close up shot of DH's hand clutching the pole tightly. This shot gotta be deliberately made by the director, to show us DH's uneasiness being in that situation. There's also the forced kiss scene. We saw close up shots of both JA and DH, and they looked so affected by it. Well, JA less so, probably because I can't really read her expression well. But DH was clearly affected. When you see each frame of that scene, you can tell all these different emotions warring inside DH (awesome performance by Lee Sun Kyun, btw). He's shocked, confused, and seriously tempted, but he's such a decent guy so he stopped JA. The game changer from JA's side is definitely when she ran to him. The falling snow, the sound of DH's breath, the melancholy tune slowed, and then JA broke into a run with this beautiful piano tune as a background. This whole scene is such a feast for my eyes and ears!
I'm so looking forward to tonight's episode and see more awkward dinner dates of them!

It's upsetting to see this beautiful show gets a lot of backlash from some insensitive people who only think about what they want or not want to see in a show. I know we can't please everyone, and there's bound to be a group of people who doesn't like a particular trope, in this drama's case, huge age gap between the main characters. Some people find it disturbing, and it's within their rights to convey their thoughts, but I really can't stand people who attack the actors and/or the production team just for doing their jobs. I really hope the whole My Mister team can still go ahead with their planned story, and just focus on the positive feedback from fans who really enjoy the show.
Now, I do admit that I actually want Donghoon and Jian to be together in the end, because that's the impression I get from watching it since ep 1. They are portrayed as two lonely souls whose worlds are so bleak and gloomy and they can't help but be drawn to each other. It's like they recognize their counterpart, their kindred in each other. Both Donghoon and Jian may find each other's presence crippling at first as each found out the other's weaknesses and saw them in their most vulnerable state, but I think they're starting to trust each other. They both seem more emotive in regards to each other, like Jian who slapped that deputy for badmouthing Donghoon, or Donghoon who show his concern because Jian wore short socks during winter. It's like they bring colors back to each other's worlds and it's so beautiful to see. They are becoming, let's say.. a better version of themselves ever since they met. Jian shows more emotion and concern for people (well, only with her ajusshi lol) other than her grandmother, and Donghoon starts to stand up for himself. It would be weird for me to see if they go on separate ways at the end. So far, the PD team managed to portray their relationship in a beautifully nuanced way, the chemistry is so palpable (i mean did you see that train scene?? i could cut the tension like a hot knife through butter lol) it would be a waste if Jian doesn't end up with her ajusshi.

Hello everyone! It's been a long time since I was active on soompi, now I'm back thanks to this very different and intriguing drama. I love IU's portrayal of her character, it's rare to see this kind of heroine (or should I say anti-heroine?) in a kdrama. Lee Sun-kyun too, he shines even though his character is rather gloomy. Definitely one of my favorite kdrama characters! I'm so looking forward to watch this week's episodes.

to derpyeolie there are many subbed videos of exo on youtube. If you want fast sub, boonyi91 and wisheestar are quite fast in subbing. But if you want to watch it in best quality (video and sub likewise), I recommend exoticsubs.

But at last, Hwon and YW got together, and the final scene is sweet. Thank you to all TMTETS casts and crews for this great drama. I really enjoy my Wed-Thur nights watching it.

I do like learning foreign languages, it's so fascinating to me. Thanks btw hehe.. The difference between the speech levels is what the phrases end with. Haerache ends with 'da' or 'neunya?', while haoche ends with 'o'. how about when YW speak to Hwon ... did she change too ?

As for YW, no, she didn't change her speech level, because she's talking to the King. Everyone uses hasoseoche or hapsyoche when speaking to a King or other royals.

The explanation is very understandable to us non-Korean speakers, and there are some example videos from K-dramas as well.

I've been waiting like crazy to watch the ending but I have to wait another week? Oh well, I guess it can't be helped.. On a positive note, I can work on my thesis without any distraction from super sexy Hwon TMTETS I can see that some people still debating about HGI's acting bla bla bla.. Well, why don't we just enjoy this moment until the end? Or maybe, discuss another thing? I don't know if anyone have posted about this, but I realized that Hwon uses a different speech level after his reunion with YW! I don't speak Korean, but from years of listening to K-pop and watching K-drama, and also from blue's explanation about Korean speech level (thanks a lot Blue!), I can tell that Hwon change his speech level with YW. Young Hwon spoke in haerache towards young YW. Adult Hwon also spoke in haerache towards Wol. But after Hwon realized that Wol is YW, he changed it and use haoche to speak with YW. (To be exact, after Hwon and YM's duel, and Hwon went back to his quarter, he asked YW if she's respite, if she's brought here without her consent, in haoche!)
I was confused at first when I realized this. Why did Hwon use haoche? The only time I heard Hwon uses haoche is when he speaks to BK or BK's father. I cross-checked with Dong Yi, and it turns out that King Sukjong also speaks in haoche towards his queens (Queen Inhyeon, Jang Hee-bin when she used to be queen, and the 3rd queen whose name I can't remember
) According to Blue's explanation, haoche is used to address someone in the same rank as yourself or lower, with a moderate degree of respect or politeness. From these observations, I conclude that Joseon's kings used haoche to address the queens. We know that YW is the rightful queen because she was chosen as the crown princess. I think that's why Hwon changed his speech level, because he considers YW as his rightful queen. Maybe someone with better understanding in Korean could explain this? Thanks before!

The end of episode 12 certainly causes an uproar to all viewers. I read with interest to all the comments and plausible suggestions by viewers on how Hwon can escape the consummation. I summarised the the various suggestions from what i read in this forum and METS fb :
1. Hwon faking a heart attack at the last minute
2. conspiracy of Woon/HS barging in to save the king
3. NK to stop the consummation cuz she predicted that the heir will not come from BK
4. Hwon mistakenly taking BK for YW and she freaks out
5. Hwon saying harsh words and make BK rejects him
6. BK discovering Hwon body with chicken pox scar and it repulses her (LOL on this)
7. Hwon admitting he is gay
8. put laxative in BK's drink and make her have diarrhea
I think i may missed out some suggestions. Please add in more if you have other suggestions on how Hwon can escape the consummation.
No. 6-8 DAEBAK! rofl Who suggested those ideas? I don't care what kind of trick Hwon would do, as long as the consummation don't happen.

I finally watched ep 12. Gosh, KSH really did a great job! His cold stare and words towards BK.. It's kinda frightening, but also captivating.
So, while we're waiting for new episodes next week, I decided to make this. Just something to laugh at and ease our anxiety.

Ok, so I've calmed down a bit.. Like everyone says, maybe the consummation won't happen. Believe in His Majesty! On a side note, I love it when Hwon and Wol walked together and talked. I can see that they are now much more comfortable around each other.

Hi everyone! I'm not sure whether there's a reply or post about how the King address the Queen here but I figured I'll just share it since there's been questions about it.
Cheoljong (actually all Joseon kings in sageuk) addresses the Queen as 중전 (jung jeon) which literally means 'Queen', without a possessive pronoun 'my' like in English translation. As a King, he is of higher rank than the Queen, that's why he only uses jung jeon, without the honorific title of 마마 (ma ma) which means 'your highness'. Same goes for the dowager queens, they address sobong as jung jeon since they're of higher rank as seniors/elders in the inner court. Aside from those three, every one else are the Queen's subordinates (palace maids, eunuchs, etc) so they must address her as jung jeon ma ma or just ma ma.
I guess English translators use 'my queen' when a King call his queen for seamless translation and to better relate to the target audience, in this case international fans.
The only time Cheoljong called sobong 'my queen' was in sobong's dream when they're in that bath house (?), he said 나의 중전, 나의 (na ye) literally means 'my'.
