Does YS care for his wife or is it his property? Why he never said he loved the mistress out loud ??? For me keeping quiet makes me wonder does he love her or he doesn’t love her?? I prefer hearing the words so I .  When his wife was in pain, he really felt for her ? I loved the way she ( PY) treated him. She made sure to get everything done right so that he can’t fool her at all.

Actually this writer is kinda all over the place. The fact that they made out Dr.Shin to be such an 'azz-hole' to Ami doesn't help his case with Sa Pi Young ("SPY"), no matter what are his motives (i.e. fear of losing her, or his daughter or his property). This storyline for 40s wife is starting to give me a 'The World of the Married' vibe. I must applaud Park Joo-Mi for an outstanding performance. It is true that all the other plots in the drama are really boring in comparison to Dr.Shin-SPY story.

Whatever the outcome, I hope SPY gets a happy ending. She was so blissful for 1.5 seasons.... but if you guys recall, she had an erotic dream about Seo Ban (her colleague), what plotline is the writer-nim brewing there?

So far, the writing has been incongruent and inconsistent. Not for stellar acting by the casts, this drama would have been down the drain. Now I am just watching on for SPY... My heart definitely ached with her this episode.

  2. hello everybody. I'm back after finally re-watching all 50 episodes without 'fast-forwarding'. It's been an emotional and physically exhausting week.every day for 4-5 hours at night and weekends. It's serious madness.

IHAL is a special drama when it comes to timelines because it never shows you an intro timeline screen after a time jump but instead it really did a wonderful job of slotting it tons of hints in btwn conversations to tell us 'smart' viewers when exactly an event or incident occured. Even with that, you gotta have a memory of an Elephant to recall or catch the hint. Here is my compilation of IHAL's timebar and screenshots from various episodes to help you guys recall:

    1) DHK & DGYG's birthdays - 24 May 1977

Episode 1 - DGYG's resident card examined by DHG, you can see the resident number is 770524-2060625

    Ep1-DGYGampDHG%20Birthday%2024%20May%201

Episode 24 - DHK tried to renew DGYG's resident card, again the resident number comes on screen

    Ep24-DGYH%20bday.png

    2) CJE's Birthday - 13 Dec 1977 (we know they are the same age from various dialogues)

Episode 27 - CJE sent her a message to ask her to say Happy Birthday to him. Since she's still amnesiac, he reckons she would come to him just cos' she thinks it's his birthday although it wasn't, and she did, later, he admitted when his real birthday is.

    Ep27-CJE%20bday%2013%20Dec%201977_1.png

    3) They started dating at age 20, year 1997

Episode 46 - DHK told CJE that when she was 20, she first loved him cos of his love for her, but at 40, she loves all of him not just cos of his love for her.

    Ep46-Started%20dating%20at%2020.png

    4) CJE courted her for 1 year 7 months before they started dating in 1997 means they probably met in 1996

Episode 38 - DHK made dinner for CJE, he thanked her for dating him after chasing her for 1 year 7 months!

    Ep38-chase%201yr%207mths.png

    5) They got married after 9 years of dating, meaning they got married in year 2006

Episode 49 - CJE asked his bestie, Hyun Woo to sign his marriage registration form as a witness. Hyun Woo teased him if he was going to cry again this time. CJE defended that it took him 9 years to get her to say yes to marrying him.

    Ep49-9%20years%20dating%20to%20marriage_

    6) Eun Sol was almost immediately conceived, she was born on 8 August 2007 and passed away on 15 June 2010

Episode 1 - CJE was crying by Eun Sol's grave

    Ep1-Eunsols%20death_1.png

    7) DHK amnesiac inducing car accident happened on 26 September 2011

Episode 29 - DHK regained her memory and came home to Buamdong, to her mum. She told her mum it is 25 September 2011. Her mum told her 4 years have passed and it's now 2015 and that her memory ceased the day before her accident.

    Ep29-DHK%20accident%20date1.png

Episode 31 - Baek Seok asked DHK why did she choose to stop her memory on 25 Sep 2011, the day before her accident and the day before she met him?

    Ep31-accident%20date%2026%20Sep%202011.p

    8) From knowing when the car accident happened, we can tell that CJE's affair with KSR started 3 months before, around June 2011 (summertime)

Episode 1 - the only purposeful time bar introduction screen in this whole drama, it says 3 months before

    Ep1-DivorceNaccident%20happened%203%20mt

Episode 2 - Buamdong house garden scene, it hasn't been long since EunSol's death says CJE

    Ep2-Affair%20happened%20less%20than%201%

Episode 3 - In Law's house, Choi Jin Ri (CJE's sister) said when was the last time u were here? since Eun Sol's death? hints to viewers that it can't be THAT LONG since Eun Sol's death

    Ep3-Hint%20that%20Eunsol%20died%20not%20

Episode 4 - ice + fan scene in KSR's house tells us that it is the height of summer, cos it's so darn hot.

    Ep4-affair%20happened%20in%20height%20of

    9) DHK and CJE met again after 4 years (still amensiac) - circa September 2015

Episode 10 - Baek Seok hugged a crying amnesiac DHG in her sleep and said hasn't it been 1460 days.

    Ep10-4%20yrs%20met%20again.png

Episode 10 - Amnesiac DHG met CJE for the first time since her accident.

    Ep10first%20meet.png

    10) DHG recovers her memory circa December 2015

Episode 31 - It was CJE's birthday on 13 December 2015, and DHG just recovered her memory and got into old DHG richard simmons mode, it's the same day (CJE's bday) where she admitted for the first time to Baek Seok that she remembers everything (including her DGYG days) - see image above on point 2.

    11) DHG kinda admits to CJE that she has all her memory intact that she still loves him, altho she doesn't say it out loud - it was Christmas 2015

Episode 34 - Christmas kiss scene

    Ep34-regained%20memory%20circa%20christm

    Ep34-christmas.png

    12) DHG heads to jail in Spring 2016, probably 1 March 2016.

Episode 46 - the day before she was sentenced, at their house in Buamdong, she told CJE at the gate that Spring is coming

    Ep46-spring%20is%20coming.png

Episode 46 (painting Buamdong house scene) before DHK found out there was an affidavit to land her in jail, she planned to move in w CJE by Spring (March) 2016

    Ep46-Live%20together%20in%20spring%20201

Episode 46, Baek Seok comforted DHK by saying, if we appeal, instead of 1 year, I can get you out in 2 months, instead of moving into Buamdong in March 2016, it will be May 2016

    Ep46-DHK%20jailed%20in%20March%202016.pn

    13) DHG probably got released from Jail on 1 March 2017.

Episode 47 - CJE received parking fines dated 28 Feb 2017 delivered to his office on the day of DHG's release. I think SK is a pretty first world and efficient country, it shouldn't have been too long since the day he got caught parking illegally in CheongJu to be near DHG's prison.

    Ep47-parking%20ticket%2028%20Feb%202017.

    14) The drama ended at our OTPs being age 40 and they expect to live another 40 years together.

    Ep50%20-%2020%20years.png

    Ep50%20-%2020%20years2.png

It's 3am when this convo happened since he first left the house at 10.30pm for the so called Berlin con call. Go figure..:sweatingbullets:

    Ep50%20-%2020%20years3.png

Hope you guys enjoy this timeline post as much as i enjoyed analysing and researching to compile this! :glasses:

Kim Hyun Joo's passionate acting- Issue makers

    https://www.viki.com/videos/1098365v-kim-hyun-joos-passionate-acting-issue-makers

@LHRCN_ thanks for sharing this link. Really awesome summary of what Kim Hyun-Joo achieved in this drama. I've never watched a more difficult role for a lead actress in a Korean drama. I was chatting w my Korean friend (who's into dramas too) ystd about dramas. Was showing her how international fans camp out at Soompi and how ppl like Drama beans write about dramas. She was amazed and dumbfounded. Dunno if that applies to all local Koreans but she doesn't think local people actually sit down and analyze dramas like that. She said "we just watch and post all the cutesy pictures all over the Internet and that's it" . But in Korea everyone agrees that Kim Hyun-Joo should have won the best actress award this time round.

Today I'm at episode 38 on the rewatch.

@pennyloo Hello and WELCOME! Welcome to the 'addicts' club of IHAL-lovers-who-cant-let-go hehe. I'll say it's better late than never to uncover a gem, don't you think? Please write on as you rewatch the second time around. Many LOVERS are still hanging out here, and like you, are rewatching it :dizzy:  Btw, just curious, which was the drama that kept you mesmerized for over a year?

    @jadecloud

Hahaha to answer your question. the reason why I joined Soompi - Goong in year 2006.

Am currently in episode 32 (re-watch), I have so many questions! But I'll list them down one by one once I'm done.

on papers, KHJ is playing 2 characters. In the drama, she easily acted as 4-5 different characters.

    Let's do a quick count here :

    1) Do Hae Kang
    2) Doku Yong Ki
    3) Doku Yong Ki (the amnesia DHK)
    4) Do Hae Kang (regain her memory)
    5) Do Hae Kang (the lady who has forgiven everyone)

IF we'll to analyse her role in the above characters, she acted them differently both in expression & body language.
Yet again between 1, 3, 4 & 5, can spot some similarities. It's the same character after all.

    :)

TOtally agree @juntan I was thinking that too when i thought back especially when she was Amnesiac Dokgo Yong Gi, she should have the same doed eyed eyes and characteristics of her twin sister, but its like an in btwn, she retains her sad persona which Hae Kang carries internally, the pain of abandonment by her husband and also losing her own child, but she carries this soft, and kind persona that is gentle / elegant, very distinct from her sister the real Dokgo Yong Gi who's persona is abit more comical and funny / lighthearted.

I especially marvelled at her performance when she regained her memory, when she was back to being bitchy and bitter Hae Kang. For the whole episode I was truly convinced she went back to being Hae Kang 4 years back until the part where she pushed her husband away strongly, that she was being 'overboard'. That was the give-away. Meaning, she really got into 'character'.

But I wished the writing would have revealed to us her thought process, from the time she was still amnesiac to becoming the new Hae Kang, how did she reconcile internally with herself, on her husband's betrayal and her past and etc. It was focusing so much on her own faults and terrible past-self, that we didn't get to see much of how she healed from the KSR betrayal (I mean if we remember back episodes 1 to 9, I dunno about u guys, but i truly hated Jin Eon then, as much as I tried to hate Hae Kang for being such a richard simmons in many ways, infidelity is infidelity, its complete betrayal). It only struck me she totally forgave her husband when at the hotel room scene where she pretended to be 'dating' baek sook and Jin Eon was outside knocking his head against the door, where Hae Kang told Baek Sook that she never hated him, not even once, that she's not angry with Jin Eon... I was wondering, where was the process of healing for her on that horrible episode of her past? I mean in episode 9 she cried whilst clenching her heart right, it must have been so painful. wonder if anyone of you observed that, maybe u know where that healing process lies in this drama.

Also, there wasn't really a closure on whether the two want to be parents again, or can be parents again, or have hope or a future to be parents again.. I know its asking too much, but in episode 50, where they were reminiscing and remembering their daughter Eun-Sol in the garden, I was hoping they would touch a bit on what they hope for their future together. Well maybe it is still fresh and painful to talk about that, and insensitive, because unlike Jin Eon, Hae Kang never did talk out loud about Eun Sol to Jin Eon and her remorse and regret over their daughter's death until that last scene in their garden in episode 50.

I got so much to write on and on about this drama. Rewatching till episode 9 now.. way way way alot more to go!!

Yeah, when I first started on this drama and learnt that the 2 characters were acted by the same person, I almost flipped off my chair. Then I came across this photo, downloaded it to "study" the expression. Must confessed, it took me a while to sink in they were both KHJ!

This is the first time I'm back, posting on Soompi after maybe 2 years. I've been on Soompi since Goong days in 2006. Moving on 10 years later being older and being a more mature viewer, I've just finished IHAL last week and can't stop thinking back about the drama especially Kim Hyun-Joo's spectacular performance. I was shocked to know that Yong Gi and Hae Kang are acted by the same actress after I found out in episode maybe like 8 or 9? because I missed the dialogue which revealed for the first time that DHK had a twin in episode 2 where their mum - Kim Gyu Nam told Seol Ri's father about DHK having a twin - Yong Gi. (I'm one of those avid watchers, avid forwarder type of drama watcher). Decided to come back to Soompi thread to see whether many ppl are as mesmerised by this drama as me. Lo and Behold 727 pages today!!.. omg.. this is fanatism, for a lengthy drama, exceptional! LIke all of you. I certainly can't let go of IHAL yet, and my longest drama fever for a sole drama lasted maybe a whole year. Wonder how long I'll be camping here this time. Thank you IHAL soompi campers for camping here too.

I would rate IHAL in my top 3 list of all times now after having watched hundreds of K dramas over the course of 10 years. AMazing plot, script-writing, acting, everything. I'm rewatching the whole thing slowly and am at episode 8. So MUCH details the PDs put into the shooting, u can even notice things like background extras discussions and expressions to match a particular scene. (ie. when CJE came to KSR's workplace at the cafe to pull his mother-in-law out, background casts were literally gossiping and eavesdropping like how u would think it would go in reality).

And the script, the things they say or not say, is amazing. The way things were panned out, the flow of the story, can very believably happen in reality.

It's so hard to find an actress/actor who can portray sadness on their face without even crying. I've been reviewing by rewatching, what issit that makes Yong Gi so different from Hae Kang even though both are Kim Hyun-Joo? it's the depth and truth behind their eyes. When Yong Gi is angry, when she found out her fiance was murdered and etc, she had angry eyes, but there is a sense of insecurity in her pupils and fear in her eyes. Whilst when Hae Kang was pissed at Seol Ri and Jin Eon for their affairs, her anger is this white glaring bitter anger that shows in her eyes, its piercing and cruel and revengeful, and the part right before she fell into the river whilst looking at Jin Eon and KSR near the B&B, her anger in her eyes was mixed with a look of sadness and resignation. Even Yong Gi's walking styles, hand gestures are different from Hae Kang's. Another example is when Yong Gi is smiling, her smile is doe-eyed, lovable, happy go lucky, whilst Hae Kang's (even when she had amnesia) had a certain sadness to it. I can't explain in words properly, but its too amazing for me to pen down in words but I think you viewers get my drift.

  7. I've been watching K-dramas since year 2006, first drama was 'save the last dance for me' and came the fanatical Goong phase where you'll see my footprints of it all over Soompi and then hundreds more K-dramas till today. Never watched any of Kim Hyun-Joo's work in the past maybe cos' she tends to do lengthy dramas but as I grow older and watch more mature and lengthy dramas, I found out about Kim Hyun Joo in 'I Have a Lover'. She's amazingly beyond words, superb as an actress. I too, like everyone else, didn't know she was playing both characters in IHAL until episode 2 or 3 when the mother revealed to Seol Ri's father that Hae Kang has a twin. Afterwhich, I rewatched and rewatched the drama eversince it ended over a week ago... I still can't believe KHJ played both Yong Gi and Hae Kang's character.... their manerism, their gestures, even their crying, their smiling, their anger are all so different! She is really a thoughtful and 100% in execution actress, how she can cry with a kind sort of eyes in Yong Gi's character versus crying with a bitter eye as Hae Kang's character. Or when she's angry as Yong Gi's character, you can sense the fear and insecurity in her eyes, whilst the anger in Hae Kang's character is pure white and bitter and so confident, aloof... the complexity of emotions this beautiful lady portrayed deserves a Standing Ovation and an Oscar (if Kdrma land ever had one). Definitely the best Korean actress out there. Hope to see her work more in the future, looking forward to watching all her past works and future works. AMAZING!!! Beyond words can say.. FIghting Kim Hyun-Joo Unnie!!!

  8. I thought this would be a brainless romantic highschool drama, but omg, this is really good stuff. Kim Tan and Cha Eun Sung are such a lovely pair, so much chemistry. Lee Bo Na is really such an interesting and loveable character and the pairing with Yoon Chan Young although not so convincing at first, but LBN and YCY pair is really sticking on me... and now Chan Young Do, watching you breaks my heart!
This drama is so great cos, every character is nicely built up, that you can feel for their story. Even Kim Won and teacher's side story is compelling enough that I can't wait for Kim Won to lay down his ground and be a man up against his dad for his girl and make a woman out of her. The one sided love Sunbae has for teacher is engaging and you wanna see where his feelings will lead him, and the relationship with his mother, somehow, makes you feel like he might just commit suicide anytime.
And all the other even smaller side stories like Kim Tan and mom relationship. Kim Tan's mother's affection towards her maid (Cha Eun Sung's mum) and her humanistic ways, really thugs at your heartstrings. Just feel the author really expanded all the characters in this drama so so well, not too much overly zealous focus on the main two characters, but giving them enough on screen time to draw us in but still tickle our senses and imagination to immerse and live within the world that is Jeguk High and the ppl surrounding it by building up on the minor plots well and expanding the sub characters well enough for us viewers to take an interest in their lives and outcome of the subplots are enough to make me wanna watch the next episode.
Best drama of 2013.. The Heirs.... Hands down.

  9. Ji Sung had me hooked on his drama from save the last dance for me... Then he went to army and I haven't watched any of his dramas since. Omg he has changed quite a bit in facial features but I'm not going to discuss about his possible surgery but his acting is amazing! I really miss him on the small screen.

I didn't intend to watch this drama and was just trying it out but somehow I got to episode 6 in one day, and I'm stuck in it now.

This YJ is to on impossible. How can somehow suffer so much and live on? It's a twisted love developing btwn MH and YJ that I think can only result in more tragic love stories.

But what is crazy and what I anticipate is MH revenge turning from avenging his gf to revenging YJ against DH. How MH will stand up for YJ and uncover the truth and make her worthy again. I felt that DH made YJ feel worthless and unfit for him all the time. That's disgusting and the kid being his son, DH can be so cruel. It's inhumane.

This drama has a kind of April snow feeling...

  10. Just looking at all the photos and posts here. I can't wait to see LMH and PSH in action! He's 26, she's 23, perfect!
From Stairway to Heaven, to Tree of Heaven to You're Beautiful and Flower Boy next Door.LMH blowing our minds in Boys Before Flowers, Personal Taste, City Hunter
Finally I get to see this two very beautiful people together! What a dream come true...

  11.

I always watch one drama overnight at the start of study leave. This round of chose dear you /beloved. Last round it was "I miss you" . I had no expectation of 'dear you' as it didn't sound so famous as there wasn't much hype about it and JTBC hasn't built a strong reputation yet. But I was pleasantly surprised by this drama. I think most Korean dramas are those fantasy feel good dramas which always portrays love as being so pure and innocent. But in reality is usually isn't. This drama portrayed a realistic view of what could happen to just anybody but I think it did well to make sure it stood by promoting a couple to work on their marriage and to be above self. JTBC is not a corrupt TV station, it is brutally honest but stays true to mainstream morality.

Although there wasn't much of the usual fanfare of k dramas where viewers look out for the next skinship moments or etc. But the chemistry between the leads were believable despite the age gap. I think the leads did very well here. As opposed to I Miss You which was a really highly rated show with superstars like Micky and Yeh, the leads here were surprisingly veryvery good. Maybe the lead actress needs a little bit of work on her expressions. Sometimes I can't tell what she feels or when her dad died. I would think her distraught face looks a bit over pushed. It was obvious on all angles whom the lead guy was in love with. Maybe it was part of the story line to keep us guessing.

Recommended drama for 2013. Enjoyed it much and will watch it again!

  12. It's been such a long time since I've been active on this Forum... Once I heard about what happened to Ji Hoon from my mother, I was like what? It's amazing all you Ji Hoon fans who stuck by him through thick and thin since the Goong days... Omg I can't believe Cheli you're still here fighting so strong!

What can I say, many years has passed since my Goong crazy days, and now being in a very rational mood, I think some of you are probably right about using JJH's scandal to take heat away from Jang Ja Yeon's sudden suicide...

I still love Ji Hoon regardless as an artiste... wish we could see more of him on TV though... it's been a while...

  13. Hi BOF fanatics...

I just noticed something interesting about the lunchbox business.

In episode 25 he remembers the 'taste' of the eggroll, but I can't recall from which

episode he ate the eggroll from a lunchbox that is made my Jan Di?

I'm scrolling through the drama, where? where?

He left to Macau before he ate the lunchbox she made for him...

Btw, BOF reminds me of Goong 1 alot...

One artsy type guy in the background (Ji Hoo , Lee Yul)

3 annoying highschool girls (powerpuff girls in uniforms)

    4 guys in a rich-kids group

    Bodyguards, limousines...

    One prince-like megarich obnoxious dude

One Big eyed, out of style, cutish girl...

  14.

I watched all 23 episodes in 2 days! i feel like fainting now from the lack of sleep, moreover i have to work...

OMG, every taiwan drama i've watched so far has qiao en playing the lead! K-dramas are my primary food but,

I just love Qiao En so much, especially with Ming Dao!

Ethan, when i first say FTLY, looks so much like Ming Dao, in fact i had to read the cast list twice to make sure i wasn't mistaken. Actually i wished Ming Dao played Cun Xi...This drama is way more steamy than Qiao En's two previous dramas with Ming Dao...damn....imagine Ming Dao as Cun XI in episode 17....

Cant wait for the finale....baby is the only way to go...but please, no corny stupid scenes...make it touching!

  15. OMG I wanna watch CP again too... im debating if i should watch Goong all over again or Cp again... hmmmm a tough choice!

Haha, i watched CP and then it made me miss GOONG so so much!

CP was good but then GOONG is definitely the best!

CP is good b'cos of YEH, she was so good at being a guy that i felt the series was so darn gay at some point, i was having goosebumps when goong yoo and YEH were 'on it'!!! so homo, seriously, she is a darn good actress, YEH rocks!

Gong Yoo is a bit old for her...but ok ler, he's still quite hot!

So, yea after CP i rewatched 'GOONG' and cried again at episode 23...lol... i miss JJH & YEH and it sucks cos YEH is never ever gonna do Goong 2 after how eight peaks treated her...sighs... Aja aja fighting YEH!

  16.

GOONG definitely for best kiss (episode 23), i thought that was almost hollywood stds....HOT! PASSIONATE![/

    Bad ones, plenty, like plenty!!!

You know, i don't know whether i'm accurate but Wedding has the most kissing scenes...13 all together!! and they are not that bad...sweet...not passionate

  17. Oh how i miss you so....

Last Dance (first K-drama for me)...Ji Sung will always have a special place for me...Got any new pics of him??

Imagine Ji Sung out of military with all his packs!! Oohh sexy...It's unlikely that he'll do another drama with eugene?? its quite rare that ppl pair up for the second time in K-drama...why is that so??

hm....you know...i'm in love with this song...definitely...when i first heard it...when the first time i watched goong episode 1...this song became the closing theme...and when i heard it...i'm in love...though i didn't understand the meaning of the song...but i knew that it was about the relationship between SHIN & CG...and this song just match with it....and that was in MARCH 2006 when i first heard it...and until now...i'm still in love with this song...i never bored to hear it...always hear it....oh.....what a great song....maybe the best Korean drama OST i've ever heard.....:wub::wub:

Heys i get what u mean....i'm not korean and dunno korean either...but it caught me...three favourite songs from the OST.....baboimnida and perhaps love and parrot....

Perhaps Love (Sarang Een Gah Yo/사랑인가요) :: Howl & J (from Goong/궁 OST) [tran]

I don't know when it all started

When my head became dizzy with thoughts of you

These thoughts would often pop up in my mind

I feel anxious as my heart expands towards you

    It's nothing.. it's just a little thing

Your words are awkward to me

Is it love? If you feel the same way, is it a beginning?

My heart keeps saying it loves you

It screams out for the whole world to hear

Why has it taken so long for me to hear it~?

We've finally met.. finally found love

If I wanted to show you how I feel

The only way would be for you to become me

    I'm already inside of you

Just like you're inside of me

To each other [to each other]

We may already be too accustomed

Is it love? If you feel the same way, is it a beginning?

My heart keeps saying it loves you

It screams out for the whole world to hear

Why has it taken so long for me to hear it~?

We've finally met.. finally found love

When I think about it [when I think about it]

I realize how many moments there were when my heart trembled

I'll try as harder as I was late in realizing my feelings

I'll be with you, I'll only give you fond memories

Please don't ever leave me again

Even the shortest moments without you make me uneasy

    Please stay by me~

I already love you so much (you're the only one)

Oh my when will goong 2 be confirmed....still waiting....
