Crazy how it was her Sony Alpha Nex campaign that reintroduced me to Son Ye Jin a few years back. I was looking for some reviews on Alpha Nex cameras on Youtube and one of her CFs was among the videos that came up. A bit more googling made me realize that she was the actress in The Classic and Spellbound which I watched in grade school. She really hasn't changed after all these years and she's even more glowing now that she's found the love of her life. She's always looked happy but the happiness simply radiates from both her and Hyun Bin these days.

Agreed. She took a HUGE a step with that confirmation and for her to even personally post a letter to fans on her IG means it must be super serious. SYJ doesn’t seem to be the type who would put her scandal free 20-year career on the line for anything less than a serious relationship. I’m still on a high from all the confirmation news but really Hyun Bin and SYJ deserve all the love and happiness in the world. From TN days, HB hasn’t wavered in his feelings for her. Our boy really put his heart out there for everyone to see in every interview and bts clip with her. SYJ didn’t let the hate and nastiness she got from other shippers after the grocery photos came out affect her. She did CLOY with him knowing that her personal life will be under the kind of scrutiny in a way that it hasn’t been since her debut. I’m just so happy for the kind of love they found in each other.

That's exactly how it is with both Hyun Bin and SYJ. They both were already winning popularity awards very early on in their careers - HB with Kim Sam Soon and SYJ with The Classic. That they are still winning popularity awards almost 20 years later speaks so much about just how successful they have become since then and of how much love they still receive from fans. SYJ has won acting and even popularity awards from most award giving bodies in SK by now but one can never deny the joy and appreciation in her and HB's speeches at Baeksang last June. Sure it was another addition to their awards collection but it was also about the fans, the same fans who made CLOY one of the most beloved k-dramas in recent years. It boggles the mind that these antis call themselves die-hard Hyun Bin fans but are so ungrateful for the love and support that HB receives from his other fans. The antis insinuate that HB should be embarrassed with winning popularity awards because, at 39, they think he is too old for it. Unlike these antis though, K-actors are not an ungrateful lot. They mentioned Jo In-sung as someone whom HB should be competing with but Jo In-sung also won a most popular award at the Blue Dragon as recently as 2017 when he was in his late 30's. K-actors/actresses, regardless of age, appreciate popularity awards because at the end of the day, the success of their dramas and films depends largely on the fans who happen to be the ones who vote for these awards. It looks like a different bag just because Yejin's bag in Incheon only had the logo in the middle, not in the lower part like Hyun Bin's. The bag in the shopping cart is definitely same as the one Yejin used at the airport though. But the backpacks are definitely Gregory and had brown leather zipper tags too. Yejin's been pictured using Gregory multiple times. Guess we know why HB uses one now too.

I’ve been thinking about this after seeing some comments on SNS doubting if Binjin was even real to begin with. All I can say to those in doubt about Binjin (including the antis who lurk here) is to watch two BTS clips of HB and SYJ where she placed her hands on his belt/waist while they were filming the dock scene and where he leaned into her while laughing when she scolded him during the hospital scene from episode 14. Think about the level of intimacy that two people need to have to be so comfortable with such kinds of gestures. 

 

Or you can just watch their Couch Talk interview again and think of the look in Hyun Bin’s eyes when he turned to Son Ye-jin and her reaction after he talked about his idea of a happy life because that pretty much gave them away. Or that part in Baeksang where Yejin glanced back at HB and then he smiled at her when they got on stage. (P.S. All these moments are pretty recent too.)

Even those who commented in the original DC Inside post were surprised at how or why HB and the actress are linked. Apparently she was supposedly in talks for The Swindlers. Contrary to what the article on LoveKPoop said, which one anti on Twitter takes as gospel truth, the actress and HB had never worked together in a movie or drama before. [I seriously expected that even an internet click-bait tabloid could afford to at least google whoever is involved in the gossips they post as it's the bare minimum these days but they couldn't even do that.]

The info from October (if you are referring to the one in the screenshot that was posted on twitter) was about SYJ and her alleged golf dates. The rumor about HB was posted in DC Inside on 11/07. Part of that is also in the screenshot. Someone started a thread in DC Inside about HB and the actress allegedly getting married (or being together). If you search for their names in Hangul, the thread title and part of some comments will still appear though the thread have since been deleted. The site will just redirect you back to the main page if you click on the links. It's basically the same pattern as the one about SYJ back in late-September. Start a thread with a controversial title, commenters won't bite, delete. I guess someone then took a screenshot of part of the thread, added a couple of articles in Korean about the actress when she was in talks to join The Swindlers for, I assume, the role that NaNa eventually played, added a bit about SYJ playing golf from October, and then posted it on Weibo.

Weibo posters should really need to put their heads together and decide which actress Hyun Bin is dating because it's getting tiresome. Based on Weibo rumors alone, Hyun Bin seems to be headed towards dating every available actress in SK except Son Yejin. I suppose that's the most important thing to whoever is behind all these Weibo rumors - that HB's name shouldn't ever be linked to SYJ and vice-versa. While they're at it, they should also try to keep their story straight about SYJ's golfing schedule. At least now it's every weekend and not everyday like the DC forum post which got taken down so fast after posters replied that they were sending it to Msteam for legal action.

ETA: I looked the APAN awards 2018 on Wikipedia and it seems that list of 25 will ben broken into 5 categories of 5 nominees each: Top Excellence Actor in mini series, Top Excellence Actress in mini series, TEActor in serial drama, TEActress in series drama, and Daesang

The Daesang or grand prize is the most prestigious award given at some of the awards ceremonies in K-ent. In most award ceremonies with a Daesang including the Baeksang, the winner is chosen from all the nominees in all prize categories. That was how the APAN Daesang worked in the past. The winners were actors/actress who were also (losing) nominees the Top Excellence in Acting prizes. In 2018, to shake things up, APAN released a list of Daesang nominees none of whom were nominated in any of the acting awards (Top Excellence and Excellence). Son Ye-jin was nominated for a Daesang for Pretty Noona that year but lost out to Lee Byung-hun for Mr. Sunshine. I guess this year they decided to again have nominations for the grand prize but with more nominees than in 2018.

I have my own personal reservation against a popularity award that requires fans to spend money so they can vote but I have to agree with this. If there is anything we learned in the past months about Binjin it's that they are aware of what their fans are up to and are genuinely appreciative of their fans' efforts. APAN may not be as prestigious as Baeksang but it's still a recognition of their work and its impact on fans. Son Ye Jin has received best actress awards from most of the award-giving bodies in SK (other than APAN coincidentally) and Hyun Bin has a Baeksang Daesang but the heartfelt sincerity in their speeches last June was particularly striking. Many people wrote off CLOY as a flop even before it premiered because of what they thought was a silly premise and then got shut out of most domestic awards that it seems like a fitting recognition of Binjin's and the cast and crew's efforts for them to win a most popular award from the fans themselves.

Hyun Bin's girl is so glowing in her IG post. SYJ looks so genuinely happy. It's the kind of happiness that radiates through her post. There's just something special about her smile in her new picture.

Then Binjin showed up at Baeksang looking very much together. One of the most popular Binjin pictures post-Baeksang is that one of SYJ looking at Hyun Bin. It wasn't only the fan accounts and K-ent blog sites that circulated that picture but even legit news sources in Korea. Knowing how protective K-media is when it comes to their A-listers' privacy and knowing that both HB and SYJ had been caught up in dating rumors since actual legit pictures of them in LA came out last year, I don't think the media would have used that picture in articles if one or both of them were in relationships with other people out of respect. The rumors that were circulated have been proven to be false, groundless, absurd, and embarrassing (HB's camp's words, not mine). As to the SYJ rumor, it seems to be a concerted effort by a faction of anti-fans judging by the similar sounding DMs sent to Binjin shippers on Twitter and comments left on Binjin fan IGs. The post they were referring to was immediately deleted on the internet community it was posted on after commenters said they were sending it to SYJ's agency for legal action. SYJ k-fans were having none of it.

 

When in doubt, always remember that our ship has not given us any reasons to doubt them. They, and the people close to them, have given us so many reasons to keep this ship sailing. They are more credible than any of those randoms that you see on SNS desperately trying to discredit and debunk Binjin will ever be. So just keep shipping and have fun shipping Binjin.

That moment on stage when SYJ glanced back at HB which made him smile at her and then she had this really big smile even without seeing his reaction. It's in moments like these that we are reminded that we have chosen to ship two very low-key and extremely private individuals who also happen to hold significant amount of clout in K-ent as well as the respect of the media. If there are no talk of Binjin dating rumors in SK media then the denials worked because of the privacy it afforded them to live their lives. This reminded me a lot of the expectations at Baeksang. But Binjin are not and have never been the kind of celebrities who liked to call attention to themselves. Baeksang was an industry event held to honor their peers. SYJ's fan meet was organized for her to connect with her fans. Binjin being Binjin, their announcement would most likely be in a heartfelt letter at a moment we least expect.

But seriously though, it’s easy to see how SYJ’s lasted this long in K-ent with very little scandal and issues to her name. The way she and her team handled the fan meeting gave very little room for any speculations about her personal life and HB in particular. They obviously know everyone wants her to talk about him but less talk, less speculation, less media attention. She knows that even if she talked about HB in the context of CLOY and RiRi, some people will still talk about their dating rumors. But her nervous stutter when asked about HB’s letter gave her away. It's really amazing though how it took them almost 20 years to finally have a project together. SYJ has done movies or CFs with actors from Hyun Bin's circle but never with him. The look on SYJ's face when Hyun Bin called YSR a materialistic lump was so funny. She totally didn't expect that from him. He was so playful and flirty in that interview.

 

That was in the tvN promo video that came out around November last year where they interviewed each other. Then when asked how much of SYJ was YSR, he answered 70% and said that SYJ speaks her mind but she's not a blabbermouth like Se-Ri. There's another version where what he said was translated into "obtrusive" instead of blabbermouth.

 

By the time of CLOY's official presscon in December, he said SYJ is almost 100% Yoon Se-Ri and he went on and on about her charms and her hidden side that will come out when plays Se-Ri.

Even he couldn’t believe the explanation he came up with. With those LA pics, it was so obvious that they were really trying so hard to come up with a denial. The pictures spoke for themselves though and the only way they could deny it was to make a rambling explanation that really didn’t explain anything. They really tried so hard but their statements were pure comedy.
