  1. @Alice Wonderland Truee, it's so heartbreaking watching the poor boy reminisces his one sided love moments.. He maybe acting like a loser now but he's not that dense, he knew that JYS is acting out of the ordinary and there is something.. just sucks that it had to be his worst nightmare, JYS falling in love with someone else. Ugh, half of me wants them to end up together.. but we know how that'll turn out if that ever happens, JYS the superior one and JGS the sweet smitten boy.. a scenario coming straight out of a manga

My fear is her character falling into the trope of "mental illness = bad, must be fix in order to be good" So far, it doesnt read that way.

    ...

So even though she learns from experiences & growth, her way of thinking will still be intact. That's why she said she will try to understand SRY(mindset) & has been written in several incidents where she doesnt read the situation like SRY. JYS thinks from A straight to Z in a rational sense while SRY thinks from a A to B to C-etc sense.

Sorry for cutting some of it, but this struck right in the nail.. couldn't be said better. I hope it doesn't reach that route too.. the drama is too good to give us that nutshell. The later part is the real deal! I hate to have this argument with Realistic vs Idealistic.. There are some instance where JYS is more mature than SRY, evidently shown by running Danbam. In real life HY would have been let go, food business without the taste is a no no. It's either replacing or get some more help, that's one way to deal with it.. but he refused and stand firm, thankfully it came through.. SRY's idealism is not to be hated, I do stand with him.. the world would have been a better place if everyone thinks like him.. but the world is a richard simmons. I'm looking forward to them trying to meet each other's ends.

Got to say the cliffhanger slays! I love the music and I go crazy for the whole scene.. it screams like "richard simmons IS ABOUT TO GO DOWN!" I'm too hype, I mean JYS might be a 20yr old but in a sense she might be on par with Chairman Jang, just like SA before who caught his attention a decade ago. The only difference is JYS came to slay she gives off this vibe that I came to hunt.. blood thirst. If you guys happen to watch Yong Pal, they call this high rollers(ie Chairman Jang) as alligators in a swamp(industry)

  2. I apologize to the fellows here who quoted me, I had been very this week that my thoughts are out of place.. I went on a quick read and yeah, I might have been a little too harsh on SA, but same as a friend here who just can't sympathize with SA, I'll be boarding on that boat..

JYS lashing out, is no surprise at all. She's a sociopath, why her disorder shouldn't have been understated from the beginning. Earlier episodes she was showcased as an overly blessed human, slight thing that we were missing out is that, it was JGS's vision of her. JGS is not entirely wrong, yea she is born smart, great at variety of things, successful at a young age but the thing is on JYS's point of view, she earned everything by working her a-s-s off (first scene of her clubbing). She doesn't deny the fact that she's smart, born or self-earned.. being smart doesn't guarantee you success.. you still need to put in the work. Her personality disorder might have been a blessing in disguise, the incapability of feeling remorse just to fulfill your desire played a big part on what she have become. Definitely a curse, a life sentence that she have to live the rest of her days, misfits to other, seen as a threat, violent, toxic, out of her mind, a nasty person.. being said she's no different with DanBam crew. If SA is being sympathized by her burden and that she has no option or she's like a total croo-croo to refuse Jangga then I can't seem to understand the eyes rolling on JYS now that her issues is getting into light. Just like everybody else she has her cross to carry too, it was just clouded with her being well off and by crazy determination to be competently capable to stand with the 'high rollers' in the society.. that she seems not to be tragic enough?

I seriously feel awfully bad towards JGS, but I know for a fact that he knew it coming, more than anyone else. Right this moment aside from her parents, I'm definitely sure JGS is the only person who can be called as her guardian. If SA knows, understands SRY the most, then JGS is the counterpart on JYS's life. He knows how wicked she is, how difficult a person she could be.. despite every flaw he still likes her. Isn't he the one-character-in-every-drama-that-we-wish-to-treasure? He is the one.

    Spoiler

We all know his history it's heartbreaking that a young child feels that he was never loved or never to be needed in that household..that he'd chose poverty over a lavish life. JYS making up with him and being brutally honest, is what friends do.it's not just because she wants to get on SRY's good side again.. yea she admit that she keeps him by her side because of his family background but that's not entirely true, in the conversation she also indicated that she figure him out that she's a loser in love/no ambition type of guy. I'm pretty sure for the years they've been "friends" JYS as a cunning person definitely figured it out sooner.. but look she didn't discarded him way before and even continues hanging out with him with no filter at all, might be she's taking advantage that this loser likes her so that he'll accept everything but as I said she's a cunning one she'll be able to weight out if she's gonna take an L for keeping him. She's not the type of person who'll waste time on something that she gains nothing at all.

JYS putting the effort to make it up with her peers, was it fake? or is it for SRY's sake? I too is contemplating with that, I'm the kind of person who believes that you don't have to change for you to be deemed worthy.. but that's kinda, I don't know not applicable in her case? for her changing is growth perhaps to heal her disorder. I'll just leave this as is for now.

The never ending SA x SRY, I give up on this. The show had me convince that they are a better fit.. Why? if JGS thinks of JYS as a goddess or an angel then SRY thinks the same way with SA. I just don't know with the episodes left how they'll wrap up that romance department going a total mayhem. Now I'm rooting for JGS happiness above all.. I won't mind at all if he ends up with JYS. The drama is a total mess in my eyes, for they are giving this atmosphere that SRY x SA kinda lives or they have a world of their own. Though I'm not ignoring the subtle hints from SRY like one of our chingu here mentioned that, SRY keeps telling SA that he doesn't need her but JYS is a must for him.. that somehow pulled me back away from the disappointment I was having. Probably I paid little attention with the age gap where now it's completely visible and that their maturity level clashes.. that got me settled to think that SRY still thinks of JYS as a young one, but does credit and acknowledge her abilities.

    Spoiler

LAST RANT: I ALSO HATE THAT SRY IS ALL APOLOGETIC WITH THE LASHING OUT INCIDENT. Damn, it somehow shows that she's like harmless individual who unfortunately got involved.. victim. yeah that's the word. Don't get me wrong I totally give up on the SA individual case, now I'm getting frustrated with SRY.

    P.S.

    -  I'm sorry I'm too lazy to quote.. and just call outs the person I'm referring to as a chingu/friend.

  3. @greenwatch08 Of course JYS is the star LOL. Chinguu, don't get me started to go fan-girl mode over again  JYS is what got me hyped up on IC aside from PSJ. The webtoon is the original work from the author which is why I can't just take my mind out of it, but we do share the same sentiment in regards of SA, but I won't discredit her as a key character for she basically started it all, without her no one would have known that JGW was the one who hits PSRY's father, without her.. Itaewon won't be introduced to PSRY and she also did ignite revenge on him. But yeah after the time-skip, it's just as you said.

@Broaddaylight No worries, I may not know  South Korea's exact economical-social status.. but I too was born in a country that is almost the same or maybe lesser than South Korea, lower rank as well. I won't compare mine with SA since everyone has their own cross to carry.. Numbers are facts, it doesn't lie but it's not everything, life is constantly unpredictable. Yes, Jangga's offer as I said it's a life-changing opportunity.. 90% could be tempted and grab on it, but I am on the 10% that treasures people/relation more. The world rotates without certainty, SA passing on Jangga doesn't mean she won't have another chance ever. She gained a friend, PSRY, it can start with that.. there's a reason why Adam was given an Eve. Just to make it clear, I'm not expecting anything on SA in regards of PSRY's danbam to succeed, or anything at all. Leave or not, it won't matter.

    P.S. -- I'd be mindful of that. :)

Chingu, you should call out the person you were referring to, not leaving it out like this.. it draws out toxicity.

Okay, if you happen to be pointing me out.. first I'd like to apologize if I somehow sting you with what I wrote.

But I'd like to give my quick take with SA.

    Spoiler

SA as a highly staff of the Janggs is truly amazing, from an orphan who find her way get into a college and be successful at the moment is something to be credit for. But let me ask something, if SRY's father didn't die.. would the life-changing opportunity knock on her? I doubt, she only has SRY father before the incident.. she has no friends, she's an orphan.. sure she can get into a scholarship she's a smart girl after all, but school is not the only factor, surviving alone is the focal point, what might happen is she's going to work her richard simmons off doing part-time jobs to earn money for college and to live.. that's a tough road ahead. Basically what I'm saying is, she took the shortcut by joining hands with the devil. What's the price? Injustice to SRY's father, Geunwoo get's off the hook and most of all SRY's "BITTER NIGHTS" . You don't do that to a friend, to a father like to you.. you just don't.

See, I know SA is coming from somewhere.. I don't belittle her misery or refuses to understand. DanBam vs Jangga battle is her second chance to redeem herself, to free herself yet she shows no slowing down. Why ask why does she need to leave everything for SRY, I have a different thing in mind with that.. Her everything, is an outcome from benefiting SRY's deepest wound, she owe it to him.

    ezgif-com-resize.png

For me this is not just business preposition, it was shown at the end of EP2 where times had passed and she is living the life she have chosen. This particular scene tells a lot, this shows her perception through the years, or possible with her grief as an orphan or getting pitied at, her gaze and vibe shifted in a maleficent feels, it's dark as you can see. At one point I believed that through the years she's with Jangga she became one with it, her and chairman Jangg share the same idealism in someways.

She's miserable despite all the success she has right now. She's alone, guilty, a dog to the Janggs and frustrated with her romantic feelings with SRY. However she's now a well off lady who's competent at work, but is force to snitch a friend-lover due to her imprisonment from the deal she made with the devil a decade ago.

I don't view her as born evil, she is not.. it has nothing do with her baggage as well. She just gave in and lost her way, that was a choice she made..

    an angel once said..

    4141414141.png

Park Sae Ro-Yi is a perfect example...

I'm just frustrated how they change a significant piece on the webtoon, just to test this triangle more.. and make it more dramatic to the SRY - SA love line, it's unnecessary imo.

You put everything nicely there. That is why I wish writer drops that love idiocy between SR and SA asap. It's so obnoxious. But.. wait, what is "Mendokusai"? It's like a Japanese, isn't it?

Yup. Yup.... can't wait for their progress. That bus scene keep me replaying the preview over and over.

Hahahaa... same here! She's so amusing! Whenever she sneers or smiles or chuckles, she looks cute and funny. I like her laughters when she laughs at BokHee. Tho.. the part of slapping her is a bit scary. I remember watching the making film of the kiss scene. PSJ told that her position made her look like a knight. LOL. I feel like it is more special since it's quite rare to have a FL like her in dramaland. On top of that, it's usually a male role has these characters.

And... YS is really a good marketing manager. I mean, I'm in love with all her coats and leather jackets.

    Thank you :)

Yes it's Japanese, means troublesome. I feel you chingu, I mean I understand this was needed to put more angst.. but I have a little less tolerance especially when it's pretty obvious that SA is playing a victim, a perpetrator and somehow playing the role of the infamous noble idiocy. I mean come on, pick just one.. putting to much on something makes it messy and tiresome. Thing is I don't really hate SA, she's a character that is trying to convey a message on how we should love ourselves when no one does.. but she kinda take it to extreme that she totally shuts off people even the ones that truly cares. However betraying for selfish reason, puts me off bigtime. I also read somewhere in this thread that on the webtoon, SA was the one who ratted SRY to suspension.. but they change it and that ended up adding more conflict, she sold them out once.. second time won't be a surprise, make her character consistent at the very least.

SAME HEREE! Wonder where they're going and why and how did it ended like that, ugg my mind is going nuts, gosh I really want to read the webtoon so badly :tears:

You nailed it right there.. it's not everyday we could see female lead having to be this badass, she's like an oasis..true this kind of  characters are typically for male but KDM is pulling it off brilliantly. She just brings everything in the table, who gives off a superior vibe when you just got slapped and got your cheek swollen, while getting chased? :phew:  I'm not a fan of leather jackets but she makes me wanna try them on LOL also not the tallest but how can she rock both long and short coats with a swirly bob hair, and still managed to be a chic. Lastly, I like how she's keeping up her word, that she's more competent than her mother thinks.. consistent and safe to say a compliment trait with SRY, might be why their gut feels weigh the same.

  6. It's pretty simple to me, whom who chooses to love more is a love that is deserving and triumphant whether they get the person or not. I remember watching Reply 1988, Jung Hwan defined perfectly why he didn't succeed. At first he tried to blame "timing", but it was because of his countless hesitations, which is why I really felt bad for him, one of the saddest emotion to feel is having the chance but you pass on it. For some regret, becomes a life sentence.

IMO,  SRY and SA are both hesitating way too long. In a person's life, TIME is what we truly possesses in this world. They both set aside time to fulfill their respective desires. I'm pretty sure what they have right now is them clinging onto the past when everything was harmonious and once connected by a person, SRY's father. They were never compatible to begin with, sure what they felt was real (first love perhaps?) even in that young age, but SA abandoned him. It's actually crappy how opportunity presents itself with the father and son being the price. Where then she realized much earlier that love is not what she wanted the most.. exactly the reason why she shamelessly took advantage of SRY feelings to diminish her guilt and the love she has for him. That was also the moment that him and her would never happen, doomed and went separate ways.

What SA says that SRY makes her feel crappy, is not right.. it's the guilt that she'll forever be carrying upon facing SRY is what makes her feel that way. She feels that she's not worthy of his feelings as it was said on her thoughts 'he was just always shining' to her. Thus will strengthen her love myself stigma. She still redeems herself by constantly worrying on SRY, that makes her less Mendokusai  to me.

On the other hand, JYS whom has not given yet a chance is putting everything at stake to love more.. already won me over.

Can't wait to see how the story unfolds, getting more complicated.

    • Looking forward to DanBam crew without SA tagging along . LOL (tho I like SA and JYS bickering, they're both a cutie)
    • Jangga biz

    • Geun Soo
    • Of course SRY and JYS progress.. UwU

  7. Well, I do think SA likes SYR back, the feeling is mutual but their feelings differ in color. . if SYR goes with gradient then SA probably abstract, there's just a lot going on inside of her. I mean if she truly likes rich guys then why not date the chairman's son since he was hitting on her ever since high school, so I'm not buying that crap that she likes rich guys.. however I do think she said it right to SYR is for him to be more human like. During their senior year or high school days SYR is clearly viewing the world differently than others maybe because he never experienced something that strongly opposes his principles .. and then bam! there we have the Jang father and son duo, who straight up just run over his rooted conviction. I definitely know that despite everything, he would never end up like SA.. SA sure knows SYR better for she knows that the kind of guy he is, he won't change.. yes he won't I'm talking about principles in life but not with the matters of the heart in romance department lmao.. and that's why SA and SYR would never happen.. The girl wants to get what she wants whatever it takes, even ignoring or taking advantage of a connection with a father like to her and a SYR whom she dearly loves.. Meanwhile SYR maybe plotting revenge which was ignited by SA, but he chose to accomplish things without stomping on others.

With the casting of the drama, I'm glad that it turned out this way.. PSJ and KNR surely are familiar faces, but for KDM it's my first time to watch her.. I'm truly amazed on how she's pulling JYS character magnificently maybe her being a new face helps a little bit but I'm gonna say I really like her facial expressions, the way on dropping lines, her angst and probably her figure especially when they were running.. at first I haven't read any spoilers or anything about IC so I thought, she must be a second lead or a supporting cast.. but when she's being highlighted in the episodes, it struck me, oh she's the main lead, she definitely is.. I just had the gut feeling from ep 1&2 that SA would not be the end game.

    Spoiler

I'm so hyped with Itaewon Class, that I would really like to read the webtoon.. I tried searching but there's only up to chapter 12 with English Subs. Do you guys know where to read the full webtoon with eng subs? I actually prefer to pay but I don't think there's an official subbing source for Itaewon Class yet.. hope they make a book out of it.

The Christmas spirit is just pure LOVE :wub:Ongsan neighborhood is truly the best, gee I'm a total sucker with heart-warming shows :tears: Good thing, I keep visiting the thread.. Netflix subs is not that reliable, I was wondering why that patch on that uniform was girlish.. Aside from the magnificent ambulance scene and Ongsan's networking, I love how PG and YS's mom reconciled.. it went so naturally, sometimes I do think that speaking by actions is better than hearing in words.. the show really did a splendid job delivering its message, values and lessons. Lastly, I was really moved how they took care of Dongbaeks household especially through Pil Gu. Looking forward on the two special episodes B)

Yea but I've watched enough dramas to know that the breakup was a sort of impasse? Y'know to generate more..wait for it..drama:rolleyes: Plus I actually think some time apart will be good for both. Dong Baek's way too attached to Pil Gu, so until she gets therapy or grows up or get her act together maybe, just maybe..she can be with Yong Shik. 'Cause right now she frustrates me LoL! Yea I say it 'gain she really doesn't deserve him. :P

Yep, drama sure is  just like you I've watched decent amount of kdramas and as for me this is the break up that really makes sense, I've been to that noble-idiocy road watched that for the nth time, typical its us against the world, I'm no good for you such things.. But hey two adults breaking up knowing exactly why and why they should let go of each other, this doesn't happen very often. You were right they sure need some time apart, but we might differ on DB being way too attached on PG.. again PG is not an obstacle to their relationship even YS understood that why he felt so helpless. Sometimes the saying right love at the wrong time, damn happens. Don't get me wrong I'm not overly protecting DB here.. it's just that her circumstances is acting like a richard simmons taking advantage of her limitations. I do feel the same way about you sometimes, coz a guy like YS is to GRAB FOR! Let me share a scene where I really felt infuriated on her, it's when KJR stating reality checks on his financial status over YS (it's a jerk move, but hey he's talking life here). YS clearly told her not let KJR in her bar again, but she's still letting him in and for goodness sake she should've slapped him real hard that time, but she didn't.. all we get, is, wait for it.. HEY!  no wonder YS's mom barge in with a purpose.

I think parenting is like the luck of the draw tbh. There've been decent folks with crappy kids & decent kids with crappy parents. There's just no tellin' how they'd turn out. I mean I've heard from countless complaints how they didn't know whether to be a friendly parent or a strict disciplinarian parent.

Couldn't agree more! But I do still think parental guidance would play a big part on shaping up ones core.

    --

I found no flaws how they delivered the break up scene, foremost okay might be a unpopular opinion but I sure like how they take this emotionally. Their relationship is bound to overcome tons or humongous hurdles ahead, they did went through a lot. It would be a lie to completely ignore and not be bothered by the circumstances that DB's in. In a short span of spring they laugh, they cry together, one ran and one chases the other, one went off head on battling social enigma. Other went to fight her own self, strive and driven by YS's love, enduring unavoidable agony (YS's mom), life threatening incident and factors.. and was currently facing life itself together. Stating these things both were fighting and holding on for one another in their own way, it dismantles the question and grounds on whom loves more.. Waiting, don't take it for granted. It's a significant time were you or the other can fall out of love, no one knows what the future holds. I get it, it's not like their cutting off one another so it's really not that dramatic-dramaland-case after all, but I'm pretty sure they're going to do the break up properly.. being apart, not being able to show affection and intimacy they need, to shut off their feelings for the time being, I personally don't think it's an easy task. They established a pretty solid bond not just romantic involvement but the companionship that naturally came along.. it's worth the tears, Why I would totally bawl my eyes out just like the two of them did.

Sorry but not all mothers are like that. Perfect example is Jessica. She has never carried nor touch the tiny baby, not even for a photo session. She practically ignores the baby and only cares about her title, Mrs. KJR. Sadly, there are people like that in real life.

Agree to that 100% Facts. Which is why they're not entitled to be called Mother, or they refuse to be one. My take on Jessica is exactly as Hyang Mi said on the drama. Parenting is definitely a huge part on how a child might turn into, sucks to say but her parents and herself are to blame, she brought that to herself, if DB who's an orphan not to mention all her unfortunate life experiences somehow still managed to be a lovely person, then why can't she?  but it's not too late for her, I hope she does find the will or calling to change just like HM and NGT.

  12. Thing is I think the break up is inevitable, I'm actually surprised that it came this late. It became like that because of DB, she held on to YS as long as she could, for all the odds and variables and DB as the person she was it's nearly impossible for her to even date YS.. but then because YS relentlessly pursue her give her the confidence/love/respect that she needed,DB started standing firm but life was an absolute **** and PG isn't an obstacle for her to overcome, PG is her son, her life.. Yes DB is a woman first before being a mother, but once you became a mother you can never turn your back on motherhood. YS on the other hand got rewarded even before he caught the Joker or risk his life, he was loved back by DB before he succeeded.

On the other hand I'm not at all disregarding nor discrediting all YS's effort and love. In fact it's really devastating how it seems that everything went down on them breaking up. YS had always been there he brings everything on the table even going on against his mother. I feel frustrated on how the-good-guys-in-drama-land always get the shorter end of the stick..but then again YS should never win against PG as of this moment and he exactly knew that, in his inner thoughts the end of episode 18, well damn I don't even know how he feels right that moment. I would really love if this happens in the last 2 episodes..

    Untitled.png

My take on YS's mom, I don't feel disappointed on how her character turned out. For all I know MOTHER would go to any lengths or hell for their child. I don't really like how the neighborhood or YS's mom had this social condemnatory and stereotypes with single moms, but YS's mom is neither right or wrong but one thing I'm sure that it's her duty of a mother to make sure that her child walks on a flowery path.

ONGSAN is probably the unsung heroes of the whole production, the neighborhood feels so alive and someone already said here that it feels like it do exist somewhere.. especially the ONGVENGERS who bring tears and warm to DB, I love how tsundere they were or I'm just a sucker for treating someone with no blood relation like a family like one of theirs.

Pil Gu is just seriously amazing beyond words. I cried buckets for him.. being proud on how he was brought up to how he is, his character screams balance and perfectly written as he may be mature in someways but the drama is not going overboard demolishing that he is still an 8 year old kid. Almost all his lines hit the right feels, may it be with DB, YS, KJR, YS's mom, DB's mom and even his friend Jung Gi. He definitely deserved an award KBS make this happen!!

As for the Joker, mainly because I don't want them to use the remaining episodes. I'd like it to stay as it is.. case closed as HS's father so that the detective skills of YS won't go to waste and just wrapped it up by explaining his purpose by him or through HS or pretty sure the writer won't fall short to this. I hope that it won't be a cliche HS getting revenge on YS. They shouldn't rush wrapping up every relationship that has with all the characters with 2 episodes left, should be enough. Hoping for more cuddly time with Dongbaek and Yongshik!
