I agree it's very greedy and irresponsible of sport donga to drop the bomb right after the drama to take advantage of its hype, but It doesn't make sense to me that they dared run a story without an ounce of truth in it. If that was the case, they might run a risk of being sued for the damage done to the involved parties' reputation.
Some may argue that PP are not stupid to confide in others about them having dated for a while, but you should know in case they date, they can't date by themselves everytime. They must meet and disclose this secret to their close friends and not everyone can keep secret. I'm by no mean implying their friends were being disloyal and tipped off the media but let's say they tell it to their other close friend and that close friend tells it to someone else, that's how hearsay is created and spread.
And yes, not every dating rumor has to have photos to be true. HyunA and EDawn are the most recent example. They still bravely admitted it although the media has nothing to support the claim and I bet many people must've known about it too cuz they've been dating for two years. Even the cases with photos can be denied completely like Park shin Hye and lee jong suk who insisted that they were just close friends. Obviously the media couldn't do anything about it and dispatch even bitterly said "we hope your friendship lasts long". Baek jin hee and her current bf also denied twice because netizens spotted similiarities in their instagram posts, but admitted after one year.
Eventually people believe what they want to believe and because we have no proof whatsoever so everything remains speculations.
i remember vividly in psh and ljs case dispatch was being so insistence they even shared a lot more of photos but the denial was stronger to beat and the latter let it pass in the end.

dispatch knows a lot more than we've ever thought we knew, but they have their own momentum. when a media outlet releases a dating news and is denied dispatch will then come through with their low quality photos and they'll have no other choices but to admit it.
back in 2013, i was shipping jis and shk after that winter the wind blows but my shipper heart crushed as soon as the drama over for dispatch came through with pictorials of jis and kim min hee. then years later i found out that at the filming period sjk had once visited the site to meet both jis and shk, and later on they were married.
again in reply 1988 era, i was shipping rjy and hr. we, shippers, were certain that they were an item though all we did was speculating from their gestures and instagram posts too. there were lots of flying rumours saying that k-showbizz insiders knew about them some even said that they started seeing each other during filming back in 2015. and it was not until august last year dispatch came out with photos of the two having a cute date by the lake.
ahn-goo couple news was out one year after their drama concluded. jung so min and lee joon's news was released only this year's new year after she had finished with btimfl when they could've released it after her weekend drama wrapped up yet they didn't.
i'd like to echo your sentiments of not believing some dating news unless it's dispatch who makes the move, but when they say insiders know something's going on part of me chooses to believe because maybe there's some truths to it. though less of credibility they might have held but they are the ones on the field so it's likely for them to know the gossips

@dydrawer hi! omg i thought no one knew them hahaha i aint a canadian but i found out about their amazing work from last february's olympics and been following them ever since.
whenever seeing them getting touchy feely my heart skips a beat but hell breaks loose when i discovered them not more than "business partners" but seriously because of them i grew fond of watching ice skating especially ice dancing, it's beyond beautiful!

I beg to disagree with the whole "the ball is in psj's hands" remark like why can't it be the other way around? or why don't they both be proactive with their approach?
i mean, for a relationship to be able to work fine and best is because of the two parties involved are equal in making efforts. i know that it's been like that, in our society, that the man should come front first and the lady is sitting comfortably at her reign waiting for the profession but it still works too if we switch the sequence. what i'm trying to get at is that it's not only one party who should be doing all his/her might to steal the other's heart, it should've been mutual. it should've been equal. both can profess each other's feeling to one another at the same time, both can make great efforts approaching one another thus they can meet in the middle.
like miso, even though she said that it was lee young joon who was the first developing feelings for her but little did she know that deep down they were falling for each other at the same time, but the denials strongly clouded them, so they failed to realize that the attractions have always been from the get go.
