Let me guess, you read this on OneHallyu and that person happens to know someone who lives in that small village where Secretly Greatly was filmed?

    Spoiler

.Could you enlighten me but why does the ppl from that place and sometimes All kpop always post negative reports on Kim Soo Hyun. I remember when I'm new and was trying to read more on him the people in those forums commented negatively towards his character, that Soo Hyun has a bad character bc of something he wtote on his sns probably as a joke (remember  he'd a jokester as he dress up as a sister once)... and some ppl say he even say things about marrying a 21 years old at 41... Don't  they understand humor? Oh and of course the fake scandal. I GUESS that's why Soo Hyun become protective of his image after his popularity rise.

I've also been to one blog and the owner of that popular blog is always criticizing him bc she feels he was all over the place after MLFAS.... smfh. Haters doesnt like him not because of his acting or anything but bc of his popularity and made up rumors in which there  are no clear cut proof. It makes me angry and protective when ppl take news about his supposedly 'personality' to degrade him. I guess that's why antis think we are one of the worst Fandom? How ridiculous is that.

Quote from Pierce Conran, film reviewer from Modern Korean Cinema:

"I understand a lot of the criticisms of the film yet the ridicule has taken on a life of its own. Once a little time passes and if people approach it with different expectations, perhaps the local perspective will change over time. That said, I've spoken to several people here, many in the film industry, who love the film."

That's very comforting to hear. Every positive feedback from Real we appreciate :3 I've already loved the movie before I've seen it I've collected every single image and gif I can find online. I just love Jang Tae Yeong so much. Real Fighting!

I had no idea he smokes. He looks so clean cut. I just can't imagine it lol. Would like to see maybe a photo shoot of it. ^^

When you watch it, just keep in mind the theme of the movie is about self actualization, based on Maslow's hiearchy of needs, and you will have no problem following the plot (at least the main plot).  There are lots of nuances used throughout the movie such as the appearance of sharks and water, and the use of color such as red and blue than can add more details, but that requires further dissection to understand.

Thanks for the info! This is a really deep movie. I'll probably be watching it a few times to get it.

@min woo are you in HK?  You should go watch Real on the big screen if you are.  There are also various fanclubs that are organizing block bookings on different nights so you can watch it with other KSH fans.

I'm with KSH, regardless of what critics say, Real is one of my favorite projects of his.  Gosh, I am really missing JTY now :frown:

No I'm in the Caribbean (Belize) atm but I'd purchase a ticket to watch everyday if I was in Hong Kong. I'm avidly following the development of this project... I admit that Ive already develope a somewhat unhealthy emotional attachment to this movie and I haven't even seen it. I just saw some clips... I will definitely make up for it by purchasing anything else I can get my hands online but I haven't seen any available. :(

Yes, I also feel like we never saw them fall in love, and I'm not entirely sure why they are. (That is a script issue, not an acting issue, I believe.)

I had the exact thought. Glad I'm not the only one who feels like I got cheated of a love story. I feel as if I was told that they are in love and that's it. I was really hoping to see a good love story between Suzy character and LJS bc I like them and I was really excited for this drama. I hope LJS next project will have zero or minimal romance bc I hope to see a different side to his acting just like in VIP.

From a fan @gilaswan in WYWS thread:

So I've been reading the comments made of Lee Jongsuk's acting being "half-hearted" or him not being "sufficiently immersed" in this drama.

    And Hubby's opinion?

Lee Jongsuk is doing perfectly portraying the character of Jung Jaechan who is meant to be a bit socially unwilling, at times aloof, awkward, fearful of commitment, but having all of that overturned by Nam Hongjoo who is awakening sensibilities in him he kept dormant since his father died. AND I AGREE!

Thank you to the commentor! That's exactly what we were saying here. Jae Chan is still not my favorite LJS character but that's the way he was written and LJS did more and what he could to bring life to this character. We need to look less at why isn't a character more emotive in certain situations and look more at what kind of character is he supposed to be.

Why is it people always compare him with LMH? and some with LJS. At first i was ok, but the more i read the more i got irritated. Those people always undermine KSH and say that he's overrated

I like all 3 mentioned but KSH has become my biggest bias which I actively follow and support. People compare LMH to KSH bc they're both the most recognized face of Hallyu. I do admit LMH is generally more popular internationally but that's given that he's been around longer and has more dramas. He was the face of Hallyu for many years. His fan must feel quite threaten when KSH become the new face of Hallyu in 2014-2015 with only MLFTS. (It's like Song Jong Ki with DOTS in 2016.)

LJS acting is quite good and he has picked good projects. He's also extremely active (and in social media) thus has gained a lot of intl fans in the past 2 yrs. He also debut the same year as KSH so it's understandable why they would compare them. All 3 were due to enlist this year bc they are around the same age. There was also an article in 2014 that hailed these 3 (along with Kim Woo Bin) as the new Kings of Hallyu so you can see why ppl always bicker about who is more deserving.

I believe the reason why some ppl say that KSH is overrated is mainly bc they have only watched one of his works (which they didnt love) or any at all. KSH has not been active on screen (besides CFs) for 2 years. It didn't help that Real open to bad reviews in SK. People in SK seems to have this mentality towards not so active actors (e.g. Won Bin) that they're overrated bc they don't have enough new works to show and they're only riding on old fame to make money. IMHO I believe that people are just jealous that even tho KSH isn't that active, he's still beloved in general and has been so endearing even with only one mega-hit. But it's the same for a lot of actors... e.g. his ceo Bae Yong Joon, the original King of Hallyu with one Winter Sonata.

He is a pessimistic person, and generally have low self esteem:(

He said recently how he is insomniac, and stays awake all night, it has a lot to do with his personality, I wonder why he feels so down these days, slump maybe. Anyway, he seemed happy in Halloween in his cafe, it feels nice to see him have fun.

Sometimes we forget underneath that Hallyu star there is a shy young boy, who is just like any of us, trying to be better , seeing him in 3MAD is refreshing, since we saw that side!

His personality is somewhat similar to my own, but that's not really good esp with his workload and career type. People who are critical of themselves and their works usually tend to have a low esteem so I do see why he's like that. They tend to have too much brain activity, always worrying or thinking (too much) about something (even trivial matters). When is his military enlistment due?

JS is as cool as Kang Chul and as shy as Jae Chan. He can act, he can dance, he has brains, he has incredible sensitivity to other people. He is hard on himself (too hard) and tries for such high heights. I wish (as Han Hyo Joo mentioned in an interview last year) that he could see that he IS good enough. Wish he could see himself the way his friends and fans see him. Personally, I love knowing that he is a person with strengths and weaknesses. I really admire the way he acknowledges weaknesses and then tries to address them. I find it inspiring as a person and as an artist. And yes, as you noticed, @min woo, he may have a youthful aura on screen, but as HHJ commented,  he is actually very mature and serious when it comes to his professional work.

I love Kang Cheol. I hope to see him in more thrillers. He has a perfectionist mindset. Sadly, he will never be easy on himself and see himself as good enough. In a way, that's good bc that's his drive but I do hope he takes it easy on himself sometimes. How could he not be good enough when there's so many ppl who admires him.

  11. I haven't seen an awful lot of Korean dramas but I do have a good amount I've seen. Fom the ones I've seen:

    1. My Love From The Star (Fantasy, comedy, romance, lighthearted and crack drama...)

    2. Jewel In The Palace (Epic historical gem...)

    3. Did We Really Love? (Very old but Bae Yong Jun and Kim Hye Soo are golden)

    4. W Two World (Fantasy romance, refreshing plot, Manhwa! Kang Cheol)

    5. Pinnochio (Interesting plot and characters, great chemistry and tensions)

He worked back to back in 4 difficult projects, among them his acting in VIP and W got acclaim:heart:

Even senior actors make mistakes on picking roles, so our Sukkie did the same mistake this time, but he did not even read the script, so there is that. Lets hope Jae Chan improves later on the show, shows some other complex side of him tho many episodes are not left, this will not be a favourite character of mine, or drama for that matter coz it is all over the place, but still lets hope his character shows some development!

I notice that's he's quite the pessimistic eh. Ive read some of his interviews and he is always criticizing himself. :(

When I watch a few of his BTS, he is very serious... he does have his fun moments but he rarely make mistakes and I do admire that about him.

    Welcome to the fandom:blush:

Thanx for liking Jae Chan^_^, I realised I was focusing too much on the negative criticisms, people not liking Jae Chan that I almost forgot how many people like his character. I read comments saying how hilarious he is, how his expressions are comic gold. That counts for a lot too. Yes this might be his simplest character, but this shows a new side of Jong Suk which we have never seen before.

There will always be people who nitpick, has a different opinion but its good that many are appreciating jae Chan as well.

I agree JC on paper is a very bland, cold character, kudos to Sukkie for pulling it through. I love how he suddenly changes his voice, or that crazy expressions he makes:D

Thank you. :) I do have a soft spot for this drama that's why I'm hanging on. The drama is beautiful visually (concept is good as well) and I'm willing to ride til the end. I hope the scriptwriter will do justice for all the characters and plot points. I don't love Jae Chan after episode 3  (I'm at episode 8 only tho since I rely on subs from Viki) but I do like what little LJS did with it.

I have to say that JJC is a totally new character for JS (which I appreciate). His attempts to avoid things outside his comfort zone are  hilarious. Hopefully the plot steps up for all characters. I do like the interaction between the three (JJC, WT, and NHJ as a trio).

I read that he accepted the role without reading the script. I don't think it was his intention. In VIP he did venture outside of his comfort zone and I only hope to see him doing more challenging roles in the future. And you're right. When it's the 3 of them together (JC, HJ, and WT) it's actually really good.

  14. I felt the same way with a lot of you. The first 2 episodes captured my attention and I would have like that Jae Chan remained the way he was in episode 1 and and Hong Joo was fine with the comedic transformation. And you're right. Some drama are about the story, but WYWS did felt disjointed and that's the main reason it's losing my interest. At one point I force myself to continue I episode 4 and I actually went and watch Pinnochio instead and fell in love with that drama.

One thing for me when Im watching an actor's performance is not how emotional they get but if they portray the character that is given to them convincely and I do not feel as if LJS failed in this aspect. Ive seen a lot of drama with introvert characters being critique by the general viewers as 'underwhelming acting'. If you look at the movement of their eyes instead of their facial expressions, it would help a lot more. I'm an introvert myself and I do feel that what's written is justified. However I don't love his character & it will remain in my memory as such.

The other thing I felt as if this show failed is its weak progressive plot (not the concept bc the concept is good) and the chemistry between our 2 leads. Suzy did very well with her character relationship with her mother but not LJS im the later episodes and it's vice versa for him.

I would like to see LJS taking on a more challenging role the next time around.

Me too! I can't wait to see this drama even if it's boring (which I hope not).

Honestly I agree with you. It's LJS who's been breathing life to a seriously boring character. If it was for him acting Jae Chan, I would've already drop this drama. He's doing his best where the script lacks. If you look at Jae Chan without LJS in mind, you would notice that his character is really underdeveloped and blant. And I'm not being bias bc I'm a LJS fan. Before WYWS I was never a LJS fan even tho I've seen him around forever since and I've known LJS face for years as he debut. After I saw the first 2 episodes of WYWS, I began watching his other works and I came to like him as an actor.

that what i said to that mod in wyws thread .. that they made a good a team nd that what made the drama good & fun to watch...

his words r really really frustrating

Exactly. I get frustrated everytime someone says an adequate actor is under-performing in their roles. That's the character that they have to work with. It's how it's written. Up until recently bc I've been losing interest in the show, I've only been watching to see LJS performance and to me, he's carrying the show for me.

We shall discuss this show here.
