    Actress Kim AJoong will continue to work as a member of the Seoul International Women's Film Festival and as the honorary executive committee following last year.

     

    SIWFF on the 17th said “Kim AJoong following the 19th anniversary will continue as the honorary member of the committee which marks the 20th anniversary this year.”

     

    Based on her close relationship with SIWFF, Kim AJoong who has steadily performed from as the 1st Feminist to the honorary executive committee is expected to have a more special meeting with the audiences who are looking forward to the festival to mark its 20th anniversary this year.

     

    Kim AJoong is the 1st feminist of the Seoul International Women's Film Festival from 2015 to 2016 and served as an honorary executive committee member for two years leading the way in communicating with the audience based on her in-depth views on women's films. This time she will meet the audience through ‘Bombshell’ guest visit which will be screened at 1:30pm on the 2nd of June. Guest visit is expected to be with director Byun Youngjoo (like last year) who she has been a special collaborator at the opening ceremony of the 18th Seoul International Women's Film Festival. In addition, she will also participate as a special judge in the I-Teens Training section for teenaged female directors and will serve as the host of guest visit which will be held after showing the final film at 6pm on June 3rd.

     

    Kim AJoong who continues to be an honorary member of the committee that draw attention said “For me, my relationship with SIWFF is like a family. In particular, for those who visit the festival which marks the 20th anniversary this year we are taking places to be able to convey the charm well until the end.”

    Hello Majoongies! How are you all doing? Hope everyone is fine ^_^ I’ve been busy these past few days so it took me a while to finish this translation, it’s her cosmopolitan 2014 interview :)

    When asked about how to look pretty she answered “Don’t do anything that is not you”. She knew that self-confidence and comfort over any dress, jewelry or makeup would make women most beautiful.

    People are curious about your secret on how to maintain a good figure. I knew that your figure is pretty but during the photoshoot I really thought that the word ‘divine body’ was right. 

    Hahaha. Thank you, but as you can see there are flab here and there.

     

    There is none though...

    There is. And there are so many people who have nice body these days.

     

    Let's not talk about other ethnicity born in the ‘90s. Even though you speak humbly, if you search Kim Ajoong on Naver ‘jump rope’ & ‘low-salt food’ appears. Many are very interested with your ‘body secret’. Please let us know.

    I did jump rope a lot during my second to third year high school but I don't play it these days. Instead I have to control 2-3 kg of my weight because I am a little heavier now or I do PT when I need to get in shape a couple of months before entering a production. I exercise without equipments, I put on weight and just exercise with bare hands. Some people intentionally eat low-salt food these days but I’m not like that because I normally don’t like spicy and salty food so I do it naturally.

     

    Neither your eating habit nor exercising is much different from the way we do it, I guess you’re just born with that shape.

    I don't know anything else but my mom has pretty nice legs. I'm a little bit heavier now but my legs are a little thinner than my body. My father’s legs are also long, maybe it’s genetic.

    I really envy you. Still, depending on the condition sometimes do you feel you’re not pretty?

    Of course. My back and shoulders are stiff when I'm a little tired. My face swells up and trouble rises.

     

    So what do you do?

    If I feel tired or my shoulders are tight I massage to relax the muscles. I do not half-bath at home but instead taking a full-bath. It helps the circulation. But I can't help it when I'm busy shooting so I just leave it swollen.

     

    Don’t you feel upset when you look at it while monitoring?

    I can't help it when I’m working. If I care too

    much on my appearance it will make my acting strange. It was actually a little like that today. I got up in the morning and looked in the mirror and it doesn't seem right. So I was really worried about coming to the set.

     

    Does your heart shriveled when that happens? You lose confidence. Do you have any know-how to boost your self-confidence in this situation?

    I just believe. The photographer will take care of it. In fact when shooting a drama or movie, we just keep shooting until I get the most natural image. If the acting is okay even though I don’t look good, we don’t call it NG. However in the case of photoshoots I do not seem to be very careful because we take many cuts to choose the best cut.

    Wow! I guess that confidence and faith makes you look more beautiful. 

    Confidence makes both men and women look cool and beautiful. But when I take pictures I don’t think I have to be confident. I think I'm just enjoying it (the moment). I don't usually like to take selfies but doing photoshoots can transform you and make a difference, it is fun to work with a photographer who is in good harmony with me.

     

    So shall we talk about Kim Ajoong’s usual self? What do you usually look like?

    I usually don't wear miniskirt or shorts because I wear it a lot on air. I tend to dress comfortably. But if I wear vague-silhouette clothes I will look a bit fat so I put on hanging-fit clothes.

    (Not very familiar with fashion so I’m not sure about this one)

     

    How about makeup? I saw Kim Heeae in <Noona Over Flowers> saying she just applies sunscreen, BB cream and always wear mascara. Is there anything that you particularly care about?

    I think the most important thing to express is my skin so I try to make it look moist. So I use Vidi Vici multi oil. I put it on my face, body and on my hair. I really like oil. I even do oil pulling. :o

    Kim AJoong, Again

     

    Actress Kim AJoong who honestly loved and faced her wounds from Joseon Dynasty to Modern era traveled across to San Francisco. Then she came back again.

     

    It was an unexpected move. She returned to romance rather than genres like <Punch> or <Wanted> which are characters who are tough enough to build up her own presence and lead the story among men. However in the drama <Live Up To Your Name> she played Choi Yeonkyung who is not only a light character who easily falls in love and moves between emotions that are hard to sympathize with but also has a strong mentality that overcomes her childhood trauma. Kim AJoong who showed an impressive emotional performance as ‘Yeonkyung’ in both Joseon and Modern era recorded a fairly high ratings. After finishing her work she traveled to San Francisco on a short schedule. The answers after the trip were still filled with traces of anxieties and the mindset created during her long career. As they said traveling is the perfect time to meet yourself as a whole. So Kim AJoong came back like she is ready to accept any work.

    You played in a romance genre after a long time. It seems that <Live Up To Your Name> is very different from <Punch> and <Wanted>.

    <Live Up To Your Name> is also a multi-genre. We call it a medical time slip adventure drama. (laughs) But it wasn't something as dark as a thriller that was holding the overall tone of the story. Even so my character ‘Choi Yeonkyung’ was a shady character because of her traumatic nature and her desire to perfect her work while keeping people at arm's length. As she overcame trauma and started to love she became closer to people and became a brighter character.

     

    What is the charm of a romance genre? I think I met Kim AJoong a much more familiar actor.

    I am grateful (to everyone) for accepting it kindly. The fact that love is a theme that everyone can relate to and it seems to be attractive to have a friendly approach to a work or character. 

     

    Do you still feel any regrets after finishing a work?

    Every work has its moments. Every work leaves a taste of regret for different reasons. But I think it makes me realize a lot and grow up. I am both sorry and grateful for all my works including <Live Up To Your Name>.

     

    You’ve been the goodwill ambassador for the Seoul International Women's Film Festival and mentioned concerns over gender issues in your previous interviews. Do you have your own beliefs and worries about living as an actress in Korea?

    Honestly there is still a great deal we don't know about social gender issues. However I think the industry’s idea about this issue is not yet ready but I have only been honest with the unfortunate standpoint of the actors. I look forward to seeing more movies through the eyes of women as an actress and as an audience.

     

    What is the difficulty of living as an actor? And what if you do not want to lose yourself?

    It is most difficult and painful to realize that people who have trusted and opened their hearts to others looked at me in a different way. I hate myself for easily trusting people and struggling against it. Whenever I do that I recall my feelings I had when I first started acting. I try not to lose innocence and sincerity in acting. Under any circumstances I would like to maintain my attitude towards acting as if I was not hurt.

     

    When is the happiest moment as an actor and when is the opposite? 

    I am happiest when the viewers or audience understands the heart of the character I draw. On the contrary it is sad and upsetting when it is not. I doubt if I am doing well and I feel ashamed of myself.

     

    Do you have thirst for work? 

    I want to meet a work that I can admit I did well. Considering that even the best and talented actors and actresses say they feel sorry each time they finish their work, it is likely that I will come to meet such a work. I want to be an actor who is always a bit more improved in a good work and who has strong trust with the public.

     

    This photoshoot was taken in San Francisco. What does Kim AJoong look like when she travel after finishing her work?

    I’m not an actor or a celebrity. I’m meeting my whole self without any responsibility or role. I calm down my scattered mind, I feel more clarified and communicate well with myself. And If you travel with someone you can also plan interesting things to make good memories with them. It is important to make a memorable experience with whom you can sympathize a lot. After a while I will go to Napa Valley with my personal staff who I’ve been working with in <Live Up To Your Name>. I want to express my gratitude and enjoy my time. I will stop by my favorite winery and try to buy some wine. When I return to Korea I would like to share a glass of wine with my loved ones and have a good time.

     

    Traveling seems to give special power to everyone. 

    The journey to see and feel something new excites me. Then I feel ready to accept new things again.

     

    It will take some time until your next work, but is there any genre or character that you particularly like?

    I try to empty my mind and just see the work. Sometimes my personal intentions and desires would let me miss a good piece of work. I’m looking forward to meeting new ones with an open mind that can accept any genre or role.
