Was SD’s uncle in Parasite? I don’t think so? Only the mother is. She was Choi WooShik’s and Park Sodam’s characters’ mom. Her husband in Parasite is Song Kang Ho.

SD's uncle was also in Parasite. [Spoiler ahead] He's the original parasite. The husband of the original ahjumma caretaker, hiding in the bunk downstairs for years. Those bulging eye are so iconic. See profile here: http://asianwiki.com/Park_Myoung-Hoon_(1975)

I was super scared of his character in Parasite so I was surprised at how he becomes the almost clueless NK officer here. High-ranking at that.

Now you can see how good the actress is.
She makes a beautiful idiot of himself.
It's hard not to like her in this role. :)

I kind of noticed it was her only when her hair was down before "upgrading" it at the salon haha. Her character does a lot of cringey things even for her own daughter but to me her over-the-top acting is on the spot for her over-the-top character.

  2. Waiting for Episode 7 like it will take a year T_T (Though it is next year technically, lol) Here we go 2020!

And reading BinJin shippers forum while secretly high-key shipping as well... just that the BTS chemistry makes me go delulu....

Anyway here’s my next episodes wish list:

    1. SJ will work with SJ body guard to keep SR safe after SR or SJ talks money. She’s the heir after all so they can get more money if they protect her, right?
    2. I really wanna see SR running in the track field but it might post some danger if her face is revealed in the media. Running with mask can work? Lol I’m kidding.
    3. Mother or father finds out about the recording from SR’s radio. But I’m more interested to see how Mother will react.
    4. More interaction between SJ and SD, their few minutes of talk in the rooftop had so much chemistry, it’s unreal. Or was I just imagining things?

      PS

Did anyone notice that SD mom and uncle are the actors in legendary director Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite? I’m thinking are they a package when it comes to projects?  I’m just happy they’re siblings here after [Spoiler ahead] they killed off each other’s characters in Parasite.

  3. Hi everyone, just dropping by to overshare. Hope you don't mind.

I'm about to finish my 4.5 years apprenticeship in the city and I wanted to save on rent. So I opted for a work from home arrangement. And two months ago i moved back to my parent's place in the countryside. Sounds familiar? Please read on. My younger bro also went home to parent's place two weeks ago. He's looking for a new apartment but can't find one yet. So yeap, it's the family living together again after so long. Then last night, bro brought home his brand spanking new girl so they can sleep together. LOL. Totally a Ji Ho moment, ain't fan fiction, my friends. Not even sure if I'm supposed to take it as funny or sad. Looks like I should pack my bags again tonight. Should I look forward to a tunnel moment? Apprenticeship ends this month, so yeap jobless, homeless, and I like snails too (you know, AB skin care).

    I'm not even kidding.

  4. The episode 2 preview had me thinking that SH and JH had an argument. Because JH said in a crying voice "This is the only place I can sleep tonight. And you kicked me out of this place, you know that?" And the clip showed her and SH facing each other.

    Episode 2 preview:

But in the actual Episode 2, we saw that JH's angry remark was directed to the assistant PD after the assault.

    Episode 2 clip:

So now I don't know what to feel about the preview for Episode 11. Is it real? or is it the mother of all preview trolls?? Haha.

  6. WAIT I had to look for the comment about SH and his dad!! but where is it now. I forgot who said it too. I wanted to quote it.

When SH said his father and himself never had a father-son relationship because it was only tenant and landlord. And his father only thought of saying MY house not OUR house, putting an island between them, I guess it really did hurt SH. He had to leave the house (for some reason) and so he was willing to get a house for himself even becoming house-poor in the process.

So this means, the times he said "OUR" house to JH weren't thoughtless words. An indirect confession? SH is not any less self-aware than JH so this means SH IS aware that he DOES like yeppeo wife, right?

  7. Read all your comments and saw some similar themes. As always, awesome analysis and explanations! Thanks everyone! AND here's some additional blabbering. Can't help it.

    ROLES

I guess writernim put on the equalist hat and showed us roles in different settings. Of course, the roles have different responsibilities but aim to give mutual benefits for both parties (and attain a goal in the end). (For example tenant and landlord, defender and striker, and if i may add gender [?] expected roles in the workplace, marriage, dating) We saw the accompanying actions expected from those roles and times the characters had to step out of these roles.  I think @allegramente's explanation said it best. (and sorry for cutting the post short)

In its heyday, Arsenal transformed the face of English football by adopting the Total Football approach, with the arrival of many dutch players. Total Football demands versatility as "no outfield player is fixed in a predetermined role; anyone can successively play as an attacker, a midfielder and a defender." (Wikipedia). Thus, Ji-Ho's speech about moving position from defending to attacking.

A very SH line of thinking that everything should be FAIR. But also a SH-eat-your-words kind of thing,  because we can't always go by the book 'cause DUH feelings. Shows us we've need just the right amount of neocortex and humanity.

    HORANG

i know it's hard to sympathize with HR but she's got some insightful lines over there. She knows full well the traditional socially accepted views and expectations on success, women, marriage, in-law life. At times she looks superficial and do reckless things. Agree with @VanillaSalt about this one. I was also surprised when HR said "I" instead of "We"

On 11/9/2017 at 2:01 PM, VanillaSalt said:

Anyone else notice how Ho Rang always says "am finally getting married!" or "I'm going to be a bride!"? Marriage is never just about yourself or only what you want,  it should involve the other part involved (woo shik) in at least some decision making.

But then at times she stands her ground (7 years, and "DON'T MY WOMB"). So yeap I'm torn between shipping HR and WS and seeing WS and HR part ways because at the moment  itlooks like it's going that way.

    SH PRETTYNESS

PDnim and writernim did well in the SH transformation. He's more pretty in JH's eyes and viewer's eyes now and helps us fully experience JH's dazzled fluffy feelings. Even though we miss the middle parted hair, the bangs are the bomb now. And dunno why LMK looks like a magazine spread wearing ajumma pants and pink gloves? Why so avant garde? Much fashion forward? Very Vogue? Haha. Should I see myself out?

    PS
GRIM Workplace situations in BTIMFL is very Misaeng-like (I think someone already mentioned this before) just that Misaeng shows that both male and females can be looked down in the workplace because of power dynamics and other unsaid workplace culture.

    PPS

I want to hear SH's point of view in the next episodes please. We're more than half way to the end yet heard only  bits and pieces of SH's inner voice.

    Thanks for reading :)

Yoon Shi Yoon Considers Prince Role In New Historical Drama

Yoon Shi Yoon is in the midst of deciding his next drama project!

According to news reports on November 9, the actor has been offered a role in TV Chosun’s historical drama, “Grand Prince” [working title]. A source from his agency clarified, “‘Grand Prince’ is one of the dramas that Yoon Shi Yoon is currently considering as his next project.”

The drama is about two princes who fall in love with the same girl. One would do anything including killing his own brother for love, and neither was willing to let her go. Yoon Shi Yoon has reportedly been offered the role of Prince Hwi, while Joo Sang Wook is in talks to play the titular male role. Jin Se Yeonhas been offered the female lead role, while Ryu Hwayoung has been confirmed to appear in the drama.

“Grand Prince” will be directed by producing directer (PD) Kim Jung Min, who worked on “Gunman in Joseon,” and is set to air in January 2018.

I don't know anything about TV Chosun and I didn't know JSY is unpopular with knets, but when I saw this article my mind went NONONONONONONNONO please don't pick this role.

Same goes for his co-worker-rapist, she didn't overthink that the guy likes her, the guy really likes her. Remember when he said to her, "Have you really not liked me?" The guy defintely likes her and just resorted his feelings to another girl since he thought JH's not reciprocationg his'. But he took the worst way to let JH know about it.

(sorry for cutting your post) but WOAH I didn't see that angle ! It might be true, yes? I thought assistant PD JH co-worker was only flirting with JH to hide the fact he's dating the actress. But he might have also actually liked JH !!! :o Because he wanted JH to write the drama, and got JH a place to stay. I was asking myself why he attempted to do something bad to JH~ it didn't occur to me that maybe he was so frustrated with JH (for friendzoning him, and refusing his "assistance" and he so blew up and WOAH~~ you're right he might have really liked her. SAD.

SH has got to be the most well-written male lead I've seen ever, probably. I love him and his flaws.

me too! I thought i like SH because of LMK but i think SH in written in a very interesting way.

@Ayame and @teep523's research about the books and SH and JH's predicament in relation to the books -- awesome!! thanks so much!

agree with @rembrandtz_5e20 about gender roles and anti tropes, i'm all for tropes with a twist :D

So I guess this scene is after the reunion that the girls went to.

When did we become embarrassed to be a different colour from others?

There's a front part to the convo that is missing in this video, so I'm not sure... but I think HR is talking about a certain ahjumma whom she was envious of?

HR: But people always excluded her when it was time to have fun.

    JH: Really? Why?

HR: Because the ahjumma wore a red coat. She didn't marry because she was busy working. JH, I just want to live a normal life like others. An ahjumma with a husband and kids. When going to reunions, we would talk about parenting and in-laws. I just want to wear a black coat now. Someone who's the same, who doesn't stand out, and we would talk and laugh together - that's my dream. Marriage to me is like a black coat that tells me you're good just like the others, and you're worthy as a woman.

JH: Ho-Rang was a girl who matched red really well.

*Flashback to when SJ and JH were waiting for HR, who showed up in a red coat. SJ would diss her for it but HR happily dismissed it, confident in her style.

JH: Even though she wore a different colour from others, she was always confident - that was Ho-Rang.

HR looks at her contacts who are married with children. She looks at her red nails and hides it.

JH: When did we start becoming embarrassed to be a different colour from others? But what was sadder, was me thinking that it wasn't bad wearing the black coat of marriage. If I were honest...

(Her friends messages - "JH, congratulations on your marriage once again! Let's meet up more now that you're an ahjumma (married women become that somehow in Korea)." "Yeah, next time to a couples meet up!" "Welcome to married life!")

JH: I liked it... that I had become someone who belonged somewhere.

I don't know why a tear or two suddenly fell from my eyes after hearing HR's thoughts about not wanting to stand out and be just like everyone else, and JH saying it's the first time she belonged somewhere :bawling:  At first I thought HR is the least introspective but re-watching episode 1 she's pretty aware how it is to be a woman in society, and mindful of her own (sometimes crazy) actions.

JH: Thank you. Thank you for running to me. Thank you for walking down the hill with me. And thank you for saying "our house"

SH: Were you very sad? Because of the line I had drawn? When I said that we should try as much as possible to not act as husband and wife in front of others. And when I said to not use the word "ours". Were you very upset?

    JH: Yes

SH: I don't want to be an obstacle to you. Unlike others, our marriage exists in name. Although it's a contract that currently provides you with a room and me with monthly rent income, once the contract comes to an end, it;s possible that you will be affected much more than I will be. Because you're a lady, and younger than I am, so, society might judge you more harshly.

So I thought that it was right for you be minimally involved with me, and for the things we share to be kept to a minimum.

JH: So you have been thinking of this? What happens after the end of our marriage, and affecting me negatively?

SH: Well rather than having thought of it constantly, thoughts of these issues came to mind, after the wedding.

    JH: Why?

SH: Because I made a promise. Because I made a promise to your mom that I wouldn't be an obstacle to you. I want to keep that promise, and I want to continue keeping it moving forward.

    SH: He..llo?

    JH: It;s me

    SH: I know

JH: When I graduated and got a job as an assistant writer, I earned 80,000 KRW a month. Then, my dad came down from Namhae to give me a scolding and told me to go back to sell spinach instead. because selling spinach would earn more than that. Why did I do something that others wouldn't understand and how did I start it... it was because I didn't think about it at all. Whether I wanted to be a good writer.. or if I wanted to be famous, or whether I wanted to be successful. I just thought it was fun and then I just started... just because it was fun to write everyday. I don;t think about having my dreams fulfilled through writing.. or being successful because of it. And so, I don;t think of things like what would happen 2 years later. If i thought all the way till then, I think I wouldn;t be able to go through with this marriage. To me, it's just because I need this room at this moment, and it;d be great if the house is safe, and I don;t want to be separated from Cat, and because the landlord was someone trustworthy. That;s why I did it. Just because I really liked living here. That's why, what happens after the marriage is not important to me, and I don't think of it too. That's why from now on, things like drawing a line purposely... please don't do it.

    SH: yes

JH: don;t lock the room door too

    SH: Ok

JH: So, have a good night.

SH: I have something to say too. Please don;t call me Landlord, because you might be misunderstood. In front of others, please call me Husband. Because there might be other dangerous situations in the future too.. just so that you won;t be misunderstood on your own. Because you;ll be living with me in this house for the next 2 years.

JHxSH communicating are my favourite moments in this drama

hello :) thanks for the dialog recap! It's also my fave conversation in EP 9. I like SH more after this conversation. Those words! He knows society can judge JH because she is young and a woman OMG Se Hee ssi!

I  LOVE how honest their interactions are when they want to be.

JH: Thank you... for coming to me, for coming down together, and saying "Our home".

SH: Were you very disappointed when I drew the line? When I said that we shouldn't act as a married couple, and when I said there's no "us", were you very upset?

    JH: Yes.

SH: I don't want to stand in JH-ssi's way. Because our marriage has a predetermined end unlike others. Although we made a contract with you having a space to live and me receiving rent, the harm to you after our marriage ends may be more than mine. You're a woman, and you're younger than me, which means society may judge you harsher than they do me. So I thought it would be good to avoid any relations to me, and any shared affairs.

JH: You were thinking of all these? What would happen after we end our marriage, and the harm to me?

SH: It's not that I've constantly been thinking of it, but I had this thought after our marriage. Because I promised your mother that I would not stand in your way. I want to keep my promise, even in the future (I think he means even if they aren't married anymore).

I like this conversation a lot. Thanks for the dialog recap! :)  Seems like SH was aware of it all this time? And kept it to himself? but he's also not hesitant to be totally honest with JH and to confirm her feelings/thoughts. I really like how SH is sensitive to other people's feelings, it's not just JH but also SG, his 18-year bff :)
