  1. Jo In Sung displays extraordinary level of affection for his fans with a special event ahead of his movie premiere

Jo In Sung displayed an extraordinary level of affection for his fans, leaving them deeply moved and appreciative.

According to his agency IOK Company, on July 31, Jo In Sung went above and beyond by renting out an entire theater during the first weekend of his latest movie 'Smugglers' release.

The lucky attendees were none other than the members of his official fan club, known as 'InSungKunJa.' What made the occasion even more special was the surprise stage greeting by Jo In Sung and the rest of the cast, creating an unforgettable experience for the fans.

During the event, Jo In Sung humbly expressed his joy in reconnecting with his fans in such a heartwarming setting. He shared, "It's been a while since I've seen your faces in such a setting. 'Smugglers' is a movie that was filmed two years ago and it's a movie that I've been waiting to show. You will be able to see me restlessly in the second half of this year with the films 'Smugglers' and 'Moving,' and the show 'Unexpected Business.' I think it's the first time in 25 years that I've been this active."

The actor's genuine appreciation extended not only to his fans but also to his fellow actors and the film's staff. Initially intending to greet the fans alone, he was warmly persuaded by the senior and junior actors to join him, leading to a touching moment at the theater. He shared, "Originally, I was planning to come alone today and greet you but my senior and junior actors said they wanted to come with me to greet you all. I want to thank them as well."

This act of renting out a theater at his own expense and inviting fans has become a trademark of Jo In Sung whenever he releases a new movie.

The film industry insiders have taken notice of this exceptional gesture, stating that it is rare for an actor to go to such lengths to show appreciation to their fans consistently. The fact that Jo In Sung takes the time to greet his fans personally further adds to the uniqueness of his relationship with them.

One film industry insider shared, "It's customary to only invite a few fans during film releases and invite certain fans through lottery events. But it is rare for an actor to rent a whole theater using his personal funds to invite many of his fans. He didn't do this just once or twice, he does this with every film release he has and it's amazing."

The insider added, "Indeed, Jo In-sung's love for his fans goes beyond mere words; it is evident in his actions and dedication to connecting with them. He has proven time and again that he values the unwavering support he has received since the beginning of his career until now, which has undoubtedly strengthened the bond between him and his loyal fan base."

On a related note, 'Smugglers' the maritime crime action drama released on July 26, centers around people making a living by retrieving daily necessities thrown into the sea, only to find themselves embroiled in a life-changing venture. The movie's captivating plot and Jo In Sung's exceptional performance have undoubtedly left audiences with an unforgettable cinematic experience.

'Moving' aims to put the super back in Korean superhero movies

In a country where superhero movies have failed to enter the spotlight, save those in the the "Avengers" universe, upcoming Disney+ original series “Moving” dares to tell a “Korean-style superhero story" and prove that Korean superpowers are indeed super.

“Moving” is based on the webtoon of the same name by Kang Full, considered of the earliest and most successful webtoonists in Korea who has had a number of hits including “Love Story” (2003), “Apartment” (2004), “Timing” (2005) and “Neighbor” (2008). Kang also directly participated in the adaptation of his webtoon by writing the script for “Moving.”

“I wanted to tell a Korean-style superhero story,” Kang said at a press conference at CGV Yongsan in central Seoul on Thursday. “What I mean by that is I wanted to give a historical twist to the typical superhero setting. I asked myself, if there are superheroes in Korea, what would they fight for and what would move them? And the answer came from the history of Korea — our experience of being split into two countries, our emphasis on family. So a Korean-style superhero story would focus on these aspects.”

“Moving” surrounds a group of people who have special abilities or superpowers, and tells a story spanning two generations of characters who fight to protect their loved ones. The series drew attention when it was announced for its reported budget of 50 billion won ($39.5 million) and its all-star cast, including Han Hyo-joo, Zo In-sung, Ryu Seung-ryong, Ryoo Seung-bum, Cha Tae-hyun and more.

A lot was changed from the original webtoon’s story, and extra characters and more background information was added to the adaptation of “Moving,” according to Kang.

“Two entirely new characters were added in the adaptation, and I wanted to give fans of the original webtoon a kind of present — so I added background stories to the original,” Kang said. “I hope that these new characters and extra stories offer viewers an added layer that they can enjoy.”

The creators of “Moving,” including Kang, director Park In-jee and other producers, spent years preparing for the adaptation — three years to be exact, according to Park. Parts of those preparations were revising the script numerous times, pondering over how to differentiate a “Korean-style superhero story” from typical Hollywood superhero films, and applying world-class visual effects to the screen.

“We really put a lot of thought into differentiating it from Hollywood superhero films,” Park said during the press conference. “Hollywood superheroes often fight for the greater good or some grand meaning, but our superheroes simply fight for their loved ones.”

As for the visual effects, according to visual effects supervisor Lee Sung-kyu, “Most films have about 2,000 cuts of visual effects, while ‘Moving’ has 7,540. This threefold jump in visual effects will make watching ‘Moving’ a never-seen-before experience for viewers.”

“A lot of readers and viewers of my work have commended me for having a humanism and world view in my stories, but, really, what I look for first and foremost is entertainment,” Kang said. “I think only of how to entertain people and how to make people have the most fun while reading or watching my work. I hope ‘Moving’ — with our Korean-style superhero story — will entertain a lot of people.”

“Moving” is set to premiere seven episodes out of a total of 20 on Aug. 9.

Disney+ sci-fi action series 'Moving' expands original webtoon's universe

The upcoming Disney+ sci-fi action series "Moving" features "Korean-style heroes" who are seemingly ordinary people but fight for their loved ones with hidden superpowers, its screenwriter said Thursday.

    spacer.png

Based on the eponymous hit webtoon by Kang Full, the 20-episode series tells the story of a group of superpowered individuals who hide their true abilities from the world in order to protect their families from danger.

It features a star-studded cast, including Zo In-sung, Han Hyo-joo, Ryu Seung-ryong, Ryu Seung-bum and Cha Tae-hyun, among others.

Kang, the creator of original webtoon "Moving," said the drama series used a multi-layered story structure that spans over 30 years and added new characters to expand its cinematic universe.

"Although the series is based on my original webtoon, I wanted to tell a different story and ended up writing a 20-episode series, " Kang said during Creators Talk, a promotional press event. "Watching two episodes would be like watching a two-hour movie."

Kang said he put the characters' narratives into the historical context of South Korea, which still remains divided following the 1950-53 Korean war.

"What is a Korean-style hero? I wanted to focus on circumstances and causes that would compel a hero to fight," Kang said. "In this drama, each character fights for their loved ones, whether that's family, a friend, a lover or a colleague, not for the moral cause of saving the world."

The director, Park In-jae, behind the second season of the Netflix zombie thriller "Kingdom" (2020), and films "The Mayor" (2017) and "Moby RickRoll'D" (2011), said "Moving" encompasses a wide variety of genres, including family drama, action, sci-fi and romance.

"We inserted action sequences into each episode to captivate viewers," Park said. "It also has a family story, a high teen story and a love story through 20 episodes."

Lee Sung-gyu, the chief visual effects (VFX) supervisor, said dynamic images of people flying and action sequences are the outcome of two years of global collaboration.

"About 60 studios from nine countries participated in the VFX production. We particularly focused on creating realistic visuals so as not to distract people's attention from the story," Lee said.

The first seven episodes will be released on Aug. 9, with two episodes arriving each week for five weeks.

'Moving' Jo In-sung, a flying psychic.. Director "I wanted it to be really cool"

Jo In-sung's stills from 'Moving' were released for the first time.

The Disney+ original series 'Moving' tells the story of children who live in the present while hiding their superpowers and parents who have lived in the past while hiding painful secrets.

Jo In-sung plays a psychic with the ability to fly freely in the sky. His role as 'Kim Doo-sik' is a person called a legend among black agents, as he has all of the speed that cannot be followed by the eye, the ability to fly freely in the sky, and shooting skills that boast 100 shots while flying.

The appearance of performing various missions as the most elite agent in the released still stimulates curiosity about the character 'Kim Doo-shik'. While 'Kim Doo-sik's nimble action, which coolly carries out his duties under any circumstances, raises expectations, the sight of him confronting someone while maintaining an expressionless expression on his face raises curiosity about what happened to him.

Jo In-sung, who said, "Some days I have never acted on the floor," said that he made constant efforts, such as studying his posture, to express the flying 'Kim Doo-sik' naturally and as if he were a real person. Martial arts director Ryu Seong-cheol praised him, saying, “It is actually really difficult to move and use the body freely while floating in the air with wires on, but Jo In-sung gave me nine more when I asked for one.”

Also, “‘Doo-sik’ is 99% perfect, but he is a person who shows a weak 1% in front of the person he loves. As director Park In-je said, “I talked a lot with Jo In-sung to express this,” Jo In-sung completely immersed himself in the character himself and completed his own ‘Kim Doo-shik’.

"Moving" will be released on Disney+ on August 9th at the same time around the world, followed by two episodes every week.

Based on the webtoon of the same name by Kang Full, “Moving” is a new superhero action drama about teenagers with hidden superhuman powers and their parents who, unbeknownst to them, harbor a painful secret from their past. They eventually team up to battle powerful dark forces that threaten multiple generations across different eras.

Jo In Sung plays Kim Doo Shik, a veteran agent with the ability to fly, while Han Hyo Joo stars as Lee Mi Hyun, a hero with superhuman senses. Ryu Seung Ryong plays the role of Jang Joo Won, who has regenerative powers that allow him to recover quickly from injuries.
