I'll advice you, most korean dramas that are romantic comedy takes a dark turn 90% of the time. Though, I'd have to say, it's not always this heavy.
I do hope that you'll continue to watch, as I can guarantee the more pain you experienced from this drama means the more satisfying the sweet revenge. While we can never return the father, we can watch and root for the hero as he eliminates the villains one by one.
I trust that the writer will not give us an open end, as that was one of the biggest complaints about her previous drama, MLFAS. I doubt she would want to create an extended epilogue to explain an ending once more. I am certain you live and you learn, correct? She probably learned.
Perhaps it's true that Koreans do enjoy family dramas, but I can argue that LOTBS has thrown many curve balls at us in the past few episodes, increasing the thrill and therefore, intriguing viewers to tune in. It's not simply family drama alone that has helped the ratings, it's the revelation of ND's true nature, HJJ inching closer and closer to MDG and KJY, family reunions, revelations of people's past life including SC recalling her memories, everything altogether as a package caused the increase in ratings. I can see why the ratings increased and I am most certainly happy for them.
Haha! (*Bittersweet laughter*!) - THANKS VERY MUCH for your advice! I guess I have to be an emotional sadomasochist to continue watching and just ride along with the pain!! And thanks very much for your comforting words!! I will have faith in Writer Nim - that hopefully she has learnt her lesson from MLFAS! I think I should watch that next!! Am trying to pick up the courage to watch the whole of Scarlet Heart Ryeo because LJG's acting is just fantastic!!

Sigh ... I don't know whether I should carry on watching this drama, my first KDrama - I thought I was watching a Romantic Comedy ... Sigh ... I am so depressed that I got reeled in like a stupid fish, and I fell for it hook, line and sinker ...
I have a very bad feeling that it will have an open ending ... because HJJ gave SC SHOES for her birthday... bad omen - I think SC will erase all his memories again to save HJJ ...
If I continue watching, I will be running the risk of destroying my iPad (like most of my friends did when they watched Scarlet Heart Ryeo - I still haven't picked up the courage to watch that ...)
Maybe I will continue after everything is over ... then again if this sort of family melodrama translates into high ratings, I am very happy for LMH & JJH - they're totally DAEBAK actors! Plus the other actors - Lee Chi Hoon, Song Il Do & the little girl who played Yoona especially! DAEBAK!

The fact that Nam Do was also an orphan, maybe Nam Do and Kang Soohee are in same team.
Hmmm - I don't think SC will get 'trapped' in an aquarium like that so easily - unless she was drugged or HER memories get erased?? She may need to go back to the ocean ... I don't have a good feeling about the ending (especially after reading the translation about HJJ telling her he will still love her, even if he's not by her side ...) - maybe, just Maybe ... they would die and be reincarnated again ... and they meet again ...

Ok, LOTS of tears ... sigh ... but now I so need SC to KICK richard simmons and erase ND's memories COMPLETELY! Sigh ... I am SO worried ... maybe ND will deal with her by getting to her legs ... maybe ND is working in cahoots with CH to kidnap SC & blackmail HJJ ...

I am 99.99% certain the writer will reveal their motives in the remaining episodes. It's a huge part of the plot so I assume she has thought it through. Where's the fun in it if she just hands it all to us in one go. I'm loving the pacing and revelation here. I realize that while watching this show, because I have to wait for each episode to air and there's more time to think about it, I keep asking questions and doubting. In the end, the writer did not fail me. That's why, I've decided to leave faith in the hands of the writer. I trust in her to fill in any missing pieces.
Also, I actually love that HJJ lied to SC. To me, it reveals his determination to write their ending differently this time. I also appreciate that SC learned the truth by herself and that the truth isn't simply told to her. Rather, she remembers it and feels the depth of her past. Regaining her memories this way makes a stronger impact, as she realizes the full truth that she is SH and he is KDR, and that they ended tragically. It's one thing to hear about it but it's heartfelt on another level to remember it and feel it yourself.
Yes, but SC may leave him ... JJH was filming underwater scenes on 31 Dec 2016, (according to LMH) that was why she couldn't attend the SBS Drama Awards ... I wonder whether Writer Nim will pull that on us ... let SC be separated from HJJ & Go back to the sea ...

Aaaargh!! I am so anxious after watching the trailer for Episode 17!!! I think SC is going to leave HJJ ... there were rumours swilling about Song Hye Kyo joining LOTBS as an evil mermaid and JJH couldn't attend the SBS Drama Awards on 31 Dec 2916 because according to LMH, she was still shooting UNDERWATER scenes ... which could mean SC has to go back to the sea and potentially NO Happy Ending for our beloved OTP ... Sigh ... PLEASE give us a Happy Ending, Writer Nim ...
