kekeke... it feels really unnatural that I am waiting for the shoe to drop. LOL. I have gotten used to all the pesky characters  having more prominence that it feels like this drama is actually about them. frankly, the leads are more like side characters in this drama that I still can't believe they are getting a romance. I am waiting for them to break up again because they have only broken up once. since it is a daily drama, one break up is insufficient at times right?

and weirdly enough I miss juri. I can't believe she just disappeared. didn't the guy she went with to the US look like a thief? what happened on that front? did the writer just forget about juri completely?

I can't help but think that next week will be hell for the leads. This week has just been too good for them lol. Waiting for break up #2 too.

HJ should really have a talk with her daughter soon!

It’s just a play on the sound of his name because they’re similar. They added the word “soup” behind his name. You can try listening to it when they call his name or nicknameThank you! Will pay some more attention when they call his name.

Thank you @ktcjdrama! Will pay attention when they call his nickname again

I just read that there will be an additional 4 episodes. Argh! HoPe to watch our OTP in their new family life, instead of more drama with the supporting cast. Having said that, I do look forward to Jongwon's revenge on Junho.

With all that's haPpening around the world, with lImited filming locations and crew, scripts getting edited to accommodate etc, I'm surprised that SBs has gone ahead with the extension.

  3. Enjoyed reading everyone's posts.:)

I just watched 104 with English subs. And I must say that my mind must've been in the gutter when I commented on it's preview

About DG's nickname 'Cod fish soup'. Can anyone recall how the name came about? Is there a backstory or event involving that specific dish? HJ, her mom and even assistant addressed DG that way when he was working at the restaurant.

Just a random thought on DG's unproduced script which features a Yuran-esque character. I think he can try to rework it as a television movie instead, or even an indie movie. A thriller/ psychological tale, a little like Lee Joon's Rough Play, although not as dark perhaps.

  4. I've just watched 103 with Chinese Mandarin subs. Good episode!

Glad that HJ and DG's make up talk isn't the dramatic sort. No yelling or major crying involved.

For those of us who want more screen time for the OTP, episode 104 looks set to be one to look forward to.

Now, I may be misinterpreting DG's line in the preview. But he seems to be asking if HJ is sure she wants to barge in/come inside like that. Are they taking their relationship to the next level?

  5. Hello everyone. I'm new to this thread. :)

At the moment, I'm not pulling my hair out in frustration with this drama. Since neither HJ nor DG is a noble idiot. Well... as of episode 102 anyway. Their breakup isn't that difficult to watch, compared to other daily dramas. I like that HJ has been pretty honest with DG regarding their situation. She also told DG that the break up isn't to push him back to YR, and she also pointed out getting back together when GJ supports their relationship. I don't quite understand though, why DG said he has to confirm HJ'S feelings? In episode 101 i believe? Having doubts after witnessing the "warm" family gathering with JS, HJ and Yuri?

Btw, I too fast forward all the CJ and JJ parts lol.

    I loved episode 103!

      Reveal hidden contents

JH leaves the office and decides to drive alone. His driver promptly calls JW and lets her know and JW makes a comment prolly realizing who he is going to see.

I enjoyed JH and Yran meeting only for her to possibly realize he is only using her once again and does not plan on anything long lasting. At least she had the sense to leave his using and selfish behind! But that does not negate that she left her five year old son alone in the flat in a strange neighborhood.

GJ decided to leave the flat and he was smart enough to ask someone to borrow their phone to call his father first but DG had turned off his phone at the office. He then tried HJ but she did not recognize the number so she did not answer as she was about to shoot her first episode of her cooking show. He walks away dejected and is almost hit by a car and it starts raining on him. He takes refuge under the jungle gym and the play park and cries out for his dad. The rain stops and we see HJ frantically calling out for him. It seems the guy he borrowed the phone from was not assured of a kid alone and told her about GJ being out alone.  GJ sees HJ calling for him and calls out to her and she runs over to hug him asking if he is ok. She puts her jacket on him since he was wet and having not even taken the time to change from her chef outfit. (This is a true mother and caring person.) He cries out to her and faints in her arms. We hear sirens in the background and we see DG get the call from the hospital when he turns his phone on and he rushes out of the staff dinner with CJ and the crew at the chicken place Jbong use to work at.

DG gets to the hospital to see GJ in the hospital bed. GJ calls out to him and tells him he is sorry and he came out from his mothers I think. DG is frantic holding him crying and thankful he is ok. He asked GJ how he came to be there and he says that HJ came to get him or found him and brought him there. He calls out to HJ who is standing at the door and DG turns his head to see her.

Yran has made it back home and sits down upset over JH and her first thought was never on the fact that he son was not there. Its only after she takes a moment she realizes the kid is gone and she looks at her phone to see a nasty message from DG to her. (I believe its about her not having access to the kid again and I hope about the restraining order.) I do not know if she finally gets it but she seems to say something to herself.

DG and HJ sit outside and he says thank you to her and he is emotional and they talk. HJ gets up to go but he grabs her hands and explains something to her or tells her once again that he still cares about her they seem to have made up again.

JH has made it back home and has his flash back of being with Yran. He is such a user! He is upset that Yran turned him down on the sex and walked on him. This guy really needs a big lesson!

DG is back in the hospital room with GJ and they are talking.

When HJ is about to go to bed she is all giddy again because she and DG have made up. Her mom comes in and talks to her and we see HJ having her flash back at being at the studio and saying something Manager Oh then  she calls back the last number that called and the guy tells her about GJ which prompts her to say sorry and run out on Manager Oh to look for GJ. She says something to manager OH about having to go find GJ and runs off. HJ and her mom continue to talk and HJ is all smiles and her mom is happy too.

Skip.. the Lee's have a moment so we will ignore them.

Next day HJ is at her shop and DG comes in to write like he used to. Manager oh comes in tipsy talking about how HJ ran off yesterday to go after GJ and DG looks at them. She continues on talking about how GJ said  GJ , GJ over and over and left before the filming. (I like this lady.. lol) she goes on and on and HJ apologizes and then the woman tells her that she can film the episode today and HJ is shocked. The ending is of HJ about to film the episode looking cute doing her karate moves with a laddel and spatula.  end.. episode.

Preview We see HJ in the dressing room having a bout of nervousness and Manger Oh says something to her giving her a pep talk or assuring her they liked the first filming. shows DG waiting for her and HJ coming out looking sad and he asks if it did not go well and she smiles and says it did. They go out to a karaoke bar and HJ is jumping around singing as DG watches her. They are out walking and they hug and HJ says something and then DG pulls her in and goes to kiss her confirming his feelings for her by saying he loves her.. .

There is the quick recap of Episode 103

Thank you for the recap! I expected DG and HJ to get back together only in next week's episodes. So the break up only lasted about 3 episodes. lol whew!

They never showed the scene in the episode itself. The preview seemed to be hinting that DY initially refuses while EH is just ready for her. However, in the episode itself, when EH asks if he can spend the night, DY initially doesn't respond, but then as EH gets off the bed and starts to leave, DY casually remarks that he should change into his night clothes and come back. EH decides he doesn't need any special night clothes to sleep in, and so stays to sleep with DY, though we're really not shown much more than that. So, I think the bit in the preview where EH hits the wall and DY is being skittish, and then EH tells DY he's always ready for her was probably cut out of the final version of the episode.

There have been other places in this drama where a scene or a line is in the preview, but it's not actually in the episode. There was even a discussion about that on this thread.

Thank you for this. I thought I missed the scene lol.

To everyone, I've enjoyed reading all your posts - views, translations, personal anecdotes etc. Appreciate the effort you put into composing your posts. I sure have learned so much from the drama and from so many of you.

Overall, I enjoyed watching this drama. There are some parts and elements which I disliked, but the show also presented many themes and sub-stories which I loved and could relate to. So way more many likes than dislikes from me.

Looking forward to LJS's new works in 2 year's time. I do hope he takes on projects from OCN or JTBC, or a drama with minimal focus on romance. Something like OCN's Save Me will be awesome I think. LJS will definitely continue to participate as the romantic lead in major broadcasting stations' dramas; afterall, that's what most people like to watch and sponsors love to dress him up. But it will be good for him to break away from the stereotype roles more often.

See you guys around! The moon is indeed beautiful!

    Episode 13 preview

EH: She had studied more diligently than anyone, she’s talented, and she works more passionately than anyone!
    DY: Give me an idea.
EH: You want me to give you this valuable thing for free?
(DY gives EH a peck on the cheek)
    EH: That’s a little insufficient.
DY: Just give me some ideas.
EH: Noona, could I sleep here…?
DY: Why is he asking something like that?
EH: Is that you, noona?! I am ready at any time!
SJ: I don’t need your apology. Just don’t appear in front of me anymore.
SJ: Please, let’s just be cool, and only talk about work!
DY: You’re here. Next to me. I only need you.

Time really flies fast! I read about this drama late Oct last year, and we're now done with the finale..

I've quoted @stroppyse 's translation of Episode 13 preview here. Does anyone remember watching the highlighted? From the preview, it looked like EH had invited DY over to his room and shy DY was pacing in the hallway. Perhaps a deleted scene?

EUnho is a walking angel, instead of asking her to reconsider,he just comfort her with hug and taking days off to accompany her at home. That domestic bliss... make me....CRINGE :sweatingbullets:

Lol! Those lovey-dovey scenes made me cringe too. That was some major outpour of affection!

I've been rooting for CEH and KDY's happily-ever-after from ep 1. But somehow I'm not feeling their chemistry as a couple now that they are together. How do I put this... a lack of a certain presence together? (I am so ready to dodge some bullets haha) Don't get me wrong, I love them. Perhaps my expectations were high to begin with. I am thinking that their relationship transition could've been written better; with a lesser push from CEH, make KDY a little less dense to allow her to realise her own feelings.

Now, where can I find my own CEH, who will try to force his friend to hire me

Have a great week ahead everyone!

  9. @Sianna Luke Thank you for sharing. I am also a jobseeker, with 11 years of working experience and a master's. My job search for the past 3 months has been tough, especially since I am trying to switch industries. I have also thought about not listing my post-grad qualification for entry-level roles. But decided against that and instead tried not to highlight it and downplayed my experience. Still experimenting with this strategy in my applications. I am also ready to start anew with a junior role, but hiring managers are usually skeptical, wondering why I would leave my previous industry and settle for a much lower pay elsewhere.

There are efforts from governments and industries to encourage companies to hire mums and seniors returning to the workforce. Sounds good on paper, but in reality, not many companies have jumped onboard.

@Fenxia Tan I agree with you about integrity being a recurring theme. Ms Go is the stick-to-the-rules, no exceptions type. I noticed a hint of guilt in her expression and some empathy. Although Ms Go understood KDY's struggle and reasons, she couldn't simply turn a blind eye and had to report or do something about it. I hope some of you are right, in that she intends to get KDY to re-apply for regular employment.

I too wonder why OJY hadn't been fired over the misprint of thousands of books..

  10. Hi Chingus, I'd like to share my favourite moments/scenes in the drama. I thought of doing a Top 5 or 10, but scrapped the idea because...why put a number or limit on it. Here goes

    • CEH and KDY's telephone conversation about subpar housekeeper and red bra.

For me, this simple phone call really set the tone of their friendship.

    • CEH and KDY's coffee talk, after Gyeoroo interview
    • KDY pouring whiskey out the window.

I love the impish, mischievous look on her face!

    • CEH and KDY's lift ride at office building the following morning.
    • When KDY realised that CEH had repurposed his gym room.
    • JSJ talking to his green onion plant
    • Drunk CEH into a cab and went to KDY's old home out of habit. The flashbacks of his similar trips
    • KDY interrogating CEH about his whereabouts the previous night.

I screamed in delight at his reply.

    • KDY's voice-over about accepting her employment situation at Gyeoroo.

KDY realised that she was not the only one who gave her all during her years as a housewife. It dawned on her that other people had been toiling and working hard as well. She then accepted that she had to work her way up the corporate ladder again.

    • CEH and KDY's udon (if my memory serves me well) dinner.

Not a major, pivotal scene. However, I like how it showed the little things that KDY missed while out of the workforce. Dinner after a full day of work and people addressing her by name.

    • KDY feeling up CEH's pecs
    • KDY asking if CEH likes her

Love the slight quiver in KDY's voice.

    • CEH's rejection letter to SHR

A sad yet sweet scene. CEH is too nice. He really treasures SHR as a junior, friend, colleague. Love that he did not just leave SHR at JSJ's place when she got drunk.

    • SHR's rant to parents about left-over dumplings

This is the only scene so far which got me teary-eyed. SHR had likened her receiving of left-over dumplings to being left out for good things. Her parents went on to promise fresh ones for her from then on.

    • CEH's counseling session with newbie OJY

If only all bosses could articulate like CEH. The session proved effective as OJY decided to roll up her sleeves and be serious about her job. She went on to craft a sincere, albeit non-businesslike, apology letter to her colleagues and bosses; and even managed to get SHR to smile a little at her proclamation to work hard.

Oops, crap I got carried away. This post is getting too long. My apologies! I'll just stop here.

But actually, my real disappointment started when she lied to her ex-fiance telling him that she was married. Here, her lie revealed that her pride mattered the most.

Thank you for pointing this out. Ms. Ko sure has a penchant for keeping up with appearances. This is also evident in a friends gathering, where she proudly (and coldly) offered to foot the bill and bragged about her accolades and achievements. I did not see a problem with this scene initially, as there is nothing wrong with her singlehood.

She uses the SNS in order to give a false impression of herself... At some point, her true personality should be revealed. She is definitely messy and lacks imagination, although she wants to leave the opposite impression that she is organized and very creative.

A good glimpse into our society and consumption of social media. Most people would post only the pretty, glamorous sides of their lives, but we do not see what really goes on under the facade. Someone may be sipping fine wine in a posh, swanky high-rise apartment with floor-to ceiling windows; which sounds like the dream life but people do not see the lonely soul in an incredibly bare apartment.

If everyone just does what he/she is supposed to do, then there is no team work, no help. Besides this undermines the motivation. Their commitment will decrease, people will stop to put any effort.

The insights into the working world - one of the reasons I continue to watch this drama.

I'd like to think there is some good in Ms Go's character, besides commitment to her work. After all, she has been with Gyeoroo for 10 years and even helped her colleagues with removing leaflets from books on a weekend, while donning hair salon gear.

CEO Kim mentioned something about wearing trenchcoats for decision-making like the earlier days. Maybe we will see again the close-knit team work which held the founding members together.

Need some clarification about CEH's character description in the drama synopsis. It is stated that he is Gyeoroo's youngest-ever chief editor. I've been puzzled by that for quite a while. Isn't he the only chief editor the company has ever had? Scouted while still in college.

I can feel my interest waning a little. So, hoping for better episodes in the coming weekend.

I am here not to defend for Jong Suk but just to friendly share my opinion.

I agreed that his acting style is kinda the same until While You Are Sleeping, but looking back, most of his dramas are melo *plus* written by the same writer. She knew his style of acting so personally she did him tailor-made. And regarding to his speech patterns & voice tone, he has improved here and there.. I hope that you could spend a bit of your time on Hymn Of Death, so may be you could see him a bit different. It is the only one (too bad, it's short) drama that I can see him in a new light, it's the only one drama I admit that his acting skill has reached another step, after Dr Stranger (and Hot Young Blood movie). It took me almost 4 years to witness his improvement so I really love it (I dont mean that his acting was the same in 4 year long. Except W he performed poorly,  he did improve a bit here and there, detailed one on voice of tone, micro expression etc but those cahnges are unnoticeable easily)

And to tell you the truth, what you see LJS here as LJS vs CEH, is true. Mature, calm, warm CEH is CEH and cute, dorky, adorable CEH is really LJS - that's how he is in real life (same with Jung Jae Chan in While You Are Sleeping) However, mature, thoughtful, considering and self-low esteem LJS, those sides of him are not able to see unless you read his interview and analyze his action sequence.

It's totally ok if you and other drama-lovers dont see him the way as I do, because I have always truely hoped he could experience much more and build up his skills much wider and stronger. He needs to change his image, whether sharper, uglier etc in order to reach further remarkable milestone, especially after discharge.

I am not a huge fangirl, but I have watched many of LJS's works and a couple of them are in my all-time favourites list.

I fully agree with your recommendation of Hymn of Death. Frankly, I hadn't heard of it until I stumbled across the thumbnail on Netflix. This short drama far-exceeded my expectations - in terms of cinematography (beautiful parks/garden), soundtrack, screenplay and of course acting delivery. It is a sad, tragic story, no doubt. However, I guess we can all appreciate the drama for what it is trying to convey.

The 2 leads, LJS and Shin Hye Sun, did very well in their portrayal of their characters. Known for utilizing cute and/or suave looks, it was a very pleasant surprise for me then, to have found none of this in the sombre drama.

May I suggest giving VIP a try as well? I think it is safe to say that it will not be a favourite movie, nor one which you will rewatch in its entirety (gruesome scenes again?! no!). But it does show LJS's versatility as an actor

Since we mentioned Hymn of Death here, does anyone know if there are English-translated books of Kim U-jin's works? I did a Google search but found nothing much. Surely there is more interest in writings now?

  14. Hi everyone, I have not visited Soompi for quite some time. Nice to some familiar names here =)

The first half of the series has hooked me and I hope I do not lose interest in the course of the latter half.

I think what has drawn me so far is the 2 leading characters and how they are navigating the working world.

Like EH, I was employed at my first company for 10 years. I also aspire to have a part-time lecturing job - which EH does have on the show. However, life happened and I decided not to be stuck in my dead-end job. I took a leap of faith and recently resigned without another job lined up (3 months notice btw). And suddenly, I found my situation to be similar to that of DY's - in terms of the struggles of job-seeking. I am still sending out CVs and telling myself 'fighting! you can do it!'

I feel like EH will not be giving a straight 'I like you' answer to DY tonight. Most likely, he will skirt around the idea of fancying DY and see her reactions, test waters. Think this will be more aligned with his thoughts, considering his fear of losing a friend, should he confess before verifying that a serious relationship is possible.

    Looking forward to tonight's episode!
