  1. Hello again all you eclipses.  I just wanted to drop by and say I have tried reading everyone's posts ( well as many as I could given the way you guys are writing and writing.  Whew! Who can keep up? ) BUT those I've had the fortune to read are fantastic. Great analysis and commentary.  I know everyone is having a great time and it so hypes this wonderful drama. Great Job everyone!!! Emoticon 0123 PartyEmoticon 0137 Clapping

I am so glad to see that the changes to the tone of this epic have been noticed. It has developed from light and cute to intense and nail biting so well. I'm especially pleased that IU is being appreciated. The woman has worked hard to carry the majority of this drama. She deserves credit for that. Emoticon 0137 Clapping

Naturally, I would have loved to have seen more of Joon in this but at the same time he certainly has put his mark on this production. Despite having so little screen time so far, what he has done is make every second he is on the screen HOT AND AMAZING. He deserves the biggest and best award and he had better get it or there is going to be such an uproar.  I wouldn't want to see the comments if he is ignored. Kdrama awards will never be respected again if that happens. Smg

Finally, poor HS.  I mean I can totally understand her hesitation about dumping poor Wook. I mean she loves him and even though he has shown himself to be a major butthead  She, (like most women),  is gonna give her love the benefit of the doubt.....over and over.... How many times have we and our friends done the same thing?   Emoticon 0179 Headbang     Be honest... you know it has happened IRL.    But the smack down is coming...we know it is. The light bulb is going to come on and she will break that bracelet and So will be there.  I suspect it is going to take a major event adding to what has already happened for her to finally wake up. I won't even speculate on what that might be... Blush

Again thanks for everyone's comments and insight. Love ya ALL!!  Emoticon 0152 Heart

PS.  It looks like Joon's Instagram will hit the 1 million mark in the next day or two. Be ready to partae!!! Party

I found the link for those who hadn't seen it.

The link was in this thread for Never said Goodbye. Unfortunately it seems now to have been removed.

As to surgery... He had veneers done on his teeth and he had his ears docked. (where they take some of the cartilage from the ear cup to pull the ear closer to the skull) That is the only corrective stuff he has had done.

  3. Of course he is dating and going out with girls. He just does it privately so people are not aware he is dating. He does it the way we all did it before we were allowed to date; meeting at friends parties, going to her apartment or arriving separately at more public places. Plus they can date more easily outside of Seoul using rented cars with dark tinted windows and if she is just someone he has met casually and not a well known actress or other public figure it gets even easier.  People hardly notice him when he isn't being followed by cameras or his entourage. When he's by himself a good hat or hoody hides his face and suddenly he is ignored.  I would imagine at times it could be fun dodging fans and being a nobody. Plus he is getting braver and being less stalked by the press.... or was before MLSHR.  It may get more difficult now to remain off the radar. I agree with @cedarwood  I want him to keep things private and have fun.

There is a link for the movie in the MLSHR thread somewhere.  I'll see if I can find it again.

@lisethvr Thanks for sharing the video. He seems to like kids and he proved that again as he was very fond of his Two Week's daughter, Lee Chae Mi. It's strange in a way, me being same age with Jun Ki yet never having any maternal feelings of sort (I love cats but I don't like kids at all). His fondness with kids showing that he has fine qualities as a father. Hope he will start a family soon.

Anyway, I told my friend (she is indifferent towards LJK) that Jun Ki is a dog-person and he owns 4 chihuahuas and my friend's automatic comment is that he likes petite size girls with big eyes. Idk what's the relevance but feel that her remarks is kinda funny but worth pondering.

I had to chuckle.  Is there anyone here crazy for Joon who is over 5'5".  I don' t know why I think it, but  I just have this feeling we are all small.

  5. You can tell just reading that article that our Joon wants love in every form. He is such a baby and so innocent. He is the embodiment of a geek. So childlike and goofy. It will take a very mature women to deal with his antics. He reminds me of those puppies who bounce around and go all crazy when they get excited but are the first to jump into your lap and lick your face. What a puppy he is.

To me, it is so much more than just his physical looks.  As far as pretty boys go, they are a dime a dozen.  What sets him apart is pure charisma and screen presence.  The camera loves him.  He has that "je ne sais quoi" factor that is so elusive and hard to define and that so few people have.  Kim Soo Hyun is another actor who has that level of charisma.  Call it the x-factor, the star factor or charisma, it is an elusive and very hard to define "essence" that only a few possess.  Add that to pure unmitigated talent and you can call it the Lee Joon Ki factor. :)

Oh yes. You said it very well.  He has charisma and the camera loves him but it is his vulnerability that touches me and speaks to my heart.  No actor can pretend to look that vulnerable.  He is.. inside.. that vulnerable.  That innocent and unspoiled honesty of emotion.  The look in the bath scene ....the one he used in the King and the Clown.    OMG.   I want to respond to that... to touch him there. To tell him he is loved and never ever let him be hurt. Yikes!  I has it bad!

I guess the difference is.. I think I'm in love with the man...not his characters,... or even his excellent acting.   EEP!

  7. I know Joon would personally rather be known for his acting. That is what is most important to him and certainly his acting is amazing. His ability to carry his emotions on his face. His ability to control his body. Those eyes that say so much. All are indicative of a great actor. If his acting wasn't so moving he would be simply one of many handsome men who flashed for a short moment then vanished. Yet, it wasn't his acting, great as it is, that immediate drew our notice ...it was that face.

So what is it about his face. Well we all comment on his beautiful eyes, his perfect nose and delicate mouth, his amazing profile yet here are other actors who have features close to that. He isn't especially tall and he doesn't have a super buff body in fact for most of his career we barely saw his body. It is that face and what his expressions do with it that have mesmerized us. At the center it is his ability to display his vulnerability as a male that hits us like an aphrodisiac. His face is so beautiful that it rivals a woman's beauty or mimics the perfect lines of an anime drawing yet in spite of that we do not see anything effeminate only something  hot and sensual.

Not long ago I read an article by a psychologist who was doing a study on male looks and what influenced women to be drawn to a man. What that scientist discovered is that there is a shift going on in the attributes that once drew a woman to a man. It seems as civilization advances and the requirements of a society change so do our tastes in men. Lee Joon gi is indicative of that change. Yet for all that change in appearance and temperament we see no weakness. His beauty may confuse some who equate a heavy beard or big muscles with masculinity but judging him only by those standards would be a mistake. Here is a man with three black belts. A man who could protect himself and us from harm despite his delicate appearance. The past standards of male beauty no longer apply because those brought with them aggression and infidelity. Today we want a man who can relate to our emotions. A man who can feel as loyal to us as we do to them. A man with vulnerabilities that show us those traits while also having the desire to protect us not because it is the result of evolutionary programming. We see Joon as a man because he has the intensity of mind and emotion to protect what he loves and a face that reveals that to us.

That is the beauty and sensual attraction of Lee Joon gi.

  8. Here is an interesting article about the difference in ratings for inside and outside Kdrama world.

    Quote

Ultimately, the fact there are K-dramas that cater specifically to Korean K-drama fans while others do the same to internationally K-drama fans shows that South Korean television is taking into account not all of their viewers are domestic. Their willingness to incorporate international fans’ preferences shows their willing to expand. To be frank, such a move is smart because the last thing Korean television, or Hallyu in general, wants to do is implode on itself, similar to what happened to Japan with J-pop and anime.

  9. @cesar33  Interesting article but for me it doesn't answer the WHY question. Why do Korean audiences (at least on the basis of TV ratings) favor a coming of age or teenage story while an international audience favors a more mature subject?  Does it perhaps suggest to anyone else that it confirms who controls the remote in Korean homes? And more importantly but only hinted at in the article... which content is better for the future of Korean Entertainment? Which will carry more importance to advertisers?  Does Korea want to limit its advertising power only to those inside Korea?

I think in looking at this objectively it also explains why MLSHR was sabotaged online and by whom..  Korean teenagers not only control the remote but tend to spend more time online in chat rooms and blogs.  They are the ones most often behind cruel online bullying and the ones most likely to be influenced by peers. They are also the ones most likely to grasp at any supposed weakness and exploit it. They are the ones who used the bad editing, bad directing, bad actor, bad music complaints to support a weak argument against MLSHR as a way to support their bias.   What some of us did was follow the lead of teenagers by guessing the reason for the low ratings based on cliche excuses.

  10. Our Joon's latest work is slowly moving up in the domestic ratings which is nice but the international ratings are the real killers here.

According to IBT in SE Asia the show has .....a 73% audience share*.  that of course is in addition to the 1.1 in China....... That's ginormous.!

Major Congratulations to our sweet Joon.

  11. I know Koreans do not like the longer hair but I wish he kept it a bit longer. It frames his face so much better. The heck with fashion. I was always told rather than follow fashion follow what looks good on you.  My mom hated the longer skirt lengths and never wore them. Personally I don't care so much. The other place I see that fashion thing sometimes is the length of guys pants. Why would they want to look like they are wearing pants that they borrowed from their little brother?  Anyway... I support longer hair on Joon. ALWAYS!  Maybe if he is going to do modern drama he will consider it?

Well, I'm not against him starring in a rom-com - with an actress about his age, with an interesting plot. Rom-com aren't only for young actors. So Ji Sub, Eric Mun, Cha Seung Won, Jang Dong Geun, they can still do rom-coms in their 30's and 40's :) Only the rom-coms will be more mature, and I'm all in for that.

But it's not really the roles he is looking for anyway. The meatier and more realistic roles are in movies and some cable dramas. Would be nice to see him in movies, with good directors and veteran actors whom he can learn from.

Anyway, I can see we are all waiting eagerly to see what his next project will be :)

@Mona Ys, he was still a bit raw here and there in TBDAW but still as mesmerizing as now. The contrast between Soo Hyun and Kai is stunning. The range, the amazing range he has... And it really felt classically old-school and hong-kong-ish. I don't think there is a lot of anti-hero like Kai in kdramas. TBDAW is a one of a kind drama, with a great cast from the young to veteran actors.
    (I don't remember how it's written, Kai or Kei ? ^^)

@leesopark16 No there are rom com out there but at this point I would like also to see him in a meatier role and that normally isn't a rom com. He absolutely could do it, he is so naturally funny anyway,,,,,

@Mona YsI have always seen it spelled Kai but that doesn't mean it is right just that it is the way I've seen it.

@elisluvgeunscouple  He has done quite a few modern things in movies but much less in Dramas.  He definitely loves doing action, dressing up and doing fantasy.  It sounds as if he wants something more mature and action oriented (while his body is still able to do it)  That makes me think of roles like TBDAW or Two Weeks.   I know you're gonna hate me for this but I am tired of the romance stuff. I want to see him really kick some..you know what.  Where we can just drool over him and what he can do.

Can't choose ~ He looks good in both ! :)

I'm with you. I can't choose. He looks scrumptious in both.  I do prefer his hair the length he has it now. I don't care for the super short look on him because his ears stick out more if it is too short.

I know most everyone else wants to see him in a rom com but it seems pretty obvious that the viewers in SK don't want him to compete with the younger actors....and those are the roles they most often appear in.

I think he  needs a role where all viewers see it appropriate for him. A  character his own age with a lot of action and a bit less of the love at first sight stuff. How many shows do we see where a doctor, or soldier is played by a 20 something. . By the time you're out of med school and have worked your way up to be in charge or the head of something you're closing in on thirty not 20. That type of personality follows their parents rules. My mom  says you shouldn't consider a relationship until thirty. Career first, relationship 2nd.  Just how many 20 something brilliant doctors or business owners in their 20s do Korean audiences think  are out there?  Joon's age in life is realistic. He is single and in his early thirties because he has focused his life on his career.  That is the kind of character he should play one closer to who he is IRL.

Hahaha, let's us have a ratings in soompi or voting in soompi? They can easily and immediate get the results....

Yep, we could have told them based on what we saw.  Everyone is talking about it no matter where you go. It has got to be that kids control the TV remote in SK homes.  YES?

Also for those asking about Joon speaking English. He does speak it better than you might suppose. IT sometimes takes him a minute to remember an English word for something but he usually gets it.
