Kim Dongwan's solo videoconference in Japan

Singer Kim Dongwan (29) held a successful solo video conference in Japan late last week.

Holding his videoconference in Harajuku Astro Hall, though Dongwan himself wasn't present personally, there were still more than 200 fans who gathered to catch a glimpse of him via the video conference, a clear display of his popularity.

This video conference is specially for the Japanese fans who have been waiting for Dongwan's 2nd album, and scenes from his last Japan fanmeeting, of him recording his 2nd album and also scenes from his everyday life were shown to the fans.

Through his video messages, Kim Dongwan expressed his regret at not being able to attend the event in person, "I should be there, but I can't make it due to my packed schedule. I've prepared the video in replacement of me, and Shinhwa's album and my 2nd album is about to be released, hope everyone will love it."

Dongwan is now busy with his preparations for the upcoming Shinhwa album, as well as his 2nd album. He is always busy practising for Shinhwa's 10th anniversary concert which will be held on 29/30 March.

I saw this survey over at shinhwachangjo.net forums, thought it might be pretty interesting if we could share our thoughts about his first album.

As reported in the many news articles, Dongwan has been working hard on and will be releasing his 2nd Jib soon.

DW International Web Ring Site, in alliance with Dongwan's Korean Fansite, Yoenin is conducting this survey as a pre-DW 2nd jib event

I'm just gonna cut and paste whatever I posted in the forum.

1. monitor for the 1st album

- what was your most favorite song

I love the whole album really. I must it's a pretty good effort for a first album. I Love Summer, Three Musketeers and Handkerchief are my forerunners for fav song.

- merits and demerits(or strength and weakness) of the 1st album

STRENGTHS: I like that the album has many different styles of songs, eg. ballads, duets, rock (Scream), R&B (My Love), as well as happy, upbeat songs (I Love Summer). It breaks the monotony of listening to the album over and over again and makes it easier to spot and identify songs on the first hearing. For example, no disrespect to Hyesung, but because his 2nd jib consisted mainly of ballads, I had a hard time distinguishing each song from the next (esp. since I don't understand the language).

Tracks in his 1st jib flow quite smoothly too.

Plus the fact that Shinhwa members had a hand in his album makes us fans cherish this album even more.

WEAKNESS: I think the intro and instrumental tracks are kind of redundant. I always skip those 2 tracks when I listen to his album. And the Sunsugeon remix in the special edition doesn't fit either.

2. preferences about the fashion (appearance style)

- about the most favorite hair style, fashion, whole style of DW

His weight loss for this album made him look better (and hotter and sexier!!!) and more suited for singing ballads. He's not so bulked up as compared to before.

I didn't mind the lop-sided hairstyle that much. It made him look a tad younger. He looks good with the 8th jib hairstyle, but it makes him look a little older. Love the outfits he wears when performing Handkerchief.

Clean-cut's the way to bring out his already handsome features.

- what style was the worst

As with almost everyone else, THE MUSTACHE!!! It has to go! Some people can look hot and rugged with a mustache, but I don't think it works on Wannie. No mustache for the next album I hope!

His hair shouldn't be too long either, like I said, he looks best with a clean-cut image.

LOL and also definitely no curly-red-streaked Mexican hairstyle!

And there was a polka dot outfit for one of his album cover shoots wasn't it? Didn't like it. :X

I actually didn't mind the eyeliner that much, LOL~

3. the most attractive point of DW for U

Definitely his wit and smile. And also his handsome looks! LOL.

He should smile more and let his witty personality shine through! I loved him ever since I saw him smile in Xman #14 and the porn-CD incident. XD

4. want "THIS" for his 2nd solo album

I actually think Dongwan's vocals are best suited for happy, light-hearted songs. Songs like I Love Summer or Three Musketeers. Or mid-tempo songs like Jindam. He should try and go towards this direction and hook listeners with a catchy, upbeat song. He does ballads quite well too, maybe he can follow up with a ballad for contrast. Having 2 ballads as his title song for his first jib kind of restricts his style to just ballads, and to be honest, there are a lot of ballad singers out there already. He needs to differentiate himself a little.

The acoustic version of Jindam was good too, one of those laid back, lazy songs. Oh, and I love Red Sunset which he sang for Shinhwa's winter story.

Or else one of those rock ballads. Didn't he sing Saranghaetnabwa once? I thought it was pretty good.

More songs that showcases his vocals!

5. what he need to appeal for the general public

Given his very warm and personable nature, I don't think he has a problem attracting fans. Maybe he's quieter when doing solo activities, so he should try and speak up more and command more stage presence. Sometimes when i watch him sing, it seems like from the expression in his eyes, he isn't that into it? I dunno, that's the vibe I get.

EEE! So excited! Dongwan is going to be a guest DJ for Boom's radio show, the 7th through 9th of this month. I've been listening to old clips from his stint as the 1010Club DJ from yoenin's clubbox and he's so good. I just love listening to his voice and amazing laugh. And he's been saying that he's really missed being a radio DJ, so I'm glad he's getting this opportunity. Maybe people will call him and ask him when his 2nd jib is officially coming out.

I'm listening to it right now and I love listening to his bright voice and infectious laugh. It's like listening to him doing 1010Club. If he says anything about himself/Shinhwa/his 2nd jib, I'll post (a lot of it is reading stuff from listeners and talking to people...like DJ's are supposed to do lol).

I was just about to post DW's adorable pictures from his upcoming appearance on Miraculous Victory and Defeat, but I just read some distressing news. My Korean isn't the best so I'm not going to do a line-by-line translation, but basically, for the past 11 days, he's been in the recording studio finishing his 2nd album for its release date of April 24th. B/c of Shinhwa's activities and concerts, he hadn't been able to rest in between. He suddenly had acute abdominal pain (I think that's what it is) and fainted. He's been admitted to the hospital and is receiving treatment. (Click here for the list of articles).

I'm sure they'll be full translated articles soon, but I just wanted to bring to everyone's attention. Please keep him in your prayers. The articles were saying how this may affect his album release date and promotions, but seriously? We don't care. We just want him healthy. I hope he gets lots and lots of rest and doesn't worry and stress about his album. It's important, but not as important as his health.

I don't like thinking about my lovely, always-smiling oppa in pain.
