[인터뷰] 경수진과 함께하는 ‘아홉수 탐방기’…“저는 아홉수 안 믿어요”

“저는 아홉수 안 믿어요.”

물 론 드라마 <아홉수 소년> 주인공이라서가 아니다. 그래도 관련된 ‘미신’은 조금은 믿을 줄 알았다. 하지만 첫 질문부터 받아치는 그의 대답은 명랑하고도 경쾌했다. ‘아홉수를 믿지 않는 <아홉수 소년> 주인공이라니…’하며 당황도 된다. 하긴 매번 아홉수에 발목을 붙잡혔다면 지금의 배우 경수진(28)은 없었을지 모른다. 하지만 기자는 끈기를 가지고 그의 아홉수를 뒤쫓기로 한다.

■ 9살

경수진은 인천에서 나고 자랐다. 어릴 적부터 그는 사촌언니와 함께 그림 그리는 일을 좋아하는 소녀였다. 미술시간을 유독 좋아했고, 습자지에 대고 만화책 그림을 베껴 그리며 당대의 인기 만화가들 필체를 흉내 냈다. 그 사촌언니는 현재 메이크업 아티스트로 일하고 있다. 그는 오빠가 있어 어릴 때부터 또래 여자아이들과 다르게 활동적인 놀이를 좋아했다.

그 성격은 최근 종방한 tvN 드라마 <아홉수 소년> 촬영장에서도 도드라졌다. 동갑내기 강진구 역 김영광과도 놀듯이 촬영했고 유학찬PD의 짓궂은 놀림에도 명랑했다. 그가 연기한 마세영은 ‘아무리 먹어도 44 사이즈를 유지하는’ 신비한 몸을 가져 그를 따르기 위해 먹는 촬영을 하다가도 ‘컷’소리가 떨어지면 음식을 뱉어내는 고역도 치러야 했다. 그는 가식도 없고, 내숭도 없다.

“결국 (김)영광이와 제가 결혼을 해서 끝났네요. 옳은 결론이라고 생각했어요.(웃음) 웨딩드레스를 입어보는 경험도 신기했죠.”

그는 날 때부터 소탈하고 발랄한 소녀였다.

■ 19살

고 3시절이었다. 어릴 적부터 서서히 자란 리더십은 고등학교 시절 1~2학년 반장, 2~3학년 학생회장 당선으로 이어졌다. 공부와 학생회장을 겸하는 어려운 일정이었지만 그는 몰래 담배를 피우는 학생들을 잡으러 학교를 동분서주하는 부지런한 학생이었다. 경영학과를 가고 싶었다. 진로고민도 당연히 했다. 어느 순간 연기자가 되고 싶다는 생각도 했지만 생업은 딴 걸 갖고 연기를 취미로 하면 되지 않을까 생각하던 시절이었다. 역시 아홉 살 때와 비슷하게 아홉수가 없던 시절이다.

“그 냥 열심히 살겠다는 게 목표였던 것 같아요. 지금도 그래요. 연기를 할 때는 연기 밖에 생각이 안 들어요. 딱히 ‘징크스’라고 할 만한 것도 없어요. 그냥 신발이 편하면 대사가 잘 외워지는 정도? 입에 안 붙는 대사가 나오면 무조건 열심히 외우죠.”

고등학교 시절을 열심히 보냈기 때문일까. 그는 데뷔 후 <적도의 남자> <상어> <그 겨울, 바람이 분다> 등의 작품에서 교복을 유난히 많이 입었다.

■ 29살

2012년 드라마 <적도의 남자> 한지원(이보영) 역 어린시절을 연기해 이름을 알린 그는 당시 26세였음에도 여주인공의 아역을 많이 연기했다. 손예진, 문정희 등이 그의 연기를 거쳐 성인역을 연기했다. 올해 종합편성채널 드라마 <밀회>에서 이선재(유아인) 역을 바라보는 박다미를 연기해 인상을 남긴 그는 <아홉수 소년>에서 데뷔 3년 만에 여주인공 자리를 꿰찼다.

남들보다 조금은 늦은 나이에 온 기회, 이 역시 그에게는 부담스럽거나 초조했던 일이 아니었다. 그는 “작품 할 때 혼자 부담을 받거나 하는 스타일은 아니다. 단지 그냥 고등학생 역을 많이 맡아 잘 봐주실까 하는 생각이 있었다”고 말했다.

그에게 운명은 노력하면 만들어지는 것이었다. 내년이면 29세, 다시 아홉수를 맞는 그가 아무렇지 않을 수 있는 이유다.

“아직은 신인이잖아요. 활동하는 것 자체에 감사하죠. 촬영장이 가장 편해요. 그냥 편하게 놀 수 있는 장소가 돼 가는 것 같아요. 가끔씩 느끼는 일상의 여유도 좋고요.”

■ 39살

드라마 속 마지막 아홉수이자, 그에게는 조금 먼 아홉수인 39세. 그는 어떤 모습이 될까. 그의 말에 따르면 배우생활은 계속 하고 있고, 결혼도 했고, 아이도 있을 것 같단다. 그리고 지금보다는 삶의 긴장감을 내려놓고 마음의 여유를 좀 더 찾지않았을까 예상해 본다. <밀회>를 찍으며 40대 여배우로서 정점을 향해 다시 오르고 있는 김희애의 모습은 그에게 많은 응원이 됐다.

“10년 후면 제가 작품을 선택할 수 있는 입장이 됐으면 좋겠죠.(웃음) 아직 섹시함을 보여주지 못한 것 같은데, 그 때는 경수진의 여성미와 섹시미를 보여주면 좋겠어요. 그리고 그때쯤이면 제 아역이 생기겠죠? 나의 이야기를 하는 아역이 생기는 시기겠구나 미리 생각해보면, 정말 기쁜데요?”

tvN 드라마 <아홉수 소년> 역시 ‘운명은 스스로 개척하는 것이지 스스로 발목을 잡히는 일이 아니’라고 설명한다. 경수진의 배우인생이 딱 그랬다. 내년 29세 아홉수는 그에게 오히려 더 도약하는 발구름판이 아닐까 생각하게 했다.

Ok, going back to the interview.

Talking about the “oppa” thing.

KSJ says that at first they were the same age friends but now she calls KYK *oppa*.

She tells the story (so now we have different versions of the same story – lol!) of how it started. 

Lee Jin-ho, the actor who played Jin Goo's friend, was born in 1986(April) and he's considered the same age as KYK (born 1987 January).

KSJ called Lee Jin-ho "oppa" and said that later on, though it was awkward for her to do it, she started calling KYK “oppa” too. Supposedly it was OK, because KYK was born in early1987 and was the same age as Lee Jin-ho – lol!

(in her past interviews she said that KYK was “insisting” on her calling him “oppa” and didn’t want to let go, although she considered them same-age; so now we know that he really was trying hard to come up with an excuse for her to address him in a different way; KYK you are so obvious with all your moves!)

And once again she says she was really pleased with Jin Goo and Se Young’s happy ending.
