The most famous Hallyu star in the Arab world is Lee Min-ho.

KBS World Radio conducted a survey in the Arab world in celebration of its 40th anniversary. The first person Arabs think of when they think of Korea is Lee Min-ho (14.8%). Next came Super Junior (10.8%), EXO (9%), Park Shin-hye (5.1%), Ban Ki-moon the secretary general of the UN (2.6%) and president Park (2.6%).

Critic of pop culture Kim Yoon-ha said, "Lee Min-ho is a universal character who is timeless. His popularity in dramas is also the reason why he is thought of so much". Lee Min-ho's dramas like "The Heirs", "City Hunter" and such have been successful in the Arab world.

Other than that, Hallyu contents is the first thing they think of at the mention of Korea. Questions about Hallyu related contents were the highest at 70% and next came Korean companies and products.

As for places they want to travel, Jeju Island came in first (18.1%), Seoul Tower (16.4%), the Han River Park (14.9%) and Dongdaemun (5.6%). For things to do in Korea, first came eating (21.7%) and kimchi is the first thing they want to try (26%).

When it comes to discomfort about visiting Korea, Arabs mentioned Halal restaurants and ingredients. Then came communication, the cost of living, lack of religious establishments and lack of English guides.

The survey was conducted from the 3rd of September to the 17th.

A walking competition will be held at the Olympic Park on the 24th in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the KBS World Radio. This is the first Korea-Middle East friendly sports meet.
