[News] ‘3B rules’ Hidden Success of Box-office "The gift of room 7"

The 3Bs (Beast, Baby, Beauty) are essential elements and commonly used in the advertising industry. However, the rules have changed now as a recent human comedy and successful movie which has surpassed over 12m viewership, TGOR7 has the 3Bs elements.

Beast: Reversal charm of ‘Dirty Sexy’ Ryu Seung Ryung (RSR).

How is RSR acting as a fool? (Yonggu is mentally handicapped in TGOR7)

Before the movie released to the public, people were puzzled and doubted RSR ability to act as mental handicapped father (Yonggu) who has 6-year-old intelligent daughter (Yeseung). This is because he has being playing lots of strong roles in his previous works such as Jyu Shin-Ta in ‘War of The Arrows’, the high class Casanova in ‘All About My Wife’ and the loyal Heo Gyun in ‘Masquerade’. However the views were changed after to movie released and has attracted more than 12m viewers with his reversal charm in TGOR7. 

With a line “I’m LYG, when I was born my mom hurt because my head was big…” in the movie, it’s an appearance of RSR that we never seen in his previous works. Yonggu who has mushroom-like hair with silly and heartfelt words and actions, is a captivated character, not only to the actor but also to the viewers. 

In one of his interview, RSR said “There was a time where it was hard to digest from the past strong characters’ image but seems like viewers can accept the change and something fresh like Yonggu now.”

Baby: Viewers’ tears and runny nose due to child actor, Kal So Won (KSW).

The child actor, KSW receives amount of applauses for her acting in TGOR7. She acted as child Yeseung, the only daughter of Yonggu, able to express several emotions, cute facial expressions and tears on her acting, especially when she has to separate with her father. 

At TGOR7 premiere, director Lee Hwan Kyung commented that he did not expected her to act very well. But instead of playing around, she focused on her acting. She also tried very hard to understand every situation faced by Yeseung. The director was impressed because of her own effort.

Beauty: Park Shin Hye, the movie ‘secret weapon’.

The last rule in the movie that cannot miss is PSH appearance. According to the director “Park Shin Hye is TGOR7’s secret weapon.” She acted as adult Yeseung who came to proved that her father was innocent. Even though PSH has little screen time, her appearance brought full of overwhelming tears and left big impression on viewers.

In one of her interview, PSH said “I cried when I read the scenario of the movie and thought this movie would work (new challenge).” She thinks the impact of the role and the movie is more important rather than thinking about the number of screen time.

MIRACLE IN CELL NO. 7 and LOVE 911 Strong in Asia         Just before the official opening of the Hong Kong International Film &TV Market (FILMART), Korean distributor Finecut has announced a number of deals for its strong lineup. Miracle in Cell No. 7, the surprise hit comedy drama which has drawn over 12.4 million admissions and become the country’s third most successful film ever, has been sold to Comstock Group (Japan), Flash Forward Entertainment (Taiwan), Intercontinental Film Distributors (Hong Kong) and JoyNContents (Thailand). The popular romance Love 911 also secured a few deals, going to Twin (Japan), Eagle International (Taiwan) and Lotte Cinema (Vietnam).
 
Both of these titles, as well as the current hit gangster film New World, are expected to sell well during FILMART, which got underway yesterday and runs until March 21st. Other recent Finecut titles include HONG Sangsoo’s Nobody’s Daughter Haewon and the debut LEE Don-ku drama Fatal.

HIFF Spring Showcase Binges on Korean Cinema

  The Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) will hold its annual Spring Showcase from April 5th to 11th and out of a total of 33 films, seven hail from the Korean peninsula. HIFF has always been kind to Korean film, with its director of programming Anderson Le a frequent presence at major Korean film festivals.   Boasting a mix of commercial and independent fare, this year’s showcase will feature: the hitman thriller

If you watched a few kdramas in the last year and have a favorite series or performer, the Baeksang Awards wants to hear from you.

The Baeksang Arts Awards honors outstanding achievements in the South Korean entertainment industry and you get to help decide who the winners will be. The organization's website now lists some of the television and film nominees for its 49th Baeksang Arts Awards. The first nominees released were for Most Popular Actress and Most Popular Actor in 2013.

Actor nominees include Kang Ji Hwan for "Incarnation of Money," Kwon Sang Woo for "Yawang, " Kim Beom for "That Winter, The Wind Blows," Jo in Sung for "That Winter The Wind Blows, Kim Jae Joong for "Dr. Jin," Lee Min Ho for "Faith: The Great Doctor," Joo Won for "Bridal Mask," Jang Geun Suk for "Love Rain," So Ji Sub for "Ghost," Yoo Seung Hoo and Park Yoo Chun for "I Miss You."

Park Yoo Chun is a favorite to win as he appeared in three dramas last year, all of which were well received.

The actress nominee category includeds Moon Geun Young for her role in "Cheomdamdong Alice," Park Se Young in "Faith: The Great Doctor," Bae Suzy in "Big," Song Hye Kyo in "That Winter The Wind Blows," Han Ji Min in "Rooftop Prince," Yoon Eun Hye in "I Miss You," Choi Kang Kee for "Level 7 Civil Servant," Ha Ji Won for "King Two Hearts," Park Min Young for "Dr. Jin," and Im Yoona in "Love Rain."

The shortlisted favorite is Im Yoona.

Also nominees have been listed for the most popular movie actor and actress.

Popular film actors nominated include Ryu Seung Ryong in "Miracle in Cell 7," Park Shi Hoo in "I'm a Killer," Kim Rae Won in "My Little Hero" and So Ji Sub in "The Company Man."
